Ter m Review

FOUNDED 1903

It is very hard to pic k a highlight from what has been suc h a br illiant ter m - but as the photos later in this review show, the Y6 and Y7 productions of Matilda were suc h wonderful occasions The acting, sing ing and dancing were of suc h a high standard, and the show itself so utterly enjoyable, that I regularly had to remind myself we were watc hing 10-12 year old c hildren Remarkable! What I think is even more impor tant to ac knowledge however is the inclusiveness of the perfor ming ar ts here at Dumpton This was not a hand-pic ked cast of keen actor s: this was every single c hild in Y6 and Y7, and every single one of them had their c hance to shine.

This inclusivity - and the ethos where everyone tr ies everything - is integ ral to life at Dumpton It’s for this reason that Mr Randle, Mr s Clemmitt and the spor t staff work so hard to get every c hild playing spor t eac h day, and representing the sc hool in a fixture eac h week It’s for this reason that though Netball and Hoc key might have been our major spor ts this ter m, pupils have represented the sc hool at Cross Country, Swimming, Biathlon, as well as Hor se Riding and even Skiing! It’s for this reason that we had Year 2 playing their fir st ever fixtures (the fir st in the history of Dumpton!) with the inaugural Spr ing House Cup, and that the whole sc hool perfor med on one memorable after noon for the Spr ing Spectacular (even Nur sery!), and that the Global Citizenship Day brought the whole sc hool together to under take a range of activities to make the world we live in a better place.

This ‘ everyone tr ies everything’ ethos at Dumpton is so cr ucial. We want every c hild to fulfil their potential, and being immer sed from a young age in an enthusiastic, ‘ can do’ culture where they exper ience so many oppor tunities to lear n about themselves and g row Sometimes, it is all too easy in life to say no to oppor tunities, and to stay in our comfor t zones – but we r isk never fulfilling our potential if we do. Hopefully, as this review shows, life at Dumpton g ives c hildren the confidence to aim high, to try new things, to par ticipate, and, by doing so, to realise that they are all capable of remarkable things To realise that you really can because you think you can

Finally, the sc holar ships at the top end of the sc hool are a g reat example of the ‘aim high’ ethos at Dumpton. We’re incredibly really proud of our pupils Equally, in a sc hool that pr izes itself on providing a broad and balanced education, the record number of academic sc holar ships this year is a wonderful endor sement of our approac h.

My thanks go to our wonderful staff team as ever who ‘set the weather’ in the sc hool eac h day - from teac hing staff, to suppor t staff, we are very luc ky to have them.
