“EXPLORE, BE YOURSELF OUR PRIZE and HAVE FUN” SAYS GIVING SPEAKER It was a pleasure to welcome BBC Sports Presenter, Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes, to the Prep as our guest speaker at Prize Giving this year. Lizzie regaled us with tales of her adventures and gave us a real sense of her enjoyment of all that she has undertaken. Her message to all the pupils was that they should approach everything with an open mind and with enthusiasm, should try new things, and above all should be themselves.
Proud to be a Space Education School
A Fond Farewell To Year 8!
We are thrilled to announce that Sherborne Prep has been awarded a Space Education Quality Mark. It is a real honour to be recognised as a leading space education school, and we look forward to even more exciting space-themed challenges and projects over the coming year.
Year 8 have had a wonderful last few weeks. They threw themselves into their Business Challenge, devising ingenius and lucrative stalls for the Summer Fête, and put on a fabulous musical revue for us all. The highlight for many was their adventure week at Brenscombe,
jam-packed with watersports and activities. Congratulations on another year of 100% success rate at Common Entrance (maintaining our unbroken record) and some excellent scholarships won,Year 8. We wish you all the best for Senior School and beyond.
Bringing History to Life Our staff, led by Miss Gates, pulled out all the stops to put on a one-day history festival for the whole school and everyone dressed up as historical characters. Stalls included spinning and cloth-making, musketry, food and drink, a Shakespearean tent, the origins of maths, fire making, writing with quills, courtly dances, a maypole, and medieval torture. The highlight for many of the children was learning to march and defend Roman style, led by our very own centurion, Mr Taylor. Every age group enjoyed an incredible day and learnt so much, thanks to the incredible efforts of the staff and our wonderful visitors from the Civil War Re-enactment Society. After a brilliant carousel of activities and a fine peasants’ lunch of bread chunks and ham and cheese complete with homemade chutneys and old fashioned lemonade, we returned to Lower Paddock for the excitement of the House Jousting competition.
Mr Velazquez, we feel you have surpassed yourself this year! Congratulations to all the exhibitors, big and small, at the
Summer Art Exhibition
Year 6 Shine in Dr DoLittle
Year 6 demonstrated their warmth and humour, in their vibrant production of “Dr DoLittle (the musical). Peter, playing the good doctor, had the animals eating out of his hand, and the audience too! There were so many standout performances in the cast, and it was clear that they were having enormous fun. What a talented bunch they are.
Pre-Prep Our topic “holidays seemed very apt this term as we enjoyed so many weeks of sunshine. We wrote tour brochures, counted our holiday money, explored world destinations, and tried a bit of camping too! When we were not thinking about holidays we squeezed in a musical, a sports day, a music concert and a minimarathon, and invited our parents in to learn from their children. They have definitely earned a real holiday after all their hard work!
Pre-Prep present...The
Goblin Next Door
A naughty goblin moves into a happy neighbourhood and wreaks havoc with his unkindness and selfishness. The woodland creatures show him the right way to behave and forgive him, so the goblin mends his ways and becomes the best neighbour anyone could wish for.
Nursery Nirvana
Our Nursery children have had such fun this term, inside and out, learning through play. They showed off their letters and sounds skills and shared some lovely songs and rhymes at their summer concert. Their enthusiasm on sports day demonstrated that they have the perfect Prep spirit, and are ready for their step up into Reception!
Year 8: Guys & Dolls & Les Mis
Whacky Races!
The Year 6 children enjoyed a thrilling morning when they took part in our Prep version of RoboWars, using contraptions that they had designed and built in DT lessons. Prior to the head-to-head battles, the machines were paraded and demonstrated to the enthusiastic spectators, and prizes were awarded for the whackiest, the most creative, the fastest, and the scariest!

All A-Board!
Our boarders have had a Summer term of outdoor fun, with BBQs, camping, water sports, country shows, theme parks and beaches. “Capture the Flag” seems to be the the game of the season, and another highlight for many was the Boarders’ Talent Show. Can you guess the owner of the mystery feet?!
Musical Notes The Music Department continues to go from strength to strength under the baton of Mrs Fawbert and her team. The various choirs are bursting at the seams and the burgeoning number of ensembles and soloists reflects the huge enthusiasm for music in the school. In addition to three musical productions, and a Chamber Choir performance at the town’s Summer festival,we enjoyed many mini maestro concerts, a delightful Marquee Concert and picnic (including some enchanting Maori songs), and a beautiful Abbey service to end the year on a high note. Good luck to all our musicians who await the results of their ABRSM exams.

It has been an exciting term of sport, both in team and individual pursuits, but the highlight for many was Sports Day, in which the Prep spirit of friendship, humour and having a go shone through. Well done Normans on scooping the shield!

Future GROUND FLOOR PLAN
UPPER FLOOR PLAN
In addition to the major refurbishment of Pre-Prep taking place this Summer holidays, the Chairman of Governors, Nigel Jones, unveiled plans for the development of the school in his speech at Prize Giving. As the school has grown, now is a perfect time to build on that growth both metaphorically and literally, and plans have been drawn up for a carefully phased development, which we hope to commence next Summer, subject to planning permission. The project will develop the back of the Blake Wing area of school, providing additional creative spaces for art, music and drama, whilst enchancing our classroom facilities too.
