Grotto -scape.

A landscape architecture for educational env. , 2020 @ SCI-Arc

Grotto-scape is a new educational community as a fuzzy aggregate, that interrogates multiple scales for learning environment within the diverse reality in the way how negative cutting geometries against modularity of the positive along with subtle and intentional use of colors and materiality. Through the juxtaposition of multi scales, the grotto-scape is established in the interest of not only a fuzzy aggregate but also the concept of making classrooms slightly unclear and create a sense of wonder for kids in this new educational community as the third teacher.

Terra -glomerate.

A vertical fairgorund for symphony community, 2021 @ SCI-Arc

In considering the wild as an image-concept, the studio will apply this thinking to the production of a music center situated in Exposition Park, Los Angeles. Complexity, blurriness, and liveness of mountains are embodied within this scale of space, that we call “nature”. Terra-glomerate is a Hybridized Vertical Fairground as a redefined narrative that makes the boundary of humans and other creatures slightly unclear, emerging human habitations, acoustic forms, apertures of terraces, and intermediate spaces, where new forms of music performance and learning are possible to happen.

The design of a significant remodel and addition to the existing structure navigates the restrictive hildside regulation, while embodying the client’s desire to celebrate its unique natural conditions. The proposed redesign of the site conceives a set of cascading volumes with circulations that echo the steep natural grade, creating jo urney around the courtyard and down to the main living space.

Taipei Railway Workshop (TRW) is about to transform into a national museum, but the tremendous scale difference between humans and machines is a disconnection. Thus, the new and diverse “Machines” will be added into the existing TRW mechanism to preserve the dynamic motion system and its labor culture, which reforms an ecosystem-like totality.

Domestic Shadow-scape.

A house revitalization with light & shadow, 2017 @ Tamkang University

Instructor: Jr Gang Chi

This project is based on scientific research, physical model experiments, and long-term site observation of three historic houses in Taipei, each 40 meters long & 5 meters wide. The proposal is to explore new spatial compositions, allowing the abnormal shadows with everyday scenes to be perceived by human beings. By embedding the two additional vertical “Corners,” where the conventional courtyards are located, the houses are transformed into an ever-changing totality of life, which can be seen and felt by the residents as well as can be preserved as an alternative identity of Dihua Street.

Mastsu Junior High School.

A junior high school in Matsu, TW

Status: 2nd Place in Competition (14,195 ft²)

The competition is for a junior high school on Mastsu island, and certain requirements have been considered to respond to the local context, including educational spaces, hillside regulations, material choices, the formal language of the traditional sloped roof, etc. The proposal is the solution that blends the school into the Mastsu environment, which is the key desire of the client.

Advanced Material & Tectonics.

A facade revamp of Friberg Library in Berlin 2020 @ SCI-Arc Instructor: Maxi Spina, Randy Jefferson

The whole process is divided into 2 phases, the first phase is to analyze the system of the facade and structure of Friberg Library, and to find a potential improvement area. The second is to revamp the system.

The facade of the Library originally adopts an extensive glazing system, causing uncomfortable glare and reflection to the pedestrians. In this case, the new facade system we introduce takes the advantage of the faceted massing. First, the drywall system reduces the load on a hanging connection - redistribution of loads of drywall system directly to floor slabs. Second, the granite cladding system consists of GFRC panels as a secondary structure to provide the ground to install the multi-oriented cladding panels. As a result, the new façade changes the building into a novel and monolithic entity.

Design Development.

An integrated design of a concert hall complex

The Design Development class trained us to produce video-based design development delivery. Through professors’ instruction, we group of six members finished designing the structure, materials, and MEP in the design development phase. The final deliverable was a video that analyzed the rendering, structure selection, construction sequences, architecture details, MEP, and misc.

“Wait”-land.

A revamp of ecological ponds in Yulin, TW 2020 @ Guu Architects & Associates

Status: Built

This project aims to reframe the relationship between humans and the natural environment. The proposal dismantle the blocker between the two ponds and connect them as a whole ecological environment for wetland plants and creatures. Meanwhile, I place three observation platforms in the environment, where people can sit and engage with nature in a more accessible and intimate way. The three platforms are made of processed wood mounting on the concrete foundation with stainless joints, which prevents the wood structure from further deterioration by the salty water.

Floating Screen.

A facade revamp of a visiting center in Yulin, TW 2020 @ Guu Architects & Associates

Status: Schematic Design

The goal of this project is to unify the architectural elements, such as the drainage pipe system, in the interest of a new local icon. Hence, we try to introduce a simple gesture to bring the imagery of the Kouhu Lake onto the façade, which not only can hide the unwanted and messy pipe systems but also create a floating impression and immersive experience for visitors. The façade is built on the original I-beam system (marked in red in the plan), minimizing additional loads applied to the support structure.

Interior Renovation.

A renovation of an administrative center

This project is to renovate the interior design of the building, where there are two main focuses: (1) function reinforcement and (2) visual & aesthetic improvement. Hence, the goal of the design is to maximize benefits with minimal changes. First, for the tea room, the design is to avoid the end-point of sight isn’t the toilet, as well as the entrance and exit of the toilet aren’t directly facing the entrance of the conference room. Second, for the office, two small partition walls were removed in response to the need for office space, achieving smooth space and convenient use.

Curved Notion.

A parametric wood chair fabrication 2022 @ SCI-Arc Instructor: Soomeen Hahm

The goal of this project is to use augmented reality technology to guide users, who look for unique and affordable furniture, through every essential step. The project starts with the parametric formal design along with details of bent-wood segmentation and joint design. With the assistance of the AR devices in the construction process, the wood strips are bent with hot steam; mounted on the formworks; connected with curved metal joints to complete the work piece by piece. As a result, we achieved a parametric fabrication in a way between digitality and craftsmanship.
