Another
year
has
almost
passed by, and 2017 gave us plenty of surprises along the way, some of them being newcomers in the music industry dominating the charts. Here’s a quick recap:
2017 NEWCOMERS
Cardi B
Born Belcalis Almanzar, Cardi is no stranger to the rap music scene. However, in 2017 she made history as the first solo female rap artist to score #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with her single Bodak Yellow.
Khalid
Khalid released his debut album American Teen early on in February 2017. His single entitled Young Dumb & Broke accompanied with his heavy yet harmonious voice resonated well with the millennial crowd, and therefore earning him a top spot on the charts all across the globe.
XXXTentacion
Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, better known by his stage name XXXTentacion, is the pioneer of the soundcloud rap genre. X’s breakthrough single ‘Look at me’ has made him widely known in the rap genre and his debut album also made to No. 2 in Billboard 200. He was also included within XXL 2017’s cover as part of the 2017 Freshman Class.
Higher Brothers
Hailing from Chengdu in China, the four men rap group has made themselves famous in the rap industry. Their debut album ‘The Black Cab’ and it’s title track ‘Made in China’ has skyrocketed their popularity in the American hip hop scene. Despite the language barrier, Higher Brothers has lit up numerous venue in their 2017 US Tour. 3

UPCOMING 2018 ALBUMS Sky Ferreira - Masochist
LA-bred indie chart-topper Sky Ferreira has made her 2013 album Night Time, My Time an instant classic, and she intends to do the same with upcoming Masochist, presenting addictive lo-fi beats and lyrics that portray the ennui of teenage life as its main selling point.
The 1975 - Music for Cars
After their last (quite mouthful) album entitled i like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it, The 1975 aims to return to their black-clad roots lead by adorably disheveled frontman, Matt Healy.
Travis Scott - Astroworld
Travis’s releases have always been highly anticipated. Following his last album, Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight, Travis is rumored to be releasing another new album titled Astroworld in 2018. Also don’t forget to check out his latest single ‘Deserve’ featuring the famous Hong Kong based rapper Kris Wu.
Lil Yachty - Lil Boat 2
After his successful mixtape ‘Lil Boat’ and his debut album ‘Teenage Emotions’, the rapper that was a former model for Yeezy Season 3 is planning to release another mixtape. Through his twitter and instagram he dropped hints on an upcoming project for 2018.

tips: crossing off your 2017 bucket list! by Yael Enginet a
Time flies, soon we’ll be writing 2018 instead of 2017. It’s crazy and a little frightening to think that this year is already nearing the end. Lots of thing happen everyday, making us think that there is not enough time to get everything done. All those unfinished New Year’s resolutions might still be haunting you next year, and you can barely recall what 2017 was like. However, there’s still enough time to squeeze in
those last-minute to-dos to end the year with a joyful, content, and regret-free heart. Sticking to some resolutions or bucket lists may be a challenge, as it requires motivation, perseverance, and resistance. Well, it seems quite difficult, but it’s not something that is impossible to do. The end of the year is actually a great time to wrap things up and start making new tasks, lists, or resolutions. Consider these 4 tips that will make it easier to finish all the things you want to do this year before it finally ends:
1. Focus on goals you really care about. If you don’t even start out with a strong desire to keep your resolutions, there’s no way you’ll manage to keep motivated. Take time to ponder why you made those resolutions in the first place, and what you actually want to achieve. Also consider the loss for not achieving those goals.
2. Focus on goals you believe you can achieve. Believing that a goal is achievable is vital. This
5
doesn’t mean that you should only set easy goals. Almost everything worth doing is going to be challenging, and you’re likely to face obstacles along the way, so set goals that you have no doubt you’ll eventually reach.
3. Identify the reasons you might fail. One of the best way to avoid a failure is by anticipating it. First, focus on your goals and why you want to achieve them, and then turn your focus to the obstacles standing between you and all those goals. Once you’ve got a
list of all the things that might make you fail, you can guard yourself against them.
4. Set a time to check in. Most of the time, the burst of motivation fails as we slip back into everyday life, until in the end we completely forget about our goals. If you really want to keep your resolutions, periodically check the progress. See how far you’ve come, and see how many things you haven’t done yet. Of course, start doing the unfinished ones right away afterwards.
new year around the world! by Sherenna Aurafani Rumaiza & Puspita Ayu Alifah
When it comes to New Year, people around the world have so many different ways to celebrate it. In some places, the ways they do it are quite…well, weird and unusual. Nevertheless, no matter how weird and unusual they are, it is always interesting to know that there are many more than just fireworks out there. In fact, the differences show how diverse the cultures are on this very beautiful mother earth. Here, we have made a list of some of the most interesting New Year celebrations from countries around the world.
Denmark Denmark celebrates New Year by breaking plates. They keep all their old dishes and plates until the 31st of December, and they will break them at their friends’ front doors as a sign of friendship.
mouth at midnight, people believe that the person will achieve good luck for the next year. Each of the 12 grapes signifies every month in a year.
Switzerland Unlike people in Spain, the Swiss don’t eat their treats. Instead, they drop their whipped cream onto the floor so that it will bring them prosperity in the coming year.
Colombia Colombians believe that carrying their suitcases around with them all day long will allow them to travel more in the incoming year.
Italy Italians wear new clothes to celebrate New Year, and they will give each other gifts to symbolize something specific to the receiver. Again, it’s more than just fireworks. We live in such a diverse world and it is fun to live in diversity. Let’s embrace it, and may we live in peace. Happy New Year!
Spain In Spain, grapes are the New Year’s tradition for good luck. If someone can manage to stuff 12 grapes in their
