As CEO of Erudite, Afaf’s biggest challenge was breaking into a competitive market dominated by industry giants. To stand out, they focused on offering personalized, future-focused programs and building strong client relationships. Through innovation, quality, and flexibility,
As
CEO of Erudite
Training Solutions
(ETS), I lead a dedicated team that designs customized, evidence-based training programs for various industries. Our services range from corporate training and community initiatives to online courses, all aimed at driving business growth, enhancing team engagement, and improving overall performance.
Erudite earned trust and credibility, carving out a unique space in the corporate training landscape.
A major challenge in corporate coaching was overcoming skepticism about emotional intelligence (EI) as a key leadership tool. When she first started promoting emotional intelligence (EI) training for leaders, many businesses prioritized hard skills and traditional methods, underestimating the impact of EI on team dynamics, productivity, and long-term success.
To address this, Afaf focused on proving EI’s value by showcasing measurable outcomes. She created tailored leadership teams and community programs that demonstrated how EI improved
communication, relationships, and conflict resolution.
Building Resilience: Strategies for Bouncing Back from Setbacks and Failures
A key challenge Afaf faced was the simultaneous launch of multiple new programs at ETS, which met unexpected resistance in certain markets and misaligned partnerships. Instead of seeing this as a setback, she viewed it as an opportunity to recalibrate. By staying flexible and focused on the long-term vision, they turned these challenges into valuable lessons, leading to a broader, more tailored range of corporate and community programs that better meet the evolving needs of businesses and individuals.
Driving Innovation: A Game-Changing Initiative That Transformed Business
At Erudite Training Solutions, Afaf spearheaded the launch of the “Emotionally Intelligent Leadership Programs” to address the challenges of managing diverse teams in a globalized, digital world. Recognizing that traditional EI models focused mainly on leadership, she expanded the approach to include the emotional and relational needs of broader groups, such as educators, students, and parents.
A key project in this initiative is the Community Empowerment Program, which provides free training to educational institutions, healthcare organizations, and nonprofits. This
program transforms leadership, empowers teams, supports educators in nurturing students, and guides parents in raising future leaders.
Afaf is proud of her recent book, Al-Masdar: The Bridge to Excellence, which offers a comprehensive guide to understanding and applying emotional intelligence in personal and professional life. The book connects EI concepts to core values, emphasizing their critical role in effective leadership and building strong interpersonal relationships.
Building a Winning Team: Key Qualities That Drive Vision and Success
At Erudite, Afaf fosters an environment where every team member feels empowered to share ideas. She encourages open communication and collaboration through regular brainstorming sessions, turning collective creativity into actionable strategies. Team members are also given ownership of projects, allowing them to experiment and learn from their experiences.
When building a strong team, Afaf prioritizes empathy, adaptability, and diverse perspectives—qualities that align with Erudite T.S.’s mission of helping clients achieve excellence. These traits create a dynamic team capable of supporting the company’s vision and clients’ goals.
Guiding Lights: The Influential Figures in Afaf’s Life and Their Enduring Lessons
“My mentor has been a major influence in shaping my view of leadership, teaching me that true leadership is about inspiring others, not just authority. They emphasized the power of authenticity and storytelling in building connections and showed me that challenges often present the greatest opportunities for innovation,” says Afaf.
Guidance for Future’s aspiring leaders
“My advice on leadership lies in helping and empowering others, fostering inclusivity, and building trust. Listen to your team to understand their strengths and challenges, create a shared vision, and encourage a culture of feedback to drive innovation. Lastly, invest in growth—yours and your team’s—through mentorship, courses, reflection, and feedback,” expresses Afaf.
Future Forward: Anticipating Industry Trends and Strategizing for Success
Afaf ensures that In the future, she envisions the rise of hybrid workplaces driving leaders to focus more on emotional well-being and effectively manage remote team dynamics to ensure connection and collaboration across diverse environments.
As mental health and emotional fitness become key workplace priorities, their programs will integrate these aspects to develop resilient, emotionally intelligent leaders. With a growing emphasis on social responsibility, they’ll also focus on ethical leadership, diversity, and inclusivity.
“We aim to empower leaders with essential skills like creativity, problem-solving, people management, and emotional intelligence, making a lasting impact on organizational culture and communities,” asserts Afaf.
Afaf’s Reimagining Possibilities: One Change I’d Make in Today’s Business Landscape
Afaf believes emotional intelligence should be as vital as technical skills in corporate training. Despite advancements in technology, many organizations still overlook EI’s role in conflict resolution, innovation, and team engagement. At Erudite T.S., they’re bridging this gap by offering tailored programs and partnering with global experts to deliver future-proof strategies for their clients.
I believe in empowering others through active listening, open communication, and strong relationships to foster growth. By developing effective leaders, I aim to drive team success and deliver lasting business results, creating a foundation for sustainable success.
CHELSEA ANNE HORNBY
Menstruation profoundly impacts the lives of women, yet it remains a taboo subject. In many parts of the world, menstrual and reproductive health can determine a person’s opportunities and quality of life. In South Africa alone, over 4.9 million girls suffer the indignity of poor menstrual hygiene, often resorting to using rolled-up newspapers and rags.
But menstruation is only the beginning of a lifelong journey of hormonal changes that many women navigate with insufficient support or understanding. A 2021 survey by the British Menopause Society revealed that 41% of women experiencing menopausal symptoms said it negatively affected their work performance, and 1 in 10 women quit their jobs due to these challenges. This is part of the broader landscape of women’s health issues that Chelsea Anne Hornby, the 31-year-old Founder and CEO of Elle International, is determined to change.
A Mission Born From Personal Struggle
Chelsea’s mission to empower women and advance health equity in Africa began with her own struggles. At 23, she invested her life savings to establish Elle International, choosing purpose over personal ambition. Her journey began with addressing menstrual health, providing effective, hygienic, and sustainable sanitary wear alongside comprehensive education to help young women stay in school. But
as Chelsea’s work grew, so did her understanding of the broader gaps in women’s health.
“Women’s health is so much more than reproductive health,” Chelsea emphasizes. “It encompasses every stage of a woman’s life, including perimenopause and menopause, which are still shrouded in stigma and misunderstanding.”
Bringing Menopause
and
Perimenopause
Into the Spotlight
Perimenopause and menopause are natural biological transitions, yet they remain overlooked in healthcare systems worldwide. Statistics from the National Institute on Aging show that 75% of women experience vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes during menopause, and 20% endure symptoms so severe they interfere with their daily lives. Meanwhile, research published in the journal Menopause reveals that up to 47% of women report memory issues during menopause, yet these concerns are often dismissed as inconsequential.
Chelsea has made it her mission to ensure that these critical stages of life receive the attention they deserve. Through Elle International, she has developed initiatives aimed at addressing the unique challenges of perimenopause and menopause.
“Women often feel isolated during perimenopause, struggling with symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, and emotional distress that can derail their careers and personal lives,” Chelsea explains. “Through education, tools, and community,
we’re helping women understand and navigate these changes with confidence.”
One of Elle International’s flagship projects is a suite of solutions for menopausal women, including customized health programs, coaching services, and innovative workplace interventions. These programs focus on:
▪ Symptom management: Practical advice on managing hot flashes, sleep disturbances, and mood swings.
▪ Hormonal health education: Empowering women with knowledge about their changing bodies.
▪ Workplace advocacy: Helping companies create menopause-friendly environments, complete with policies and support systems that prioritize inclusivity and productivity.
Chelsea’s Transformative Impact: Statistics Tell the Story Chelsea’s holistic approach to women’s health resonates deeply, supported by global and regional data:
▪ A 2022 Deloitte study found that 20% of the global workforce is women aged 45-55, yet few employers have resources to support menopausal employees. Chelsea’s programs directly tackle this gap.
▪ Studies reveal that women are 50% more likely than men to quit their jobs after age 50 due to health challenges. By empowering women through workplace solutions, Elle International is not only improving lives but also
reducing gender disparities in the workforce.
Through Elle International, Chelsea also champions the role of nutrition, lifestyle, and technology in alleviating menopause symptoms. Her application, Womany, provides personalized health guidance, syncing with users’ work schedules and daily lives to optimize productivity and wellness.
Womany is a revolutionary health companion designed to empower women by providing personalized, science-backed support throughout every stage of their lives and health journey. From managing menstrual cycles to navigating perimenopause, menopause, and fertility planning and reproductive health conditions like PCOS and endometriosis, Womany leverages advanced technology to simplify complex health challenges. With features like hormone tracking, cycle syncing for optimizing productivity, and real-time advice on symptom management, it bridges the gap between traditional healthcare and everyday wellness. What sets Womany apart is its ability to integrate seamlessly into a user’s lifestyle, offering tailored recommendations for nutrition, exercise, and mental health. The app also educates and equips partners and workplaces to foster a more supportive environment. Whether you’re striving for balance, managing chronic conditions, or simply seeking clarity, Womany ensures that every woman feels seen, understood, and empowered to make informed decisions about her health. In a
world where women’s health is often misunderstood or neglected, Womany is the ultimate ally, ensuring no woman has to navigate her journey alone.
Advancing Health Equity Through Innovation
From tackling period poverty to addressing menopause, Elle International’s initiatives are grounded in cutting-edge solutions and transformative projects:
▪ ElleHealth: A platform empowering women with greater control over their health data, enabling integrated care across providers.
▪ Moxie: A smart dispenser ensuring access to critical women’s health products in rural areas, bridging the gap between need and supply.
▪ Manufacturing Revolution: Establishing Africa’s first plant-based fiber production facility to create eco-friendly menstrual products, positioning South Africa as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing.
A Journey Marked by Resilience and Recognition
Chelsea’s journey has been one of extraordinary perseverance. Despite personal tragedies, including the loss of her father to cancer and her sister to a heart attack, she has remained steadfast in her mission. Her dedication has earned her global acclaim: she is a Bloomberg New Economy Catalyst, a recipient of the World Women Leadership Award, an MIT SOLVE Semifinalist, a Vital Voices Global Fellow, and a Mastercard Women SME Leaders
Award honoree (Africa & Middle East), among numerous other accolades in healthcare innovation, are a testament to her visionary leadership.
Chelsea’s leadership extends to prominent global platforms, including her participation in the WSIS+20 High-Level Event and her role in the ITU Partner2Connect Digital Coalition, cementing her status as a changemaker driving transformative solutions for women worldwide.
“Every woman we help is a tribute to those I’ve lost and a reminder of why this work matters,” Chelsea says. “Empowering women to take control of their health isn’t just a goal—it’s a necessity.”
Looking Ahead: Unlocking the Potential of Every Women
Chelsea’s work is more than a professional endeavor; it is a deeply personal mission to create a ripple effect of empowerment. From menstrual health to menopause, she is transforming the narrative of women’s health at every stage of life.
“As we challenge societal norms and break barriers, I believe we’re creating a future where every woman feels valued, supported, and equipped to thrive,” Chelsea concludes. “This isn’t just about healthcare—it’s about dignity, equality, and unlocking the potential of every woman.”
I LEARNING ROBOTS
n an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping our world, understanding this transformative technology has become crucial. As the founder of Learning Robots, I’ve made it my mission to provide “the best way to discover AI” – a playful solution that demystifies AI and allows everyone to “become the master of AI”. Our approach is not just about education; it’s about empowerment, fostering a future where AI is understood, appreciated, and responsibly utilized by all.
The
AI Revolution: Fascination and Fear
AI fascinates us with its potential to solve complex problems, enhance productivity, and push the boundaries of human achievement. Yet, it also instills fear – fear of the unknown, fear of job displacement, and fear of a future where machines might outsmart humans.
This dichotomy of fascination and fear is natural. Humans have always been wary of what they don’t understand. However, this wariness becomes problematic when it hinders progress or leads to misinformed decisions. The real
danger lies not in AI itself, but in the potential misuse or misunderstanding of this powerful technology.
The Imperative of AI Literacy
Consider this: if only a handful of people among billions truly comprehend AI, we risk creating a world where this technology is poorly regulated, misused, or feared unnecessarily. On the other hand, if everyone possesses even a basic understanding of AI, we can rationally assess its risks and limitations, and harness its potential for the greater good.
This is where Learning Robots comes in. Our mission is to democratize AI knowledge, not just for tech enthusiasts or computer scientists, but as a crucial skill for everyone in the 21st century.
The Learning Robots Approach: Education Through Play
How to make abstract concepts of Machine Learning understandable to everybody? At Learning Robots, we
believe that we first need to make them tangible, and by tangible we mean touch them and visualize them. This is why we have unique tool, AlphAI – a robot and a visualization software – and a unique pedagogical approach that combines education with play.
One of our most popular activities is the robot race. Participants work in teams to train their robots, adding data to the training database to improve the robot performance. It is a joyful team-building activity: from 8 to 80 years old, everybody gets so excited when the robot they trained self-drives in the circuit, competing against others for the first position.
Our next activities allow people to visualize and finetune artificial neural networks, from toy models involving simple sensors of the robot to modern architectures of generative AI models.
Real-World Impact: A Case Study
The effectiveness of our approach is best illustrated through the experiences of our clients. Take, for instance, a French leading luxury brand, who approached us to help with team building and AI acculturation. Our stakeholder, Head of AI at this company, shares his experience:
“The Learning Robots solution for introducing AI to our staff has created a great deal of enthusiasm within our group, and we now want to activate the second “Machine Learning training” level so we can scale up.”
AI education doesn’t have to be dry or intimidating. It is rather when it appears fun that it can be a catalyst for innovation and collaboration within organizations.
Bridging the AI Knowledge Gap
Beyond corporate team building, we partner with educational institutions to introduce AI concepts to students from an early age. By integrating our tools and methodologies into curricula, we’re helping to prepare the next generation for a world where AI will be ubiquitous.
We organize public events and workshops, reaching out to curious individuals who want to understand AI better. We are actively reaching out to educational leaders, HR directors, and R&D departments to integrate our AlphAI solution into their existing programs. We tailor our solution to their specific needs, whether it’s for university curricula, corporate training programs, or R&D initiatives.
But again: Shouldn’t we fear AI?
AI is not a threat in itself. In fact, it cannot. One of our core teachings is that AI learns by optimizing a goal, and it is only humans who set this goal: AI doesn’t have any ability to set its own goal. Neither can AI optimize vaguely defined goals such as “make humans happy”, as such goals will always need human intelligence and sensitivity to be appreciated.
So the question is rather: what will humans do with AI? For sure there are many dangers of humans misusing AI, as much as there are opportunities for improving our existence using AI. We emphasize that, to make the opportunities win over the threats, we need to close the knowledge gap and increase people’s awareness of how AI works and what it can be used for.
A Call to Action: Join the AI Literacy Movement
As we stand on the brink of an AI-driven future, the need for widespread AI literacy has never been more pressing. We call on educators, business leaders, policymakers, and individuals to join us in this crucial mission. Together, we can build a future where AI is not a source of fear, but a tool for progress, understood and guided by an informed global community.

With its ability to process vast amounts of data and make precise predictions, AI is rapidly transforming industries and providing innovative solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change. From tracking icebergs to enhancing waste management, AI is a critical ally in the fight to protect our planet.
A to Oceans From Icebergs
2. AI Helps Predict Climate Disasters
AI is being used to predict and mitigate the impact of climate disasters, which are becoming more frequent due to climate change. In São Paulo, Brazil, Sipremo, an AI-driven company, forecasts the location, timing, and severity of climate disasters, enabling businesses and governments to take proactive measures. This includes adjusting event schedules, preparing for extreme weather conditions, and managing resources to minimize damage.
3. Helping Industry Decarbonize
Here are 10 ways AI is already helping to tackle climate change.
1. AI Knows Where and How Fast Icebergs Are Melting
As the climate warms, icebergs are melting at an accelerated rate, contributing to rising sea levels. AI is helping scientists track this process with remarkable speed and accuracy. Researchers at the University of Leeds have developed an AI system that can analyze satellite images and map large Antarctic icebergs in just one-hundredth of a second—10,000 times faster than a human could. This technology enables researchers to study the volume of meltwater released by icebergs and gain insights into how this process affects the global climate.
AI is also playing a pivotal role in decarbonizing industries that are major sources of greenhouse gas emissions, such as mining, oil, and gas. Companies like Eugenie.ai are using AI to track emissions from industrial operations by combining satellite data with real-time sensor data. The platform analyzes this information to help companies reduce their emissions by 20-30%, offering a valuable tool in the quest to lower the industrial carbon footprint.
4. Mapping Deforestation with AI
Deforestation is a major driver of climate change, as forests play a crucial role in storing carbon. AI, combined with satellite imagery, is helping map deforestation’s impact more efficiently than ever. Companies like Space Intelligence are using AI to remotely measure deforestation rates and track carbon storage in forests across more than 30 countries. This data is vital for understanding the environmental toll of deforestation and
supporting global conservation efforts.
5. Helping African Communities Adapt to Climate Risks
In Africa, where many communities are highly vulnerable to climate change, AI is being used to predict weather patterns and help with adaptation strategies. The United Nations’ IKI Project is utilizing AI to assist communities in Burundi, Chad, and Sudan by providing critical information about climate risks. This includes improving access to clean energy, implementing waste management systems, and promoting reforestation—ensuring that vulnerable populations are better prepared to cope with climate impacts.
6. AI is Helping to Recycle More Waste
Waste management is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, with landfills releasing large amounts of methane. AI is being leveraged to make recycling processes more efficient. Greyparrot, a UK-based startup, has developed an AI system that monitors waste facilities, identifying materials that could be recycled but are currently being sent to landfills. In 2022 alone, the system helped recover 86 tonnes of material that would otherwise have gone to waste, significantly reducing emissions and environmental impact.
7. AI is Cleaning Up the Ocean
Plastic pollution in our oceans is a major contributor to climate change, releasing harmful greenhouse gases and threatening marine life. The Ocean Cleanup, a Netherlands-based organization, uses AI to create detailed maps of ocean litter and improve cleanup efficiency. Using
AI-powered object detection, the organization can identify and remove plastic waste from remote areas more effectively than traditional methods, such as trawlers or airplanes.
8.
AI for a Better Climate Tools WishList
AI’s potential in combating climate change is still growing, and companies like Google DeepMind are working on creating more advanced tools to help tackle the crisis. Google DeepMind, in collaboration with Climate Change AI, is building a “wish list” of datasets that would aid in developing AI-driven solutions to climate challenges. Inspiration and Identity: How Her Leadership Style Took Shape
Dr. Clāra Ly-Le says that I never intended to be a leader; I see myself more as an incidental entrepreneur. When I founded EloQ Communications, my focus was on addressing a gap in Vietnam’s PR industry rather than stepping into a leadership role. I wasn’t entirely ready for the demands of leadership, and much of my growth came from navigating the journey as it unfolded. As the business flourished, the leadership transition felt organic, requiring me to embrace greater responsibilities to secure the success of both the company and the talented individuals within it.
Dr. Clāra Ly-Le embodies a leadership style infused with empathy and collaboration, dedicated to cultivating a nurturing atmosphere where her team feels both valued and inspired. She champions the idea of empowering her team to think independently while fostering a culture of open communication.
“I strive to lead by example, demonstrating that learning is a journey and that true leadership isn’t about perfection—it’s about a genuine commitment to growth and unwavering support for those around you,” says Dr. Clāra Ly-Le.

The 7 Game-Changing CLOUD COMPUTING Trends Set to Disrupt Business in 2025
Imagine stepping into a future where quantum computing is as easy to access as checking your inbox, where AI isn’t just a tool but the brains behind your entire cloud infrastructure, and where cloud services and edge computing fuse together to deliver near-instantaneous responses. This isn’t science fiction — it’s the new reality of cloud computing by 2025, and it’s about to change how businesses think, work, and innovate.
We’ve already witnessed the cloud’s power to revolutionize industries. But in just a few years, its evolution will move from incremental improvements to a complete reinvention of what’s possible. Companies that understand and leverage these seismic shifts in cloud computing will not only survive — they’ll thrive in ways we can’t fully predict yet.
Here’s a look at the seven cloud trends that will define business success by 2025.
1. AI Becomes the Brain Behind Cloud Operations
Forget about managing cloud resources manually — in 2025, AI will take the wheel. It’s not just a service running in the background; AI will be the invisible force optimizing your cloud’s every action. Imagine a cloud system that adapts to your needs before you even know they exist: dynamically reallocating resources, scaling up or down without a hitch, and spotting security threats before they have a chance to strike. For companies embracing this shift, the result will be nothing short of
transformative: hyper-efficient operations, slashed costs, and performance levels that were once thought impossible.
2. The Cloud and Edge Computing Will Become One By 2025, the once distinct worlds of cloud and edge computing will converge, creating an integrated, ultra-fast computational ecosystem. And it won’t require massive on-site hardware investments; instead, quantum computing will be accessed as a cloud service. Leading tech giants — IBM, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon — are already making this cutting-edge technology available to businesses of all sizes. The potential is staggering: from revolutionizing drug discovery to creating encryption methods so secure that breaking them would be impossible, quantum computing in the cloud will unlock breakthroughs that were previously unimaginable.
4. Hybrid and Multi-Cloud Strategies Become Standard Practice
The idea of putting all your business data in one cloud provider’s hands will seem archaic by 2025. Instead,
businesses will adopt complex hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, seamlessly integrating private and public clouds across multiple platforms. This isn’t just about avoiding vendor lock-in; it’s about crafting a flexible, adaptable cloud infrastructure that can quickly respond to emerging opportunities, disruptions, or risks. The organizations that can orchestrate these sophisticated environments will have an edge in the increasingly competitive cloud-driven marketplace.

End users, on the other hand, will experience personalized interfaces that adapt to their skill levels, making complex cloud services more intuitive and accessible. This trend is pushing cloud platforms beyond generic solutions, enabling tailored experiences that deliver the perfect fit for businesses of all kinds.
6. The Supercloud Emerges as the Ultimate Data Ecosystem
7.
Sustainability Becomes the Heart of Cloud Strategy
By 2025, cloud computing will no longer be seen as a neutral tool — it will be a key player in achieving corporate sustainability goals. As environmental concerns continue to grow, companies and cloud providers will face increasing pressure to reduce their carbon footprints. Data centers will transition to renewable energy sources, more efficient infrastructure will be the norm, and carbon-neutral practices will be critical to maintaining competitive advantage. For businesses looking to stay ahead, adopting sustainable cloud practices will be essential — not just for the environment, but for long-term profitability and success.
Embrace the Future, or Get Left Behind
By 2025, these trends will no longer be on the horizon — they’ll be the new reality for every business. Whether it’s AI-optimized cloud infrastructure, quantum computing breakthroughs, or seamless hybrid environments, these innovations are set to reshape how we think about technology. The companies that adapt quickly will have a massive advantage — able to innovate, scale, and compete at levels previously thought impossible. Those that don’t embrace these shifts? Victoria sees accelerated digital transformation as a key trend, with organizations facing pressure to adopt new technologies quickly. This will require businesses to be agile, delivering innovative and scalable solutions that adapt to evolving business needs.
She highlights the growing trend of workforce reskilling and upskilling, driven by automation and AI. Companies must invest in preparing their people for the future of work. Her firm’s expertise in organizational change management helps clients develop programs to reskill employees and foster a culture of change.
“I see a growing focus on human-centered transformation, where technology is key, but success depends on effective change management and employee adoption. By balancing technology and people, we can achieve impactful and sustainable change. My strategy is built on three pillars: continuous innovation, strategic partnerships, and a flexible workforce. Unstoppable You invests in R&D, collaborate with expert partners, and develop a skilled, adaptable workforce to help clients lead in their industries and stay ahead of trends,” says Victoria.
2025 Entrepreneurship 2025 Entrepreneurship
E
ntrepreneurship is evolving. The latest insights from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) reveal three powerful trends poised to reshape what it means to be an entrepreneur by 2025. These trends are not just reshaping the business world—they are transforming society itself.
Here’s what the future holds:
1. Young Entrepreneurs Leading the Charge Toward Purpose-Driven Businesses
For decades, the face of entrepreneurship has been dominated by older, seasoned business leaders. However, the latest GEM report shows a significant shift. Young adults, especially those aged 18 to 24, are driving the entrepreneurial surge in the U.S. This age group now leads in both entrepreneurial activity and intentions, with 24% of young adults engaged in some form of entrepreneurial activity—higher than any other age group.
What sets these young entrepreneurs apart is their unwavering commitment to creating businesses with a purpose. They’re not just seeking profits; they’re focused on making a positive impact on society and the environment. Many are channeling their energy into sustainability-driven ventures, prioritizing ecological preservation, social justice, and community impact as core business goals.
This shift toward impact-driven entrepreneurship is more than just a trend — it’s a fundamental shift in business priorities. Young entrepreneurs are keen to build companies that tackle global challenges like climate change, poverty, and inequality. The GEM data underscores this, showing that these entrepreneurs are not only talking the talk but are actively building businesses that align with their values.
However, the path isn’t always smooth. While young entrepreneurs are starting businesses at higher rates, they also face a higher failure rate. The discontinuation rate for 18- to 24-year-olds is 15%, the highest of any age group. These challenges are mainly due to inexperience and limited access to capital. Still, the enthusiasm and resilience of this generation offer a beacon of hope for the future. With the right resources and support, this young cohort could drive profound, lasting change in the business world.
2. Closing the Gender Gap in Tech Entrepreneurship
In another exciting development, the gender gap in technology entrepreneurship is narrowing. Traditionally, the tech industry has been overwhelmingly male-dominated, but the GEM report shows promising signs of change. In 2023, the difference between men and women starting businesses in the Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) sector dropped to just 1%. Women now account for 8% of tech entrepreneurs, compared to 9% of men.
This represents a significant milestone, showing that women are increasingly entering the tech startup space. This narrowing of the gender gap highlights the progress made toward creating more inclusive environments for female entrepreneurs in tech. But while this development is encouraging, there’s still more work to be done. To ensure continued progress, it is vital to keep fostering environments where women — and other underrepresented groups — have equal opportunities to thrive in the tech world.
3. A More Optimistic Future for Black and Hispanic Entrepreneurs
The GEM report also reveals a particularly bright future for Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs, who are showing higher levels of optimism and confidence in their entrepreneurial abilities compared to their white counterparts. These groups are not only more likely to start businesses, but they also exhibit lower levels of fear of failure, a crucial trait for entrepreneurial success.
Black entrepreneurs, in particular, demonstrate remarkable resilience and self-assurance, which are essential qualities for overcoming the unique barriers they face in starting and scaling businesses. This optimism is inspiring, especially given the systemic challenges many face in accessing capital, mentorship, and networks.
However, the report underscores that while the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and thriving within these communities, there is still much work to be done to ensure that entrepreneurial ecosystems provide equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of race or background.
A Glimpse into the Future of Entrepreneurship
The key insights from this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report paint a picture of a dynamic and inclusive entrepreneurial future. The surge of young, sustainability-focused entrepreneurs marks a new era where business isn’t just about profit, but about creating meaningful change. These innovators are starting businesses at a pivotal moment, as the world seeks solutions to critical issues like climate change, poverty, and economic recovery. Young entrepreneurs, particularly those driven by sustainability, are rethinking the very purpose of business. The tech world is becoming more inclusive, with women leading the charge toward closing the gender gap. Meanwhile, Black and Hispanic entrepreneurs are displaying newfound confidence, resilience, and optimism.
The future of entrepreneurship is not just about creating profits; it’s about creating a better, more equitable world. But to realize this vision, there must be continued support for these groups of entrepreneurs, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources — from funding to mentorship — that will allow them to succeed and make a difference.
As we look ahead to 2025, one thing is clear: entrepreneurship is being reshaped by purpose, diversity, and innovation. With the right tools and opportunities, these new waves of entrepreneurs will not only drive economic growth but also create businesses that leave a lasting, positive impact on society. The entrepreneurial landscape is changing — and the future looks brighter than ever.
