2015 IMPACT REPORT

GLOBAL GLIMPSE

is an innovative education non-profit that works to inspire America’s next generation to become responsible global citizens through after school programming and immersion in the developing world.

ABOUT US

WE BELIEVE

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

First-hand exposure to different countries, cultures and people is one of the most powerful educational experiences a young person can have. Young people from all backgrounds should have access to the experiences and 21st century skills that prepare them to become successful and responsible global citizens.

We prepare young people to become responsible and successful global citizens by developing key competencies:

1% of U.S. high school students study abroad and 82% of those students come from affluent, Caucasian backgrounds. Global Glimpse is on a mission to change that.

AWARENESS

Personal: Increased understanding of the relationship between oneself and others in the world. Local and Global: Increased ability to recognize and understand issues of local and global concern.

AGENCY

Courage: Increased ability to take risks and step out of one’s comfort zone Commitment: Increased ability to set and follow-through on responsibilities.

ENGAGEMENT

Increased development of personal, educational, and career aspirations.

WHAT WE DO PROGRAM MODEL Global Glimpse is a two year program during the junior and senior year of high school. We engage high school juniors in a year-long preparatory curriculum at their school that culminates in a 3 week immersion in a developing country. Diversity is at the core of our education model and our students travel in groups that are socioeconomically, racially, and ethnically diverse. Students return home to practically apply lessons from their experience abroad to college and beyond through a follow-on “Alumni Ambassador leadership program during their senior year. Our program motivates students to excel academically and provides them with practical knowledge and inter-personal skills that support them to be resilient through the challenging transition to college. We use a sliding scale fee-for-service model to make experiential education abroad accessible to students from all socioeconomic backgrounds. Over 80% of our operating costs are covered by program fees.

WHO WE SERVE DIVERSITY MATTERS

2015 Student scholarship Breakdown

We believe that closing the achievement gap requires not only providing low-income youth with opportunities that will set them on a path towards success, but also providing them with experiences that allow them to operate comfortably across socioeconomic lines. It is just as important for students from more affluent backgrounds to understand the realities low income communities face in this country as internationally.

OUR EDUCATORS

VITO CHIALA

Principal, Overfelt High School (San Jose, CA) “I have seen a profound impact in both the maturity and leadership ability of my students who participate in Global Glimpse. Many of the highest achieving students from top high schools won’t even have the breadth of experiences and skills that these students have when they enter college. Global Glimpse provides students with an expanded world view and develops the compassion within them that our next generation needs to succeed as young global leaders.”

GLOBAL GLIMPSE LEADERS (GGLs)

Global Glimpse Leaders (GGLs) are program champions in our partner schools. GGLs dedicate 80+ hours during the school year and 2.5 weeks in the summer to support the Global Glimpse program. Since 2008, we have trained and supported over 270 GGLs to become more effective educators.

Several of our family members have commented on how she’s grown in to such a stronger leader. She had leadership skills before the trip, but the program allowed her to grow even more confident and reflective about her actions as a global citizen. She came home extremely grateful for the experience and even more grateful and supportive towards her family and the local community.”
