In 2008, 2 million people died of AIDS, 2.7 million were newly infected and 33.4 million were living with HIV. Reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015, as specified in the sixth Millennium Development Goal (MDG), requires a tailored approach with a community and population appropriate combination of interventions.
