Join members of the Maternal Newborn Child Health (MNCH) Roundtable for a Mother's Day Twitter Relay on May 8 to discuss the vital role of the United States government in protecting mothers, children, and babies everywhere. Follow the conversations and be sure to use #savemomsandkids in your comments. .

Save the Children released its 16th annual State of the World's Mothers Report, The Urban Disadvantage. This year's report focuses on the urgent need to ensure that children and mothers living in poor urban areas have the same opportunities to survive and thrive as those living in wealthier urban areas.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Global Health Policy Center released its latest report Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health in Tanzania with an accompanying microsite: maternaltz.csis.org. This publication tells an immersive story using data rich visuals, the latest research, and original images from the field.

The second round survey on updating the Global Strategy for Women's, Children's and Adolescent' Health is now online at womenchildrenpost2015.org until June 5. It seeks inputs on the zero draft of the Strategy (published on May 5). All feedback provided through this consultation process will be considered in developing the final version of the Global Strategy to be launched in September.

Advocacy Update 

Calling it "a blueprint for the next generation of American diplomacy," Secretary John Kerry unveiled the U.S. Department of State's Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Reviewon April 28. The report focuses on four strategic priorities for State and USAID: the fight against violent extremism, building open societies, promoting shared prosperity, and curbing climate change. Center for Global Development's Amanda Glassman and Rachel Silverman point out in their insightful new blog that global health is conspicuously absent in the report, a major missed opportunity and potentially risky oversight stemming from the sidelining of the U.S. Government's Global Health Initiative.
