GHC is headed to the Sixty Eighth World Health Assembly (WHA) in Geneva in May. This year, GHC will host a few side events including a workshop on the SDG indicator process. To participate in this and other side events, as well as gain access to hotel room blocks, access to the official meeting, and more, please contact us. Participation in the delegation is reserved for GHC members in good standing. If you would like to submit a statement to the WHA via GHC, please follow the guidelines here.

GHC's first Happy Hour Salon was a huge success! GHC members mixed and mingled at Dirty Martini in Washington, DC. Be sure to join us at the end of March for the next GHC Salon. Details coming soon.

On Monday, March 16, GHC, in coordination with the global health advocacy community, will release Taking Stock: Why U.S. investments in global health matter. This online publication is a valuable resource on critical global health topics and demonstrates the importance of maintaining U.S. support for global health programs.

Upcoming GHC Events 

GHC will launch its first ever World Health Assembly (WHA) Policy Scrum Webinar Series onWednesday, March 11 at 11:00 AM ET. The topics of the first webinar include the health workforce and infectious diseases. Register here.

A process has been underway since late 2014 to develop the Global Financing Facility (GFF) for RMNCAH. On Thursday, March 19 at 10:00 AM ET, GHC will hold a briefing that will bring together members of civil society engaged in the GFF development process to discuss progress thus far and next steps. Presentations will be made by GFF Civil Society representatives to the Oversight Group and the Business Planning Team. Registration details to be released soon.

GHC is hosting its annual The Future of Global Health 2015 (TFGH15) networking event onThursday, April 16 in Washington, DC. Mark your calendars and get ready for

Global Health Roundup 

GHC member CUGH is getting ready for their annual conference to be held in Boston, MA at the end of March. See here for the latest information on speakers and registration.

After five years at USAID, Rajiv Shah stepped down as the Administrator of the largest bilateral donor agency. Shah led the agency's response to the Haiti earthquake and Ebola, as well as looking at how USAID could become more innovative. Ambassador Alfonso Lenhardtwill serve as Acting Administrator at USAID until a new Administrator is confirmed. ReadGHC Executive Director Christine Sow's congratulations letter to him.

 

GHC Member JSI is bringing the inspirational documentary I AM A GIRL to Gallery Place Theater in Washington, DC on March 12 at 7:30 PM ET. I AM A GIRL reveals the reality of what it means to be a girl in the 21st century. The documentary contains stories of strength, hope, courage and a refusal to be second best. Advocacy Update 

 

President Obama sent his proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2016 to Congress in early February. PAI provides an in-depth look at the proposed funding for family planning and reproductive health. The Fiscal Year 2016 appropriations process has started on Capitol Hill. This week, Secretary of State John Kerry testified before both the House and Senate Appropriations State, Foreign Operations subcommittees. USAID Acting Administrator Alfonso Lenhardt will testify on March 3 before the House Appropriations subcommittee. It is expected that a Budget resolution, which sets budget allocations for each subcommittee, will be passed this year. Read more about the President's proposed budget.
