The call for applications for the 2015 GHC-GBCHealth Business Action on Health Awards has been extended. These awards highlight the important and innovative contributions of the corporate sector to improving global health outcomes. Corporations and their NGO partners are encouraged to apply. Extended deadline: June 30.

Upcoming GHC Events 

GHC will host a Pre-Summit Meeting for civil society and other non-state actors in preparation for the Measurement and Accountability for Results in Health Summit (MA4H) on June 8 in Washington, DC. GHC coordinated a civil society statement on measurement and accountability that will be presented at the Summit. Please emailDanielle Heiberg if you have questions. GHC recently returned from the Sixty-eighth World Health Assembly (WHA), which took place May 17-26. Tune in to GHC's WHA Debrief for a live webinar on Friday, June 12 at11:00 AM EDT to hear comments and feedback about WHA from some of GHC's delegates as well as leadership from US Department of Health and Human Services. Save the date for GHC's next Global Finance Facility (GFF) Briefing for Civil Society and the Private Sector on Friday, June 19 from 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM EDT in Washington, DC. World Bank Group Senior Director for the Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice, Tim Evans, and USAID Assistant Administrator for Global Health, Ariel Pablos-Méndez, will be guest speakers. The Measurement and Accountability for Health Summit (MA4H) will be held from June 9-11 in Washington DC. Participation at the Summit is by invitation only; however, the World Bank will be now live webcasting the proceedings of Day 1. The agenda has been postedhere. GHC will attend and will provide information on Summit deliberations and next steps. GHC Member, Rabin Martin, has released a new report, Health Systems Approaches to Evidence-Based Designs. This report examines the common themes that have emerged from the programs in Mexico, China, and India to better evaluate Universal Health Coverage approaches on a national scale. NCD Child has just shared a Call to Action on NCDs, Child Survival, and Child Health,launched at the Sixty-Eighth World Health Assembly. The brief is directed at various stakeholders to effectively impact the post-2015 health agenda through the prevention and treatment of NCDS in children and adolescents.

Advocacy Update 

This week the House State-Foreign Operations appropriations subcommittee met to mark up the draft FY16 appropriations bill for foreign assistance programs and conducting U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy. The hearing was largely pro forma with members giving statements on the bill and no amendments offered. The bill was passed and sent to the full committee for mark up, tentatively scheduled for June 10. The draft bill includes over $8.45 billion for global health programs at the Department of State ($5.67 billion) and USAID ($2.78 billion). Specific funding levels should be released in soon. A webcast of the hearing is now available.
