--Featured GHC News-Update on Financing for Development (FfD3) Conference:
GHC recently participated in the FfD3 Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from July 13-16, hosting an open conversation with civil society on the Global Financing Facility (GFF) process. On July 13, the World Bank Group, the United Nations and the governments of Canada, Norway and the United States formally launched the GFF. Through domestic and international, private and public funding, $12 billion has already been aligned to countryled five-year investment plans in four initial countries and new commitments were made the by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the governments of Canada, Japan and the United States. During the FfD3 Conference, The ONE Campaign hosted a #DataRevolution event to address the "data crisis" - the lack of adequate and quality data to monitor and achieve the new sustainable development goals. At the FfD3 side event, GHC, along with The ONE Campaign, governments, businesses and civil society organizations, made commitments to address the data crisis through funding pledges, the opening up of valuable data sets, technological innovation and analytic support. Read GHC's commitments. Also as part of this initiative, The ONE Campaign launched the "Follow the Money" tracker to highlight examples of citizens using open data to advocate for change. .

An updated list of proposed indicators for the SDGs was released this week by the United Nations Statistics Division. The list includes two indicators on universal health care coverage and financial risk protection, which had previously been removed. Member states of the Inter-Agency Expert Group will continue to provide feedback and comments on the revised indicators. PATH, a GHC member organization, recently launched Innovation Countdown 2030 and released a report, Reimagining Global Health, which features 30 lifesaving innovations with potential to support reaching the health targets of the UN SDGs over the next 15 years. You can help promote this initiative on social media with the hashtag #IC2030. . A new World Bank report, "Health-care worker mortality and the legacy of the Ebola epidemic," warns that the disproportionate number of Ebola deaths among health care workers could have serious consequences for future maternal health in West Africa. The report suggests urgent, substantial investment in health systems is necessary to both meet basic needs and limit secondary health effects due to workforce depletion. . To bring more awareness to the International Health Regulations (IHR), a framework to help countries better report and respond to public health emergencies, the CDC is providing an in-depth look at the IHR. The CDC website provides articles, videos and infographics demonstrating how the IHR are connected to global health security and how they impact CDC's work to keep people safe. .
Advocacy Update
FY2016 Appropriations Update: With the end of the current fiscal year looming on the horizon, there are few working weeks left for Congress to pass appropriation bills. The State and Foreign Operations Appropriations bill is no longer expected to be voted on in the House, and it's unlikely that any appropriations bill will go to the Senate floor. It seems inevitable that there will be a budget deal when Congress returns from its August recess. See the updated FY16 appropriations chart. . .
