In the General English classes, you will: • Develop a strong understanding of English • Build your vocabulary • Improve your idioms and grammar • Practise listening, speaking, reading and writing • Learn to speak English more like a British person

In addition you will do another 6 hours per week of one of the following subjects: Natural English: You will get lots of opportunity to practise your speaking skills, learn English for everyday, practical situations and learn about life in the UK. No exams, no grammar, no coursebooks – just lots of practice! IELTS: Students who wish to study at British universities need to sit the IELTS exam to prove their level of English. On this course you will: • Learn exam techniques to help you pass your exams • Sit regular practice tests to assess your progress

If you plan to do either an under-graduate or postgraduate course at a British university, you can join our Pre-university Preparation course. You will study General English in the mornings (15 hours), plus IELTS (10 hours).

Exam dates: See website for details IH Aberdeen is an approved University of Cambridge ESOL exam centre, so at the end of your course you can sit your Cambridge exam at IH Aberdeen. PET (Preliminary English Test) is an intermediate level qualification. It shows you are able to use your English language skills for work, study and travel. Recognised all over the world, you can use the FCE exam (First Certificate in English) or CAE exam (Cambridge English: Advanced) for university entry or to enhance your CV.

Our social programme Fun Cultural Educational

There’s no doubt that integrating our busy social programme into your life at the school will help you to learn English more effectively and more quickly. The events are fun and varied: from drinks in the local pub, to walking tours around some of Scotland’s most beautiful countryside, to our unique Ceilidhs – traditional country dance parties! Social events can be at lunchtime, in the evenings and at weekends, so there are lots of opportunities to get involved in a great activity and make some new friends.

Homestay We can offer full time students the chance to live with a local family. It’s a great way for you to improve your English and get to know the Scottish way of life. We have different options: homestay with breakfast and evening meals or self-catering for students who want to make their own meals. Student Residence This is a great option for students who want to live in a friendly student environment. The rooms share kitchens and a lounge. Some rooms share bathrooms and some are en suite.
