GETTING THERE & AROUND
Rarotonga International Airport is the main international gateway to the Cook Islands. It is located in Avarua, Rarotonga. Direct flights arrive from Auckland (AKL), Sydney (SYD), Los Angeles (LAX) and Tahiti (PPT). Once in Rarotonga, travelers can transfer to the smaller, domestic airports on Aitutaki, Mangaia, Enua, Mauke and Mitiaro islands via Air Rarotonga. Some resorts offer airport transfers. Two public buses service Rarotonga, and taxis offer another option for getting around. Scooters, bicycles and rental cars are also available.

Avarua Located on the north coast of Rarotonga, Avarua, the Cook Islands capital, is home to numerous shops and restaurants. Visit Punanga Nui Market and browse local handicrafts, jewelry, books, fresh fruit, clothing and other souvenirs. Mount Maungapu Take a hike to the top of Mount Maungapu, the highest point on Aitutaki. The mountain provides stunning 360-degree views of the island’s lush landscape.
