Hugely Anticipated New Phuket Resort Opens Located within the lush woodlands of Kamala in Phuket, Keemala embraces a Thai cultural philosophy and blends the fictional history of four indigenous clans with the decadence of an upscale resort. The 38 villas have been inspired by stories, cultures, traditions, and lifestyles of these Phuket settlers and is a stark contrast to most hotel accommodation. Keemala offers four avant-garde villa choices all complete with private pools and offer a range of both sea and mountain views. The sixteen ‘Clay Pool Cottages’ reflect the earthiness of the ‘Pa-Ta-Pea’ (earth) clan who believed in a strong connection to the earth and harnessed agriculture as their trade. The tent-like structure and wildlife inspired prints and textures of the seven ‘Tent Pool Villas’ reflect the nomadic way of life of the ‘Khon-Jorn’ (wanderer) clan who consisted of foragers, performers and traders. The seven imaginative ‘Tree Pool Houses’ use building techniques to give the impression that the structures are suspended from trees to represent the ‘We-Ha’ (sky) clan who worshipped the universe.

Wonderful Malaysia

Shanghai - JW Marriott
Marinis 57
Or you can try one of the hundreds of local food halls, where the meals are cheap and due to the huge volume of customers really, really fresh. Do try the traditional Malaysian Roti along with a beer which costs about $NZ3 at the most. One thing that almost every food outlet has in common is great service and presentation. Food is their passion. Business dinners are long affairs but worth it as so much care is taken over each course and there is none of the Kiwi ‘who’s got this dish’ If you want to walk off your dinner, there is no end of sophisticated clubs and bars to end or begin the evening.
Skybar - Traders Hotel
T
o know Malaysia is to love Malaysia - a bubbling, bustling melting-pot of races and religions where Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in peace and harmony. The country’s multiculturalism has made Malaysia a gastronomical paradise and home to hundreds of colourful festivals. Malaysians love shopping, which explains the vast number of luxury malls, stores and street-side stalls in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. From designer goods to the latest electronic gadgets, the constantly changing product range includes an extensive collection of designer labels from the fashion capitals of the world. And one of the best things about shopping in KL is that you can find clothes that fit the average Kiwi from shoes to the latest fashions. One of the best shopping malls I experienced was ‘The Pavillion’ in the CBD, with
everything from Zara to H&M. And the prices sent me into a shopping frenzy. Once you divide the price shown by three, its hard to stop. Another highly recommended mall is the brand new discount outlet store just by KL airport think Dressmart but with the best brands in the world. There is even a free bus from the airport. Do what we did and go early to the airport, check your luggage in and hop on the bus and go shopping for one last time. If you are staying in KL for a few days make sure that that you leave your hotel and head out into the city. There is a real buzz in the air, with every restaurant, food hall packed and full of energy, not to mention serving amazing food. I can highly recommend the Chinese resturaunt at JW Marriott - Shanghai for classic Chinese cuisine, an amazing authentic experience.
18 Global Traveller
Sephora’s New Make-up Store A personal favourite of mine is Marinis57 on Mantells - a short distance from the Petronus Towers and towering above the city, this bar/nightclub has great music, amazing cocktails (again about a third of prices here in NZ) stunning views, not to mention the very well dressed patrons.
part of this country. Do what we did and take an hour’s flight and you are on the beautiful island of Langkawi where its all about nature with beautiful beaches and resorts to die for. I have always found Malaysia to be a very safe, clean, cheap and full of life.
Make sure you check out indoor cigar and whiskey bar off to the side. If you are after something a bit more causal visit the SkyBar at Traders hotel. Located on the top floor again the views are just unbelievable. Just be careful not to fall into the huge bar side pool. (It’s harder than you would think)
Most people speak good english and are so friendly it takes a while to get use to. You really can’t find a much better place to do trade, vacation or health tourism than Malaysia - after 7 visits, the country continues to surprise me.
KL has just so many options, one night after dinner, we simply got a foot massage in a reclining chair for an hour - total cost $NZ11 But the beauty of Malaysia is that eating amazing food, shopping till you drop and going out till late at night is only one

Malaysian Airline Signature Dish
Malaysia Airlines rolls out new A330 Business Class Seats
T
o say Malaysian Airlines has had a tough last few years would be a huge understatement. But after a recent trip to Malaysia Airlines headquarters there is a real sense of renewal and excitement in the air.
Malyasians don’t like delivering bad news so he had to open direct lines of communication between the workers and management. But foremost on their minds is safety of their passengers and planes.
This is mainly due to the new C.E.O. Christoph Mueller, who has been responsible for turnarounds at Lufthansa and Air Lingus. Visiting the brand new sparsely decorated modern head offices for a informal chat with Mr Mueller over lunch, it was clear that he and his management team had a huge job in front of them.
This is being followed up by renewing staff moral, consolidating routes and returning to profitability. It was very reassuring to know the airline has such an experienced international team now in charge.
But it was equally apparent that they are quietly confident about the future of Malaysian Airlines. For example Mueller, a pilot himself had a simple solution regarding the missing MH 370. Install another transponder in the back of the planes that the pilots can’t turn off. Compare that to the FAA’s plan to build a new plane locator system that is some three years away. The new team first moves were forming a new company and reducing the many levels of mid management. In Muellers own words
And safety is also the number one priority of the Malaysian Airline crew training centre, our next stop. With such a huge labour pool the airline can afford to hire the very best. There are full sized cabin mock ups including the new A380 where applicant’s train in very realistic conditions. We got to be passengers for a few hours with the crews every move watched by instructors on CCTV. Again it was a real eye opener with a grooming class, first aid training centre and a pool complex with full size escape slides, which were scarily high. Next it was off to Malayasian Airlines massive catering division, where hundreds of workers prepared thousand’s of fresh meals every day. It was a sight to behold watching chefs hand cook.
Malayisan Airlines signature dish, beef satay over open flames. Having watched each dish being completed by hand, it gave me a real appreciation of my business class meal on the way home.. What was most impressive was the dishes were shipped to the near by planes within minutes. And everything was made in house, curries, croissants not to mention a huge range of special meals.. Having meet with lots of Malaysian Airline staff from the new C.E.O, the new head of marketing, the head of staff training who had been with the airline for 30 years and after visiting the airline’s historical museum, I was sure that the airline will be continue to be around for many years to come. But after my excellent flight home I am now convinced of their bright future.
Malaysia Airlines has unveiled its new A330-300 Business Class seats at the World Travel Market in London. The new seats, which will be introduced in April 2016, will see all 15 A330-300 aircrafts fitted with the new configuration by September 2016. The business class seat pitch, which measures at 43 inches with a width of 20.6 inches and length of 76 inches (fully flat), is one of the best received business class seats in the industry. Sabah:
Best of Borneo S
ituated on the island of Borneo, Sabah is blessed with nature diversity, unique cultures, fun adventure, beautiful beaches, and fantastic cuisines for the adventurous taste buds. Tunku Abdul Rahman Park (TARP) is a cluster of five beautiful tropical islands namely; Sapi, Gaya, Manukan, Sulug and Mamutik Islands, each a unique destination of its own. A 250m Zipline from Gaya Island to Sapi Island with the Coral Flyer offers a short cut to travel between the two islands. Between Manukan and Gaya is Borneo Reef World, a Reef Activity Pontoon, where you can experience sea walking, a fun way to see the reefs up close and personal without getting your hair wet. Take a ride on the oldest running steam train in Sabah, the North Borneo Railway (NBR)
that runs 58kms with natural scenery from Kota Kinabalu the city center to Papar, the agricultural town, known as the rice bowl of Sabah. NBR creates an opportunity to experience the bygone era of the British North Borneo. For a quirky destination, the Upside Down House, which is the first of its kind in South East Asia. Everything inside the house, from furniture to household appliances, hover above your head, as the ceiling is actually the floor. This is an educational option for family trips besides the cooking lessons at nearby Upside Down House and Chocolate making class at Nabalu Lodge, Kundasang further up, about an hours’ drive. Make your way to the historical city of Sandakan, where the Sandakan Memorial Park is located, built to commemorate the tragedy of WWII.

Sandakan Day is held annually on 15th of August to honor those who perished. Anzac Day Service is also held here every April. A special service will be held there this year in conjunction with Anzac’s 100th year. Mount Kinabalu (4,095.2m) located at Kinabalu Park is still a favourite destination among visitors. Mountain activities are expected to be open for climbers in September this year after a moderate 5.9 magnitude earthquake that hit the mountain range had collapsed a section of the trail to the summit. For the extreme adventure, one can plan to trek up the top three highest mountains in Malaysia which are all located in Sabah, namely, Mt Kinabalu, Mt Trusmadi (2642m) and Mt Tambayukon (2579m) and have one of the rarest achievements for others to envy. Presently Sabah enjoys about 150 direct international flights weekly that connects its capital, Kota Kinabalu to major airports in Kuala Lumpur, Seoul (Korea), Tokyo (Japan), Hong Kong,

Brisbane’s Airtrain takes the stress out of travel
Brisbane
best part was that all I had to do was get off the train, go up a flight of escalators and I was in the Sofitel’s lobby. To me it was one of the most seamless airport-hotel transfers I have ever had, not to mention the cheapest considering you can pre-book online and get discounts of up to 15% if booked 7 or more days in advance. It’s just a shame we don’t have this service at Auckland Airport.
Once you land at Brisbane Airport, simply walk out the door, across the air bridge and you arrive at the Brisbane Airtrain station, which is the fastest, easiest and most costeffective way to reach Brisbane, the Gold Coast and all SEQ suburban stations from the airport On a recent trip I arrived at Brisbane at 9pm and had no trouble finding the Airtrain station. I had already booked my ticket online and paid using their PayPal technology on my mobile before leaving New Zealand. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and as there were only travellers at the station I didn’t stand out wheeling a suitcase.
Trains depart every 15 minutes in peak periods and every 30 minutes in off-peak periods so waiting time wasn’t an issue, and once on board I logged into the free Wi-Fi. Just 23 minutes later I was in the Brisbane CBD and because I was staying at the Sofitel, the
After a few days soaking up the Brisbane sunshine and fantastic restaurants, it was time to hit the Gold Coast – again no worries. I simply used the Train and Transfer service which provides transfers for customers travelling between Brisbane Airport and the Gold Coast with the option of a stop off in Brisbane city! This service includes the train and a chauffeured vehicle transfer between the train stations nearest to your Gold Coast accommodation.
Again the train arrived on time, was clean and had broadband on board. After a relaxing train journey through the countryside our limo awaited at the Gold Coast station closest to my accommodation. Combined Limousine is Airtrain’s partner and the driver gave a great tour into the Gold Coast pointing out sights I didn’t know existed. Again the train ride and transfer could not have been easier. It took me right up to the hotel door and the driver got the bags out for us – it was that simple. 10/10 for service, on time and safety

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC has arrived
F
rom a technical perspective, this exciting new mid-sized SUV features state-of- the-art driver assistance systems, outstanding fuel efficiency and the new 9G- TRONIC transmission as standard. At the same time, DYNAMIC SELECT dynamic transmission modes, 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, and the optional AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension increase not only the ride comfort, but also the vehicle’s sporty agility – whichever surface it is driving on. Visually, the body follows the clear and sensual design idiom which was demonstrated so successfully by the GLC Coupé show car concept. The design philosophy behind the new GLC essentially favours sensual purity and a modern aesthetic over the classic off-road look. The dynamic design exudes emotional appeal while also employing purist forms. Surfaces embodying a degree of tension and precise lines cite the clear design line followed by all state- of-the-art SUVs from Mercedes-Benz. On a technical level it sets new benchmarks in all disciplines including aerodynamics, offering a class leading Cd value of 0.31, while also ensuring capable performance in off-road environments. The paradigm shift in the area of design also affects the interior’s appearance. The new design idiom combines sensual purity with dynamic sportiness and embodies a new interpretation of modern luxury. The GLC’s interior is a brand hallmark and utilises high-class materials, featuring a hand-crafted character, such as the open-pore wood trim, meticulously finished details and an appealing overall touch and feel.
