Inigo Moré is a researcher and writer specialized in migrants' remittances and an expert in payment systems. He is the founder of Remesas.org, a Madrid-based research institute focusing on remittances. Inigo Moré is a member of the Payment Systems Market Expert Group that advises the European Commission on its payments systems policy. His latest book is “The borders of inequality”, published by University of Arizona Press in 2011. Lisa Andersson - Migration, remittances and household welfare: who benefits? Lisa Andersson is a researcher at the OECD Development Centre in Paris, Migration and development. She has a Ph.D from Gothenburg University and earlier this year published the paper "Migration, Remittances and Household Welfare in Ethiopia" that investigates the effect of international remittances and migration on household welfare in Ethiopia. Saif Omar, Forum Syd - Social remittances: diaspora and development cooperation Saif Omar works at the project support unit at Forum Syd, a Swedish non-governmental member organization, working with people and people's rights. Forum Syd funds diaspora initiatives in, for example, Somalia. Discussion: Remittances as development aid – a sustainable path to development? How to strengthen the development impact of remittances? What role for governments? Should remittances be a political issue at all? What are policy makers missing in the remittances debate? Moderator: Veronica Nordlund, Global Challenge
This workshop takes places during the People’s Global Action on Migration, Development and Human Rights, an independent civil society event parallel to the states-led Global Forum on Migration & Development (GFMD) process. Registration, is not compulsory but for information and updates, follow the PGA Facebook page. In order to finance the PGA participants area sked to contribute a symbolic sum to cover costs for venue, printing and food etc. The fee can be paid on arrival.
