LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR(S) 20 1 6 Su mmer Ser v i c e A d ven t u r es | DIREC TOR' S N OT E

Dear Parents, Students, and Alumni,

2

This is your invitation to meet people around the The past 26 years have seen tremendous change and world who continue to welcome us into their homes and communities, whose generosity we growth in the student travel industry. Global Works cannot match, and whom we commit ourselves to has put our mission of working with communities first and foremost when designing service programs collaborating with and learning from far into the future. We look forward to seeing you this summer! for high school students and groups. For Global Works the principles of community immersion and service based travel is in our DNA, rather than being Travel With Purpose, buzz words.

Fr i t z Mo r i a r t y Polly Moriarty

A common theme we hear from our students returning from the field is the profound impact their interactions with local people, community partners, our staff, and home stay families have had on their perspective of the world and themselves. They entered the program with the intent of giving back and making an impactful change, and in the process received much more in return than they ever could have imagined.

Polly and Fritz Moriarty

Directors, Global Works

We often hear back from our alumni about how these experiences have altered the course of their lives in both subtle and significant ways. We have played just a small part in that learning and inspiration. Our job is to provide a venue and the guidance for this organic learning to take place.

Ellie, Fritz, Polly, and Hanna

THE GLOBAL WORKS EXPERIENCE Our educational and student-first approach builds independence, self confidence, and leadership skills within our participants to foster personal growth. Much more than a vacation, Global Works international trips are the bridge for meaningful cultural exchange with people around the world. Global Works has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most professional and well organized student travel operations, with safety being a top priority.

TUITION DISCOUNTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS Global Works offers various scholarships and tuition discounts throughout the year, including early season discounts! Visit GLOBALWORKSTRAVEL.COM to learn more. SAVE-A-SPOT Our programs can fill up fast! Students can save-a-spot on their first-choice program during the decision-making process. To reserve a space, simply let us know the student’s name, the program of interest, your e-mail, and phone number. We will hold the spot for a limited time with absolutely no financial commitment!

We offer summer trips to thirteen destinations and take students to visit three to five different communities on each trip, providing a crosssection of cultures and environments—from rural villages to capital cities. Community service projects are an integral part of every Global Works trip and students can earn up to 60 community service hours. Our philosophy is to work WITH a village, not for a village.

OUR TRIP LEADERS

20

THEY’RE INSPIRATIONAL! With so many returning staff (about 70% each year), we feel our staff leadership is one of our greatest strengths. Global Works continues to hire skilled, knowledgeable, fun-loving women and men who organize and lead trips according to high standards of quality, safety and, of course, fun! They are leaders chosen for: experience working with students, flexibility, organization, language skills, a sense of humor, and responsibility. Additionally, the majority of our staff also works as professional educators and the average age of our staff is 28. With at least two adult staff on each summer program, we are able to achieve a sensitive awareness to the needs of our participants and communities. Most of our programs have an additional, on-site country director to serve as logistical backup for our groups (while working closely with the Global Works Home Office in Lafayette, Colorado). Each of our staff leaders must be certified in First Aid and CPR and participate in our staff training in late spring.

W W W.GLOBALWORKSTRAVEL.COM | 303.545.2202

STAFF TRAINING Each of our staff leaders are required to participate in our annual staff training. New and veteran staff come together from a variety of countries, cultures, and educational backgrounds. Our staff training provides an opportunity for leader teams to share service learning ideas and educational techniques, plan the details of their program, and gain knowledge of Global Works’ safety protocols and guidelines. With our Staff Manual as the guide, staff take part in workshops including: Community and Team Building, Homestays and Language Learning, Communication and Documentation, Travel Days, Service Learning, and Medical Scenarios. Staff training instills a deeper understanding of the Global Works culture of safety and our serviceoriented approach to programming.
