As a regional winner, Ooms now qualifies for one of 10 national scholarships worth $5,000. Kohl’s will also contribute $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on behalf of each national winner. The winners will be announced later this month. Ooms was selected for her work throughout the summer of 2008 to help organize and distribute more than 5 or 6 semitrailers full of supplies for families in Parkersburg impacted by the May 25, 2008 tornado. The supplies were through the Hope Reformed Church to help displaced and affected families. Kohl’s Cares for Kids scholarships are awarded annually to youths who have shown extraordinary initiative, creativity and selflessness in their community service efforts. Established in 2001, the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program is part of Kohl’s Cares for Kids, a philanthropic program focused on improving the lives of children. More than 2,000 store winners were also awarded $50 Kohl’s gift cards, as part of the scholarship

program, including: Emma Hall, 12, of Clear Lake, and Heather Kite, 6, of Forest City.
