General Manager Kim Pang said the Bar/Lounge to Socialize honor represents a premier lounge where there is free Live Music at the Big Wheel Bar every Friday and Saturday starting at 8pm. Diamond Jo Casino also won a Second Place Readers Choice honor for their Live Music…“It is a fun meeting place for anyone and everyone,” Pang said. The Woodfire Grille located inside Diamond Jo Casino took First Place for Restaurant Worth a Drive. A first-class dining experience, which is a “hidden secret in North Iowa,” said Pang. The Woodfire Grille is a signature contemporary steakhouse featuring USDA prime steaks and fresh seafood. “It attracts people from all over,” Pang noted. The Woodfire Grille features steak, seafood and pasta, plus an extensive wine list, all enhanced by a cozy fireside atmosphere. The Grille is accessed through the gaming floor, and is only open to guests 21 years of age and older. The Breakfast and Lunch Buffet at The Kitchen Buffet was named third in its category and has all-you-can-eat meals featuring food from around the world. The buffet serves lunch and dinner seven days a week plus brunch on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Cakes, pies and pastries are also served in The Kitchen Buffet and may be purchased through the casino’s in-house Bakery-To-Go.

For Lunch Buffet, the restaurant serves a combination of cuisines and includes a carving station, Asian choices and a salad bar. Also, the buffet offers a wide variety of homemade desserts including sugar free selections. As an entertainment destination, Diamond Jo Casino has free Live Music on stage at the Big Wheel Bar Fridays and Saturdays, with oldies, country and classic rock. The entertainment line-up showcases many different bands from the Midwest region. Bands are listed on the website, http://www.diamondjo.com. In addition, national and regional bands, comedians and celebrities perform in the Diamond Jo Event Center monthly. The Event Center can provide seating up to 350 guests. “We are a full-service entertainment facility,” Pang emphasized. Pang says the Diamond Jo Event Center has become a very popular banquet and meeting facility. Weddings are hosted in the summer, with holiday parties and business meetings in the winter. Outdoor entertainment starts in June with free concerts, Jammin’ On I-35 summer concert series. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and enjoy the night. The summer concert series started with around 700 people at the first event. Now the crowds have grown to more than 2,500 people at each event. Diamond Jo Casino has gambling choices from over 1000 slot machines, ranging from penny to high-limit machines. The casino offers high-action table games and live poker in an exclusive poker room. The Diamond Club, the casino’s player’s club, is free and easy to join and provides coupons and exclusive offers for members. Pang said Diamond Jo opened in 2006 and in the intervening eight years has become very successful, noted as an entertainment center with a restaurant and buffet well worth the drive!

Patrick Palmer, owner and operator of The Computer Guy in Hampton, would like to thank his customers all over North Iowa for naming his business Readers’ Choice for four out of the last six years. Palmer has been in business since 1996 and has been full time since 2006. He is based out of his home in Hampton, Iowa. For 2014, Palmer will be moving some customers to a new service, called Managed Care. Managed Care will be an automated subscription service, where a program is installed on their computer. A computer reporting errors, viruses, or needing updates sends a message to Palmer’s control computer and he gets the issue fixed. The charge is reasonable and the benefits are great for both Palmer and the customer. Many computer companies nationwide are going to some sort of Managed Services. If Palmer can cut down on what he calls “a bit of windshield time,“ it saves him money and so saves the customer money.
