INTRODUCTION This portfolio contains architecture design works from Gejin Zhu. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute SoA Bachelor of Architecture
Columbia University GSAPP Master of Science in Advanced Architecture Design
My thirteen semesters of architecture design studies in RPI and GSAPP exploit between architecture methodology, spatial framework, and spiritual conditions, that exist between the historically and the contemporarily, the perceived environment and the imaginative space, the ideal visions and material realities.

Multi-Gravity Moment Diagram
Our team studied virtual architecture which is based on reality physics but contradictory to it at the same time. This project provides multi-gravity virtual space and considers the possibility that if gravity can be controlled, how will people navigate and experience. In the game, the player starts with a first person camera, and can switch to a third person isometric view. There are three ways of navigation, walking on the solid roads, skiing on the smooth surface, and riding a whale in the water. By stepping on architectural elements- pink steps, the activities of whales, tides, cats are triggered, which provides the player with a possibility of associating with the virtual space. 02 The Erratic
Downtown Albany Performance Center Published by RPI SoA’s official website and RPI official Instagram account Integrated Design Schematic Studio Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Instructor: Hseng Tai Lintner Site: 2 Columbia St, Albany, NY, 12207 The art performing center is not only considered as a stage for performers but also an art piece that shows cultural identity of the city, thus the center can be argued as a “business card“. Located in the downtown Albany, this site is surrounded by transportational hubs, green areas, and urban business spaces, thus my designing concept is not only fulfilling the functionality of an art performing center but also making the building as a piece of artwork. This project contains three floors, and the major program elements include theater, gallery, stores, art studio, cafe, and utility spaces. With the erratic volume and extensive decorative metal application, this performance center is designed to assembly the citizens and encourage human participation in various activities.

Video Game Deisgn Virtual Architecture Columbia University Instructor: Nitzan Bartov Platform: Unreal Engine Team: Gejin Zhu, Bingyu Xia, Yining Lai
Anxiety Age is imaged with a physical maze of corridors that fully immerse viewers. By organizing random sequences and infinite scenes, this project provide distinct experiences to individuals with broached themes of isolation, disassociation, transmission, interconnectedness, etc. Tutorial Link: https://youtu.be/dUfkVU9k9HA

Inspiration Diagram - Teleportation Between Maze
This project is an installment of architecture, acoustic and visual art, that conjures the bombardment of emotion, secrecy, and information. It aims at arousing public emotional resonance of negative feelings, like anxiety, fear and pressure. To illuminate human’s anxiety that arises from conflicted desires, the character is trapped in an infinite corridor with a series of scenes when being in highly approach motivated states.

04 Informative Weave
Malia Mills Fashion Design Studio Published by RPI SoA’s official website Design Studio in CASE Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Instructor: Daniel Rosenberg Site: Industry City, Brooklyn, NY 11232 Team: Gejin Zhu, Anthony Ferraiolo According to recent studies regarding current working spaces, with the emergence of digital work tools, current working spaces have isolated workers from each other and from understanding their own role. This project is intended to provide an architectural system of physical and tangible organization that informs users of their relation to the overall system within a particular fashion design studio environment. We created a fabric informative system that weaves individuals together, which also connects and informs users of their and other’s state of progress on a task. The working flow in this studio is very tight and intense. Thus our main design concept to manage the interior space in Malia Mills is to connect and inform the workers of their and other’s state of progress on a task. With an informative fabric screen, businesses are moving beyond rigid assembly lines toward the idea of organic teams that partner humans with advanced AI systems.
