"GIRLY PASTELS ARE GIVEN A MODERN EDGE WHEN SMEARED ON AS CREAMS OR AIRBRUSHED AS PRETTY GRAFFITI. THE TEXTURES AND COLOURS OF FOOD LIKE SWEET CREAMS, POWDERS AND FONDANTS ALSO DISRUPTS THE STEREOTYPICAL GIRLY LOOK."

This beauty trend sees bold, childlike make-‐up and simple, girly pulled-‐back hairstyles take centre stage PreCy fondant pastels form the key colour paleCe. Think ice cream or macaroon-‐inspired shades: marshmallow pink, duck egg blue, lemon sorbet and mint green The complexion is smooth and untainted – boldly coloured features are important, standing out from a natural, maC skin tone PainJng is a key method of applicaJon for this look as seen on both hair and make-‐up. An airbrush technique is used to achieve long-‐reaching, block colour while streaks of pastel paint are liberally smeared over the hair for a doll-‐like appearance For hair, it’s all about a simple up-‐do. This look is playful with a hint of childlike frivolity and designers made way for it with slicked back, half-‐up half-‐down, muss-‐free tresses Look to tumblr sites such as myliCleponyhair.tumblr.com for inspiraJon This trend was best realised at Meadham Kirchhoff, Vanessa Bruno and Amaya Arzuaga

Another way to use these colours is the : Chill Wave brings a new genre of laidback retro for high-‐summer casualwear -‐ a sexy shoulder shrug, with a fresh but faded aestheJc. This new surf pop movement is heavily influenced by both the shores of retro California and the desert motels of the early 1960s. ArJsts such as Best Coast have a sound harking back to veteran surf bands like The Beach Boys, while visually disrupJng this nostalgia through contemporary colour overlays. Light and colour trigger nostalgic memories and the grainy quality of classic film stock inspires tacJle surfaces and vintage treatments. • The colours reflect photographic prinJng techniques -‐ Jnted or washed. Chalky chilled pastels in cool tones of plaJnum, pale mint, and sky with buCermilk & sandy pink answer a nostalgic yearning for the scorched earth colours of an arid Californian summer.
The fluoro trend sees a return to the colours we saw in the late 1980s. Out of a recession comes opSmism and creaSvity and that’s exactly what these colours do Katy Perry publicly debuted her new purple-‐toned pink hair in early August, but had to go through quite a lengthy process to get the colour she wanted, changing from her signature raven black to warm brown, then golden blonde, plaJnum, and finally, a purple-‐toned pink "I have been dying my hair since 10pm! Good GOD let me get to my desJnaJon tonight! #beenblack #beenblue #beenhotginge #beenblonde #now…" tweeted Perry in late July Sienna Miller and Dianna Agron chose pink a week or so later Agron recently cut her long, honey blonde hair into a shorter style, then coloured it punky neon pink with dark roots, whereas Miller's was more of a subtle, dip-‐dyed peach pink The latest star to choose pink is BriJsh TV and radio presenter Fearne CoCon, who dyed her blonde bob an apricot pink the day before her 30th birthday "May have had my hair dyed light pinkish. One day leU of my 20s. Had to do it. Regress. I am 15 again!" tweeted CoCon on September 2. "Pinkness! Thank you @itslyndell for my birthday hair"
