36,500 COPIES FOR FAMILIES OF PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN FUN, THEPUZZLESBRILLIANTFORKIDS + BRAINTEASERS! CHELT LIT FEST! Gloucestershire FREE INSIDE: WHAT’S ON WHERE GUIDE DR RANJ FINDING OUR INNER SUPERPOWER WITH Primary Times chats to Dr Ranj as he releases his fourth children’s book - an empowering story about seeing the best in others and yourself. You’ve brought out some wonderful books for children over the years. What’s your inspiration for creating these titles? And why do you direct your aמּention towards a younger audience? My inspiration is imagination. Giving a child the opportunity to get lost in the author’s imagination, and inspiring their own imagination, is such a wonderful thing. Books felt like a liמּle bit of magic to me when I was growing up. If those books also inspire children to then dream and become who they want to we just don’t always realise this. I am inspired by the children I meet every day and I wanted to find a way of celebrating that through literature in the hope youngsters realise just how important they are. A Superpower Like Mine seeks to inspire, but also puts a focus on diversity in all its different shapes and forms. Any child can pick up this book and see a bit of themselves, and hopefully feel a liמּle bit more special. A diverse population should be celebrated because then we can find out what makes us unique and therefore what our own personal superpowers are. Do you know anyone in your own life that has a superpower? Perhaps you gained inspiration from these people in particular? My patients are my superheroes. The strength and resilience that they show, especially when some of them are so poorly, is really inspiring. The start of the academic year is a heart-in-mouth moment for any parent sending their child to school for the first time, as their little ones take their first ever steps away from the family, even for just those few hours a day. But, rest-assured, they are in good hands, and will almost certainly thrive under the watchful eyes of Gloucestershire’s teachers and schools.

his year’s bumper family programme at Cheltenham Literature Festival invites children on a literary adventure. Comedy legend Lenny Henry, writer Michael Rosen and ‘Percy the Park Keeper’s Nick Butterworth also appear, as do BBC Radio 1 Breakfast host Greg James, with co-writer Chris Smith

If those books also inspire children to then dream and become who they want to be or do beמּer, then that’s amazing.

If you had to decide, what is your greatest superpower? This is a tough one! Having so many different jobs and roles means that I have to be super organised. So, I guess being organised and efficient would have to be my superpower!

A Superpower Like Mine seeks to inspire, but also puts a focus on diversity in all its different shapes and forms. Any child can pick up this book and see a bit of themselves, and hopefully feel a liמּle bit more special.

This was very deliberate. Children are not born with views that make them look at people differently, it is society that does this. I hope my characters help children, and even some adults, understand that. I also want any child to be able to see themselves in this book, which is why we showcase such a range of different characters.

Prebooking to visit the arbo retum is essential between 1 October and 13 November.

You also touch on diversity and disability throughout the book without making it out to be a restriction. Was this deliberate? Is it important for children to see their lives without restrictions from disability?

Westonbirt provides an amaz ing autumn outdoors setting for a fun family day out!

Do you know anyone in your own life that has a superpower? Perhaps you gained inspiration from these people in particular? My patients are my superheroes. The strength and resilience that they show, especially when some of them are so poorly, is really inspiring. They remind me to look for the positives in life, even when you are in the most difficult of situations. They are also the reason I never take any moment or opportunity for granted. We have to make the most of right now while we can!

A Superpower Like Mine sweetly depicts how everyone has a lot of special superpowers inside of them. What was your inspiration for this? Every child has their own superpowers. In fact, every single person has their own superpowers,
