Color is the purest weapon in the war of defending art for more than “art for art’s sake”. There’s an emotional (therefore psychological) quality that comes when one interprets and internalizes colors. These interpretations can effect the way society sees life, more importantly it can effect our interpretation of reality. In this trend report, we will be analyzing the complexity of four color stories: Brights, Jewels, Earth tones, and pastels. All four stories highlight our complex and unexpected present time. The Brights are devoted to the modern animated business woman, it flourishes from the trend of empowered women speaking up with their colorful voices. The Jewels stems from old defective technology, its about mixing the depth of the jewel tones with the surface of technology. The Earth tones understands that society is going through the process of internal and external acceptance, therefore this story emits a sense of peace and comfort and it plays an homage to many skin tones. Just because it is the last story doesn’t mean its not the loudest. Ironically, pastels have gone rogue, they are vibrating with energy because just like the youth, they want to be heard.

Animated woman Animated Woman is about women being noticed paving through uncharted territories such as the animated world. A powerful woman used to wear black. It was seen as intimidating, however times have changed, and women no longer want to blend into the male dominated crowd. They’ve noticed that having a voice and being unique can take you farther than something. Individuality is key in the creative industry. Being playful and bright are now considered attributes. It is no longer seen as being naïve, nor childish. If anything it is perceived as witty and knowledgeable.

Digital Gems We are asking for a pause on progress, and yet we yearn to progress. This story highlights the convoluted emotions that emerge when technology seems to be flawless. Society is looking back to times where computers spazzed and glitched, they were imperfect like us therefore we felt empathy. Presently, technology is making our lives way easier which is why we keep looking forward for innovation, even though deep inside we are cowering. The textiles and the colors simulate 90s and 80s technology in their weakest state.

The story is composed of mostly Earth tones which coincide with skin-tones. It’s all about transcending to one’s natural state. Based on our current social problems this story also provides a way to silently and calmly portray our stand towards accepting others.
