Tiangco was named Best Female Newscaster. KMJS host, Jessica Soho, among the country’s most acclaimed broadcast journalists, was honored as the Best Public Affairs Host for the second time.

Atty. Felipe L. Gozon’s speech at the GMA Christmas Party Following is GMA Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon’s speech at the GMA Christmas Party on December 14 at the Amoranto Stadium.

4

Upcoming teen idols star in Teen Gen

Abel Estanislao

GMA Network presents promising faces in its youth-oriented series, Teen Gen, airing Sundays after Party Pilipinas. Fresh from winning in Protégé, Jeric Gonzales and Thea Tolentino land their first project in Teen Gen as Tiago and Angge, respectively. Nakaka-pressure kaya kailangan naming galingan at patunayan na karapat-dapat kami for the show.” Meanwhile, Thea expresses her gratitude as she embarks on her first project. “Sobrang happy ko po. God has been so good to me and I will give all my best sa Teen Gen.”

Direk Mark’s T.G.I.S. experience “18 years ago, I was given the opportunity to create a youth oriented show for Saturday afternoons which had a non-existent audience market. With the courage of ignorance, we broke the norms of Philippine TV by doing a light drama-comedy, which was unheard of in the traditional soap dominated 1990s. We got an inspiration from the fast rising MTV channel in terms of visual treatment and fashion styles.

Teen Gen also brings back the 90s kilig tandem of Bobby Andrews and Angelu de Leon as they once again breathe life to the characters of Wacks and Peachy from the phenomenal T.G.I.S. series. Completing the cast are Juancho Trivino (as Lucho), Dianne Hernandez (as Lyca), Abel Estanislao (as JV), Gianna Revilla (as Madison), Seth Isay (as Itos), Sunyee Maluche (as Drew), Gab de Leon (as Jeff) and Arkin Magalona (as Mackenzie). Mark Reyes, the man behind T.G.I.S., directs the series with Kit VillanuevaLangit as creative consultant/ headwriter.

Our 1st season was shaky. T.G.I.S. was branded too “bourgeois” or too upper class for the masa market. But come the 2nd season, it skyrocketed to the TV phenomenon that it was, prompting the rival network to copy our format after a year. Now, with much excitement and bravado from experience, the original director and writer bring back T.G.I.S. as TEEN GEN. Expect a new generation of young stars and T.G.I.S. alumni Bobby and Angelu to bring back youthful family entertainment for both young and not so young who are now parents to teenagers.”

GMA Network embraces transmedia as it hosted its first digital trade launch on November 28 in Makati City. Spearheaded by the Network’s marketing subsidiary GMA Marketing and Productions, Inc. (GMPI), the event incorporated several digital elements in presenting new advertising platforms, allowing guests to experience various Kapuso programs “the digital way.” From the paper-less registration to the augmented reality wall that greeted attendees upon entrance, the Kapuso event showed clear indications that GMA is fully adopting new technology. “We recognize that transmedia is key in today’s media industry. The focus has shifted from simply attracting more viewers to actually engaging them to play a more active role in many aspects of programming,” said GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

of 2013, including its coverage of the forthcoming election period. Dubbed “Eleksyon 2013,” the coverage is set to be the biggest, widest and most comprehensive election coverage on TV. “Digital technology has changed the way viewers consume media,” said GMPI President and COO Lizelle G. Maralag.

However, despite the changes in the way viewers behave, GMA maintains that content still is and will always be the primary driver when it comes to viewership. “Keeping this in mind, GMA Network will continue to provide quality programs that will cater to the changing needs and preferences of viewers,” said Gozon. GMA’s top management led by Gozon, GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr., GMA EVP and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, and Maralag, along with the Network’s pool of stars and news and public affairs personalities graced the trade launch.

“This 2013, we are all about charting new grounds as we introduce new and innovative ways to deliver the desired results of our advertisers, from the digital to classical media platforms,” she added. GMA introduced mobile applications that allow users to scan actual items,

Jake Vargas and German Moreno

“Hence, as we continue to strive in keeping our status of being the country’s nationwide ratings leader and the preferred network of our valued partners in the trade, we are also faced with the challenge of becoming more relevant in today’s fast-changing media landscape,” Gozon added. At the event, several interactive booths were put up to further showcase GMA’s offerings for the first quarter

GMA International’s Cheri Domingo on driving promotions for GMA’s International channels GMA International’s head of programming, Cheri Domingo, was among the personalities featured in Content Asia’s first issue of the Creative Top 20. The Creative Top 20, according to Content Asia, looks at the people making, shaping and driving channel creative and promotions. It was published in time for Content Asia’s Summit held on December 3 to 4, and Promax/BDA Asia held on December 5 to 6. Following are thoughts of Cheri on the direction of creative promotions, based on her Q&A with Content Asia:

On GMA International’s biggest project in 2012: Cheri Domingo (CD): The celebratory campaign on GMA Pinoy TV’s seven years of bringing global Filipinos closer to home.

On deciding what to promote in any given week/month: CD: On a monthly basis, the programming team identifies priority programmes, artists, including special holidays for promotions, and then works closely with the creative pool for the best execution. We make sure the campaigns cut across all platforms and are supportive of our marketing strategies.

On average, three gaps for a 30minute show and five to six gaps for a 60-minute programme.

On the biggest trend in promo breaks: CD: Our team believes the biggest trend is integrating on-air efforts with social media marketing efforts. We need to create impact across different touch points aside from in-channel promos, especially in this age of social media.

On using social media as a promo vehicle: CD: We started to recognise the value of social media into our second year. Currently, we employ heavy promo efforts online and there is special focus on social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter). We provide up-to-the-minute programming and artists’ updates. We also do interactive promotions, such as the ‘YouScoop promo for Manny Pacquiao’s last boxing match’, which won first place in Digital Marketing Tactics in this year’s Excellence in Multi-Cultural Marketing Awards or EMMA, an annual event by the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications (NAMIC) in the US.

GMA Network:

Planting seeds of volunteerism by: Tina H. Gallardo GMA G.I.V.E.S.

GMA Network has always encouraged its employees to give back to the society. To help make this possible, the Company provides various opportunities for volunteerism, both in and out of the workplace. On November 24, GMA G.I.V.E.S. volunteers together with personnel from the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), planted 1,500 seedlings along the stretch of Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) in Mabalacat, Pampanga. Michelle Estrada

The activity was part of BCDA’s Greening SCTEX program in partnership with GMA’s environmental awareness and conservation program called Kapuso ng Kalikasan. Greening SCTEX aims to plant 50,000 trees along the expressway in 5 years. On December 1, the Network’s employee-volunteers and the GMA Kapuso Foundation, through its Give-A-Gift project, served food and distributed gifts to 408 children of incarcerated women at the National Institute of Correctional in Mandaluyong. According to GMA AVP for Corporate Affairs Teresa Pacis, “With GMA G.I.V.E.S., employees are given a chance to do specific activities that have impact. Through the tree planting activity and the prison visit, for example, we contribute to the preservation of our environment and help bring the joy of Christmas to women-inmates and the kids.”

Tina H. Gallardo

Giving back is indeed the common driving force among GMA G.I.V.E.S. volunteers.

“I would like to influence my fellow Kapuso to give importance to our environment and to make a stand to stop illegal logging. I know in my own way I can make a difference,” said Michelle Estrada, an active GMA G.I.V.E.S. volunteer. Among the volunteers who joined the tree planting activity and the prison visit were a handful of first-timers. Suzette Bucao, who had wanted to volunteer for GMA G.I.V.E.S., was glad to finally plant her first tree. “I support GMA G.I.V.E.S. goal to provide assistance to those in need. I believe that great things come in small beginnings and if I share whatever I have, no matter how small and simple it is, it will help create a big effect to those in need and the environment, too. Volunteerism is important in the workplace because there are a lot of great things that can be done with joint efforts and with open hearts,” Bucao said.
