Beauty queens Miss World Philippines 2017 Laura Lehmann and Miss Multinational 2018 Sophia Senoron and model Michelle Dee are looking forward to start a new journey as they signed their exclusive contracts with GMA Artist Center last July 2. Present during the contract-signing were GMA Entertainment Group Senior Vice President Lilybeth G. Rasonable; GMA Senior Assistant Vice President for Alternative Productions Gigi SantiagoLara; and talent manager Arnold Vegafria. Despite having little experience in the showbiz industry, the three new Kapuso artists expressed how grateful they are to sign up with GMA. “I think every little girl wants to be a star one day, and to think that I get to have the chance to be a star. I’m really thankful. Overwhelming pero super excited talaga,” Sophia said. Laura, in turn, shared, “Ito talaga iyong first subok ko sa acting world, so it’s nice to know that I have a family who really accepted me and warmly welcomed me. I’m very excited and I want to see if kaya

ko ito. I’m looking forward to everything that is coming.” Meanwhile, Michelle said it has always been her dream to enter showbiz just like her mother Melanie Marquez. “I’ve been really convincing my manager Tito Arnold. I really want to try it out and to be a part of GMA. I talked to my mom about it, I really like the feeling here. Just talking about it, two years ago with my parents and my friends, just the idea and just, like, now it’s happening. I’m signing the contract, it’s, like, imagine a little girl and their dreams are coming true. It’s like slowly one step at a time nari-reach ko na where I want to be,” Michelle said. Rasonable is proud to welcome the new talents as part of the Kapuso Network. “Unang-una bagay sila dito dahil magaganda sila. But we’re very, very happy and excited na dito nila pinili, to be with the Kapuso Network and we’re lining up projects for them in the near future. They’ll have guestings in our different shows. They’re undergoing workshops now, so maybe after that pwede na natin silang bigyan ng mas mahahabang roles. But in the meantime, iikot mula sila sa iba’t iba nating programa,” shared Rasonable.

M

MAMA CY

ama Cy is a modern-day Filipina who singlehandedly raised her 12-year-old daughter. She is the Barangay’s “Palaban na Beauty” who can practically do anything from being a fun but sensible DJ to writing, singing, dancing, acting, doing PR work, and managing events. “#BidaBidaAko,” she quipped. Mama Cy said she eliminates all the unnecessary to make space and time for the more important ones. For her, people in this modern world are so engrossed on being liked and loved even if it meant losing themselves. “I learned to avoid the complexities of life.” She believes that we all have a blessing of our own. “So I don’t compare.” Mama Cy also acknowledges the truth that she is empowered not just by her own strength but through God’s grace.

JANNA CHU CHU J

anna Chu Chu is the resident “Showbiz Insider” who basically breathes everything that’s happening inside the industry. He was exposed to show business at the age of 14 when he became a TV dancer for the late Kuya Germs. “I was so happy dahil alam kong mapapalapit ako sa mga celebrities,” he said. Apart from being a Barangay LS DJ, he is also a DZBB anchor and an entertainment writer for online and tabloids.

Janna Chu Chu, meanwhile, distinguishes himself by being passionate in what he does best – showbiz, writing, and music. “Kahit ang dami kong ginagawa, lahat kinakaya ko pa rin. Kasi hindi lahat ng tao nagagawa yung gusto nilang gawin.”

CHIKO TITO D

ubbed as “Ang Chika Master”, Chiko Tito is a husband and a father who refers to himself as a straight male trapped inside a gay personality. “I’m chatty and sociable with a cheerful heart na kaya kong makipagchikahan about anything trending sa Barangay,” he said. “Our society is forever changing, so I do not really conform with what is standard according to society,” said Chiko Tito who doesn’t worry much about what others might say despite his interesting background. “I always explain to my kids na kapag sa radyo, ganito si daddy. Pero kapag sa bahay, si daddy ay si daddy.”

PAPA MARKY

he Life Coach, Papa Marky, uses his unique opportunity to help people in emergency situations regardless of who they are or what they believe in. “I value the essence of their stories and I respect their individuality,” he said. Living up to his moniker, Papa Marky said he doesn’t dictate people on what they should do about their problems. “Most of the time, I listen and find the right timing kung kailan ako magsasabi sa’yo ng totoo,” he said. For him, sometimes the answer can be found when the listeners begin to reflect on their own lives because most people in trouble are cloaked by negativity. He said his job is to shed new light on difficult situations. Papa Marky classified two kinds of people: those who are able to speak up and live to regret it and those who keep their mouths shut and regret not saying anything.

Kapuso Abroad Celebrate Philippine Independence Day with GMA Pinoy TV

Dingdong in a dance showdown with some members of the audience

GMA Pinoy TV remained true to its mission of bringing Filipinos abroad closer to home in a series of successful 120th Philippine Independence Day celebrations (PIDC) all over the world this June. Kapuso actress Carla Abellana kicked off her birthday month in the US as she flew to San Diego, California for the “Mabuhay Festival” held at the Kimball Park National City last June 2. Not only was she warmly welcomed during her song numbers, the audience even sang her a Happy Birthday song complete with a cake that was brought on stage. During her stay, Carla visited Sweetwater Union High School where she met National City Vice Mayor Albert Mendivil. The Kapuso star took the opportunity to connect with the community and the youth by giving an inspirational talk about life, success, failures, and love. Simultaneously on June 2, Kapuso stars Kris Bernal and Rocco Nacino provided fun and entertainment at the “Pista sa Nayon: Philippine Independence Day Festival” at the Vallejo Waterfront Park, California. Rocco began the GMA segment with a couple of song numbers, while Kris went all-out with her dance performance.

Kris Bernal and Rocco Nacino during a meet-andgreet with fans and GMA Pinoy TV subscribers

Rocco also had a radio interview with the Filipino-Hawaiian Radio Station KPHI (96.7 FM/1130 AM) which aired on the Midday Radio Show with Allan Alvarez. Kris, on the other hand, went to Los Angeles to visit her family and paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Consulate where she met with Deputy Consul General Ambrosio Brian Enciso III. Last June 16, All-Star Videoke duo Solenn Heussaff and Betong Sumaya bannered the “Pinoy Fiesta and Tradeshow sa Toronto”, the biggest indoor Filipino fiesta in Ontario organized by the Philippine Canadian Charitable Foundation (PCCF). The event had a parade, various booths of sponsors, and beauty pageants wherein Solenn and Betong awarded the winners. Later that night, Betong engaged the audience with comedic acts, while Solenn sizzled in her sexy song numbers. Capping off the eventful series was Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes who headlined the “Pagdiriwang 2018” last June 24 in Singapore. The celebration, which was held at the Kallang Theatre, 1 Stadium Walk, was organized by Filipino volunteers and spearheaded by the Philippine Embassy and SingPhil Events. The jam-packed day of activities embodied the vibrancy of Filipino culture with pageants, cultural dances, booth activities, singing contests, parades, and many more.

Dingdong opened the show with a lively Eraserheads medley and danced with his fellow Pinoys. Some members of Race2Share Singapore joined the Kapuso star on stage as he performed his rendition of Aegis’ iconic song ‘Halik’. The crowd went wild when Dingdong was surprised with a standee of his wife, Marian RiveraDantes. After the program, the Kapuso royalty, who is always a crowd favorite, spent time with his kababayans during the meet and greet session. Earlier this May, GMA kicked off the Independence Day celebrations in the Middle East where Kapuso stars Christian Bautista, Solenn Heussaff, Betong Sumaya, Migo Adecer, Divine Tetay, and Dennis Trillo joined back-to-back festivities in Dubai and Jeddah. The successful string of festivities in North America, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific were made possible through the exclusive media sponsorship of GMA Pinoy TV as it continues to provide world class entertainment for the Kapuso abroad.
