GMA launches international channels in more areas in North America and Middle East GMA Network widened its global reach with the launching of its international channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV International thru key channel carriers in North America and the Middle East in the first half of 2012. In February, GMA News TV International was launched in the Middle East via Etisalat, the first channel carrier to offer GMA News TV International in the region. Flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV further strengthened its presence in North America in March via Shaw Cablesystems G.P., reaching Filipino households in select areas of Greater Vancouver including Newton, Fleetwood, Richmond, Cloverdale and North Shore. Shaw is one of the largest cable television providers in Canada. Also in March and still in Canada, GMA News TV International was launched in Canada via MTS Allstream, the leading full-service communications provider in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Meanwhile, GMA Pinoy TV can now be seen in the communities of Whitehorse, Yukon, Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT), Fort Nelson, and British

Columbia (BC) via Northern Canada’s communications and entertainment leader Northwestel. With these launches, GMA Pinoy TV subscribers now total 313,000 as of May, or over two million viewers worldwide. GMA Life TV – GMA Network’s second international channel known for its lifestyle programs with Pinoy flavor - is now seen via Bell TV in Canada. The channel was included in Bell TV’s lineup just last June 21 and is expected to increase its worldwide viewership of one million or 118,000 subscribers.

GMA Vice President for International Joseph T. RATINGS UPDATE

GMA Network leads nationwide TV ratings in H1 2012 GMA Network remained the nationwide leader in TV ratings for the first half of 2012 based on data from the most trusted ratings provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. From January to June 2012, GMA beat ABS-CBN and TV5 in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) with an average total day (6AM to 12MN) household audience share of 35.5 percent, five percentage points higher than ABS-CBN’s 30.5 and 20.9 percentage points higher than TV5’s 14.6. Relative to the first semester of 2011, GMA was the only TV station that posted gains in total day household

audience shares, improving by 2.4 percent. ABS-CBN and TV5 dropped 1.6 points and 0.6 point, respectively.

TV101

GMA’s lead in nationwide audience shares was mainly driven by its strong performance in the afternoon block (12NN to 6PM), where it posted an average of 41.4 percent in household audience share versus ABS’ 24 percent and TV5’s 14.6 percent.

RATINGS

GMA subscribes to the Nielsen TV Audience Measurement along with 21 companies including TV5, Faulkner Media, CBN Asia, 15 advertising agencies and three regional clients. On the other hand, ABS-CBN is the only local major TV network

reportedly subscribing to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS. The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement has a sample size of 1,190 homes in Mega Manila versus Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Nielsen also has a nationwide sample size of 2,000 homes compared to the lower sample size of 1,370 utilized by Kantar Media.

GMA’s CSR at the CSR Expo 2012 At the recently-concluded CSR Expo, GMA Network’s corporate responsibility programs were among the case studies of how media practices CSR. GMA Network honors comedy king Dolphy GMA-7 paid tribute to the late comedy king Dolphy through a necrological service on July 14 at the Heritage Park in Taguig. The Network presented the Quizon Family with a posthumous plaque recognizing Dolphy’s “unrivaled wholesome entertainment [as a] consummate artist both in comedy and drama” and his “genuine concern for co-workers.” Actor-director Eric Quizon accepted the plaque in behalf of his family, and expressed their appreciation for the Kapuso Network. He also shared how his father almost became a Kapuso, remembering the time when GMA presented Dolphy with an offer to do a show. Although the plan never really materialized, Quizon said that his family will always be grateful to GMA for that “unforgettable gesture.”

Dance choreographer Geleen Eugenio, on the other hand, shared how Dolphy played a big role in her successful career. Among those who rendered song numbers during the memorial service for the King of Comedy were Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Frencheska Farr and Mark Bautista. Kapuso stars who were also seen at the service included Richard Gutierrez, Geoff Eigenmann, TJ Trinidad, Bearwin Meily, Chariz Solomon and German Moreno. Carla Abellana hosted the tribute, while Fr. Eric Santos officiated the mass. Network officers including Consultant for Radio Operations and President for RGMA Network, Inc. Mike C. Enriquez, OIC for Entertainment Lilybeth G.

Kapuso talents, who once had the opportunity to work with and get to know Dolphy, also shared their fondest memories of the comedy icon. Veteran actress Nova Villa and actress-turned-politician Maybelline dela Cruz tearfully recalled their experiences while working with him on the set of their sitcom for 15 years.

Rasonable, VP for Entertainment Marivin T. Arayata, AVPs Redgie A. Magno (ETV), Janine P. Nacar (Talk, Game and Reality), Angel J. Cruz (Corporate Communications) and Simoun S. Ferrer (TDMD) also attended the affair. Atty. Gozon’s wife, Mrs. Teresita Gozon, was also present.

Following are the remarks of Atty. Felipe L. Gozon at the wake of Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr. (Dolphy) on July 14, 2012 at the Heritage Park in Taguig. Dolphy’s legacy to the showbiz industry and the Filipino people in general is like no other. He lived a full life as an entertainer, who represented the Pinoy everyman who made us laugh and cry, who gave us hope, and who taught us how to live and love.

Actor-director Eric Quizon accepts the plaque from the Kapuso Network.

Sa totoo lang, there may never be another Dolphy. In fact, for GMA Network which has never had Dolphy as an artist, we embrace him as an authentic entertainment icon who, in the mold of heroes, belong to all people. He has joined the ranks of exemplary Filipinos like Ninoy whose life and works far transcend their time. In life as in death, Dolphy continues to touch the hearts of people. And I believe that future generations of Filipinos will know of one Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr. who made a difference in many lives.

GMA SVP for N&PA honored with IABC CEO Excel Award GMA Network Senior Vice President for News and Public Affairs Marissa L. Flores is this year’s awardee in the Media, Advertising, PR, Entertainment, Special Events and Sports category of the CEO EXCEL (Communication Excellence in Organization) Awards given by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines.

for broadcast journalism. Under Flores’ watch, GMA News and Public Affairs has lived up to its promise – “Walang kinikilingan. Walang pinoprotektahan. Walang kasinungalingan. Serbisyong Totoo lamang.”

She rose from the ranks in GMA Network – from production assistant to producer, and the very first PM or Program Manager of the network to rise to the high position she holds today. She maybe low-key but she is well-respected and loved by her superiors and subordinates alike. “I have always believed in Marissa’s talent and her being a recipient of IABC’s CEO Excel Award comes as no surprise. I am very happy and proud that she is once again reaping the harvest of her remarkable hard work and dedication to GMA News and Public Affairs,” said GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

Previous winners from GMA Network are Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon (2006), former GMA Marketing and Productions, Inc. President and COO Manuel P. Quiogue (2008), and GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP and COO Mel Tiangco (2010).

Marissa L. Flores’ Acceptance Speech at the 2012 CEO Excel Awards The following is Marissa L. Flores speech at the 2012 CEO Excel Awards held on July 12 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Makati. Thank you, IABC. The award is not mine alone but belongs to the entire News and Public Affairs organization, which I proudly represent. When I joined GMA in the late 80s, it became immediately obvious to me that the News department was short of equipment and resources. Our cameras and news service vehicles were old and would conk out from time to time. Yet, for all that it lacked, the organization was well-respected for its fair and balanced reporting. There was no shortage of dedication from its people. I was quickly infected with the drive to do important and exciting work. I became part of the team that built the Public Affairs group of GMA News and Public Affairs. I couldn’t be happier to belong. Fast-forward to today. We’ve come a long way. GMA is the first Philippine network to broadcast live at the base camp of Mount Everest in 2006. GMA News and Public Affairs is the only PHILIPPINE news organization with not just one but two George Foster Peabody awards - said to be broadcasting’s equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize. In February 2011, we launched a news channel -- GMA News TV - the youngest VHF channel, yet already the leader in this category. Of course it helped that we eventually got the resources we needed and more. However, whether in the 80s or today - some things remain - we have the most creative, dynamic and passionate people in the industry. And fairness and balanced reporting - which I saw very early on, have been ingrained in our culture. That I lead this formidable team is a great blessing and an immense responsibility. And I always pray for the wisdom to continue to lead this team to do what’s right. More than 20 years into the business, as Oprah would say, there are things I know for sure:

I know for sure that nothing beats doing the right thing even when no one is looking. I know for sure that in an industry used to pizzazz and image-building, substance is what truly matters. I have learned that it’s easy to form conclusions but there is really more than one side to an issue. Even the most maligned and unpopular person needs to be heard. I know for sure that leaders should not only speak but listen - and in this age of social media where anyone and everyone can speak - we must think before we speak; Think Before You Click as we would say. I know for sure that we are who we are, not only because of ourselves but also because of other people. Lastly, I know for sure that real strength comes from within. We have to listen to that inner voice, and speak to the One greater than us. I’d like to thank my GMA News and Public Affairs family for taking this exciting journey with me. And I’d like to say a special thank you to my family who are my earliest teachers in communication and my source of inspiration.

GMA Chairman and CEO’s Message at the Q2 Employees’ General Assembly The following is the speech delivered by Atty. Felipe L. Gozon at the Q2 General Assembly held on July 20 at GMA Network’s Studio 7. The General Assembly is a quarterly gathering of GMA officers, led by top management, and employees.

GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon

nagsilbi sa ating kumpanya mula five years hanggang 25 years.

Malaki ang contribution ng ating malalakas na morning at Dedicated Kapuso employees for the last 25 years: (L-R) Leandro Seva, Rogelito Dela Cruz, Maximino Matias, Jr. and Carlos Jamito.

Ngayong July 19 pa lamang ay P1.116 billion na ang ating gross TV sales as compared to only P1.34 billion gross TV sales last year.

7% kaysa noong nakaraang taon. Congratulations, Marissa, at welcome to the club of exemplary executives!
