FLG’s message at the

2012 Kapuso Family Day Following is the message that GMA Chairman & CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon delivered during the Family Day on June 16, 2012 at the Enchanted Kingdom.

2. nagbawas iyong malalaking multinational advertisers gaya ng Unilever, P&G, etc. ng kanilang ad spend noong 2nd half of 2011;

3. bumagsak ng bahagya ang ating ratings, lalo na sa prime time, noong 2nd half of 2011;

1. nawala yung P2 billion political ads natin noong 2010, an election year;

We can proudly say that, through our GMA Kapuso Foundation, we have not only provided our poor school children with school houses, books and educational materials they need but we can also say that we have done our part in helping mold tomorrow’s leaders in broadcast media and ensured that our muchrevered tradition of integrity and credibility in broadcasting is kept alive. Mga Kapuso, indeed we have come a long way – kung dati ay daan-daang milyon lamang ang pinag-uusapan natin, at lagi tayong “a distant second” sa industriya, ngayon, nasa bilyon na ang usapan. To be fair to MVP, maski hindi natin hinihingi ay nagpadala siya ng text tungkol sa napabalitang merger ng GMA7 at TV5 and I quote: “You know, all I said was – please support TV5 here in the States. And by the way, please support GMA7 too (since Dish carries GMA). That was all. No mention of merger, investment, combination. Certainly no mention of a November deadline, or any deadline at all. Sure, some people speculated and all I said

was I can now say we’re under discussion but nothing finalized at this time.” Kung mayroon mang mahalagang update tungkol sa isyung ito ay makaaasa kayong gagawa tayo ng proper announcement at the proper time bilang bahagi ng ating commitment to conduct business with transparency. For now, I encourage all of you to pull all stops so that our company remains the number one broadcast station in the country. After all, what they are also buying are our assets, and you, our people, are our best assets. Gaya ng sinabi sa isang kanta, if you can make it in GMA7, you can make it anywhere!

One more reason why GMA is a great place to work… GMA’s top management is committed to transparency in doing business. Thus, no less than Chairman & CEO Atty Felipe L. Gozon reads and responds to comments/concerns/ suggestions aired by Kapuso employees and talents through the Suggestion Box.

RATINGS UPDATE

GMA Network marks another nationwide TV ratings win in May Leading broadcast company GMA Network scored another nationwide TV ratings win in May, according to data from the widely recognized ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. Based on May 1 to 31 data (May 27 to 31 overnight data), GMA posted an average household audience share of 35.1 percent in National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), ahead of ABS-CBN’s 30.2 percent and TV5’s 14.5 percent. Using an assumption of five viewers per household, GMA’s margins translated to almost 900,000 viewers over ABSCBN and 3.7 million viewers over TV5 nationwide. Nielsen’s comparative monthly nationwide ratings performance of the country’s three major TV channels in the first five months the year likewise showed GMA leading all TV stations. GMA has led ABS-CBN from January to May 31 by almost six percent in household audience share, while GMA led TV5 by 21 percent. In Total Urban Luzon, which makes up 77% of total urban television households nationwide, GMA hit 39 percent in audience share or a 13.1percent difference against ABS-CBN’s 25.9, and a 24.9-point lead over TV5’s 14.1 in May. The gaps translate to more than 1.8 million more viewers for GMA over ABS-CBN and 3.5 million more viewers over TV5 in the said area.

percent, more than 15 percent higher than ABS-CBN’s 24.6, and 25.7 percent above TV5’s 14.5 percent. The gaps translate to almost 1.8 million more viewers over ABS-CBN and 2.9 million more viewers over TV5. Mega Manila is an area strategically important to advertisers as it comprises the bulk of total urban television households at 59.5%. Meanwhile, GMA strengthened its programming with a string of launches on primetime and daytime in May. GMA’s primetime offering, Luna Blanca, out rated ABS-CBN’s counterpart program Princess and I in Mega Manila during its debut last May 21, while the early morning cooking show Cooking with the Stars has been a constant nationwide ratings winner over ABS-CBN’s Kris TV since its premiere on May 28. Pinoy Adventures, GMA’s primetime adventure-travel show every Sunday, has been winning in the strategic areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila over ABS-CBN’s Sarah G. Live since its premiere airing on May 13. GMA’s My Chubby World (Saturday daytime) had another season relaunch last May 12 and has consistently clobbered competing programs across all areas. Relative to TV5, GMA program launches enjoyed high rating differences across all areas and timeblocks. GMA finished the first quarter of 2012 with P388 million in net profits, while ABS-CBN netted only P306 million for the period, a sharp 69% drop from 2011.

In Mega Manila, GMA had an average household audience share of 40.2

NEW PROGRAM

The Philippines’ biggest winner at the 2012 New York Festivals

Father and son rivalry in Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka? GMA offers an intriguing addition to its unbeatable afternoon drama block with “Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka?” The program started airing on June 4 after Hiram na Puso. Geoff Eigenmann, Jennica Garcia and Jackie Rice star in the series which explores how bonds between family members are put to the test in the face of love. Michael de Mesa, Angelika dela Cruz, Bobby Andrews, and Sharmaine Arnaiz together with Bubbles Paraiso, Diego Castro, and Pancho Magno complete the cast. Director Mark Reyes describes the series as “deliciously daring and sinfully addicting.” “It’s very exciting to see real life father and son Michael de Mesa and Geoff Eigenmann face off as rivals in an edgy love triangle with Jackie Rice, as we guarantee everyone an unpredictable show,” shares Reyes. This Kapuso afternoon drama delves on mature topics, and also looks at one’s capacity to bear with life’s challenges and willingness to sacrifice for the sake of his or her loved ones. In the series, sisters Erica (Jackie Rice) and Bianca (Jennica Garcia) live a happy and comfortable life with their parents who have taught them the meaning of “true love.” The simple and unassuming Erica meets the handsome yet arrogant Jake (Geoff Eigenmann) and falls in love with him. But her idea of a perfect love story gets ruined when Jake mysteriously disappears and is never heard from again. As Erica tries to move on with her family by her side, life takes a dark turn when their family meets an accident that kills Erica’s and Bianca’s parents. Things become worse when the girls realize that their parents have been hiding their true financial situation for some time. The sisters are forced to work hard in order to survive. Tension begins to grow between the two sisters,

10

more so when Bianca finds out that she is in danger of losing her sight as a result of the accident. With no one else to turn to, Erica approaches her boss, Jaime (Michael de Mesa), a divorced businessman who pays special attention to her, and asks him to take care of the expenses for Bianca’s operation. Jaime obliges and the sisters reconcile. Jaime soon professes his feelings for Erica, and eventually asks for her hand in marriage. Erica, reminded of the many good things Jaime has done for her and her sister, agrees. As the day of their wedding approaches, Erica’s life turns upside down when Jaime’s children from his first wife, Beatrice (Sharmaine Arnaiz), return – Jaime’s scheming daughter Leslie (Angelika dela Cruz) and son, Joaquin (Geoff Eigenmann), who turns out to be Erica’s former boyfriend Jake. With Erica still having feelings for Jake, how will she reveal the truth to Jaime? What will come out of this unexpected rivalry between Jaime and his son, Jake? What lengths will Leslie take to ruin Erica’s reputation in the eyes of her father and brother? Can anything or anyone still come between Erica and Bianca? The answers will be revealed as the plot of Kasalanan Bang Ibigin Ka? unfolds every weekday afternoon. This production was created by the GMA Drama Group led by GMA Entertainment OIC Lilybeth Rasonable, AVP for Drama Redgie Acuña Magno, Senior Program Manager Cheryl Ching-Sy, Program Manager Hazel Abonita, and executive producer Joy Lumboy-Pili. The show was crafted by creative director Jun Lana, creative head Roy Iglesias, creative consultant Des Garbes-Severino, concept creator Kit Villanueva-Langit, and headwriter Agnes Gagelonia-Uligan. While all major Philippine networks sent entries to the 2012 New York Festivals, the biggest winner was GMA News TV Channel 11. The country’s no. 1 news channel produced two Silver World Medals for its documentary program Front Row. “We are deeply honored to receive two silver medals from the New York Festivals, more awards than any other Philippine network,” said Front Row Program Manager Johnson Tam, upon accepting the awards. “We are humbled and grateful that the siblings we featured in one of the documentaries, Ernie and Eric, out-of-school kids who risked life and limb working in an urban mine for their family’s sustenance, are now back in school after a school principal was moved by their story and offered them a scholarship. We look forward to producing more documentaries that create a call to action, as part of our mission of Serbisyong Totoo,” added Tam. GMA News TV also received two Finalist Certificates for its documentary program Reel Time and a third Finalist Certificate for the docudrama special Pluma: Si Rizal Ang Dakilang Manunulat. Front Row and Reel Time are breaking new ground in Philippine television. Where once local viewers seemed to appreciate only host-driven documentaries, these new documentary shows do not have regular hosts and rarely feature voice-overs. They allow the subjects themselves to tell their own stories. Front Row airs 8:45 pm on Saturday nights while Reel Time airs at 8:45 pm on Sundays. “The New York Festival wins of these programs are not just a triumph for GMA News TV and its documentary filmmakers; it’s a triumph for Philippine mass viewers who have learned not only to appreciate the documentary format, but even turned Front Row and Reel Time into some of the channel’s highest rating programs,” said GMA News TV head Nessa Valdellon.

GMAKF’s UHSK project continues to serve underprivileged students on its 15th year GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF), the socio-civic arm of GMA Network, Inc., continues to support the cause of education as its annual Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan (UHSK) project goes on its 15th year. In anticipation of the opening of the new academic year this June, GMAKF recently distributed backpacks containing school supplies to 45,000 incoming grade one pupils from farflung public elementary schools all over the country. The Foundation made its rounds in selected schools in Metro Manila and in various provinces including Abra, Mountain Province, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Cavite, Romblon, Masbate, Cebu,

Negros Oriental, Davao, Compostela Valley, Iloilo, Capiz, Samar, Zamboanga del Norte, Bukidnon, Cotabato, General Santos City, Surigao del Sur, Tawi Tawi and Jolo. It also visited schools in Iligan and Cagayan de Oro that are still in recovery from the destruction caused by typhoon Sendong. Launched in 1997, the project aims to motivate students from underprivileged communities to embrace education by providing them with the basic necessities for learning. To date, GMAKF has provided complete school supplies sets to 420,012 first graders through the UHSK project. “Simple as it may seem, the distribution of the school supplies means so much

to these children and even to their parents, who can barely afford to send their kids to school,” shares GMAKF Executive Vice President and COO Mel C. Tiangco. “With the lack of school supplies being one of the major reasons behind the high rate of drop out among elementary students, we at GMAKF feel all the more motivated to continue with this project, and bring help and inspiration to more and more children and parents each year.” Over the years, GMAKF continues to generate support from donors and volunteers who share the same objective of motivating children to learn and remain in school.

GMA Kapuso Foundation turns over classrooms in Iligan City GMA Kapuso Foundation turned over seven (7) newly constructed classrooms at the Mandulog Elementary School in Barangay Mandulog, Iligan City on June 15. The classrooms meet the basic requirements of a standard DepED classroom but with the advanced design features of a Kapuso Type classroom. The GMAKF takes pride in its Kapuso classrooms as these are constructed based on the Light Steel Frame Technology to ensure functionality and durability. Three more classrooms will be constructed in the same school. Barangay Mandulog is the same site of the Kapuso Village where GMAKF is currently building of 200 houses for the victims of typhoon Sendong. In addition, a deep well electric water pump with service shed will be turned over to the residents of Sitio Cabaro, Barangay Hinaplanon in Iligan City. The former Mandulog Elementary School is along the river bank of Kapay River which overflowed during the onslaught of typhoon Sendong. Its classrooms and administrative buildings were wiped out, leaving only the Principal’s office which was, nevertheless, damaged, and has become unusable.

GMAKF learned about the plight of Mandulog ES during its relief operations in Brgy. Mandulog. GMAKF initially focused on its Kapuso Village 200-unit housing project for the Sendongaffected families in the area. Later on, GMAKF negotiated with the DepED Main Office to allow the construction of a school within the Kapuso Village. After a series of dialogues, the DepED gave clearance to GMAKF to construct 10 classrooms for Mandulog Elementary School inside the Kapuso Village. Construction work started in mid-April and became in full swing by the month of May. GMAKF’s construction team, composed of skilled workers, army volunteers and Kapuso Village beneficiaries, worked in the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ to ensure that there will be ready classrooms during the school opening in June.
