RATINGS UPDATE

GMA Network keeps lead in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila GMA News TV remains as the country’s number one news channel

GMA Network kept its overall lead in viewer-rich Urban Luzon and Mega Manila in February (February 24 to 28 based on overnight data), according to data from Nielsen TV Audience Measurement. GMA scored an average total day audience share of 35.5 percent in Urban Luzon, which accounts for 76 percent of the total urban TV household population in the entire country, up by 5.7 points over ABS-CBN’s 29.8 percent and by 21.4 points from TV5’s 14.1 percent. Meanwhile, in Mega Manila, GMA garnered a winning average total day audience share of 36.6%, 8.9 points ahead of ABS-CBN’s rating (27.7%) and 21.6 points more than TV5’s (15%). GMA’s Afternoon Prime continued to be the primary ratings driver, not only in Urban Luzon and Mega-Manila, but in NUTAM, as well. It posted a strong average household audience share of 34.8 percent in NUTAM, higher than ABSCBN’s 29.1% by 5.7 points and TV5’s 15.6% by 19.2 points.

In Urban Luzon, GMA Afternoon Prime had a 39.2 percent total day average, up by a solid 14 points from ABS-CBN’s 25.2 percent, and by 24.5 points from TV5’s 14.7 percent. In Mega Manila, the Kapuso Network’s afternoon time block had a 40.4 percent total day household audience share average, leading ABS-CBN’s 23.3 percent by 17.1 points and TV5’s 15.6 percent by 24.8 points. The Network launched two Afternoon Prime dramas in February - Bukod Kang Pinagpala and Unforgettable. The initial episodes of both programs rated higher than their ABS-CBN and TV5 counterparts in NUTAM, Urban Luzon and Mega Manila. GMA likewise outnumbered ABS-CBN in the list of the 30 top-rated programs (excluding specials) in Urban Luzon and Mega Manila with 17 and 18 entries, respectively. The long-running public affairs program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho led all other GMA programs in the list for NUTAM, Urban Luzon and Mega Manila.

Temptation of Wife, Indio, Kapuso Movie Night, Pahiram Ng Sandali, 24 Oras, Bubble Gang, Pepito Manaloto, Eat Bulaga, Imbestigador, Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga, Smile Dong Hae, Yesterday’s Bride, Kap’s Amazing Stories, The Princess’s Man, Watta Job and The Greatest Love. GMA’s average total day audience share in NUTAM dipped 1.4 points to 31.7 percent from January’s 33.1 percent. The Network is confident, however, that it will regain its nationwide lead as it continues to strengthen its programming line-up alongside its constant efforts to strengthen its reach across the country. Meanwhile, GMA News TV (News TV) continues to strengthen its position as the country’s leading news channel, garnering a 4.4 percent average total day audience share in NUTAM in February, leaving behind ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), which only managed 0.1 percent, and AKSYON TV with only 0.2 percent.

Other top-performing Kapuso programs for February are Magpakailanman,

TV RATINGS 101 GMA and TV5 subscribe to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement while ABS-CBN is the lone local major TV network that reportedly subscribes to Kantar Media, formerly known as TNS. In Mega Manila, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement gathers data based on a

sample size of 1,190 homes as compared to Kantar Media’s 770 homes. Meanwhile, Nielsen has a nationwide urban sample size of 2,000 homes, which is statistically higher than Kantar’s sample size of 1,370.

GMA Network reports P13.929 billion gross revenues in 2012

likewise sold over 60 program and movie titles to Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, Kenya, Tanzania and USA. The company saw a seven percent increase in its total operating expenses (OPEX) for the year to P9.593 billion owing primarily to the upsurge in the amortization of program rights in order to further diversify and strengthen its programming.

(L-R) EVP and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon and GMPI President and COO Lizelle G. Maralag

GMA Network reported consolidated gross revenues of P13.929 billion for the full year of 2012, up by six percent versus 2011. At the end of the period, the Network managed a seven percent growth in airtime sales to P12.703 billion that comprises 91 percent of its gross revenues. For 2013, GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon said that the company is expected to deliver better financial results as evidenced by its strong financial performance at the opening of 2013. “The first two months have been exceptionally strong with GMA Channel 7 hitting an all time high in February alone,” declared Gozon. “We intend to keep this momentum as we anticipate sustained revenue growth across all platforms.” GMA’s flagship channel Ch. 7 drove the increase in 2012 as it registered a seven percent rise in incremental sales due to its consistent nationwide leadership across the year. This was supported by revenues from Regional TV, the business unit that oversees GMA’s regional TV operations, which climbed a significant 25 percent, as a result of various expansion and improvement efforts in different areas nationwide. Leading local news channel GMA News TV, on the other hand, gained a modest two percent increase in its top line on its second year of operations, while airtime revenues from Radio dropped three percent.

GMA International, which manages the operations and distribution of the Network’s international channels, sustained the subscriber uptake of its flagship channel GMA Pinoy (GPTV) and its lifestyle channel GMA Life TV (GLTV) that grew 13 percent to 329,108 and nine percent to 124,884, respectively, at the period’s closing. However, subscription and advertising revenues from GMA International fell a tad short by 0.9 percent due to the appreciation of the Peso but discounting the impact of the forex fluctuation, international sales slightly grew by two percent. Meanwhile, earnings from subsidiaries went up by 14 percent coming from external sources but mainly from Digify, Inc., GMA New Media’s new techno-creative lab that provides technology-based solutions to other companies, which generated bulk of the net increase in this category. GMA Films’ co-produced entry to the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival Si Agimat, Si Enteng, At Si Ako raked in almost P98 million in gross receipts, while Julie Anne San Jose’s self-titled album by GMA Records clinched a Double Platinum Record Award from its combined CD and digital sales of almost 38,000 units for the period August 15, 2012 to December 15, 2012. San Jose’s carrier single titled “I’ll Be There” registered over 245,000 downloads for the same period, which earned for it a Platinum Digital Single Award. According to PARI, San Jose is the very first recipient of this award.

The rise in OPEX also came from the increase in depreciation charges from the commissioning of the state-of-the-art Media Asset Management System (MAMS) that allows the Network to migrate to a tapeless, file-based workflow in the last quarter of 2011, along with massive investments for the launch of multi-million peso originating stations in Ilocos Norte (GMA Ilocos) and Naga City (GMA Bicol) in 2012. Furthermore, general and administrative expenses (GAEX) rose by 12 percent due to the disbursement of several employee bonuses compounded by the growth in the Network’s manpower headcount. GMA thus ended 2012 with earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) of P3.397 billion, reaching a double-digit gain of 10 percent year on year. However, due to the rise in OPEX, net income after tax settled at P1.617 billion, a decline of five percent versus a year ago.

GMA Network announces release of P1.215B cash dividends GMA Network’s Board of Directors has approved cash dividends amounting to P1.215 billion at P0.25 centavos per share, during a meeting held at the GMA Network headquarters in Quezon City on March 21. The record date for the cash dividend is April 17, while the payment date is May 14, 2013. The dividend payout indicates a strong performance in 2013. “We are confident that we can reach or even surpass our targets this year. In fact, part of our income as of February 2013 has been included in the dividends that we will pay our shareholders,” according to GMA Network Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon.

GMA’s League Of Artists Kapuso Network’s Artist Center talents undergo development workshop Good acting can be taught, or so believes GMA’s Chairman and CEO, Atty Felipe L Gozon. He said so himself as he congratulated the 50 contract stars of GMA Artist Center who recently completed an intensive talent development workshop designed to enrich budding actors’ and actresses’ skills in the multi-faceted field of performing arts. Seasoned movie and television director Maryo J. delos Reyes spearheaded the team of mentors who gave lectures on acting while University of the Philippines - Diliman professor Kitchie Molina facilitated the voice classes; professional dance choreographers Danny Vinculado and Sandy Hontiveros facilitated the dance exercises; three-time Aliw Awardee for Stage Direction Freddie Santos oversaw the training in hosting with the help of speech coaches from Ahead Pro and American Institute for English Proficiency; and, star builder German “Kuya Germs” Moreno gave a pep talk on the all-important value of professionalism. In simple awarding ceremonies, Gozon welcomed the young performers into the Network’s League of Artists, saying “Some people are born good artists but not all of us are lucky enough to be born (as such). Dito (sa workshop) pino-prove natin na ang pagaartista ay naituturo rin; it can be learned.” He also thanked the parents of the artists for entrusting the careers of their talented children in the care of the GMA Artist Center and reminded the graduates that while fame and glamour may fleet through time, certain values will never change. “’Pag kayo’y naging popular na at successful, huwag na huwag niyong papayagan na umakyat sa ulo ninyo

ang inyong success and popularity. Sapagkat madaling nawawala ‘yan. “What is going to last even when you’re no longer artists na pinapanood ng mga tao ay ang inyong professionalism; loyalty – to your friends, to the people you worked with, and of course, to our network -- and the greatest of all, humility. Among the GMA executives present during the ceremonies were GMA President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., Entertainment TV OIC Lilybeth G. Rasonable, Entertainment TV Vice President Marivin Arayata, Entertainment TV Asst. Vice President Redgie Magno, GMA Artist Center AVP Simoun Ferrer, GMA Artist Center Talent Development Head David Fabros, director and workshop mentor Maryo J. delos Reyes and the business heads of GMA’s Entertainment TV Group and the program managers. Among those who completed the workshop were Vaness del Moral, Diva Montelaba, Julian Trono, Krystal Reyes, Protege winners Jeric Gonzales and Thea Tolentino, finalists Ruru Madrid, Mikoy Morales, Elle Ramirez, Arny Ross, Zandra Summer, Abel Estanislao, Bryan Benedict, Japs de Luna and Shelly Hipolito, “Teen Gen” lead cast member

ARTIST CENTER WORKSHOP

FEEDBACK

Chynna Ortaleza: The reason why I like joining the workshop is because it will make me a better person. We are taught to try and go out there and see the world and feel what life is like. And because of that, because of the experience that you get from that, you become a better actor. Enzo Pineda: The workshop will help me because it will enhance my acting, singing, dancing and hosting abilities. Kylie Padilla: Ah... siguro the workshop helped me how to jump into emotions right away. So hindi kailangan mag-pagod saka it helped me to experiment ng mga kaya kong gawin sa acting, sa katawan ko, sa boses ko. I hope meron pang susunod. Vaness del Moral: It will teach me how to do the things Iím afraid to do. I will be testing my limits and see if I can still stretch my instruments.

GMA Kapuso Foundation builds multi-purpose centers in Bulacan and Rizal

GMA Kapuso Foundation helps local residents of Calumpit (Bulacan) and Angono (Rizal) become better equipped to face future calamities with the construction of Kapuso Multi-Purpose Centers in select schools in these areas. Both Calumpit and Angono are known flood-prone areas, prompting the Foundation to initiate disaster preparedness measures in cooperation with local government officials. “Recent climate patterns indicate the possibility of more frequent flooding in vulnerable areas such as Calumpit and Angono,” says GMAKF EVP and COO Mel C. Tiangco on the rationale behind this project. “Upon meeting with the local government units, we’ve decided to

10

explore other possibilities outside of school building projects in order to help the affected populace more directly and the idea of building a multi-purpose center came up,” Tiangco adds. Taking factors such as accessibility and security into consideration, Baguion Elementary School in Calumpit, Bulacan and Angono Elementary School in Angono, Rizal were identified as the ideal locations for this purpose. These Kapuso Multi-purpose Centers will double as evacuation areas in times of calamities and as venues for indoor activities and school functions. Construction for both projects is currently ongoing; groundbreaking ceremonies took place In February. The GMAKF targets the completion of the two projects in May and June.
