26-27 GMA Network 28-29 continued to pull away 30 from competition in nationwide TV ratings in April, according to data from the industry’s widely trusted ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

From April 1 to 30 (with April 23 to 30 based on overnight data), the Kapuso Network increased its lead in National Urban Television Audience

Measurement (NUTAM), garnering an average total day people audience share of 43.3 percent, besting ABSCBN’s 35.1 percent by a remarkable 8.2 points. The margin is higher than the 5.4-point advantage posted by GMA versus ABS-CBN in March. GMA likewise remained unbeatable in Urban Luzon, which accounts for 77 percent of the total urban TV household population in the country. In April, GMA posted an average total day people audience share of 50.4 percent, way ahead of ABS-CBN’s 28.9 percent.

GMA Network Recurring Revenues Rise 15% in Q1 2017 (L-R): GMA Executive Vice President and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, and Chief Marketing Officer Lizelle G. Maralag

GMA Network, Inc. (GMA) reported recurring revenues of P3.766 billion in the first quarter of 2017, up 15 percent versus the same period last year. Including political advertisements, GMA’s revenues in the first three months went down by only 4 percent. Political advocacies and advertisements contributed P640 million to the Company’s top line during the first quarter last year. Total operating expenses were kept at bay, going up by only 5 percent to P2.592 billion while EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) decreased by 16 percent to P1.545 billion. GMA finished the quarter with a net income of P842 million, posting a 17 percent decline year-on-year due to the effect of election-related placements in 2016. The Network paid out cash dividends to its shareholders worth P3.548 billion at P0.73 per share on May 15, upholding its commitment of providing the best returns to its shareholders.

“Even without political ads, we are tracking a stronger year financially and we expect to achieve our growth targets in 2017,” said GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon. Last April 24, GMA launched Dobol B sa News TV in the morning primetime block to further strengthen the market share and revenues of its flagship AM radio station DZBB and leading local news channel GMA News TV.

Other Business Developments Discounting the effect of political advertisements, the Network’s core channel, GMA-7, generated a 15 percent improvement in airtime revenues in the first quarter. GMA News TV and Radio increased by 22 percent and 20 percent respectively. GMA International (GMAI), the business unit that manages the distribution and operation of the Network’s international channels, recorded a 9 percent increase in revenues from its combined subscription/licensing and advertising. For the three months ended March 2017, flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV had an estimated 1.8

million viewers worldwide, a year-onyear increase of 6 percent. GMA’s technology arm, GMA New Media, Inc. (NMI), closed the quarter with a remarkable performance, delivering a consolidated revenue growth of 63 percent and a net income increase of 421 percent. GMA Worldwide, Inc. (GWI), the Network’s subsidiary responsible for syndicating Kapuso programs to the international market, sold content for airing in Latin America, Vietnam, Malaysia, Canada, and Zambia, among others. GWI’s sales were up 18 percent compared to the same period last year. On GMA’s Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) rollout, construction for the Network’s transmitter and antenna building and other facilities for its Mega Manila digital broadcast is ongoing.

SPECIAL

GMA Network 2017 Annual Sto Following is the report delivered by GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon during the Annual Stockholders’ Meeting held on May 17, 2017 at the GMA Network Studios. Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat! On behalf of the Board of Directors of GMA Network, I welcome all of you to our Annual Stockholders’ Meeting. I can see from your many smiling faces . . . That most of you have already received your cash dividends for this year. Two days ago, May 15, we released the highest dividend payout in the history of our company worth more than 3.5 billion pesos. This proves that we honor our commitment to provide the best returns to our shareholders. We are proud of our record-breaking accomplishments in 2016. The year was a fitting reward for all our hard work and strategic efforts to regain our top position, in so far as ratings are concerned in the Philippine broadcast industry.

We have so far maintained our top position in nationwide TV ratings up to today and we will do our best to keep our lead in the months and years to come. GMA News TV, on the other hand, remained the leading news channel in the country. Last April 24, we launched “Dobol B sa News TV” in the radio primetime morning block which is expected to enhance the channel’s and Radio’s financial and ratings performance.

Let us now proceed to the better news - our financial performance

Indeed, we have been looking forward to this opportunity to share with you the remarkable performance of our company last year and provide you with a glimpse of what is in store this year.

On top of the boost provided by political advertisements to our top line, our recurring sales accounted for the larger portion of our unprecedented revenue growth in 2016.

Allow me to deliver a summary of our company’s outstanding achievements in 2016 . . .

Our consolidated gross revenues last year ended at 16.673 billion pesos – up 21 percent versus our 2015 gross revenues.

Let’s start with our ratings performance Beginning the second half of 2016, we managed to put together a strong programming lineup for GMA channel 7, particularly in the much coveted evening primetime block. As a result, we regained the TV ratings leadership in nationwide NUTAM (National Urban TV Audience Measurement) ratings starting September last year. We also increased our margins in the viewer-rich areas

10

of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, and more importantly, reduced the gap in TV ratings in Visayas and Mindanao.

Our airtime revenues amounted to 15.131 billion pesos – 22 percent higher than 2015. As usual, our core channel, GMA-7, led all revenue streams in 2016, recording a 23 percent increase in revenues. Our Radio business, on the other hand, ended 2016 with a 19 percent hike while GMA News TV posted a 10 percent increase. Regional TV’s combined

GMA KAPUSO MAGAZINE |MAY 2017 ISSUE

national and local sales went up 4 percent. In contrast to the double-digit increase in our revenues, our total operating expenses of 11.597 billion pesos went up by only 8 percent compared to 2015 as we continued to benefit from the operational efficiencies we introduced. Consequently, our EBITDA (Earnings Before Interests, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) in 2016 ended at 6.778 billion pesos, 46 percent higher versus the previous year. Our consolidated net income after tax last year stood at 3.647 billion pesos - 72 percent or 1.521 billion pesos more than our bottom line in 2015.

Other business units & subsidiaries Revenues from our International Operations and other businesses reached 1.542 billion pesos – up 15 percent compared to 2015. Propelled by the growth in subscriber count of GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV, our revenues from our International Operations in 2016 were 12 percent higher than the previous year. Sales of GMA Worldwide registered a 36 percent increase over a year ago. GMA Films, on the other hand, recorded a 166 percent increase in revenues versus 2015. Consolidated revenues of GMA New Media and its subsidiaries grew 42 percent, resulting from the implementation of strategic sales and marketing initiatives. revenues from GMA Records increased 4 percent while revenues from Alta Productions went up 3 percent versus the previous year.

SPECIAL

ockholders’ Meeting Script 2010 posted an 18 percent growth in revenues. In other words, all our subsidiaries increased their gross incomes in 2016.

Conclusion While we have raised the bar higher in 2016, this year is shaping up to be even more exciting and a better one for us in terms of revenues and ratings, more so, because our plans for GMA Network’s immediate future are already in place. This includes our digital terrestrial TV, which we are geared up to launch soon, initially at least in Mega Manila. Your Network continues to embrace the unceasing and fast-paced advancement of technology, particularly in broadcast, as we see more and more convenient platforms becoming available to our global Filipino audience. Still, the real challenge for us in order to remain on top of the industry is to consistently produce and deliver superior content. We are determined to accomplish this for the viewing pleasure

of our Kapuso worldwide, who may wish to see our programs wherever they are and however and whenever they want to – via TV sets, mobile gadgets, online, and on-demand. Finally, allow me to express my sincerest thanks to all of you - our shareholders, our directors and officers, employees and talents, other stakeholders, and especially our loyal Kapuso viewers here and abroad - for your unwavering trust and support. Without you, none of these would have been possible. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat, mga Kapuso.
