UPDATES
GMA Network 2018 Annual Stockholders’ Meeting Following is the report delivered by GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon during the Annual Stockholders’ Meeting held on May 16, 2018 at the GMA Network Studios. Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat! Welcome to our Annual Stockholders’ Meeting. With a record-breaking financial performance in 2016, a presidential election year, 2017 was a challenging year, to say the least. As we have done in the past, we faced the challenges head on and at the end of the year, we were able to achieve a number of accomplishments that we are proud to report to you. Allow me to share with you some of our significant achievements in 2017 as well as our plans for the company’s immediate future.
On top of our list of accomplishments is our ratings performance… It is usually harder to maintain leadership than to grab it. There is no sure-fire formula on how to be number one but, more so, to stay on top. Thus, to remain dominant, we constantly have to improve our programming content. I am pleased to report that for the year 2017, not only were we able to keep our advantage over ABS-CBN in nationwide NUTAM (National Urban TV Audience Measurement) ratings, but we even managed to increase our lead. Based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, we posted an average total day people audience share of 42.5 percent in 2017, higher by 5.7 percent over ABS-CBN. We also led across all day parts, including in the much-coveted primetime block. In addition, we increased our margins in our bailiwick areas of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila. In Urban Luzon, we led ABS-CBN in average people audience

share by 17.8 percent and in Mega Manila, our lead was 25.2 percent. We also continued to reduce the gap in TV ratings in Visayas and Mindanao where we were behind ABS-CBN. As of April 2018, we are still on top in nationwide TV ratings. We will pull out all the stops to keep our supremacy for as long as possible. Our other free-to-air channel, GMA News TV, is closing the gap with TV-5. Another success story in 2017 was Dobol B sa News TV. Our decision to simultaneously air DZBB’s morning primetime programming on GNTV starting April 24 last year was beneficial to both Radio and GNTV. DZBB once again became the leading AM station in Mega Manila since December 2017 and continues to be number one as of the latest Nielsen survey, apart from generating additional revenues for both Radio and GNTV.
Let us now go to our financial performance... As you already know, our top line in 2016 was boosted by the nearly P1.5 billion worth of political advocacies from the national elections. This, together with the reduced advertising spending by some major advertisers in 2017, contributed to our lower consolidated gross revenues of P15.345 billion, down 8 percent versus 2016. On the other hand, without the effect of political ads, our consolidated recurring gross revenues last year went up by 1 percent or by P159 million against 2016. Our airtime revenues amounted to P13.609 billion, 10 percent lower than in
2016. Without political ads, however, our 2017 airtime revenues were almost at par with the previous year. All airtime revenue-generating platforms experienced decreases in sales except for Regional TV which posted higher sales by about 1 percent versus 2016. Without the impact of political ads, Regional TV’s recurring sales grew by 19 percent. Our main channel, GMA-7, posted a 10 percent drop in airtime revenues. Without political ads, recurring gross revenues for GMA-7 ended flat compared to the previous year. Our Radio business, on the other hand, ended 2017 with a 6 percent decline in sales. Minus the effect of political ads, Radio’s regular sales went up by 18 percent. GMA News TV posted sales lower by 9 percent. Without pol ads, the decrease was only 7 percent. The decline in our top line figures was partly mitigated by our operational efficiencies as our total operating expenses of P11.8 billion went up by only 2 percent compared to 2016. Our EBITDA (earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation and amortization) in 2017 settled at P5.217 billion - 23 percent lower versus the previous year. GMA Network’s consolidated net income after tax last year ended at P2.56 billion – 30 percent or P1.087 billion less than our bottom line in 2016. Be that as it may, our 2017 net income was the highest in the history of our company for a non-election year.
UPDAT ES Other business units & subsidiaries Unaffected by election placements, revenues from our International Operations and other businesses reached P1.736 billion – up 13 percent compared to 2016. The increase in subscriber count of GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV and GMA News TV propelled the revenue growth of our International Operations which reached more than a billion pesos in 2017 or 9 percent higher than the previous year. Our program syndication business, through GMA Worldwide, registered an 18 percent increase in sales over a year ago. Combined revenues of GMA New Media and its subsidiaries grew by 34 percent – resulting from increased online advertising revenues and content provisioning. Revenues from GMA Records increased by 24 percent while revenues from ALTA Productions went up by 4 percent versus the previous year. On the other hand, Script2010 posted a 2 percent decline in revenues.

sure that you already know about this, I just want to highlight our commitment of providing the best returns to our shareholders which is our way of showing our appreciation and gratitude to them.
In addition, we are looking forward to introducing our patented digital TV devices to the market which will have competitive functional features that our competitors do not offer.
Since 2007, when we listed our shares in the PSE, we have paid cash dividends in the total amount of P23.378 billion.
Needless to say, we are relentless in our efforts to improve our content which can now be accessed through all available platforms. Before I end this report, I’d like to mention that yesterday, May 15, we paid out cash dividends totaling P2.430 billion or P0.50 per share to all shareholders of record as of April 23, 2018. While I am
Finally, I wish to thank all of you, most especially our loyal Kapuso viewers here and abroad, for your loyalty, trust, and support. We are counting on you to be with us as we continue our journey into a bright and colorful future. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat, mga Kapuso.
Conclusion Following another productive year in 2017, we are excited to continue implementing our strategies for the company’s immediate future, starting with our digitization plans. On December 15, 2017, we successfully implemented the first phase of our digital TV transmission project which enabled our digital TV signal for both GMA and GMA News TV to cover Metro Manila and nearby provinces of Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, Pampanga, and parts of Bataan, Nueva

GMA YouTube Channel Reaches 5 Billion Views Achieves fourfold growth in watch time GMA Network celebrates another milestone as its YouTube channel has reached 5 billion views with 4 million subscribers, making the Philippine media giant one of YouTube’s fastest growing partners in the region. Moreover, the Kapuso YouTube Channel has gained over 3 billion views in less than one year since GMA’s historic and unprecedented partnership with YouTube called Player for Publishers (PfP).
GMA’s YouTube channels include GMA Network (main channel), GMA News, and GMA Public Affairs, as well as the recently launched GMA Playground, and GMA Playlist. A Google-owned subsidiary, YouTube is the undisputed global leader in the Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD) platform. GMA, through its digital arm GMA New Media, Inc. (NMI), has slowly built the partnership with YouTube in recent years as an indispensable ally in brand-building and as a reliable source of substantial online revenues.
Through PfP (formerly YouTube Partner Program), viewers can watch officially uploaded and high quality videos of GMA programs online. The team-up of two industry leaders not only supports the anti-piracy efforts of the Philippine entertainment industry, but more importantly, addresses millennial video viewing habits. Notably, the partnership with YouTube enabled the Network to gain far more subscribers in the past one year than in the nine previous years combined. GMA made long-form content available on YouTube midyear of 2017. This resulted to a fourfold growth year-on-year in watch time and achieved no less than 300 percent in revenue growth. The said efforts further strengthened the Network’s prominence as a leading provider of premium content not only in traditional broadcast media, but in digital as well.

GMA Playground houses child-friendly Kapuso programs like i-Bilib, AHA!, Sirkus, full episodes of Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, Alamat and Art Angel.
GMA Playlist features GMA-produced original songs. The top videos from the channel are theme songs of popular series such as Ika-6 na Utos, Super Ma’am, and Haplos.
GMA One (Online Exclusives) is an online series done in collaboration with GMA Public Affairs and the Entertainment Content Group (ECG). This aims to provide viewers with more YouTube-exclusive content or “Madefor-Web” content and is housed under the GMA Network channel. GMA One initially produced three shows, namely, “Adulting with Atom Araullo”, “#Goals” with Gabbi Garcia, and “Fact or Fake” with Joseph Morong. GMA’s ECG launched new shows in February, namely, “Thousanaire” (Saan Aabot ang P1000 Mo), “The Boobay and Tekla Show”, “Taste MNL”, and “All Access”.

GMA Network stars livened up the 120th Philippine Independence Day celebrations (PIDC) in the Middle East through back-to-back shows and fun festivities. Last May 3, “Pinoy Fest 2018” kicked off with performances from various Filipino groups based in Dubai at the Sheikh Rashid Auditorium. The Kapuso abroad were then treated to a spectacular night, starting off with Divine Tetay who performed a series of song numbers coupled with comedic stints. Multi-talented host and actress Solenn Heussaff set the stage on fire while Kapuso heartthrob Migo Adecer charmed the audience with his mellow and heartwarming songs. And finally, hearts fluttered all over the venue as Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo serenaded the crowd with his rendition of some of today’s hit songs. Dubai-based world-class Filipino designer Ryan Pacioles of Atelier Zuhra added glitz to the show with the stunning gowns and suits he provided the Kapuso stars.

And as an additional treat to all the hardworking OFWs present there, a meet-and-greet was held after the event where Tetay, Solenn, Migo, and Dennis had fun chatting up and taking selfies with the Kapuso abroad. The Kapuso stars also explored the city and visited the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) at the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Dubai. They also paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai where they met with Consul General Paul Cortes. Pinoy Fest 2018 was organized by the Philippine Consulate of Dubai and the Northern Emirates together with DJMC Events. Exclusive media partners were GMA Pinoy TV, OSN, and Tag 91.1 with the official carrier Philippine Airlines. Meanwhile, celebrations continued in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on May 11 with the arrival of Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and amazing comedian Betong Sumaya for the “Kalayaan, Kantawanan, Kasiyahan sa Gitnang Silangan” in Jeddah. The whole day event at the Philippine Consulate grounds in Jeddah began with
a zumba group dance and performances featuring local artists. Fans cheered when Christian took the stage and sang his heart out, giving the audience a whirlwind of emotions from happy to sentimental, to being in love and back to joyful again. In the afternoon, Betong made the crowd dance with his upbeat song medleys, played short games with the audience, and gave away exciting prizes to lucky raffle winners. After their separate performances, both artists held a meet-and-greet with the GMA Pinoy TV subscribers via OSN who were present during the event. Christian and Betong also visited the Philippine Consulate office, gave an inspirational talk, and performed a few emotional song numbers which moved and brought to tears some women from Bahay Kalinga. Both events were made possible through the exclusive media sponsorship of GMA’s International channels GMA Pinoy TV, GMA Life TV, and GMA News TV International as part of its commitment to bring Filipinos abroad closer to home.
