GMA Tops Digital TV Coverage Survey GMA Network led in an independent study measuring digital TV presence in Metro Manila, affirming the robust coverage of the Network’s digital TV signal.
GMA has started to adopt the Japanese DTV standard or ISDB-T. “Moreover, it manifests the level of importance the Network has placed in being able to reach as many viewers as possible as this ultimately determines our audience size,” Ancheta adds. The Network takes pride in its commitment to signal superiority as evidenced by its excellent signal across the country, an advantage over competitors exhibited consistently by its analog footprint which it commits to carry over to digital.
The study, which was conducted by local smartphone and tablet manufacturer Starmobile, revealed that GMA 1SEG and GMA News TV were available in 10 out of the 14 test locations in Metro Manila. Among the other channels surveyed were ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN Sports, TV5, and AKSYON TV. “The results of the study confirm our readiness for the eventual shift to Digital TV,” says Engr. Elvis B. Ancheta, GMA Senior Vice President for Engineering. In compliance with the directive of the National Telecommunications Commission,
Based on claimed household reception findings in the 2014 TV Establishment Survey of Nielsen Philippines, GMA is received by 99 percent of all TV households in Total Urban Philippines, leading other local free-to-air channels. In 2014, GMA completed numerous transmission upgrades including the commissioning of a new 2KW TV relay

The CEO’s Report
2015 GMA NETWORK ANNUAL STOCKHOLDERS’ MEETING Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to say that amidst all the challenges we have had to face last year, our fundamentals remain sound and good.
Following is the full text of the CEO’s report during GMA Network’s Annual Stockholders’ Meeting on May 20, 2015 in Studio 6.
Let me discuss several relevant details to give you an updated picture of our company…
Ratings Performance
Fellow Directors GMA Officers Heads of our Subsidiaries Shareholders of GMA Network Guests Ladies and Gentlemen
As always, our fight for supremacy is played out in the TV ratings arena.
Magandang umaga sa inyong lahat, mga Kapuso! Welcome to our Annual Stockholders’ Meeting. On behalf of the Board of Directors of GMA Network, I would like to express my gratitude to you, dear stockholders, for supporting our company. Your presence this morning indicates that we, the Board of Directors, and the employees of GMA Network, are not alone in our commitment to grow GMA Network into a more formidable institution both in the media sector and in the Philippine business milieu. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat, mga Kapuso. These past several years, I have been talking about multi-tasking, boundary-less platforms, and a host of other trends and developments affecting the television industry. We pride ourselves in being forward-thinkers which is why we have been carefully and prudently preparing for what the future of the broadcast business will bring. At the same time, we remain steadfast and focused in taking the right and necessary steps to ensure that our position as the most profitable television network in the country remains.
Channel 7, our main revenue stream, also recorded a 10 percent decrease in revenues.
Here is a summary of our TV ratings performance in 2014: GMA’s nationwide average household audience share was 33 percent -- 2.1 percent behind ABS-CBN’s average. In Mega Manila, GMA’s audience share lead over ABS-CBN stood at 8.8 percent; in Urban Luzon, we led ABS by 5.1 percent. Luzon and Mega Manila have always been our bailiwicks. Mega Manila accounted for 59.7 percent of total urban TV households while Urban Luzon carried 77.1 percent in 2014. GMA News TV, our second free-to-air channel, maintained its number one spot among news channels in the country. It also generated higher revenues in 2014 following a year on year comparison with 2013’s performance.
Financial Performance
4
Our airtime revenues amounted to 10.679 billion pesos - 9 percent less than last year.
Sadly, we did not fully accomplish our goal of topping the National Urban TV ratings in 2014. However, most of our primetime programs like “Niño”, “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real”, “Kambal Sirena”, and “My Destiny”, as well as our afternoon soaps such as “Yagit”, “The Half Sisters”, and “Ang Lihim ni Annasandra”, allowed us to retain our strong hold of Urban Luzon and Mega Manila.
DZBB, our AM radio station, has been the number one radio station in Mega Manila since mid-2014.
GMA Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon with Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban, Independent Director
In 2014, GMA Network’s consolidated gross revenues settled at 11.983 billion pesos - 7 percent less than our 2013 performance.
In 2013, our revenues were boosted by political advertisements that amounted to P724 million. Our challenge in 2014 was to keep our income at least on par with that of 2013. But without election spending, it was really tough.

New Director Mr. Michael John R. Duavit
However, Radio and GMA News TV, recorded a 6 percent hike in their respective recurring revenues while that of Regional TV’s went up by 10 percent. Our total operating expenses was practically flat at 10.574 billion pesos compared to 2013. EBITDA closed at 2.925 billion pesos, 21 percent lower versus the previous year. GMA Network’s consolidated net income in 2014 stood at 1.010 billion pesos - down 40 percent or 665 million pesos, versus 2013.
Other Business Units & Subsidiaries Here is a quick look at how our other business units and subsidiaries fared in 2014: Our other business units recorded total revenues amounting to 1.304 billion pesos. This is a 7 percent improvement compared to 2013.
UPDATES
The GMA Network Board of Directors is comprised of (L-R) Michael John R. Duavit, Laura J. Westfall, President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon, Executive Vice President and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, Independent Director Chief Justice Artemio V. Panganiban, Independent Director Jaime C. Laya, Anna Teresa G. Abrogar and Joel Marcelo G. Jimenez (not in photo) with Corporate Secretary Roberto O. Parel
Our International business recorded a 10 percent increase in revenues over the previous year, thanks to the rise in subscribers of our three international channels. In 2015, our international channels are set to be seen by Filipinos in key European countries, barring any setbacks in the ongoing negotiations. Meanwhile, we continue to strengthen our foothold in the ASEAN region with GMA Worldwide, our syndication arm. Distribution revenues went up by 20 percent, with 2,052 hours of programs and movies sold for telecast in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Hawaii and even as far as Nigeria in West Africa. Our strong performance in the syndication business also enhances our positioning as a choice content provider for the ASEAN market – this is crucial since ASEAN integration is happening as we meet here today. Amidst the growing impact of digitization, our GMA New Media is in the forefront of our efforts to further magnify our presence online, ending the year with a 79 percent growth in online sales. YouTube earnings recorded a 46 percent increase, while revenues from PEP.ph and SPIN.ph grew by a combined total of 62 percent. Meanwhile, revenues from Alta Productions went up by 22 percent, with audio dubbing services being the primary contributor to its earnings. Script 2010, on the other hand, posted a 15 percent increase in revenues.
Strategic solutions As I have mentioned early on, 2014 was particularly tough because while we struggled to win in the ratings game, we
had to contend with the contraction of adspend by some of our clients. Thus, it was necessary for us to carry out strategic solutions moving forward. One particular area that we focused on was managing our costs without derailing our planned improvements and other activities necessary to keep our overall positioning in the industry. Thanks to a thorough review of our business needs vis a vis our capabilities, and the industry situation as a whole, all transmitter and other upgrades that were already in the pipeline were still implemented despite our belt-tightening. As part of our preparations for migration to digital terrestrial television, our bigger studios in our Quezon City headquarters were also upgraded to high definition. Likewise, all our OB van facilities have been wired with new broadcast peripherals and are now capable of multi-format including HD recording.
Conclusion As we have known all along, making sound and strategic management decisions can spell the difference between success and failure. Thus, we had to contend with hard choices and make painful decisions. The overall welfare and interest of your company was our guidepost as we struggled in making these hard decisions. Nonetheless, 2015 definitely looks more promising in terms of ratings and net income. We are ready to move forward, armed with our plans to further expand or improve all areas of our business.
GMA KAPUSO MAGAZINE |MAY 2015 ISSUE
To be sure, our net income for the first quarter of 2015 was already 25 percent more than our net income in the first quarter of 2014. As we have announced earlier, Mr. Michael John R. Duavit has been elected to the GMA Network board of directors, replacing his sister, Ms. Judith Duavit Vazquez, who resigned in February of this year. Dear shareholders, the broadcast industry is in the midst of an evolution that will have far-reaching effects. Sadly, nobody knows at this point how these changes will eventually fan out and how they will impact on our Network and the industry. Rest assured that we are pulling all stops to ensure that we stay on par with, if not ahead of, the competition. Your company remains a profitable investment for all our shareholders. As of May 19, yesterday, we have released our dividend payout of twenty-five centavos per share to all our shareholders as of April 24, 2015. These dividends total 1.25 billion pesos and represent a payout ratio of 120 percent in relation to our net income in 2014. We sincerely thank you, our shareholders, our officers, employees, other stakeholders, and especially our viewers, for your unwavering trust - we are successful because of your invaluable continued support. In June, we are marking our 65th year… Here’s to many more years of changing lives for the better! Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat, mga Kapuso.
