8 NEW PROGRAM

A tale of love and vengeance on GMA Afternoon Prime’s intriguing series

GMA KAPUSO MAGAZINE |NOVEMBER 2019 ISSUE

NEW PROGRAM 9

(L-R) Jeric Gonzales, Sheryl Cruz, Sunshine Dizon, and Klea Pineda

T

wo successful women will be caught in the traps of infidelity leading to the immeasurable pain of an innocent daughter on GMA Network’s newest Afternoon Prime drama series, Magkaagaw.

THE CAST

Former on-screen rivals in “Bakekang” and two of the industry’s sought after-actresses, Sheryl Cruz as Veron and Sunshine Dizon as Laura reunite in the most intriguing drama that will heat up Kapuso viewers’ afternoon. “I’m very happy because it’s been a while and maganda ‘yung team up namin ni Sunshine all the time. I also have to thank GMA for this project because it’s a different character – it’s my first time portraying a role of having an affair with a younger man,” Sheryl said.

Should the daughter suffer for her mother’s sin?

“It’s a reunion project with Sheryl so that’s very exciting. We are also working with Direk Gil (Tejada Jr.), who is our director in Bakekang. What makes Magkaagaw unique is first time mata-tackle dito ‘yung character ni Laura na hindi sinasadyang maging kabit. She was blindsided and put in a situation na wala siyang laban kasi hindi niya alam. She did not intentionally ruin a relationship,” Sunshine said. The drama introduces the freshest team up of StarStruck 6 Ultimate Female Survivor Klea Pineda as Clarisse and Protégé Season 2 winner Jeric Gonzales as Jio in their most daring roles yet. Joining the stellar cast of Magkaagaw are: Polo Ravales as Oliver, Laura’s suitor who is a con artist; Dion Ignacio as Zander, Clarisse’s officemate who secretly fancies her; Dennis Padilla as Mark, Jio’s comical uncle who acts as his moral booster; Lovely Abella as Suzi, Laura’s kikay but supportive best friend; Isay Alvarez as Fely, Laura’s doting mother; Patricia Tumulak as Gilda, Veron’s cousin who conspires with her against those who have wronged her; and Joanna Marie Tan as Sheila, Clarisse’s confidante who sticks up for her through ups and downs. Magkaagaw also highlights the special participation of actor-politician Alfred Vargas as Mario, Veron’s unfaithful husband who pursued Laura and unknowingly made her a mistress.

THE STORY

Veron (Sheryl) is ambitious and careerdriven. When a big career opportunity abroad presents itself, she pursues it – despite her husband Mario’s (Alfred) plea for her to stay. Unable to withstand the long distance, their marriage suffered. Back home, Mario met Laura (Sunshine), a loving and kind real estate sales agent. Eventually, Mario leaves Veron and chooses Laura. Heartbroken and alone, Veron decides to focus on her career, but the pain from her husband’s betrayal remained. Twenty-five years later, she becomes very influential in the corporate world as the Country Director of McKella Philippines. Here, she meets her new employee Clarisse (Klea), an ambitious, determined, and strong young lady. Veron then crosses paths with the dashing Jio (Jeric) and romance blossoms between the two, not knowing that he is the husband of her promising mentee Clarisse. Veron soon discovers that the latter is the daughter of Mario and his mistress Laura. She plots revenge and makes Clarisse pay for the sins of her mother by stealing her husband. The legal wife Veron, is now turning into the kind of person she hated the most – a mistress.

THE CREATIVE TEAM

The show’s creative team is composed of creative director Aloy Adlawan; creative head RJ Nuevas; creative consultant Jojo Tawasil Nones; headwriter Richard Cruz; writers Luningning Ribay, Renato Custodio; and brainstormers Gilda Olvidado Marcelino, Nehemrey Dallego. This original series, created by the GMA Drama Group, is headed by the SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, VP for Drama Redgie A. Magno, AVP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Senior Program Manager Camille Hermoso-Hafezan, and Executive Producer Jojo Aleta. Under the helm of esteemed director Gil Tejada, Jr., Magkaagaw premiered on October 21, after Eat Bulaga on GMA Afternoon Prime.

Last November 7 at the Manila Polo Club, GMA Network honored its artists with a funfilled Thanksgiving Party. Themed ‘Havana Nights’, Kapuso on-cam personalities and Network executives came ready to dance the night away and bond with each other. Some of them gamely sang on stage and performed for their fellow artists. GMA Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Annette Gozon-Valdes were in attendance, along with Chief Marketing Officer Lizelle Maralag, Senior Vice President for News and Public Affairs Marissa Flores and other GMA executives.

“We’ve got a good set of Top 12 Finalists. All of them are very talented and we’ve seen them give outstanding performances, but at the end of the day, this is a competition and they have to show us more to make it all the way to the end,” said Christian. For Aiai, this is the beginning of their ‘real’ fight, “Exciting lalo ang show dahil eto na ‘yung totoong laban. Habang kumokonti sila, dapat mas ibigay pa nila ‘yung best nila. Tsaka marami pa silang twists na aabangan, pati mga viewers natin, kaya ‘wag silang bibitaw sa The Clash.”

‘Maghintay Ka Lamang’ is composed by Vehnee Saturno and produced by Kedy Sanchez. The single landed in the 4th spot of iTunes Philippines’ All Genres list and 3rd spot of its Pop Chart.

KYLINE ALCANTARA After the success of her self-titled album last year, Kyline returns to singing with her revival single under GMA Music entitled ‘Paalam Na.’ She promises to add her own spin to the OPM classic, “For this song, nagamit ko talaga ‘yung background ko sa acting to draw emotion while singing since medyo deep and about hurting siya. I haven’t felt that before kaya naman I need to be an actress also while singing.”.

The Clash is hosted by Clash Masters, Total Heartthrob Rayver Cruz and Asia’s Pop Diva Julie Anne San Jose; together with Journey Hosts Rita Daniela and Ken Chan.

JONG MADALIDAY
