UPDATES

GMA Commissions UHF TV Relay Station in Butuan City GMA continues to upgrade and expand its signal presence in the country, commissioning a new 5-kilowatt UHF TV relay station in Butuan City on September 4. The TV relay station enables the rebroadcast of programs emanating from the GMA Cagayan de Oro satellite station being freely received by viewers on Channel 26 using either an indoor or outdoor TV antenna.

Initial survey by the Network’s transmission team shows that GMA’s signal over Butuan and nearby areas is now better than ABS-CBN’s. “Our superior analog signal reinforces yet again our commitment to offer our programs to a wider audience,” says GMA Senior Vice President for Engineering Elvis B. Ancheta. With TV-26 Butuan, GMA now has 52 transmitting stations nationwide.

GMA Network Joins Youth Campaign Versus Climate Change

Gozon Welcomes DOJ Dismissal of Ang’s Complaint

GMA Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon

Atty. Felipe L. Gozon welcomes the Department of Justice’s dismissal of the complaint filed against him by Ramon S. Ang. (L-R) Dingdong Dantes of the National Youth Commission, Sec. Lucille Sering of the Climate Change Commission and GMA AVP for Corporate Affairs Teresa L. Pacis GMA Network has signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Climate Change Commission and the National Youth Commission to help spread the word about climate change, especially to the youth. According to GMA Assistant Vice President for Corporate Affairs, Ma Teresa L. Pacis, GMA supports initiatives that advocate for climate smart living, in keeping with its CSR platform, Kapuso Ng Kalikasan. Dingdong Dantes, Kapuso primetime king and a commissioner of the National Youth Commission, is also happy that his home network is onboard this meaningful campaign.

The settlement agreed upon by Ang and Gozon – through the efforts of a common friend – was reasonable and was mutually accepted by them. Ang received back his P1 billion from Gozon and, in return, Gozon received a substantial amount from Ang. The parties agreed to keep the details of their settlement confidential. Gozon said that there was clearly no basis for the charge of estafa – much less syndicated estafa – as there was absolutely no deception or fraud employed by the Gozon Group in the sale transaction of their GMA shares to Ang.

GMA GIVES Joins International Coastal Cleanup Day

In celebration of the 30th International Coastal Cleanup Day, the Kapuso Network’s corps of employee-volunteers, GMA G.I.V.E.S. (Guide, Interact, Volunteer, Educate, Serve), spent Saturday, September 19, collecting garbage along Manila Bay. This volunteer activity is also in line with GMA’s environmental platform, Kapuso ng Kalikasan. International Coastal Cleanup Day is observed every third Saturday of September in more than 100 countries all over the world.

Amputee Fisherman Receives Brand New Customized Wheelchair -by Gian Gabriela Manuel, GMA Kapuso Foundation Everyday, at the break of dawn, the Apatan children wake up to carry their father, Norman, from their house to his boat at the coastline of their hometown in Masinloc, Zambales. Norman, 39 years old, is a fisherman with amputated legs. Through fishing, Norman supports his family; his wife works as a manicurist to augment the family income. A chain smoker as a teenager, Norman contracted a rare illness, Buerger’s disease, which involves the inflammation and swelling of blood vessels. It affects the arteries and veins in the arms and legs and damages skin tissues, leading to infection and decomposition of the infested area. Smokers are more at risk of acquiring Buerger’s disease. 2015 marks the 10th year that Norman’s legs were amputated. He also lost several of his fingers due to the disease.

Despite his condition, Norman carries on, fulfilling his duties as the head of the family. He never gives up and strives to be the best husband and father that he could be. Captured by this inspiring life story is the strong will to get moving in life despite adversities. The GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) has always recognized such determination and supports the cause for underprivileged Filipinos with disabilities. On August 5, alongside 51 other beneficiaries, Norman was given a brand new customized wheelchair through GMAKF’s Wheelchair project, in partnership with Latter Day Saint Charities and NKD International Trading Corporation.
