DINNERKEYNOTE THEHON.CHRISBENTLEY | Minister of Energy Government of Ontario Chris was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003, 2007 and 2011. On October 20, 2011, Chris was appointed Minister of Energy. He has previously served as Attorney General, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, and Minister of Labour. Chris is a lawyer who practiced criminal and labour law for almost 25 years. For 10 of those years he also taught part-time at the University of Western Ontario Law School, where he helped to establish the Law School Careers Office. Active in the London community, Chris was the first chairperson and an organizing committee member of Neighbourhood Legal Services London and Middlesex, a legal clinic established in London to assist lowincome clients. Chris attended the University of Western Ontario and received his law degree from the University of Toronto Law School in 1979. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1981 and later obtained a masters-level degree from Cambridge University in England.
PCPARTYADDRESS TIMHUDAK | Leader of the Official Opposition PC Party of Ontario Tim was first elected as an MPP in 1995. He subsequently served as a Cabinet Minister for five years in three economic portfolios from northern development and mines to tourism to consumer and business services. In opposition, Tim served as Finance Critic for four years before he was elected Leader of the Ontario PC Party in June 2009. In the recent provincial election, Tim led the Ontario PC Party to its biggest election gain in seats since the 1995 election. Tim lives in Wellandport in his riding of Niagara West-Glanbrook where he makes it a priority to spend as much time as possible with his family – his wife Debbie and, the light of his life, his daughter Miller. Tim was born and raised in Fort Erie – a small border town on the Niagara Peninsula. Tim earned an Economics degree from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Washington.

MIKECRAWLEY | President International Power Canada Since 2002, Mike has overseen International Power Canada Inc.’s growth into a leading developer of wind power projects across four provinces in Canada. International Power Canada has financed and constructed projects in conjunction with the Ontario RES, Standard Offer and FIT procurement processes. Since February 2011, when International Power and GDF SUEZ Energy International combined to form the world’s largest independent power producer, International Power Canada’s portfolio has expanded to include the operation of seven wind farms totaling 363 MW in the Maritimes and Ontario. The company has another 307 MW of wind and solar generation projects under construction in Ontario and British Columbia. Mike has also served on the Ontario Government’s Electricity Conservation and Supply Task Force and was a co-chair of the Renewable Energy Task Team. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Association of Power Producers of Ontario and Clean Energy BC.
DAVIDMCFADDEN | Chair International, Partner Gowlings David is a partner in Gowlings’ Toronto office, Chair of the Firm’s International group, a member of the Firm’s Board of Trustees, Chair of Gowlings’ International Management Committee and of the Gowlings International Strategic Advisory Group (GISAG). David has extensive international experience, from clients investing or operating in Canada, Canadian clients investing or operating internationally or international clients abroad, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, financial services and aerospace industries. David acts for corporations, municipalities and utilities involved in the generation, distribution, marketing, transmission and financing of energy. He also acts for clients involved in infrastructure development, management and renewal. He has acted as counsel in a variety of infrastructure projects including toll highways and tunnels, light rail systems and health care facilities.
KARLJOHANNSON | Executive Vice President and PresidentNatural Gas Pipelines TransCanada Karl’s accountabilities include overall profitability of the AlbertaSystem, Canadian Mainline and Foothills System, as well as Trans Canada’s interest in the Trans Quebec & Maritimes Pipeline. Prior to joining Canadian Eastern U.S. Pipelines, Karl worked for over 16 years in the power business at TransCanada. Most recently holding the position of Senior Vice President, Canadian Power, where he was responsible for all activities relating to the management of TransCanada’s Canadian and western U.S. unregulated electricity businesses. Prior to joining the power business, Karl held several management and trading positions in energy marketing organizations including crude oil marketing and natural gas liquids trading. Karl holds a Master of Business Administration from the Haskayne School of Business and an Arts degree from the University of Calgary, and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s General Management program.

PETERWALLACE | Secretary of the Cabinet , Head Ontario Public Service, Government Of Ontario Peter became Secretary of the Cabinet, head of the Ontario Public Service and Clerk of the Executive Council on December 17, 2011. Peter was Deputy Minister of Finance for three years and, also served as Deputy Minister of Energy. Earlier, he was Deputy Minister and Associate Secretary of the Cabinet with responsibility for Policy in Cabinet Office. Peter’s career in the Ontario Public Service spans 30 years. His prior positions include Assistant Deputy Minister, Natural Resource Management, Ministry of Natural Resources; Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Strategic Planning, Cabinet Office; Assistant Deputy Minister, Program Management and Estimates Division, Management Board Secretariat; and Director, Expenditure Management and Reporting, Ministry of Finance. Peter began his public service career in 1981 after completing a BA (Honours) in Political Economy and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Toronto.
MODERATOR SEANCONWAY | Visiting Fellow Ryerson Centre for Urban Energy Sean joined the Centre for Urban Energy as a Distinguished Research Fellow in February 2012. As one of the longest serving Members of the Ontario Legislature, Sean has had an active interest in Ontario’s energy debate for over 30 years. Sean currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and is a Public Policy Advisor with the national law firm Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP. He is also a public affairs analyst on various television and radio programs. A graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and Queen’s University, Sean entered the Legislature in 1975 and served until his retirement in 2003. During that time, he was a member of several Select Committees on Energy. From 1985-1990, he served as Minister of Education in the Government of Premier David Peterson. Upon leaving the Legislature, Sean received the Churchill Society Award in the Cause of Parliamentary Democracy.

ECONOMICKEYNOTE DONROBERTS | Vice Chairman and Managing Director CIBC World Markets Inc. Don is a Managing Director with CIBC World Markets Inc. He is widely perceived as a global thought leader in both the forest products and bio-energy industries, and is now focusing on the emerging field of Clean Technology and Renewable Energy. He speaks frequently on topics related to these industries around the world, and advises senior executives in both the private and public sectors in Canada and abroad. From 1992-2008 Don led a team of financial analysts advising institutional investors on their investments in the global forest products industry. He was consistently ranked by institutional investor surveys as one of the top equity research analysts covering the forest products industry. Prior to joining the investment business, he was Chief Economist with the Canadian Forest Service.

EZRALEVANT | TV News Anchor and Columnist, Sun Media Author & Founder of Ethical Oil After graduating from law school, Ezra went to Ottawa as a parliamentary assistant to Preston Manning. It was to be the first of many romantic but doomed political campaigns. Ezra joined the editorial board of The National Post newspaper shortly after its founding. He covered national politics, the Supreme Court and the Middle East. In 2004, Ezra became the founding publisher of the Western Standard magazine, the only Canadian media outlet to publish the Danish cartoons of Mohammed. That led to two charges of “hate speech” before the Alberta government’s human rights commission. Ezra wrote a book about the experience, called Shakedown, which exposed the illiberal nature of Canadian human rights commissions. His new book, called Ethical Oil: The Case for Canada’s Oilsands, was published in September 2010 and won the National Business Book Award in Spring 2011. To the relief of his wife, Ezra finally got a real job this spring, when he joined the new Sun TV all-news channel as the host of a daily talk show called The Source.

ROBSILVER | Partner Crestview Strategy Rob Silver is a Toronto based lawyer, entrepreneur, consultant and political pundit. A partner at Crestview Strategies - a full service public affairs firm with offices in Ottawa and Toronto - Rob has advised national and multinational clients on a wide range of policy issues. His practice focuses primarily on the energy and infrastructure sectors where he has worked on a wide of large projects from nuclear power to natural gas plants, new transmission lines to one of the largest solar PV development in history. An active Liberal, Rob appears weekly on CBC’s Power and Politics (on the Power Panel). He is also a regular contributor for the Globe and Mail writing on Canadian politics and public policy.Rob received his law degree from the University of Western Ontario. While attending Western, Rob won two North American and two Canadian National debating championships - the only person to win both titles, twice.
BRADLAVIGNE | Former Principal Secretary to Jack Layton Canada’s NDP Brad was the New Democratic Party National Campaign Director for the May 2011 federal general election that resulted in the Party’s best election result in its 50-year history, gaining over 4.5 million votes and 103 seats, making the NDP Canada’s Official Opposition. Brad also served as the Principal Secretary to the Hon. Jack Layton while he was Opposition Leader. Between 2008 and 2011 Brad was the National Director of the NDP, overseeing the political and administrative operations of the federal party. From 2006 to 2009 Brad served as Director of Strategic Communications for Mr. Layton and from 2003 to 2006 as Director of Communications for the Party. Brad has been a regular columnist for the Hill Times Newspaper and a regular panelist on CBC News Network, CTV News Channel and CPAC.

Dario has worldwide responsibilities for IBM’s energy and natural resources research activities, leading a global team of researchers focused on accelerating industry transformation through breakthrough science and the systematic application of the latest advances in information technology. He is the founding Director of the Smarter Energy Research Institute (SERI), an international collaborative research consortia focused on advancing the utility of the future through the use of predictive analytics, optimization and advanced computation. An expert in the field of nano-technology, he is the author of numerous patents and over 20 publications in international journals and conferences. Dario is an elected member of the IBM Academy of Technology and received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
OEBADDRESS ROSEMARIELECLAIR | Chair and CEO Ontario Energy Board (OEB) Rosemarie T. Leclair was appointed Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Energy Board (the Board) on April 6, 2011. Ms. Leclair has spent almost 20 years in the municipal public sector. Her roles during that time included 15 years with the City of Ottawa, where she held several senior positions, including five years as Deputy City Manager of Public Works and Services. In 2005, Ms. Leclair joined the Hydro Ottawa Group of Companies (Hydro Ottawa) as President and CEO. She has also served as a Special Advisor to the Province of Ontario. Ms. Leclair has served on the Board of Directors for various energy associations along with the United Way/Centraide Ottawa. She is a member of the University of Ottawa’s Board of Governors, was twice named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network (2007 and 2010), and was recognized as an Honoured Champion by the United Nations Association in Canada on the occasion of International Women’s Day in 2009. Ms. Leclair earned a degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Ottawa and became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1985.

COLINANDERSEN | CEO Ontario Power Authority (OPA) Colin was appointed CEO of the Ontario Power Authority in September 2008. Prior to joining the OPA, Mr. Andersen held a variety of senior financial and policy positions in the Ontario Public Service, playing a lead role in asset management, infrastructure investments and intergovernmental negotiations. Most recently, he was Deputy Minister, Ontario Ministry of Finance; Secretary of the Treasury Board; Deputy Minister, Ontario Ministry of Revenue; Chair of the Ontario Financing Authority; and Chair of the Ontario Electricity Financial Corporation. Colin has a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary.

Laura was appointed President and CEO of Hydro One Inc., on November 23, 2007, having served as the company’s acting President and CEO of Hydro One Inc. since December 8, 2006. Hydro One is a holding company that operates through its subsidiaries in electricity transmission and distribution and telecom businesses. One of its subsidiaries, Hydro One Networks, is among the largest transmission companies in North America and owns and operates Ontario’s 29,000 km high-voltage network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities. Hydro One also owns and operates a 123,000 km lowvoltage system serving approximately 1.3 million end use customers. Laura joined Ontario Hydro in 1980, following her call to the Bar of Ontario. She practised law at Ontario Hydro and one of its successor companies, Hydro One Inc., and held progressively senior positions until being appointed Hydro One’s General Counsel and Secretary in 2003.

TOMMITCHELL | President and CEO Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Tom was appointed to his current position in April 2009. Prior to assuming his current position, he was Chief Nuclear Officer responsible for Darlington, Pickering A and Pickering B. He also served as Site Vice President and Senior Vice President, Pickering B. When Tom joined the OPG in April 2002, he was Vice President, Nuclear Operations and was responsible for providing support to the Pickering and Darlington nuclear stations. Tom has over 35 years of nuclear experience. Before joining OPG, he held the position of Vice President of the Assistance Division of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) in Atlanta, Georgia. Tom is the Chair of the WANO Atlanta Centre Governing Board, and by virtue of that appointment, is a member of the (WANO) World Association of Nuclear Operators Governing Board in London, U.K. Tom also serves on the Board of Directors of the Electric Power Research Institute.
KIMWARREN | Vice President, Operations and COO Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) Kim was appointed Vice President, Operations and Chief Operating Officer in May 2011. In this role, Kim is responsible for managing the operation of Ontario’s competitive wholesale electricity market and for directing the operation of the IESO-controlled grid. With over 30 years experience in the Ontario electricity industry, Kim recently served as Director of Planning and Assessments where he directed the development of operating policies, reliability standards, system operating limits and grid connections associated with interconnected power system operations. He was also responsible for the IESO’s power system reliability reporting obligations and Ontario’s interactions with NERC, NPCC and our interconnected neighbours.

CANCELLATIONPOLICY: Cancellations & Refunds. In the event that the delegate wishes to cancel their registration, the delegate may make a written request and the OEA may grant a cancellation, provided; (i) the OEA is not required to refund any portion of moneys previously paid. (ii) if the delegate’s cancellation request is received before the final cancellation date (October 8, 2012), the delegate agrees to pay a cancellation fee of 50% of total registration fee(s) before such cancellation will become effective. (iii) if the delegate’s cancellation request is received after the final cancellation date, the delegate agrees to pay the full delegate registration fee based on the original registration application.Transfer or Change of Registration. If the delegate requests a transfer or change of their registration, the OEA will use its best efforts to accommodate the delegate. All transfers and changes must be requested in writing and addressed to the OEA at events@energyontario.ca. All transfers and/or changes must be received by October 8, 2012.
