Michelle Rizzo
Sharing in a special dining history Sales and marketing manager Michelle Rizzo has been part of the fabric of Lawry’s The Prime Rib for more than a dozen years. “It’s dinner and a show,” says Rizzo. “Expert carvers carve the prime rib tableside from the gleaming silver carts. The carts are also known as the ‘Cadillac of serving carts’ because they cost almost the price of a Cadillac to make them.” And when it comes to celebrating special occasions and throwing parties at Lawry’s, that’s where Rizzo steps in, helping create those memories. Rizzo has been in the industry since she was 16, working as a server in her home state of Iowa. A few months after landing here in 1995, she joined Morton’s The Steakhouse, where after three years she was promoted from server to associate sales and marketing manager. After 12 years there, she joined Lawry’s to continue her career. “I love the restaurant industry, period. It’s exciting. It’s my job basically to put butts in seats,” she says, laughing. In other words, she’s helping generate revenue for the restaurant. “You have to have a strong work ethic to work in a restaurant,” she says. “You really, really do. If you’re lazy, it’s not going to work. You have to have hospitality. Relationship building is really important, especially in my position—it’s those relationships and the referrals you receive. Chris Gutierrez
Bar manager is the spirit behind the spirits Want to immerse yourself in Las Vegas’ downtown cocktail scene and its supporting cast? The place would be Corduroy, and the person to visit with is bar manager Chris Gutierrez. Born in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Gutierrez says he was raised all over the country, anywhere that was a gaming town—Atlantic City, New Orleans, Detroit—as his father was in the gaming business. Vegas was the last city they landed in, and it’s where Gutierrez began his career in bartending more than 15 years ago. Gutierrez is an integral part of downtown’s renaissance, spending time behind the bar first at Gold Spike and helping to relaunch the hot spot when Tony Hsieh and the Downtown Project, now known as DTP, injected money and a rebirth of arts and culture into the area. Gutierrez then went on to open Oak & Ivy at Container Park and then, three years ago, Corduroy. “I think Las Vegas is the coolest for cocktails. Vegas is positioned in an awesome place where we can essentially show what we can do to the world, because the world walks up and down the street right here,” he says. And at Corduroy, “Our drinks and the quality of them are a cool addendum to what’s already a fun experience. I try to be as approachable and relatable as I can be. If I don’t come from the heart with what I’m doing, it’s never worked

It’s kind of a weird collection. It’s what we believe in— we believe it’s the best of all worlds.” –KM

You’ll probably find extra towels in your room, and can always request more if needed. You may not find little bottles of amenities but amenities are still available. Housekeeping and other guest services may not be entering your room unless requested, and at some hotels, won’t be entering during your stay.

OK! It’s time to release a little tension. While you’re here, you’ll see social distancing measures, such as slot machines not being available next to each other, congregating behind people not allowed, limited players at tables and plexiglass between dealers and players. You may need to step away if you need to smoke. Casinos are required to disinfect items needed for play, such as chips, cards, balls and dice.
Although venues may differ, most will implement 25-foot spacing between performers and audience members and space between each party to encourage social distancing. Masks are mandatory. There is a limit to the number of people allowed in the venue, per current Nevada rules.
Most restaurants require reservations, and will text or call when the table is ready. Wear your mask until reaching the table. Tables have 6 feet between them. Menus may be digital or one-time use. Permanent ones are sanitized between each use. Condiments are often on request, and sanitized between use. Bars will space patrons’ parties 6 feet apart.

It helps stem the spread of potentially deadly viruses like COVID-19. It’s also considerate of fellow guests and resort workers.
You’ll notice hand sanitizer stations. Give yourself a squirt before and after playing slots or the tables, and anywhere it seems you might need it (after touching elevator buttons, holding escalator rails or getting money from the ATM). If you start to feel sick, get it checked out. Many hotels have medical profes-
sionals on-site or can get you medical help quickly. Practice social distancing. Stay 6 feet from people other than travel companions whenever possible. Places where lines commonly form will be marked. Be patient—even though you are 6 feet apart, you’ll still be moving. Try not to touch your face.
Periodically, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, then rinse for 10 seconds. You may also receive personal size bottles of hand sanitizer in your room or when you check in. Take those with you and use whenever it’s not practical to wash, or a hand sanitizer station isn’t close.
