NOTES
From the Editor Game Time
Super Bowl week in Las Vegas has long been something special, but it takes on so much more significance for our city this year: In 2024, Las Vegas will host it. In other words, however you’re currently choosing to enjoy the game of the year at your venue of choice, take that experience and imagine it amplified tenfold. Because no town knows how to party like Las Vegas, and there’s no greater annual sporting event in American history than the Super Bowl. Combine the two and ... well, let’s just say you may want to begin making your 2024 Las Vegas plans right now. But in the meantime, just in case you haven’t yet figured out how you want to let loose with your tailgating buddies for Super Bowl LVI, we’ve collected some options in this week’s issue (“Game Plan,” p. 32). There are packages for groups of all sizes and budgets. Just remember: Whatever you decide on, reservations are strongly encouraged. To really help you get in a Vegas frame of mind while you’re waiting for Sunday, we’ve got plenty of live music options in this week’s issue, including the return of Barry Manilow to his residency at Westgate Las Vegas (“The Hit Parade,” p. 30); the beginning of Luke Bryan’s residency at Resorts World Las Vegas, the newest property on the Las Vegas Strip (“The Road to
Vegas,” p. 36); The Black Crowes’ return to the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay (“Back for More,” p. 34); and The Grass Roots’ return to The Golden Nugget (“Consistent Change,” p. 14). Of course, you’ll want to make sure to keep fueled up while enjoying yourself this week. We’ve packed this issue with dining favorites like Hakkasan at MGM Grand (“Go East,” p. 9); One Steakhouse at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas (“Quality and Tradition,” p. 49); Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace (“Time to Celebrate,” p. 17); Michael Mina at Bellagio (“Go Fish!” p. 24); Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar at The Linq Hotel (“Over-the-Top Creations,” p. 10); and Border Grill at Mandalay Bay (“A Hot Time,” p. 11). And you can’t have a Vegas experience without visiting a great bar (or two). Start your journey at Coyote Ugly at New York-New York, a recipient of a Las Vegas Magazine Hall of Fame honor this year (“A Bar With Spirit,” p. 12), and then check out our feature on cigar lounge options around town (“Light It Up,” p. 22). Enjoy the big game, enjoy Las Vegas, and enjoy the insider tips you’ll find in this week’s issue of Las Vegas Magazine. Our city continues to grow and expand its entertainment options, and no publication keeps you in the know better.

this one). And on the side, Hong Kong fried rice incorporates shrimp and pork along with asparagus, yellow chives and a wok-fried egg. For the vegans in the group, Hakkasan has a good range of items, each denoted on the menu, including a vegan hot and sour soup. Yum! –Nina King

The fun never stops at celebrity chef’s restaurant The main dining room at Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar is the perfect place to enjoy a comfort food feast: Open air, full of light and punctuated by red brick. There’s also a large bar area where you can gather with friends and just enjoy a pint—or one of Fieri’s amazing signature cocktails, including the famous BBQ Bloody Mary, made with Tito’s Handmade Vodka, candied bacon, beef jerky and a veggie skewer, all flavored with house-made Bloody Mary mix (which includes Guy’s bourbon brown sugar barbecue sauce and Guy’s Buffalo Sauce). This is almost as much a meal as it is a drink! You’ll want to keep the party going with any number of sides. Flavor dominates every edge

of this part of the menu, especially the andouille sausage-and-cheese-stuffed jalapeño poppers, wrapped in maple bacon, smoked and glazed with that aforementioned barbecue sauce. A house-made ranch dip really goes well with this! And for a real head-turner, order the Trash Can Nachos. Your dish arrives in a tall metal pitcher with a removable bottom. One pull of the trigger and the whole mess slides onto a plate. There’s more of the Fieri smoke to this app, thanks to house-smoked pork, and SMC (super melty cheese) makes its first appearance here. Its second appearance? On the famous (infamous?) Bacon Mac ’N’ Cheeseburger, an award-winning beast that begs to be ordered.
You get a huge patty for starters, on top of which Fieri piles SMC, donkey sauce (you’ll love it!), applewood bacon, six-cheese mac and cheese, onion straws and the usual suspects of lettuce, tomato and onion, on a garlic-buttered brioche bun. Another showstopper is the Motley Que pulled pork sandwich (you know it from Diners, DriveIns and Dives), which features the return of that bourbon brown sugar barbecue sauce and is piled with citrus slaw, pickle chips and donkey sauce on a toasted pretzel bun. We hope you saved your appetite, because this will require every last bit of it. –Ken Miller The Linq Hotel 702.794.3139

Something for All It’s over the top. It’s mind-blowing. It’s equal parts scary and funny. What we’re trying to say is that you won’t soon forget Criss Angel MINDFREAK once you’ve experienced it. The master illusionist was wellknown to millions for his extreme stunts on television. This Las Vegas production turns that all up to 11. A live rock band keeps the energy high during the entire show, during which Angel re-creates a fight scene from a video game, saws a woman in half (in the craziest way you’ve ever seen), walks on air and reads minds, all with a wink and a nod to the audience—Angel is clearly having fun here, especially when he brings volunteers onto the stage to reveal their greatest fears. But as edgy as the show can get, it has a softer side as well. Angel is deeply involved in charitable causes, and uses part of his show to raise awareness of how necessary it is to help the less fortunate. Regardless of your views on magic, there really is something for everyone in this production. You’ll feel like you know more about the world we live in after seeing it. –Ken Miller Planet Hollywood Resort, 702.777.2782
Putt All Nite Enjoy some of the greatest music by one of the world’s greatest rock bands while enjoying some quality family time at KISS by Monster Mini Golf, which offers a fun time for all skill levels across cleverly designed courses, all with a KISS theme (including a large Gene Simmons tongue!). And after besting your family members in a game, check out the gift shop and arcade, including—naturally—a KISS pinball machine. There’s even a themed wedding chapel, if spending your special day on the course is your dream. –Ken Miller Rio, 702.558.6256
A Hot Time Fans of Mexican food will have a hard time finding much better than Border Grill at Mandalay Bay, tucked away on the way to the Convention Center and Shark Reef with a fabulous patio. The guac is delightful, but the queso fundido may just make you consider ordering another batch before your entrée arrives. The crispy potato and ceviche tacos come with raja peppers, those oh-so-delicious yet-oh-so-spicy morsels. Ceviches can be

found in several forms here, from the classic dish to tacos and tostadas. Vegans will dig the rainbow cauliflower tacos with red quinoa and smoked paprika, while carnivores have a choice of carne asada, vampiro shrimp and carnitas tacos plus arbol chicken quesadillas and grilled skirt steak. And there are plenty of margaritas, cocktails and sangria, so you’ll have something to mitigate the spiciness. –Nina King Mandalay Bay, 702.632.7403

A Bar With Spirit
Saloon serves up attitude—with a smile On Jan. 27, 1993, Liliana Lovell opened the doors to the first Coyote Ugly on Manhattan’s 1st Avenue, unleashing a chain of events that would result in a movie based on her bar and second location in the heart of Las Vegas that became an immediate hit. The party continues in the present at the Vegas venue, which in November celebrates 21 years of serving shots and bar top hijinks on the second level of New York-New York. On Friday and Saturday evenings beginning at 9 p.m., Coyote Ugly guarantees a good time on the Strip. Lovell’s blueprint for a successful bar started when she discovered she had a knack for making

money in the bar business. A Catholic school girl turned New York University student, Lovell found that after a few drinks she was uninhibited enough to jump on the bar and sing along with the jukebox. The bar owner found drink sales increased with Lovell’s enthusiasm. After a post-college stint working on Wall Street, she realized she felt more comfortable and made more money behind the bar. When an opportunity to become a partner in what would become Coyote Ugly presented itself, it seemed like destiny. Her modus operandi became the way of the Coyote Ugly bartender: sassing customers, challenging them to drinking contests and
dancing on bars to country music while looking great doing it. Asking for a frozen drink will likely result in a friendly insult followed by a challenge to drink Wild Turkey. As the place fills, the fun really begins. No one can quite match Lovell when it comes to singing, dancing and egging on the crowd, but she certainly knows how to bring the best out of bartenders, whether they’re slinging drinks in New York, Las Vegas or any of the more than 20 other Coyote Ugly outposts around the world. If you haven’t experienced the fun for yourself, now is the perfect time. –Matt Kelemen New York-New York, 702.740.6330

Nothing But the Truth When you go see Eddie Griffin perform at his reopened stand-up comedy residency at Sahara Las Vegas, you better be ready. The veteran funnyman has never shied away from controversial topics over the course of his 30-year-plus career, and he’s not about to change. Griffin has maintained a Las Vegas residency for years at the Rio and then SLS Las Vegas, which transformed into the Sahara Las Vegas in late 2019 but wisely held onto their in-house comedy star. For now, he’s performing at the new Magic Mike Live Theater until the under-construction larger theater space is ready for his show. Griffin has always been known for pulling no punches, and that’s not about to change. “I’m sure I’ve missed out on quite a few films because of my nonconformity,” Griffin told Las Vegas Magazine. “But it’s comedy, damn it. It’s not called the serious show, it’s called a comedy show, and people who (get offended) are people who take their own position in life too seriously. It’s a short trip we have on this marble, flying through space at hyper speed. It’s quick and then it’s over.” –Brock Radke Sahara Las Vegas, 21+. 702.761.7000
Crustacean Cravings? If you’re in the mood for lobster while in Vegas but don’t want to shell out tons of cash on a fancy dinner, then head to Lobster ME, a casual eatery that serves up fresh lobster and other seafood specialties like crab and shrimp. The signature lobster rolls are the main attraction, such as the Maine Roll, which is slathered with mayo and a special seasoning, but you’ll also find comfort foods like the delectable lobster grilled cheese. Warm the soul with a cup of New England clam chowder, or break your diet with the lobster- and crab-loaded fries. –Ken Miller Miracle Mile Shops at Plant Hollywood Resort, 702.562.7837

Consistent Change Usually, if a band is touring without any of its original members, it’s a sign that something vital has been lost. But with vintage pop-rock band The Grass Roots, an ever-changing lineup has been part of the group’s essence since its earliest days. The Grass Roots, appearing at the Golden Nugget on Feb. 11, was initially conceived not by the performers audiences saw onstage, but by the songwriting team of P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, who penned “Where Were You When I Needed You,” first released in 1965. Vocalist and bassist Rob Grill, who joined the band in 1967, eventually became the band’s driving force, starting at the height of the group’s success in the late ’60s and early ’70s, with hit singles including “Let’s Live for Today,” “Midnight Confessions” and “Sooner or Later.” Through the decades, The Grass Roots has featured literally dozens of members, including future The Office star Creed Bratton. The band’s current lineup may not be original, but in a way, that’s how you know they’re authentically The Grass Roots. –Josh Bell Golden Nugget, 800.745.3000 Ticketmaster

For a real dish delight, and one that’s on the healthy tip, the egg white omelet deserves serious praise for its combination of egg whites, turkey bacon, artichoke, arugula and caramelized onions and goat cheese. The smashed organic avocado toast packs a powerful flavor punch, too, with a great heaping helping of avocados on sourdough bread and topped with sweet

Celebrating the art of noodles Growing up in Taiwan, Christine Huang learned how to make noodles and dumplings from her family, a tradition passed down through the generations. Today, halfway around the world, general manager Huang now oversees fresh noodles and dumplings being made inside the exhibition kitchen at The Noodle Den at Sahara Las Vegas. “Our guests can see the noodle show every day,” Huang says. “(Chefs) perform every day. It’s very unique skills they have. It’s almost like watching a work of art every day—watching the chefs cook and the noodle making process.” Huang joined Sahara in the fall of last year, and has a long history in the Las Vegas food and beverage industry. Moving to town in her teens, she studied food and beverage and culinary arts at UNLV and after graduation helped manage some of the Strip’s finest sushi and Chinese restaurants at properties including Mandalay Bay, Caesars Palace and The STRAT.
“My heart has always been in food and beverage,” she says. “And, in Las Vegas there is so much opportunity for a career in the industry.” As general manager of The Noodle Den it’s Huang’s responsibility to take care of the dayto-day operations, help with hiring and training, take care of customers and work as a liaison between the front and back of the house—it helps that she’s fluent in Mandarin and English, too, allowing the chefs to communicate with the rest of the staff and the customers. “The Noodle Den uses both tradition and fusion in Chinese Northern-style cooking,” she says. “We make four types of noodles everyday: hand-pulled noodle, hand-sliced noodle, cat-ear noodle and belt noodle. You can see all of them being made through our show kitchen.” Huang herself continues to pass on the noodle- and dumpling-making traditions to her own daughter now. “My family still gets together to make noodles and dumplings.” –Kiko Miyasato

CHEERS NOSH
Michael Mina is a seafood lover’s dream
By Ken Miller
It feels counterintuitive, but some of the best seafood in the nation can be found in the desert—namely Las Vegas and the various Strip restaurants that specialize in the ocean’s bounty. One of the best in that category is easily Michael Mina, the eponymous restaurant of the chef who has all but dominated the Strip (in addition to this gem, he also owns and operates

The location couldn’t be better—nestled right next to the Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, changing with the seasons and always bustling with selfie-taking tourists. You’re guaranteed great people-watching as you have a cocktail at the bar or sit in the impeccably appointed main area. Raising the restaurant’s level even higher is the arrival of executive chef Raj Dixit, who has worked across the globe. He’s been with the Mina Group since 2012 and worked most recently at Michael Mina San Francisco. His experiences and influences can be found all over the newest Michael Mina menu; you are in for a treat. Starters are all uniformly light and uniformly delicious. Amberjack crudo absolutely pops, thanks to the addition of preserved lemon, capers and crispy artichokes, while grilled octopus is one of the best versions you’ll ever try, served with a scallion-kimchi pancake, spring onion vinaigrette and chrysanthemum. And wait until you take a bite out of the crispy spot prawns from Santa Barbara, so succulent and served with young coconut, makrut lime, sweet and sour mango and curry leaf. A real treat before diving into your main course is the roasted Hudson Valley foie gras, a revelation for fans of the liver delicacy, served with toasted brioche, hazelnuts, Burgundy truffle and black cherry. over rigatoni and the double wide-cut fettucine with alfredo sauce. Others experiment with fun and creative flavors, including brown butter cheese ravioli with fresh basil, and spinach pappardelle with shrimp and feta. Don’t worry, there are no bad choices at the Pasta Shop. At the brand-new Harlo Steakhouse & Bar (702.333.0402) at Downtown Summerlin, chef Gina Marinelli—whose incredible, authentic pasta dishes have been sampled and savored at her nearby La Strega restaurant—is letting prime beef shine in the spotlight, naturally. But she’s decorating the menu with other signatures like truffle ricotta raviolini with maitake mushrooms, spicy puttanesca rigatoni, and gemelli with cauliflower and gorgonzola. The downtown pasta hot spot is still Esther’s Kitchen (702.570.7864), the seasonally driven Italian eatery where new and different ingredients guide the way. These days, you’ll want to indulge in hand-rolled tagliatelle in lamb shank ragu, ricotta gnudi with roasted beets and pistachio pesto, and tortellini with broccoli, pork sugo, truffles and pecorino cheese. Similarly, Locale Italian Kitchen (702.330.0404), a neighborhood favorite in the southwest valley, makes its own fresh gnocchi, cavatelli, orecchiette and pappardelle daily, and also serves up everybody’s favorites like spaghetti and meatballs and spicy shrimp fra diavolo. There are plentiful pasta palaces on the Las Vegas Strip, but one Italian restaurant that doesn’t get the credit it deserves is Buddy V’s Ristorante (702.607.2355), the first restaurant concept from TV’s “Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro. This expansive dining room located at The Venetian dishes up some of the best bucatini carbonara, rigatoni alla vodka and linguine and clams available anywhere in the city. At the magnificent and sprawling Eataly Las Vegas (702.730.7010) at Park MGM, there are at least two venues where different pasta dishes are ready and waiting. Sample staples like bucatini alla amatriciana and spaghetti cacio e pepe at the casual La Pizza & La Pasta, or visit La Pasta Fresca Market & Kitchen in the bustling La Cucina del Mercato marketplace, where you can watch pasta makers roll and cut different varieties right in front of your eyes before pairing them with regional-specific sauces and ingredients and a glass of wine. It’s a multitude of experiences in one setting, but most importantly, the pasta is delicious. –Brock Radke

Barry Manilow brings a lifetime of entertainment to Westgate stage

When you are talking about Barry Manilow’s accomplishments, it’s hard to know quite where to start. You could begin in New York in the 1960s, when he started in his teens, turning out a score for a play. You might end in the 2020s, where he has a multiyear residency at Westgate Las Vegas. But there’s so much in between to touch on. That first play score was at his CBS job, where he was soon writing and singing jingles for commercials, and that’s where many fans first heard his voice, in Band-Aid and State Farm ads. That era ended as Manilow was signed to his first record company, and his work there led to his performing with Bette Midler and album releases throughout the ’70s, with his first No. 1 hit, “Mandy,” in 1975, which embedded itself in fans’ consciousness. Manilow’s star continued to shine with albums like Tryin’ to Get the Feeling (with “I Write the Songs”); This One’s for You (with “Looks Like We Made It”); and Even Now (with “Copacabana” and “Ready to Take a Chance Again);” TV specials; touring and selling out concerts. He had much success throughout the rest of the decade, culminating in a Greatest Hits album. He released another 12 albums in the 1980s and ’90s, playing with different styles, from swing and show tunes to ’70s covers. In betwixt those albums, he did so much more, producing albums for stars like Midler, Dionne Warwick, Nancy Wilson and Sarah Vaughn. When he entered the new millennium, Manilow also entered a new age of residencies, in Las Vegas in particular, where he played at the Paris in a long-running engagement, and on the International Theater stage, where his Westgate residency continues this week. An extension of Manilow: Las Vegas—The Hits Come Home into 2023 was announced last fall, complete with a flash mob dancing to “Copacabana” in front of the resort. (That extension means he’ll have appeared there more than Elvis Presley!) At the time, Manilow said, “I love it here. Westgate Las Vegas is my home away from home and I look forward to performing here for a long, long time.” When you attend one of those shows at the Westgate, you are in for a treat, because Manilow touches on all those eras in The Hits Come Home. Not only will you hear “Mandy” and “Copacabana,” as well as many other songs, you’ll be treated to a retrospective, where Manilow talks a bit about the phases in his career. In addition, videos, dancers, singers and an ascending catwalk that stretches over the audience all contribute to this production, which has the feel of a mini-Broadway show. And that all adds up to a great time, not only for the Barry faithful known as Fanilows, but to anyone who enters the theater.

Black Crowes flying into Vegas for new shows 34

The reunited Black Crowes had so much fun bringing their 30th anniversary Shake Your Money Maker tour to the House of Blues in Las Vegas in November, they’re coming back for more. Brothers Chris and Rich Robinson and their band will be back at the Mandalay Bay music hall Feb. 11-12, reigniting their fans’ passion for a uniquely soulful brand of blues-rock. In this conversation from those fall 2021 shows, Chris Robinson spoke about returning to live shows after the pandemic delayed the Crowes’ comeback, creating new music with his lifelong writing partner and brother, and lots more.
The Black Crowes have never really revisited this material like this. How does it feel to really dig into these songs that are so beloved by fans 30 years later? We are a band that has spent a lot of time experimenting and being expansive in what we wanted our presentation to be, to put our passion and energy into focusing on playing “Shake Your Money Maker” every night, it just feels like we got better every night. And what a different mindset, not just to celebrate that record, but to have this new entrance into what we’ve been through. It’s a celebration of all the things Rich and I have done.
What was it like to finally get out on the road again and fulfill these tour plans? A global killer virus will dampen any weekend, to say the least, so of course it was a lot. By the time Rich and I were on the same page to do it and we put a great band together … and then to put it on the back burner (because of the pandemic), that was frustrating. But it’s not like only our band had to deal with it; it’s been so tough for millions of people. To finally get out there and do exactly what we wanted to do—all the loud guitars in this era where there’s a lack of rock ’n’ roll—to do something that’s really alive and kind of woolly and wild, it’s amazing.
What drives that ambition to sort of move away from some of your earliest material and continue to experiment? We didn’t want to fall into the trap of making the same album many times over. That might work for some bands, but not others. The Rolling Stones never made the same record twice. During our time apart, Rich and I had in our own solo worlds, I wandered off into the hippie wilderness and Rich was doing his thing, and at some point, those things coalesced, and my interest came back to the rock ’n’ roll side of things. When we started out, we felt passionate about something that was not very cool in 1989, and it was about what

we were going to do in the face of all that other (stuff) that was going on in music. And I think we kind of feel like that again. You’ve been working with your brother on new music as well, and that has fans wondering if there will be a new Black Crowes album. What kind of sounds are you coming up with? We’ve written some songs but I think our focus is still on (the tour). We’re sitting on some tunes and we’re going to write more, but we don’t have plans to make a record. It’s very cool stuff. In a sense, doing “Shake Your Money Maker” again opened it up, got us thinking, let’s just have fun and do it while we still can, make music that has this kind of energy. How has your creative process changed through the years? No matter what we’ve been through, the writing is always just me and (Rich). There weren’t other guys or producers around; we were always left to our own to do the composition, and that would be the time we never really argued or got into fights. Rich plays me something that sparks something or inspires me, and it can be any little thing that dictates where the lyrics and melodies come from. That’s just always been there for us, and we’re lucky that way.

For Luke Bryan fans, all dirt roads lead to the Strip this month (Feb. 11-12,16, 18-20, 23 & 25-26) for the kickoff of the reigning king of country’s new residency, Luke Bryan: Vegas. Bryan joins a roster of A-list headliners with extended engagements at The Resorts World Theatre including Katy Perry, Carrie Underwood and Michael Bublé, placing him in the pantheon of popular music’s top entertainers. His ascension comes without
compromise, and Bryan seems to be handling it with customary ease. The son of a Leesburg, Ga., peanut farmer who became an American Idol judge has become an American idol in his own right, with a 2021 five-part IMDb docuseries My Dirt Road Diary giving him even more exposure. Bryan has “it” like Elvis Presley had “it,” and is poised to rule in Las Vegas much like Presley did in his prime.

Bryan’s only problem is having more No. 1 hits than time to perform them all in one night. Still, his setlists will be career-spanning, from his first major single, 2007’s “All My Friends Say,” to his latest No. 1 Country Airplay hit, “Waves,” from last year’s Born Here Live Here Die Here album. Bryan found his direction in life early, segueing from sports to singing by his mid-teens. His voice comfortably wrapped around
songs by George Strait, Alan Jackson and Clint Black, whose 1989 hit “Killin’ Time” stoked his desire to become a musician. His older brother Chris Bryan’s breathless description of the audience’s enthusiastic response at a Garth Brooks concert cemented his desire to perform and similarly stir arenas full of fans. such as current lead guitarist and bandleader Michael Carter. A decision to take drama in his senior year of high school and performing in Annie Get Your Gun increased his performing confidence and made him stage savvy. His family was super supportive, but just as Bryan was ready to hit Nashville, Chris was killed in a car accident. Bryan decided to stay home and attend college until his father told him to pack his bags and get to Music City before it was too late. Seasoned and serious, Bryan established himself as a songwriter before penning his own hits. He scored his first No. 1 in 2010 with “Rain Is a Good Thing,” one of his personal favorites. The chart-toppers kept coming, with songs from current set closer “I Don’t Want This Night to End” from 2011 to 2020’s “One Margarita” and “Down to One,” each spending more than six months on the charts. He has a knack for painting vivid scenes lyrically as well as pumping out party anthems par excellence, and his creative well seems inexhaustible. Luke Bryan: Vegas positions Bryan to take his career to the next level, expanding well beyond his huge country audience and firming up his stature as a mainstream star. Expect most every seat in the house at Resorts World Theatre to be filled with the possible exception of one. That would be reserved for Bryan’s late brother, the inspiration behind his latest single, “Songs You Never Heard.”

If you are staying at The Palazzo, for instance, Illy Cafe is on the way to Restaurant Row, and the killer Go Greek yogurt place (opens at 9 a.m.) is right behind the escalators to the shopping complex in the same general area if you need a little morning pick-me-up. 9:45 a.m.: Head to your 10 a.m. brunch at Chica in The Venetian. This restaurant was remodeled this fall, with new décor reflecting a Miami vibe (Chica has locations in Miami and Aspen, Colo., currently) and new dishes. You’ll want to try out the eggs Benedict cazuela (pictured). With an 8:30 a.m. opening time, it’s tempting to
make an early reservation and spend a little more quality time with a quality cocktail like the Bloody Mary, jazzed up with chipotle and ancho chili flavors. Really, though, all the cocktails are freaking good. Noon-2 p.m.: We know, two hours is not enough time to do all the shopping you want, but it can get you started. Staging the bedroom is a key component of selling your home You’ve made the decision to sell your home. of the most important: The bedroom. This issue, Las Vegas Magazine’s Ken Miller interviewed Heidi Carlsen, lead interior designer with Stately Home Staging, to get some answers that will hopefully help you make a more informed decision when you are selling your property.
Why is the bedroom so important to stage when selling a home? The bedroom is typically one of the top priorities for homeowners because there’s so much time spent in the bedroom. Many people look at bedrooms, especially the primary bedroom, as a sanctuary—a place where you’re able to step

away, relax and unwind from your day. I’ve found that plenty of home sellers are focused on staging a bedroom because it’s easy for potential homebuyers to overthink how they’ll fit a kingsize bed, or generally lay out the space. Often, doorways and windows act as visual blockers, and many times it can be difficult for people to come up with functional ways to arrange their bedroom furniture. It’s the job of a good home-staging expert to solve for those hurdles and show how effective, inviting or cozy a space can really be. What are the most important things to remember in staging the bedroom? It’s essential to keep it super clean, very simple. And no clutter! Typically, a primary bedroom should be staged slightly more sophisticated, so that people can really visualize themselves living in the space. I always go as symmetrical as possible, which tends to be very appealing to the eye. For instance, placing nightstands on each side with matching lamps helps keep everything clean and simple. Always with every other room, try and use as much natural light as possible. And if that’s not available, lamps can really soften up a space. Use of mirrors can always make a space feel larger, and adding greenery (like trees or large botanicals) into the room can make the space feel more welcoming. What kind of design facets are important to consider in the bedroom apart from other areas of a house? Design-wise, continue to consider this space a homeowner’s refuge. I advise using softer colors and a lot of neutrals in mind. It’s a good idea to typically not go over the top with bright colors, just because you’ll want to provide a feeling of relaxation. What type of trends do you anticipate for the rest of 2022? Apart from the staging business, there are a few interior design choices that I don’t see going anywhere. The use of wallpaper, or 3D accent walls that sit behind the bed space, will most likely continue to be popular this year. There’s a big trend right now with Neotenic Design, which was defined in 2019. Popularized in artistic design circles, the style uses juvenile features with soft edges and inorganic shapes.

Quality and Tradition David and Michael Morton’s MB Steakhouse at the Hard Rock Hotel was one of the premier dining destinations in Las Vegas, and that quality and tradition continues at One Steakhouse (Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, 702.693.5000), at the renamed hotel.
Dishes here will be instantly recognizable to fans of MB Steak, from appetizers like the lobster bisque—so flavorful with brandy, tarragon and crème fraiche—to charred Spanish octopus, served with broccolini, stewed tomatoes and port wine. Steaks are all from
select Midwestern ranchers and include classics like a 16-ounce bone-in filet mignon, 18-ounce ribeye and the Tomahawk feast, a 16-pound cut of USDA Prime that serves 10 to 12 people (this baby must be ordered with 72 hours advance notice). –Ken Miller
