NOTES
From the Editor The Gloves Come On
Our city’s connection with boxing is undeniable. We’ve hosted some of the most legendary fights in the sport’s history: Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo in 2005; Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield in 1992; and especially Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns in 1981. Any fight week in Las Vegas draws an enormous crowd, and not just because of the fight itself; it’s a perfect excuse to come and enjoy everything the city has to offer. You’ll see a great bout, sure, but you’ll also have a great meal, see some world-class shows and experience some only-in-Vegas attractions. This week’s “excuse” is a showdown between two undefeated fighters, Óscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson, who will seek to unify their respective 130-pound limit championships at the MGM Grand Garden Arena (“Best in Class,” p. 30). There’s not likely to be a boring second in this highly anticipated fight. Many of you may also be in town for the NFL draft, one of the biggest events likely to be held in Las Vegas this year. And this week’s issue highlights some of the best venues on the Las Vegas Strip to watch all the action (“Take Your Pick” p. 32). You’ll notice in my Editor’s Note photo that I look very relaxed and very happy. That’s because it was taken at a media event in which we were flown by helicop-
ter into the base of the Grand Canyon. If you’ve never been to this natural wonder, you really need to do something about that, and this is the perfect time of year to do so. In this issue, managing editor Nina King has assembled a variety of Grand Canyon-from-Vegas options, depending on the amount of time you have to spend there (“Wonders Never Cease,” p. 34). Fans of America’s Got Talent will be happy to know that singing ventriloquist Darci Lynne, who won season 12, is hitting the Strip in her own show at The Mirage (“Throwing Herself Into the Art,” p. 12). Resorts World Las Vegas continues to add to its killer lineup of performers, highlighted this week by Michael Bublé (“Songs That Move You,” p. 14). And this week, longtime Strip headliner Frank Marino hosts his very own Red Carpet Brunch at Westgate Las Vegas (“Star Treatment,” p. 11). Las Vegas is opening new venues in the coming weeks and months, and one of the most exciting is Lisa Vanderpump’s expansion of her empire, Vanderpump á Paris at, of course Paris (“Parisian Delights,” p. 17). From decor to drinks and light bites, this is definitely a venue you want to check out! This week’s Vegas action is almost certain to be one for the history books. And you’ll be able to say you were there. While having the time of your life, of course.

The Magic of Funny
Family show blends illusions with comedy When a show opens with the tune “If You’re Happy and You Know It” blasting through the speakers, there’s a certain silliness and enjoyment that takes over—and this silliness and enjoyment is a high that lasts throughout The Mac King Comedy Magic Show. Blending comedy and magic is not something that is the norm, King explains; usually a magician has an air of mystery and remains stoic throughout a performance. But for King, a man that came from a family of self-proclaimed comedians, the dinner table was the premiere pulpit to see who could be the funniest. Comedy was ingrained—and so was magic. Both his

grandfathers dabbled in it; one of his grandfathers taught King his first trick involving a rope. Audience members are introduced to this trick, and while it requires nothing more than a rope and a pair of scissors, they’ll be pleasantly surprised and quite taken aback by its power to confound the mind. While King possesses the air of an unassuming magician, looking more like a 1970s salesman with his plaid suit and briefcase full of tricks, the man truly sets the stage afire with his impressive skills. Whether it’s the bit where he goes “fishing” and conjures up a real goldfish at the end of his fishing pole or guesses the correct audience
member’s playing card and pulls it out of a sealed cereal box, King’s parade of illusions constantly leave the audience stunned—and laughing. During one trick, King calls up two audience members, giving them each a pile of playing cards. He puts on a “cloak of invisibility” and proclaims to everyone that he will transfer three cards out of one volunteer’s pocket into the other volunteer’s pocket using only magic. The laughs come in when King is doing the transferring, one card at a time, and asks one volunteer in a disembodied voice: “Did you feel No. 2 land in your pants?” –Kiko Miyasato Excalibur, 702.597.7600

Throwing Herself Into the Art
‘America’s Got Talent’ winner brings vibrant persona to genre Darci Lynne was only 12 when she debuted on NBC’s America’s Got Talent with her bunny buddy Petunia in 2017. The two traded off vocals during a duet of “Summertime,” and although Petunia tried to cover Lynne’s mouth, judge Mel B was so impressed that she awarded the tweenaged ventriloquist a coveted Golden Buzzer, catapulting Lynne into the finals and towards a destiny of performing on the stages of Las Vegas. Lynne is an 18-year-old adult now, headlining at the same theater inside The Mirage where her idol Terry Fator was booked for his first residency. One of the youngest contestants to win AGT in the show’s history is now positioned to

help nurture ventriloquism and move it forward by introducing to the next generation the art of speaking through hand-held companions. She already reigns supreme as YouTube’s most-viewed ventriloquist, thanks to AGT’s channel, and has performed at Planet Hollywood Resort and Caesars Palace. Lynne has the highest profile of any female voice-thrower since the late Shari Lewis warmed hearts with her beloved Lamb Chop. But where Lewis relied on comedy, Lynne sings with a song-stylist’s maturity. She’s toured nationally, performed at the Grand Ole Opry, starred in her own NBC Christmas special and appears in an upcoming biopic of Ronald Reagan starring Dennis Quaid.
Veteran “vent” Jay Johnson gave a seal of approval in a 2017 blog post on behalf of himself and household names Fator and Jeff Dunham as well as other torch bearers like Gary Owen. “It is not that Darci is just a wonderfully talented girl, nor that her ventriloquism technique is near perfect, and her singing chops could stand alone without the puppet assistance,” Johnson wrote. “It is that Darci seems to understand the long history and tradition that she has now become a part of. Her dedication to the art and her young spirit will influence a generation of belly talkers to come.” –Matt Kelemen The Mirage, 7 p.m. April 29, starting at $39.99 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

Songs That Move You The question on the minds of fervent Michael Bublé fans who plan to attend his limited engagement at Resorts World Las Vegas is likely, “Which songs from Higher will be part of the set?” Tracks from the new album, released March 25, fit in well with the catalog of standards and easy listening chestnuts he draws on for live performances. Naturally, he’ll satisfy audience expectations with arrangements he’s preparing with a full orchestra for his Vegas shows. “Sway” will surely be in there. “Quando, Quando, Quando” and “I Only Have Eyes for You” are likely to be holdouts from his 2021 sets, as well as his version of the stirring “When I Fall in Love.” The man from Burnaby, British Columbia, has a slew of options from Higher to choose from, including Paul McCartney’s “My Valentine,” which could replace “My Funny Valentine.” “Crazy,” his duet with Willie Nelson, might fit well alongside “You Were Always on My Mind.” Bublé faithful should keep fingers crossed that he’ll take the opportunity to add his cover of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It on Home to Me,” which would be a great complement to his rendition of the Bee Gees “To Love Somebody” in his concert repertoire. –Matt Kelemen Resorts World Las Vegas, 866.740.7711 axs.com

Italian restaurant excels at presentation If you’re like us, there’s just no beating Italian food for its belly-satisfying goodness. There are just so many ways to approach this cuisine, from your basic spaghetti and meatballs to veal Parmigiana. And one of the Strip’s brightest Italian spots, Brezza, excels at every single one of them, thanks to the watchful eye of chef Nicole Brisson, who knows that a memorable meal is as much about presentation as the food itself. The décor here is pleasantly spacious, with plush booths, bar seating, a main dining area and comfortable patio. It’s the perfect environment to sample any one of the incredible signature cocktails, from the Sirocco (Codigo reposado tequila, Cointreau, lime and pineapple) and

the Brezzacello (Kelel One vodka, limoncello, Cointreau and lemon) to any one of the Negronis (we’re partial to the Sbagliato, made with Campari, Carpano Antica and Prosseco). Appetizers are customized to any taste, from filet mignon in the Tuscan carne cruda for carnivores and the buffalo mozzarella in the heirloom caprese for vegetarians. Seafood fans will enjoy Littleneck clams al forno, charred octopus and fried calamari, served with pickled peppers, crispy guanciale and Calabrian aioli. You can go the pasta route for your main course with so many choices, including herb pappardelle with lamb ragu, rigatoni arrabiatta with cherry tomatoes, cappellacci “oregenata”
with cauliflower and spinach (pictured), and salt-roasted potato gnocchi with fennel sausage. Brisson’s attention to detail is all over the menu, and she often uses local purveyors. Try the osso buco with saffron orzo and gremolata, or the veal marsala, which uses local mushrooms. If you decide to go for a steak, veal chop or whole branzino as your main, make sure to pair them with sides like mascarpone mashed potatoes, made with a poached egg, guanciale and pickled peppers. Besides classics, try the Tarte Aux Pommes, an apple-butter Old-Fashioned with bourbon, spiced apple butter, and Angostura and orange bitters. Speaking His Mind When you go see Eddie Griffin perform at his reopened stand-up comedy residency, you better be ready. The veteran funnyman has never shied away from controversial or taboo topics over the course of his 30-year career onstage, and he’s not about to change his ways. Griffin’s latest comedy special, Laughin’ Through Your Mask, captured his performance the day after the Capitol attack last year. “It wrote itself,” he laughs. “Those (ri-
oters) proved building a wall does not work, the way they climbed the Capitol walls.” A longtime Las Vegas resident, Griffin has maintained a Vegas residency for years at the Rio and then SLS Las Vegas, which transformed into Sahara Las Vegas in late 2019 but wisely held onto their in-house comedy star. Now settled into the Sahara Theater, Griffin continues to bring insightful comedy to audiences. –Brock Radke Sahara Las Vegas, 21+. 702.761.7000

Foynes Original Irish Coffee It doesn’t get more Irish than this traditional specialty cocktail, the Foynes Original Irish Coffee. First, the glass is heated, after which a tablespoon of brown sugar is added, followed by some fresh-brewed coffee. Then a shot of Powers Irish whiskey is added; it’s then topped with a made-in-house whipped heavy cream. Don’t use a straw, says Hillen: The best way to get the full flavor experience is to drink the hot coffee and whiskey straight through the thick, cold cream. Bartender is the real deal Rí Rá Irish Pub at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place is the real deal, and lead bartender Susan Hillen is the real deal, too. The authentic Irish pub employs many people from Ireland, and Hillen is one such person. Born and raised in a small town in Ireland called Dundalk, Hillen, who has dual citizenship, moved to the U.S. when she turned 21. She landed in Florida working a short while for Ritz-Carlton, where she did everything from housekeeping to bartending. She moved back home briefly but then returned to the states and was hired at Rí Rá in Atlanta. She spent almost three years bartending there before she was approached to help open the Las Vegas location. “And here I am, 11 years later,” Hillen says. “I love it. Every day is different. You meet new people from all over the world and people from different cultures. I even have my regulars that have been coming since day one. I love getting to know people.”
As Hillen says this, her boss shouts from the bar, “We don’t have that long a day, to tell you how much she likes meeting new people!” While he was just poking fun, this tells you a lot about the type of person and bartender Hillen is—she’s friendly, makes her guests feel welcome, and genuinely wants to get to know them. “You have to be warm and welcoming,” Hillen says. “I love getting everyone interacting together at my bar. I love giving them an experience of Ireland.” Besides the authentic décor, a lot of which was shipped directly from Ireland, another authentic experience Hillen provides is the “perfect pour of Guinness.” She’s a certified perfect-pour Guinness ambassador. “I’ve had a better pint here than I’ve had at some bars in Ireland,” she says. “You can be the judge about our Guinness. We do the perfect pour. A real good, creamy, pint.” In other words, the real deal. Just like her. –Kiko Miyasato

You can find a lot of options for seafood in Vegas, and the Japanese bistro Kusa Nori at Resorts World Las Vegas showcases the food in myriad ways. Kusa Nori is on the wide promenade of the District, just past The Kitchen and Sun’s Out Buns Out. The decor, like much of Resorts World properties, is sophisticated yet whimsical. Inside, you’ll find vibrant touches of red and representations of bamboo, birds and enormous fish, plus an octopus swimming through the restaurant. A sushi bar and teppanyaki table add plenty of seating choices to your dining experience. Miso soup, edamame and shishito peppers are all staples in Japanese restaurants, but are elevated here— the edamame offering includes yuzu sea salt and shoyu salt, while the shishito peppers feature a sudachi-avocado oil emulsion. Along with one of those, a cocktail might come in useful—maybe a yuzu lemon drop or a hibiscus paloma? That elevation of dishes is seen throughout the menu, with shareable shigoku oysters accented by golden ikura and gold flake; shrimp tempura served with wasabi-honey aioli and kabosu fluid gel (kabosu is a citrus that’s somewhat like yuzu); and gyoza made with wagyu.

If you want hot food, there are plenty of robata selections, from an Angus beef filet to jidori chicken and jumbo tiger shrimp, each accented with mouthwatering seasonings. Seasonal offerings from the grill include Okinawa sweet potato, eggplant and asparagus, plus bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms. There are larger entrées on the menu, like the chashu korobuta pork belly, which includes the intriguing matcha-dusted pork crackling, cedar-wrapped jidori chicken and misoyaki black cod. And you’ll find the interestingly named Wagyu Beef Theory menu section, offering Tokushima Gold A5 Japanese wagyu strip loin in two styles, with a 3-ounce minimum; or a 10-ounce Black Hawk domestic black wagyu strip loin. The desserts are just as interesting as the entrées, with choices like the apple sake crisp, sort of a take on a pie but with sake gelée, vanilla cream and a kinako crumple.

sesame prawn toast, crispy salt-and-pepper octopus, fried frog legs with dried chili and smoked black cod offer delicious diversity you won’t experience anywhere else. Eastern European cuisine isn’t as prevalent on the West Coast as it is in the Midwest and on the East Coast. But Las Vegas has a long-established local restaurant where everyone knows they can enjoy Bulgarian and Hungarian dishes, plus much more. At Forte Tapas (702.220.3876), you can find everything from a Thracian clay pot stocked with sausage, roasted peppers and Bulgarian sheep’s milk feta cheese, to savory pelmeni dumplings stuffed with tender beef or wild mushrooms and topped with fresh dill. This beloved spot is a neighborhood staple and you haven’t taken advantage of the full offerings of the city’s dining scene if you haven’t dined at Forte. Want another rarity? Egyptian cuisine is well-represented at POTs (702.754.6200), which serves an all-vegan menu with delightfully satisfying results. Share some pickled eggplant, falafel samosas and Egyptian-style hummus to get started, then sample different street foods like ful mudammas (slow cooked fava beans, vegetables and tahini) or cauliflower shawarma. Don’t skip the apricot and coconut pudding mahlabeya for dessert. If you’re more meat-minded, head over to MGM Grand’s International Smoke (702.891.3922), which deftly combines elements of Southern cuisine and barbecue with global flavors for a truly unique presentation. Smoked potato chowder with Portuguese sausage, spicy Thai beef lettuce cups, Sinaloan-style achiote chicken and Jamaican braised oxtail with red beans and coconut rice are among the standout dishes sure to catch your eye and stimulate your tastebuds. One of the most buzzed-about off-Strip restaurants specializes in traditional Spanish paella. Valencian Gold (702.776.7707) is putting on a show with a blend of fantastic cocktails and traditional Spanish dishes with innovative twists, such as French fries topped with braised oxtail; paella with shrimp, chorizo and corn; and roast chicken with saffron almond sauce. There’s a lot of personality in these dishes, so be prepared for a memorable meal. –Brock Radke

Undefeated boxers ready for intense unification fight By Matt Kelemen
Óscar Valdez
Óscar Valdez and Shakur Stevenson have a few things in common when it comes to professional boxing. Both fighters seek to unify their respective 130-pound-limit championships at their April 30 matchup at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Both are professionally undefeated, plan to remain so at the conclusion of their clash, and after Saturday night expect to be considered among the best pound-forpound fighters in professional boxing. Aside from those shared goals, each fighter marches to very different drums. World Boxing Organization junior lightweight champion Stevenson, 25, considers himself on the fast track to superstardom, which would make him seem narcissistic if he didn’t express that in such casually sincere fashion— and if so many people didn’t agree with him. The Newark-born natural fell under the spell of boxing at age 5 and trained under his grandfather’s guidance. He won 200 amateur fights and a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics. In October, he defeated Jamal Herring for the WBO belt. Now he’s under the spell of promoter J. Prince, who advised the careers of hip-hop acts The Geto Boys and Drake before becoming involved in boxing via Andre Ward. Ward, Pernell Whitaker and Sugar Ray Leonard are several of Stevenson’s main ring inspirations, and Floyd Mayweather’s name comes

up a lot in part due to expectations that Stevenson will become the sport’s next big thing. World Boxing Council super featherweight champ Valdez doesn’t plan to make that easy for him. The 2012 Olympian from Nogales, Mexico, won the WBC title after dominating Miguel Berchelt for 10 rounds at MGM Grand Conference Center last year, knocking him out with a vicious left hook. He tested positive for a banned substance before his previous fight and has weathered a constant barrage of accusations from Stevenson about avoiding their matchup. Valdez (30-0, 23 KOs) remains resolute that he’ll throw his punches at MGM Grand, not on social media. He has reach and height advantage over Stevenson, and a left hook that can finish off stunned opponents. Stevenson (17-0, 9 KOs) is a supremely skilled defensive fighter with speed and technique that can cause mayhem if he gets in close, especially if he can land a blow on the jaw Valdez once needed to have wired after a bout. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis will face off in an eight-round lightweight co-feature against veteran Esteban Sánchez that precedes the unification showdown between Valdez and Stevenson. The winner of the latter will hold two titles in the same weight class, will remain undefeated and can claim bragging rights to being included on a pound-for-pound list currently topped by Canelo Álvarez. MGM Grand Valdez and Álvarez share a trainer 3:30 p.m. April 30, in Eddy Reynoso, and a win against prices vary. axs.com Stevenson would be redemptive for the Reynoso stable after Valdez’s scandal. Stevenson is looking at the fight as the beginning of a new chapter that puts him on top of the boxing world, expressing predictions about his destiny with unshakable confidence. There is much more at stake than two belts.

Watch this year’s NFL Draft in style all over the Strip Hundreds of thousands of football fans will be bustling through town this week for the NFL draft, a massive event that will not only feature the Fountains of Bellagio but a Main Stage over by the Caesars Forum and the Linq Promenade. Obviously, space is limited at events like this, meaning many fans will choose to watch their favorite teams’ picks at venues around the Strip. And we’ve rounded up some of the best options—not only how to view the fun in complete comfort, but where to get some great drink and food specials. For some stadium-style comfort food, combined with the excitement of far too many TV screens at once, you’ve gotta head to Public House at Luxor. Finger foods like tuna poke nachos and pepperoni pizza bites pair perfectly with a large beer selection. For fans of football and former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, it doesn’t get better than Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux at Harrah’s, a chain co-owned by Brees that focuses on Cajun and Creole cuisine like gumbo, crawfish etouffee, deep-fried catfish strips and Krispy Kreme bread pudding, not to mention an extensive beer and cocktail list. It also has more than 80 TVs and a large bar area, ensuring an ideal viewing experience no matter where you and your group choose to sit.
If you and your group really want to stretch out, how about 15,000 square feet of space at Money, Baby! at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas? Add in more than 200 TVs and noshes from Food Network star Beau MacMillan like 18-inch, all-beef hot dogs in four different recipes, black truffle pizza, miso-glazed salmon, 16-ounce New York Strip, Beyond burger, Southern fried chicken sandwich

Las Vegas makes a perfect base camp for an excursion to the Grand Canyon By Nina King The Grand Canyon is one of the most impressive sights in the entire U.S. (it’s even visible from space!), and for many people, visiting here is a high point in their travels. And while you are vacationing in Las Vegas, you can also check it off your bucket list, no matter what your timing restrictions or transportation might be.

Maverick Helicopters 702.261.0007
There are plenty of ways to experience the canyon, but one of the quickest is with a helicopter tour. There are several in Las Vegas, including Maverick Helicopters, which features several options to a variety of spots around the Grand Canyon. To get from your hotel to the canyon and back to Las Vegas in half a day, you’ll be traveling to the West Rim, which is Hualapai land, and departing from Maverick’s Las Vegas Strip terminal. The Wind Dancer tour features 45-minute flights to and from the canyon over a variety of land formations and 30 minutes on the ground at the canyon itself, where you can take in amazing views and get incredible photos. Plus, you’ll get tons of interesting facts about the various sights from your pilot. If you have another hour or so, you can take the Maverick’s Grand Canyon West tours. Grand Canyon West is owned by the Hualapai tribe and features several areas to enjoy not only natural scenery, but also historic points of interest. The West Rim is also home to the Skywalk, an enormous glass horseshoe-shaped

pedestrian bridge that juts out over the floor of the canyon, allowing you the pleasure of looking down hundreds of feet with seemingly nothing between you and that floor. Maverick’s excursions to Grand Canyon West include the Skywalk Odyssey, where you’ll receive expedited entry onto the Skywalk.
Some of you are just not cut out for helicopters, and in that case, Gray Line has your back. The well-known tour company offers a variety of excursions from Vegas, on both buses and luxury vans, and the price point is excellent. It does take a full day (12 or 14 hours, depending on whether you go to the West Rim or the South Rim). Tours include shuttle transportation to Gray Line’s terminal from your hotel, where you will depart from Las Vegas. If you choose the West Rim, you’ll have about a little under three hours of drive time to Grand Canyon West, where a shuttle runs from point to point; you also have the option to add on a Skywalk experience. You’ll have four hours here, so there’s plenty of time to check out everything. It takes longer to reach the South Rim on Gray Line, but entry into the Grand Canyon National Park is included. On the way, your tour driver will point out various facts about the Southwest and the history of the Grand Canyon. Once you are there, you’ll make stops at three areas with three distinct feels where you get an idea of the history of the canyon and the park in about three hours.

South Rim
The Grand Canyon has a long and twisting history stretching back thousands of years, and at the South Rim it has also encompassed a tourism aspect, as rail and road options brought travelers in (Route 66, the national highway that stretched from Chicago to the West Coast beginning in the 1920s).

Today you can find hotel accommodations both in the South Rim and in Williams, Ariz., south of the rim on Interstate 40. And although driving to the South Rim itself can take four to five hours from Las Vegas, the drive to Williams, Ariz., takes only about three and a half hours. Once there, you’ll find several hotels, including the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel, where the interior reflects the lodging that railway passengers might have experienced way back when (but with all the

modern amenities, of course, including a pub). It’s right next to the historic Williams Depot and the railway itself, which offers daily trips to the South Rim and back. The depot was constructed more than a century ago, as was the Grand Canyon Depot and El Tovar Hotel. Now, all are operated by Xanterra Travel Collection. Although you could get up at o’ dark hundred in Vegas and book to Williams to catch the 9:30 a.m. train, staying overnight in Williams is recommended so that you can grab dinner and a drink and rest up. Train buffs will love the restored historic cars, from Pullman and coach cars to first class and observation dome cars. Even the diesel engines are restored (the railway has a huge yard where cars are brought back to their previous glory). Although the train pulls out for the Grand Canyon at 9:30, a

class, food and drink. The trip to the canyon takes about two hours and 15 minutes, and along the way you’ll enjoy singers and musicians in Western garb entertaining, your attendant will give you fun facts about the railroad and park, and you’ll get great views from the large windows. It is utterly charming, and you’ll feel decades slipping away the closer you get to the park. Once in the park, you’ll spend a few hours at the rim where El Tovar is located (and buses here let you check out other parts of the park). If you have reservations at El Tovar or one of the few other hotels here, you can head to check in; otherwise hop back on the train, where you will enjoy a quiet trip back to Williams (unless train robbers appear!). Regardless of how you experience the natural wonder of Grand Canyon, we think you will agree that it’s an excellent side trip to make while enjoying your bustling vacation in Las Vegas (which is also a wonder in itself).

Staging home offices are important in selling a home You’ve made the decision to sell your home. But are you confident that it will sell quickly once prospective buyers get a look at the interior? If not, that’s where Stately Home Staging comes in. The Las Vegas-based company specializes in making areas of your home pop, and this week’s installment focuses on one you might overlook: The home office. Las Vegas Magazine’s Ken Miller interviewed Heidi Carlsen, lead interior designer with Stately Home Staging, to get some answers that will

hopefully help you make a more informed decision when you are selling your property. Why is the home office so important to stage when selling a home? With so many people working from home these days, it’s good to paint a picture of how a worklife balance could unfold in the home buyer’s potential home. Many homes have a designated den or office with built-in shelving. Open shelving can feel a little intimidating. Instead
of having shelves stacked with books, it’s good to be able to show people from a design aspect how to arrange books, picture frames and home/office decor to boost motivation. What are the most important things to remember in staging the home office? Keeping a simplistic design that is clutter-free, light and welcoming. Your environment affects your mood, as do colors and light in any given space. Take advantage of natural light, having

LVING
the desk facing toward windows when possible. If the space doesn’t have access to natural light, bring in lamps for extra lighting. Also think of subtly colored canvas art and botanicals to brighten up the room. What kind of design facets are important to consider in the home office apart from other areas of a house? A home office’s furnishings should reflect the same style as the rest of the home. It’s always
nice to showcase a view when possible. If the home office is adjacent to a master bedroom or shares a space with another room, it can be nice to put a small area rug down to designate the space; it helps give the area its own identity. A home office shouldn’t feel like a stuffy cubicle! Remember, this is a place that’s supposed to facilitate inspiration. Grand office chairs suggest that you are the boss of the space and can help people envision where they can be productive.
Have home offices played a more significant role since the start of the pandemic? Yes, over the past two years people have worked from home more than ever before. It doesn’t seem like that will be changing in the near future. Staging a home office showcases the potential functionality that a property may have. You can keep the home’s design/style consistent throughout the office, avoiding the feeling of a corporate setting. For potential homebuyers, this can be very appealing!
