Miracle Mile Shops Sizzling Summer Styles
NOTES
From the Editor Looking Good!
Go to any major event in Las Vegas—a boxing match, a grand opening of a production show, a new restaurant—and you’ll quickly notice a common theme: Fashion. Everyone wants to look their best when it comes to the Las Vegas Strip, and it’s easy to see why: Las Vegas is probably the people-watching capital of the world. While you’re looking at what other people are wearing, they’re looking at you too! With summer just around the bend, it’s time to start thinking about the perfect beachy attire. And with the Strip’s huge amount of pool clubs, you may want to think about hitting the stores now with an eye to returning when the temps hit the triple digits and everyone heads to the water. Luckily, this week’s issue is sure to give you some great ideas. We feature some of summer’s hottest styles, courtesy of Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort (“Sun-kissed,” p. 30). Happy hunting! Whatever fun styles you brought with you to Las Vegas this week, there are plenty of opportunities to show them off. There’s sure to be a sea of people attending both Katy Perry’s return to her ridiculously entertaining residency Play at Resorts World (“Props to Her,” p. 9) and The Eagles return to MGM Grand, this time to play the entirety of their legendary Hotel California album (“Flying Again,” p. 38).
If you’re looking for a high-end dinner experience, we’ve got two perfect spots: The newly opened Nobu at Paris, the third Vegas location of Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s iconic brand (“A Brand New Hot Spot,” p. 11), and Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse at Golden Nugget (“Cravings Satisfied,” p. 13). Want something a bit ... messier? Get all the barbecue styles you love at Virgil’s Real Barbecue at The Linq Promenade (“The Thrill of the Grill,” p. 24). Time for a show! Magic fans are sure to have a blast at Mat Franco’s up-closeand-personal show at The Linq (“Memory Maker,” p. 12), while comedy lovers will definitely want to head to The Mirage, where Gabriel Iglesias is the latest in that property’s Aces of Comedy series (“Funny Focus,” p. 16). If your tastes run a bit more adult, check out our Q&A with Whitney Giron, one of the performers in the long-running “X” Burlesque show at Flamingo (“Strong, Sweet & Sexy,” p. 36). If you haven’t been to AREA15 yet, we’ve got two great reasons: The recently opened Illuminarium (we snagged an interview with nightlife manager Paul Montgomery—it’s on p. 20) and the upcoming Neon Dream Memorial Day Weekend celebration (“Surround Sound,” p. 49). Whatever you do this week, look good doing it!

and those songs Perry’s fans can sing word for word. The ”plot” of Play is simple: Perry plays a doll that comes to life. The story is told in chapters, with animated video vignettes introducing each one. As Perry tirelessly works
her way through fan favorites, an unparalleled production unfolds around her, featuring huge replicas of everything from toilets to cereal boxes. This isn’t just one of the best-sounding residencies in Las Vegas at the moment, it’s one of the most fun to look at. –Ken Miller

Bringing It All
Who said TV couldn’t become reality? America’s Got Talent has been appointment television in my household for many years. It’s a very well-produced reality competition series, providing plenty of memorable moments (and, let’s face it, some not so memorable) as the country gradually winnows a list of competitors down to one grand prize winner of $1 million and a headlining show in Las Vegas. Even if you’ve never seen the show, odds are you’ve been to see some of the past winners: Terry Fator, Shin Lim, Tape Face, Piff the Magic Dragon ... the list goes on and on. And now you get to see some of next generation of future Strip performers all in one place:

America’s Got Talent Las Vegas Live, a variety show at the Luxor like no other on the Las Vegas Strip, pulling together some of the most beloved acts of the last few seasons (both those who won the $1 million and runners-up) in a show that’s as well-produced as the NBC hit series it’s based on. The entire production is hosted by comedian Preacher Lawson, a high-energy, highly personable individual who keeps the proceedings moving at a brisk pace. You’ll hear the emotional, reverberating messages from poet Brandon Leake and the incredible musical talents of Kodi Lee (pictured). Magician Dustin Tavella will con-
found you with his illusions while touching your heart at the same time (all three men won their respective seasons). There’s also the incredible acrobatic talents of husband-and-wife team Duo Transcend, as well as the nail-biting, death-defying knife-throwing skills of Deadly Games. But wait—we’re just getting started. You’ll also get to hear the singular voice of singer Jimmie Herrod, thrill to the mixture of dance and technology with Light Balance, and wonder how The Clairvoyants are pulling off their mental feats. In the immortal words of Simon Cowell, I don’t like this show … I love it. –Ken Miller Luxor, AGTVegasLive.com

A Brand New Hot Spot If you love sushi, you will undoubtedly love the new Nobu at Paris, world-renowned chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s third Vegas location. A courtyard setting and “indoor” room lies to the rear of the patio, while another dining area has a sushi bar and open kitchen behind, while the backs of several curved upholstered seats form a wall of sorts, setting off the room from the corridor. The menu here pulls in many of Nobu’s most signature fusion dishes, both cold and hot, such as the tacos. These small plates, like Nobu’s other dishes, take simple ingredients and imbue them with extraordinary flavor. The lobster taco is dressed lightly and is super tender, and the vegetable taco, with sweet potato purée and wasabi, is lovely. Other great options include a scallop roll, where the star ingredient creates a creamy feel in the mouth. For bigger bites, choose the black cod with miso, moist, flaky and even buttery. The omakase menu is one of the best bets here, with signature and vegetarian options. –Nina King Paris, 702.944.4007
Live Off the Edge So you think you’re brave, do you? Well, test yourself on SkyJump Las Vegas, where you jump off the top of The STRAT, from 855 feet up. Like a skydiver, you’ll leap out into the air, strapped into a harness, descending at speeds approaching 40 mph. You’ll fall past the romantic Top of the World restaurant and may startle a few folks there as you plummet past. But never fear—you will be slowed down before you land, and there are guide wires which help keep you on course. But that knowledge won’t stop the incredible adrenaline surge you’ll feel on the way down. –Nina King The STRAT, 702.380.7777
Everlasting Sound There are only a handful of entertainers whose works truly continue to resonate with audiences long after they have gone, including Whitney Houston. Head to An Evening With Whitney: The Whitney Houston Hologram Concert, for a show that has all the energy of a Whitney Houston concert—even though the person singing onstage isn’t really there. And when the audience hears songs like “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” and “I Will Always Love You,” her chart-topping single from The Bodyguard, you’ll swear the genuine article was performing. Illusionist’s show is all about connection Something very interesting happened at a recent performance of Mat Franco—Magic Reinvented Nightly I attended (and I’ve attended a lot; it’s one of my favorite shows in town): Midway through the show, an audience member, to whom Franco had earlier tossed a bag of ramen noodles as a souvenir (ramen plays a huge role in one of Franco’s signature illusions) tossed it back to him, got out of her seat, and began an incoherent rambling about something or other. It went on for minutes, and Franco’s attentive ushers were about to intervene, but Franco shooed them away, pleasantly engaging in a conversation with the audience member until she left the theater of her own accord. As soon as she left the theater, Franco sat down, let out a huge sigh and said, “I’ll never forget this night!” And that, in a nutshell, is the appeal of Mat Franco and his illusion-filled show: Not only is each show unique because of his interaction with audience members of all ages (and states of inebriation), but Franco genuinely enjoys that interaction. He’s a people person of the highest order, remembering the most specific details at the end of the show, in which he “customizes” each performance to reflect the people he meets, their stories, and maybe a few embarrassing moments. This is where the show gets its title, and it’s precisely the reason why Franco’s show continues to have infinite appeal more than seven years after he won America’s Got Talent. And then, of course, there are the closeup illusions themselves—Franco’s skill at making objects appear from thin air—cards, coins, wine bottles, you name it—is on full display here, and the various volunteers Franco brings on stage are in a constant state of amazement. No matter how close they are to him, they can’t figure out how the illusion works. And, as Franco is quick to ask, why would you want to? The memories of his show are what are important. –Ken Miller

Oh, Shoot! If you want to vary your shooting experience, Machine Guns Vegas offers a range of packages for indoor and outdoor ranges at different price points, one of which is sure to appeal. The SEAL Team 6 offers four guns in the indoor range, from a Glock 19 to a tactical shotgun. The Gamers package features four guns on the indoor range, all of which are found in popular video games. Ammo and targets are included. Outdoor packages take you to the desert, with Tannerite-equipped targets for an explosive good time. –Nina King 3501 Aldebaran Ave., 800.757.5872 Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse courtesy photo Carbone photo by Dylan Ho and Jeni Afuso Machine Guns Vegas photo by Christopher DeVargas
With all there is to experience in the heart of Fremont Street, it’s advantageous to make a mental note that Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse is available as a go-to dining destination. Find the cream and gold exterior of Golden Nugget, then head inside with full confidence that rare, expertly cooked steaks await. A steakhouse can be judged by its sides, and Vic and Anthony’s menu offers a seafood-leaning selection from jumbo-sized shrimp or lump crab cakes to fresh oysters on the half shell and the seafood tower. Six different salads satisfy any need for greens, with the restaurant’s Caesar topped with shavings of sheep’s milk cheese. An entire entrée of fried lobster mac and cheese can be ordered for diners who can’t get enough dairy in their diet, but steakhouse sybarites will not get that far down the menu once they see the “For the Table” options, including chateaubriand, Prime porterhouse and a 40-ounce tomahawk cut, while filet mignons, prime New York strips and rib-eyes round out the main menu. –Matt Kelemen
Feed Your Fancy You cannot go wrong with the appetizer menu at Italian-themed Carbone, but we suggest starting with the carpaccio Piemontese, featuring truffles, walnuts and mushrooms atop thinly sliced beef tenderloin, brushed with a white truffle emulsion. Moving onto main courses may present a challenge, as there are plenty of eye-catching offerings. For meat lovers, a medium-rare rib-eye Diana with a cacciatore-style sauce is sure to satisfy, although we’re
particularly partial to veal Parmesan, and this version is pretty much the reason. It’s enormous and enormously satisfying, accompanied with a cheese-crusted, deepfried rib. Don’t skip dessert. Carbone specializes in the classics, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially when items like tiramisu and cheesecake are presented so beautifully. –Ken Miller Aria, 877.230.2742

After Dinner Comes … Sweet, sweet heaven at Hakkasan. The restaurant portion, featuring contemporary Chinese cuisine, of the multilevel experience at MGM Grand has added three desserts to its menu, all delightfully delicious and like little works of art. The first is the Berry Sphere with Tahitian mascarpone cream, hibiscus strawberry coulis and pistachio crumbs. The Sweet Caviar dessert features a cherry marmalade, chocolate mousse and a crunchy feuilletine in a mock caviar canister. For a dessert adventure (or if you can’t decide on just one), try the Hakka platter, which features five mini versions of the restaurant’s most popular desserts, including the Berry Sphere and a favorite, the Spikey Lemon—not only cool-looking, it’s also tart and sweet, with yuzu, calamansi gel and almond cake. You’ll also get to try the popular chocolate and hazelnut dumplings that float in a syrup of yuzu-ginger infusion. Accompany any one of these with a dessert cocktail that’ll give you a little caffeine kick. Try the Serenity with Ketel One Oranje vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso and essential oils, or the Carajillo with Licor 43 Cuarenta y Tres liqueur and espresso. –Kiko Miyasato
Unforgettable Wizardry It’s over the top. It’s mind-blowing. It’s equal parts scary and funny. What we’re trying to say is that you won’t soon forget Criss Angel MINDFREAK. The illusionist is wellknown to millions for his extreme stunts on TV, and this show turns that all up to 11. A band keeps the energy high during the entire show, during which Angel re-creates a video game fight scene, saws a woman in half, walks on air and reads minds, all with a wink and a nod to the audience—Angel is

clearly having fun, especially when he brings volunteers onstage to reveal their greatest fears. But as edgy as the show can get, it has a softer side as well. Angel is deeply involved in charitable causes, and uses part of his show to advocate for helping the less fortunate. There really is something for everyone in this production. Comedian has kept the jokes flowing Gabriel Iglesias appeared before his first audience at age 10, but he didn’t have his own jokes yet, so someone suggested, “Why did the chicken cross the road?” He broke the crowd up with his answer (“To pick up chicks.”) and was immediately hooked. Since then, the 45-year-old comedian affectionately known as “Fluffy” has built a fan base than can fill Dodger Stadium, literally. Some 45,000 fans came to see him at the hallowed spectator grounds during the recent Netflix Is a Joke Fest. Other career highlights as of late include providing voices for animated characters Speedy Gonzalez in last year’s Space Jam: The New

Legacy and mountain barbarian Picchu in Netflix animated fantasy series Maya and the Three. It’s fitting that a comedian who is as animated as Iglesias is onstage would find himself in such productions, but scoring the role of Tobias in the Magic Mike film franchise is one of two fateful decisions that led to him being one of the most recognizable comedy talents working today. The other was deciding in early adulthood to pursue stand-up with the entirety of his being, which at one time weighed 445 pounds. Iglesias has shed at least one-quarter of his body mass since, but the stand-up sobriquet that inspired titles of early stand-up specials such as I’m Not
Fat ... I’m Fluffy remains. Still, it’s not his weight that sold out Dodger Stadium. It’s the stories he tells, drawn from a life of a kid who soaked up comedy while growing up in Long Beach. By the time he hit his 20s, he could no longer resist the stand-up life, and, by 2000, he was performing sketch comedy alongside Nick Cannon and Kenan Thompson on Nickelodeon’s All That. The three comic actors all went on to bigger and better things. Iglesias crossed the road to get to the other side and found stand-up success. –Matt Kelemen The Mirage, 10 p.m. May 27-29, starting at $59.99. ticketmaster.com

What kind of images come to mind when you think about what happens at a male revue show in Las Vegas? Now hold on to those thoughts and then get even more excited when I tell you that Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike Live Las Vegas not only titillates but celebrates women. Combined with some of the hottest hits, impressive dance numbers show off all the guys’ phenomenal dancing skills while they make moves that’ll make the most liberal of women blush. (In a nice touch, some of the guys perform live music numbers with instruments, too.) The whole theater continually erupts with shrieks of delight and thunderous applause after each number; fake dollar bills are provided so you can make it rain for some of your favorites. “The creatives of the show wanted to create a safe space for women to come to when they come to Vegas,” says Kyo Dominick, one of the original performers in the show. “They want women to feel empowered and loved after leaving our performance. It’s also a place for women to just go and have a good time. There are so many things to take away from the show after watching it but ultimately, I just hope everyone has a great time.” –Kiko Miyasato
Street Heat Some Las Vegas hotels have pretty cool front yards. Bellagio has its iconic fountains and The Venetian has its faux canals. And while those sights are impressive, they don’t hold a candle to the original, free large-scale entertainment attraction—the fire-spewing volcano in front of The Mirage. For more than 30 years, the volcano has attracted children and adults alike with its booming explosions, fireballs, faux lava and flames that are so hot you can practically feel them across the boulevard. Suffice it to say, it’s a real blast! Catch it on the hour from 7-10 p.m. nightly. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff The Mirage, 702.791.7416

Immersed in a different type of nightlife Paul Montgomery manages a different type of nightlife experience in Las Vegas. “It is something that is absolutely new,” says the Chicago native. “The best way to explain it is once they walk in they’ll go, ‘Ooooh, now I get it!’ But until they walk in it is a tough thing to explain.” The “it” is Illuminarium After Dark at the allnew Illuminarium at AREA15, and Montgomery serves as nightlife manager for the 21-andover experience. The “walk in” is two separate spaces called “Chapters.” There’s Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, and each serve as an immersive nightlife experience with “4K interactive projection, 360-degree audio, in-floor vibrations and scent systems.” “Chapter 1 is very much like an ultra-lounge— more laid-back, smaller,” Montgomery says. “Your environment changes from an underwater scene and then it takes you to Shibuya Market. It jumps environments, which is just really cool and unlike anything being done out here.
Chapter 2 is more the club room—DJs play, people dancing.” Montgomery, a longtime veteran of the Vegas nightlife industry, brings all his experience to After Dark. He curated the specialty cocktail program, creating the cocktails himself. He helped design the layout of the rooms and oversees the adjoining patio bar. He grew up working in both his grandparents’ bars in Chicago. When he moved to Vegas in 2005, he joined Palms during its heyday and managed hot spots Rain, Moon and Playboy Club. When he saw the job opening for Illuminarium he applied, and has been with the company since it was under construction, opening this spring. “Every time you walk in to the Chapters, you get overwhelmed by how cool it is,” he says. “I love the underwater experience—it’s like being submerged in the bottom of the ocean while you’re listening to great music and having great cocktails. It’s pretty cool.” –Kiko Miyasato

Scotch 80 Prime (866.752.2236) was instantly regarded as one of the top casino steakhouses in the city when it first made its debut at the Palms in 2018. The resurrected and refreshed version offers the same swanky environment that recalls glam-
orous Vegas nights, juxtaposed with a modern menu specializing in seafood towers, woodgrilled steaks and chops and decadent side dishes. It’s a new version of a classic experience. energetic smokehouse from celebrity chef Michael Symon, first opened at the Palms in early 2019 along with an array of other new venues, so many Vegas visitors and locals may not have had the chance to engage with this experience that first and only year. It’s time to fix that, and enjoy Symon’s take on traditional smoked brisket, pork spareribs, barbecue sandwiches and creative sides like cheddar bacon cornbread, pit beans and hot greens. Come hungry. The Palms is not the only place in Las Vegas that’s currently putting a fresh spin on a familiar experience. At the Plaza downtown, a second location of the legendary Sand Dollar Lounge (702.386.2110) recently opened, significantly larger than the beloved original on Spring Mountain Road, to offer more live music and craft cocktails. And the delicious pub grub comes from championship pizzaiolo Michael Vakneen, who opened Pop Up Pizza at the Plaza 10 years ago and has crafted a unique, signature pan pizza for the highly anticipated Sand Dollar Downtown. Be the first among your friends to give it a taste. All the culinary talk in Henderson these days surrounds Rosa Ristorante (702.478.9200), a Jersey-style, Italian-American eatery from chef and owner Rob Moore, who made a name for himself cooking in Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s epic Strip steakhouses at Bellagio and Aria. Working with the flavors and ingredients he grew up with, Moore is thrilling diners with clams oreganata, cheesy risotto fritters, amberjack crudo, roasted branzino, pizza, pasta, steaks and more at his own homey joint. Rosa is about to become the next big thing off the Strip. Back on the Strip, there’s a new energy at Paris Las Vegas, thanks to several new openings, and Vanderpump á Paris (702.946.4217), the second Vegas cocktail lounge and restaurant from reality TV star and Los Angeles restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump, is the perfect starting point for exploration. This ornate and enticing new spot is not so much an extension of Vanderpump Cocktail Garden at Caesars Palace as it is an homage to all things French, including a vast champagne selection, alluring cheese and charcuterie boards and irresistible desserts. But you should be warned—even though this place just opened, many visitors have already stopped in planning on a predinner cocktail before moving on to another restaurant, only to have too much fun to leave Vanderpump. “X” Burlesque’s Whitney Giron celebrates 10 years as the show celebrates its 20th anniversary
36

LAS VEGAS MAGAZINE
It was already considered a staple of the Strip entertainment scene, but this spring “X” Burlesque is celebrating its 20th year of thrilling and teasing Las Vegas audiences. The sultry show, currently performing at the Flamingo, has been enjoyed by more than a million people during its impressive run, and dancer Whitney Giron has been a big part of the production after joining the cast in 2012. The Northern Nevada native took some time to talk about what “X” Burlesque means to her.
How does it feel to celebrate this very significant anniversary of the show, especially since you’ve been performing in “X” Burlesque for almost 10 years?
It’s very exciting and I’m definitely very proud to say I have been a part of it for almost half its life. I really don’t know where the time went. When people ask me about it or want to know what I do, I always have a smile on my face, and I’ve always been very proud to be part of this show. It’s a great show and I have a very coveted spot.
Flamingo, 18+, 702.777.2782
What do you think sets the show apart from other burlesque-style productions?
I don’t know if I’m biased, but when I look at the girls next to me in the dressing room, I just think they are the most beautiful women and, having gotten to know them, they’re all so strong and smart on and off the stage. Things don’t always go right, but we’re all dancers that know how to adapt, and we all work well under pressure. Having a strong cast with a lot of camaraderie makes a big difference. And we all have a lot of passion and excitement for our jobs.
Do you have a favorite number? For the 15th anniversary, we put in a “Good Girl” number, and I love it, not just because I get to be the featured dancer, but the other girls come out and we have this long boa that stretches the length of the stage, and it breaks apart into individual boas. It’s cute and flirty and very traditional, and it has that glitz and glamour.
“X” Burlesque has hosted plenty of celebrities over the years.
Do you have a favorite celeb guest?
One of the biggest (stars) was Nicolas Cage, who used to be a frequent guest at (sister show) “X” Rocks. Just a few months ago, we were doing the show and found out later that one of the guys sitting in the back row was Taye Diggs. Part of me was glad I didn’t know he was back there, because it might have got the nerves going. But I was bummed because I probably would have given an extra wink and smile his way if I knew.
Given your experience, the anniversary, and the difficulty all entertainers dealt with in recent years, it must be an extra special experience every time you’re onstage.
I can’t express how much gratitude I have for (producers) Matt and Angela (Stabile) for having kept me in the show this long. I hope that means they like me! Over this 10 years, I have made lifelong friends and memories, and it’s just such a blast and I’m so happy to be part of something so big.

The Eagles give their fans a full ‘Hotel California’ experience By Matt Kelemen If the last Eagles tour was considered a farewell to fans, the latest round of dates could be considered the Hello Again Tour. Deacon Frey might have taken that farewell literally, as after nearly five years of filling in for his dad, Glenn, he is already, amicably, gone. The rest of the Eagles are feeling strong with Vince Gill enlisted to help sing their victory songs on a 12-date series of concerts in North America and the U.K. that open with performances of Hotel California. That was the first Eagles album Joe Walsh played guitar on, with bassist and high tenor Timothy B. Schmit joining shortly afterward for 1979’s The Long Run. Both are on board with band co-founder Don Henley in the current lineup, performing every song on the classic 1976 album from the title track to “The Last Resort” before kicking off a career retrospective by weaving their voices in heavenly harmony for “Seven Bridges Road.” That song was recorded by its writer, Steve Young, in 1972, the same year a debut album was released by a group of musicians who had broken off from backing Linda Ronstadt. Eagles spawned three hits, including Jackson Browne/Glenn Frey collaboration “Take It Easy,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Witchy Woman.” Follow-up album Desperado fared less well in sales but would be more remembered for its title track than the Old West concept that inspired the album’s song cycle.

Those songs plus “Already Gone” from 1974’s On the Border come early in the mostly chronological greatest hits segment of the sets, demonstrating the strength of the band’s early material. By then, the musicians had assumed firm roles within the band, with Frey coming up with ideas and arrangements and Henley’s soulful
delivery providing distinctive lead vocals. Songs were less about driving down the road trying to loosen loads and more about the excesses of success. The band was part of its time, and would implode shortly after the ’70s wrapped. Henley and Frey followed separate solo treks, with Henley

scoring the biggest hit with “Boys of Summer” (performed on the current tour). Lucrative fiscal realities put the Eagles back in action in 1994 for the Hell Freezes Over Tour. Walsh and Schmit were game, as were millions of fans whose appetites had been whetted by classic rock radio’s longtime reliance on Eagles tunes.
Frey’s passing in 2016 led to Deacon and former Pure Prairie League singer Gill joining the live lineup for a tour that was more of a farewell to Frey than the band. The demand to hear Hotel California performed live is high, with Walsh blazing through its famously fiery solos as well as taking lead vocals on James Gang’s
“Funk #49” and his own “Life’s Been Good.” Henley sings lead on the song that’s been closing every set and was a slow dance favorite at many a ’70s prom. Hint: It’s what Deacon Frey got from Henley and company as he left the Eagles’ nest and spread his wings for solo flight.

Chris Beucler embraces Vegas homebuilding challenges and rewards If you follow the red-hot Las Vegas real estate, you may have heard of Blue Heron’s Vegas Modern 001, the most expensive home ever sold in the Las Vegas Valley—$25 million! But you may not know that Blue Heron has a range of boutique communities that also resonate with home buyers. Not only that, it offers plenty of options that will entice a wide range of home buyers. Nina King about the division and the trends that he’s noticed. What sets the BH Nexus Division homes apart from other builders and communities, both in Las Vegas and countrywide? First and foremost, it’s our design. Blue Heron leads not only Las Vegas but pretty much the country in its cutting-edge design. And with that comes our attention to detail, as it relates
to all the aspects of the home. ... We offer a completely finished home, which very, very few builders do. And what I mean by that we not only offer the home, but we also do all of the interior finishes for the customer … it’s not a stretch when we would say that if you bought a BH Nexus home and you utilize all our services, you literally could bring your clothes and your toothbrush and move in, and everything would be done …

In new home construction, what kind of trends have you seen since you arrived here? Well, a (few) things that I’ve seen just not only in Vegas, but across the country, (are) much more efficient building methodologies. … We’re seeing a lot of biophilic design—we’re kind of leading the charge in the biophilic world … The last thing that I’m seeing an awful lot of is a real movement right now on sustainability …. A lot of those trends are completely encapsulated in the Vegas Modern 001. Are you driving those trends in those Nexus communities here? Nexus is really all of the Blue Heron DNA. And what I mean by that is the home that you saw

in the 001 is an elite home. What we’ve done is take all of the best elements of our elite division … and bring that into our developments. … One thing that we do in the Nexus Division, too, that’s pretty interesting, is we have a lot of what we call structural options. So, as an example, we have a new community where you can get up to nine bedrooms ... We actually offer generational living with dual masters or dual primary suites. In our newest product line, we actually have detached casitas, and those come in several different configurations. You are breaking ground on several communities. What is one thing that people can look for that sets them apart?
I think the one thing that everybody recognizes the minute that they get involved with Blue Heron, is design is different. It doesn’t look like anybody else’s design. And one of the things that people tend to think with modern is that it’s cold and sharp, but what you find in the Blue Heron, like you found in the 001 house, is it’s actually a very warm and inviting environment for people. To get cutting-edge design along with something that makes you feel good is going to be very appealing to the buyers—and it already has been. We’ve had tremendous success with our last two releases.
