NOTES

From the Editor

It’s What We All Need Now For most of us, 2020 was a year we’d rather never repeat again. And while Las Vegas—and the rest of the country—has rebounded from that disastrous time, the general consensus is that we can never go back to “normal” again. Millions of Americans are now struggling, be it with inflation, COVID and its many mutations, or political differences. I recently attended a performance of Miss Behave’s Mavericks at Cheapshot downtown, and I was struck by something its host, Amy Saunders, said early on (I’m paraphrasing, but this is the general gist): The world needs entertainment now more than ever before. It reminds us that, despite any differences we may have, or how hard things can get, sitting in an audience and enjoying it together just makes you instantly feel better. This week’s edition of Las Vegas Magazine is a shout-out to entertainment in all its many forms, not just on the Las Vegas Strip but everywhere. And we start, appropriately, with Mavericks, a variety show that encourages everyone to grab a drink, get dollar bills, and get ready to let loose— and, of course, forget your troubles for 90 minutes (“This Show is Money,” p. 17). Fans of America’s Got Talent are probably aware that the Strip now has its own AGT-themed show, America’s Got Talent

Las Vegas Live, which features a rotating cast of some of the reality competition show’s greatest acts throughout the years. One of the highlights is definitely Duo Transcend, a husband-and-wife team who feature heart-stopping acrobatics and heart-melting romance in perfect proportions. In this week’s issue, editor at large Brock Radke interviews the couple (“It Takes Two,” p. 38). In addition, we’ll update you on AGT winner Terry Fator, who now displays his prodigious ventriloquism skills in his own show at New York-New York (“Singing Sensations,” p. 30). The fun continues with Absinthe at Caesars Palace, by far one of the most popular shows on the Strip—which is to say, the world. Check out our show writeup (“Let the Spirit Move You,” p. 32) and then order your tickets. One of our favorite shows has returned: Raiding the Rock Vault, which has found a new home at Rio (“They Are the Champions,” p. 13). This killer lineup of veteran musicians from various famous bands, all of whom unite to bring you some of rock’s greatest songs, will have you on your feet. This week’s issue is also packed with helpful tidbits on restaurants, attractions, bars and much more, but make sure to check out at least one show while you’re here. Because it’s time for some healing.

technically, that’s lunch, too!) There are six versions of the basic breakfast sandwich, all on soft brioche buns and featuring cage-free eggs. The typical bacon, egg and cheese gets extra pop with applewood smoked bacon, a

good cheddar, cage-free over-medium egg, and chipotle ketchup. If you want some extra oomph on that brioche, you can choose the short rib and egg version, which includes slow-roasted beef short rib. –Nina King

New to You Popular steakhouse updates menu To walk through the doors of Jean Georges Steakhouse is to enter a world of elegance, a place that feels entirely unique on the Strip, a restaurant where carnivores feel pampered from beginning to end. The large, welcoming space has ambience for days, with soft curves connecting each area effortlessly. It’s the perfect space to enjoy a cocktail like a lychee raspberry Bellini, made with prosecco, lychee and raspberry, and a JG Vesper, a blend of Grey Goose vodka, Bombay gin, aperitif and lemon. Pair one with a raw bar treat; we recommend the rice cracker-crusted tuna, chunky, delicious pieces of toro served with scallions and sriracha. Or try a starter like warm white Provencal asparagus, a taste revelation served with a mustard emulsion and herbs. Chef/owner Jean-Georges Vongerichten has added a few pleasant surprises to an already sturdy menu. Longtime fans will be thrilled to see the return of swordfish Milanese, a dish Vongerichten made famous in the 1980s. It’s a delightful twist on chicken Milanese, with the sumptuous, thick swordfish blending spendidly with the breading, served with grilled lettuce hearts, capers and brown butter. Other new highlights include slowcooked sea trout, packed with flavor and served with fava beans, preserved lemon and pistachios, and fragrant spiced lamb chops, arranged like a delicious work of art and accompanied by cucumber yogurt and crunchy garnishes. Pair any of these with delights like crunchy potatoes, one of the best versions of this standby we’ve had on the Strip, served with chili yogurt and herbs, or maitake mushrooms, saison battered and served with chili honey. For dessert, the warm Valrhona chocolate cake and New York-style cheesecake are both strong contenders, but if you want something lighter, there’s a market citrus plate with yuzu cream, white chocolate, passion fruit and mango. –Ken Miller Aria, 702.590.8660

One of the big reasons we go out to dinner? We want to be waited on and feel like we’re the most special people in the world. And at Carbone, mission accomplished. You cannot go wrong with the appetizer menu here, but we strongly suggest starting with the carpaccio Piemontese, featuring truffles, walnuts and mushrooms atop thinly sliced beef tenderloin, brushed with a white truffle emulsion. Moving onto main courses may present a challenge, as there are plenty of eye-catching offerings. For meat lovers, a large, tender helping of veal Parmesan, pictured, is sure to satisfy. If seafood is more your style, the dover piccata, drizzled with a lemony brown butter sauce and finished tableside by your captain, is irresistible. For pasta fans, the choice here is clear: the rigatoni in spicy vodka sauce, an absolute Carbone classic that lives up to its name and then some. Whatever you decide to order, don’t forget perfect sides like spicy broccoli rabe, potatoes Louie, squash agrodolce or funghi trifolati. –Ken Miller

Feeling Cape-able? Are you a true Marvel fan? Test your knowledge about that universe at Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N., where you’ll be reminded of the origin stories of everyone from Captain America to Thor. Throughout the attraction, you’ll find interactive elements that let you discover the true strength of the Hulk in Bruce Banner’s lab, and explore other dimensions with Thor. Not only will you check out the heroes, there might be a few villains featured, too. And take your time—there are plenty of small details that you might overlook at first glance, like Ant-Man’s ants leading you on. –Nina King Treasure Island, 702.894.7722

Making Melodies

EGOT winning artist brings his heart to the stage John Legend is a firm believer in the fusion of spirituality and music, and an ardent endorser of practicing mindfulness. It’s his ability to stay in the moment that’s made his career climb seem so effortless. He was born John Roger Stephens in Springfield, Ohio, to music-loving parents. “My mother was the church choir director,” he said during a March 21-26 stint as guest host of the Radio Headspace podcast. “My father sang in the choir and played the drums, so I grew up in the church and I grew up around a lot of music.” Legend begged his mother to let him take lessons. “I had this drive. I wanted to be good at this thing that I loved. I wanted to play music for other people. I grew up in the church and

watched other musicians playing in front of the audience and I wanted to be one of those people who could move people with their music.” Legend did wind up performing in church and practiced his lessons diligently. His piano playing can be heard on “Everything Is Everything” from Lauryn Hill’s 1998 debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, and he contributed backing vocals to tracks by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys before Kanye West discovered him and produced his 2004 debut album, Get Lifted. That album contained his first huge hit, “Ordinary People,” which earned Legend Best Male R&B Vocal Performance honors at the 2006 GRAMMY Awards. Get Lifted won for Best R&B Album that year, and Legend was also named

Best New Artist. He’d win nine more GRAMMYs in the ensuing years, most recently in 2021 for Bigger Love. Legend earned a Best Original Song Oscar in 2015 for “Glory” from the film Selma, a Tony in 2017 for co-producing a revival of August Wilson’s Jitney and an Emmy in 2018 for playing the title role in Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert. And while Legend probably won’t literally walk on water in Zappos Theater during Love In Las Vegas, fans expecting to be moved by his music will not be disappointed. –Matt Kelemen Planet Hollywood Resort, 8 p.m. Aug. 10, 12-13, 17, 19-20, Oct. 14-15, 19, 21-22, 26 & 28-29, starting at $69 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

Raiding the Rock Vault proceeds at breakneck speed from the get-go, going all the way from the ’60s to the ’90s, with informational tidbits on each song shown on video monitors (like the true story that inspired “Smoke On the Water,” or how “Stairway to Heaven” was never released as a single). Guitarists Rowan Robertson (Dio, Bang Tango) and Z Maddox (Bow Wow Wow), bassist Dan Grennes (Melissa Etheridge), vocalists Keith St. John (Montrose, Burning Rain), Georgia Napolitano (Trans Siberian Orchestra) Jimmie Romero (The HellenBacks) and Jason Ebs (Peter Criss), keyboardist Michael T. Ross (Missing Persons) and drummer Blas Elias (Slaughter) mesh seamlessly as they jam their way chronologically through classics like “My Generation,” “Hotel California,” “More Than a Feeling,” “Eye of the Tiger” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” Visually, the show keeps your eyes plenty busy as the vocalists change outfits depending on the era (and performer) they are channeling. In addition, two backup dancers provide plenty of hot moves in various costumes. –Ken Miller

Acts Aplenty

Variety show displays diverse array of talents If you’re the type to romanticize Las Vegas (which means you’re like me), you’re the perfect audience for Extravaganza—The Vegas Spectacular. It’s a celebration of all the elements that make this city legendary, from famous performers and locales to gambling and the showgirl. It’s also one of the most jampacked variety shows you’re likely to see. Extravaganza is a collection of some very talented acts, from roller skaters and motorcyclists to acrobats and plate-spinners. The framework in which they operate concerns a down-on-hisluck hero who takes a one-way bus ticket to Las Vegas and experiences everything the city has to offer—including love. Along the way, he’s

16

guided by a tap-dancing philosopher who helps move the story forward while providing plenty of good-natured laughs along the way. You’ll visit a ’50s diner, complete with bobbysoxers, a wedding, a visit to downtown Las Vegas and even fly high in the sky with the moon in the background. The show is punctuated with several different styles of music, from the hits of Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra to the sultry sounds of Marilyn Monroe—all courtesy of impersonators who appear via a portable projection screen. The show’s technological components are well used here, including background projections that propel the audience into the desert, up and down a roller coaster and along a canyon.

It all combines for a fantastic framework around which Extravaganza presents us with acts like the skaters who perform death-defying feats on a small, circular stage; acrobats who are hurled into the air during a romantic interlude; a juggler who tosses several hats into the air in succession, always managing to be at the exact spot when they return; crossbow master Silvia Silvia, who displays absolutely pinpoint accuracy in whatever she’s shooting bolts at; and a Michael Jackson impersonator who delivers some thrilling dance moves to “Billie Jean” and “Smooth Criminal.” Best of all? This show is fun for the entire family. –Ken Miller

Up until now, if you wanted a taste of medieval-themed entertainment in Las Vegas, Tournament of Kings at Excalibur was your only option. But not anymore. Primal Steakhouse opened in 2020 at Boulevard Mall, and it’s a hit with locals. The décor is straight out of a scene from Game of Thrones—it’s dimly lit with faux chandeliers and wall sconces, dark-colored curtains, dark stone and wood walls with brick outlay and wooden tables and chairs. Guatemalan-born chef Angel Lopez has created a varied menu full of flavors and surprises, all served up by some of the friendliest, most professional staff in the entire valley. Appetizers include bone marrow, beef carpaccio (served with dry ice for a beautiful effect) and black ceviche, served in a shell made of ice that melts as you eat the contents within. Main courses include smoked halibut and a 32-ounce tomahawk that might be one of the best cuts of meat I’ve ever tasted. And grab some sides like lobster mac and cheese and risotto. Everything here is just bursting with flavor and personality. –Ken Miller

This Show Is Money Those who were lucky enough to catch the Miss Behave Gameshow at Bally’s a few years ago will be excited to know that its intriguing host, Amy Saunders, is back in Las Vegas in a new show, this time downtown at Cheapshot. And while the format is different from before, Miss Behave’s Mavericks is no less entertaining. It’s a grab bag of performers, all hosted by the inimitable Saunders (who performs some pretty nifty sword-swallowing and

balancing acts of her own). You’ll enjoy jugglers, magicians, acrobats and burlesque dancers. What really puts this experience over the top is, well, you. You are strongly encouraged to bring dollar bills along, which you are then strongly encouraged to crumple into tiny balls and throw at any performer you particularly like. For the love of the game In 1978, while Tony Miller was running up and down the field at UNLV as one of the college’s football players, he was also running up and down the Las Vegas Strip as a “runner.” “Back then they didn’t have legalized sportsbooks, so I was called a runner and I would run bets for people,” he says. Miller ended up really liking the runner job, so by 1985, when betting on sports had finally become legalized inside casinos, he was hired as a ticket writer at Caesars Palace’s sportsbook. Over the years, he’s worked at different sportsbooks. He spent 12 years at Las Vegas Hilton, helping to open their Superbook, and worked as a sportsbook director at Hard Rock Hotel, Red Rock Resort and, in 2006, he joined Golden Nugget, where he still works today as the executive director of race and sports. “This is the best job I’ve ever had,” Miller says. “Tilman Fertitta is probably the best owner and is someone I can talk to about things.

It’s just been a great career here at the Golden Nugget, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.” Running the sportsbook, Miller keeps an eye on all things sports. “I make lines for all the sporting events around the world that we book here,” he says. “I come up with the point spreads—try and make money on those particular games. ... It starts from five in the morning when I get up and look at daily headlines. Who’s hurt today? Who’s not? Is it raining? Is it indoors, outdoors? Is it turf or grass? So many factors go into a point spread, and I have to know all these things on a daily basis.” After more than three decades in the industry, Miller serves as one of the elder statesmen of the Vegas sportsbooks. “I love sports,” he says. “I’ll go home every night to this day and drive my wife crazy ‘cause I leave work and put on a game at home. I knew if I could never be a professional ball player, this was the next best thing.” –Kiko Miyasato

kitchen is surely the best way to experience the full flavor of Wakuda. In the city’s Chinatown district, Aburiya Raku (702.367.3511) has been the standard for a classic izakaya experience in Las Vegas for more than a decade. Acclaimed chef Mitsuo Endo and his team continue to craft deliciously perfect renditions of traditional Japanese bar food staples, including house-made agedashi (tofu with aged soy sauce), poached egg topped with uni and ikura, juicy deep-fried chicken, dried tatami and sardine salad, and an extensive assortment of meats and vegetables from the robata grill. Sharing smoky skewers of Kobe beef, bacon-wrapped tomato and Iberico pork with plenty of sake and plenty of friends at Raku is a culinary rite of passage. Nearby, sample a variety of iconic Japanese dishes including ramen, sushi and well-organized bento boxes at Café Sanuki (702.331.9860). There’s something for everyone on this dynamic menu, but the specialty of the house is fresh, scratch-made udon, thick and chewy noodles served simply in seafood broth, with seasoned beef and green onions in the signature Sanuki broth, or with mild curry sauce and tempura tofu. You can’t really talk about Japanese food without mentioning the master Nobu Matsuhisa. He recently opened a third Vegas branch of his iconic Nobu restaurant at Paris Las Vegas (702.946.4007), adding to an already rich dining portfolio at the themed resort. Enjoy his signature dishes like sweet miso black cod and yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño. Let’s finish this Asian adventure on the south Strip at Mandalay Bay, where Kumi (702.632.9100) offers several different vibrant environments to enjoy an ultramodern menu of inspired selections. There’s an active, open lounge; a cool sushi bar where you can choose your favorite fish piece by piece; and two main dining rooms, one more clubby, the other intimate and exclusive. Cold dishes like steak tartare and soy ginger tofu and warm shared plates like spicy tuna crispy rice and maple-glazed char sui pork ribs are available no matter where you’re sitting. And the signature Kumi fried rice with vegetables, kombu-steamed Chilean sea bass and Japanese sweet potato with smoked bacon are the right fit for any occasion, leaving a lasting impression and reconfiguring your perception of Japanese cuisine. –Brock Radke

Terry Fator lends his voice to an ensemble cast in ‘Who’s the Dummy Now?’ By Matt Kelemen

Terry Fator has spent much of his show business career surrounded by dummies. They steal the spotlight onstage even though Fator often carries them. A true pro, he prefers the audience focus on his co-stars while they sing. Those co-stars got Fator to where he is now, at New York-New York Hotel & Casino with a second Vegas residency that seeks to answer the question put forth by its title: Who’s the Dummy Now? Surely Fator is not the dummy, although a few members of his ever-evolving supporting cast may beg to differ. Who’s the Dummy Now? is a double entendre, possibly a triple, that strikes to the core of the art of ventriloquism while inviting the audience to suspend disbelief and imagine Fator’s pint-sized celebrity likenesses have been possessed by the spirits of their inspirations. Those inspirations are invariably Fator’s and include David Bowie, whose presence allows for a rendition of Bowie’s classic collaboration with Queen, “Under Pressure.”

Fator’s singing career started long before his 2007 AGT win, and his interest in ventriloquism began during his adolescence. From setting to act lineup, Absinthe has endless appeal The Gazillionaire

or those of you who have not yet seen Absinthe, we envy you. We really, really do. As many times as we’ve all been to see the hit show in the spiegeltent outside Caesars Palace, nothing comes close to the feeling we first had when we took our seat in the elaborately decorated space, gazing at the small stage in the center and wondering what exactly was about to happen. And yes, we still laugh until we cry at the ensuing antics, but nothing matches the unmitigated joy we felt that first time, a mixture of shock and hilarity that had us recommending it to everyone we knew—even prudes!

All this is a long way of stating the obvious: This is a show you need to see. Now. It’s a highly concentrated evening of entertainment—like the spirit itself, it can make you a bit dizzy, but in the best way possible. To simply call this a variety show would be a huge mistake. Yes, there are countless acts that rotate through every night (go 10 times and you’ll probably never see the same lineup twice); and yes, those acts are some of the most impressive you’ll see anywhere on the Strip. But Absinthe is so much larger than the sum of its parts. There’s the comedy element, brought to you by the incredibly inappropri-

ate Gazillionare, who’s constantly bragging about his money when not insulting nearly every member of the audience within his sight line. There’s the sex element, courtesy of The Green Fairy, a vision that drops from the ceiling and then begins dropping some of her clothes. And there’s the anything-goes element, thanks to Wanda Widdles, The Gazillionaire’s assistant whose libido does the talking for her (often in the most shocking way possible). Within this wild framework, the acts strut their stuff in the spiegeltent. Every show starts with a nerve-wracking chair stack by either Maxim or Hossein. The only other act that appears each and every time is the tap-dancing team of Sean & John Scott, who speed the proceedings up to a frenzy with some hypnotic footwork (and a bit of comedy). From there, you’ll see any or all of the following: Water on Mars, a juggling act that proves you can juggle almost anything. Toilet paper? Check? Open bottles of water? Check. Giddy fun Check. Aerial artists Ming and Alexa, who twirl and twist effortlessly while exuding romantic, sensual energy. When they kiss at the climax, it’s always an audience favorite. David O’Mer, whose bathtub routine has become the stuff of Absinthe legend. It’s funny, sexy and in your face (plastic covering is a must for those in the front). Atlantis, a group of four extraordinarily strong (and extremely likable) gentlemen who take turns flipping the smallest member of the group as high in the air as possible. Time to check Absinthe off your bucket list. And then see it again.

Most visitors to Las Vegas have an idea of what they want to do before they get here. There’s gaming, of course, and destination dining. There are shows wherever one stays and shopping within walking distance of any GPS coordinates on the Strip. There are golf tee-offs to schedule and salon or spa appointments to make, while more casual afternoons can be spent checking out attractions such as Titanic and Bodies … The Exhibition. While the former will hit the spot for fans of James Cameron’s

There may be shortages in some sectors of retail, but the shelves are as full at Omega Mart today as they were when the experiential art destination opened at AREA15 more than a year ago. There is no shortage of visitors from around the world either, with reactions to Meow Wolf’s off-Strip maximalist satire of consumerism expressed in a variety of languages by “shoppers” perusing the aisles. Verbal expressions give way to speechless amazement when exploration uncovers entries to an alternate universe. Like a wardrobe enabling children to enter Narnia, Omega Mart has several passageways hidden in plain sight that allow explorers into a world of pure imagination—some 60 environments created by a collective of artists with insatiable appetites for surmounting art-world conventions. Feb. 18 marked the first anniversary of Omega Mart as a Meow Wolf milestone, reinforcing the artists’ shared belief that whatever ultimately lies behind their collective vision, they are doing it right. Still, creative director Spencer Olsen felt a little too close to the project to objectively conclude how successful things turned out when the doors first opened. “I had no idea if this was good, if people were going to like it,” he says. “There is a part of the audience that doesn’t get it, but I’ve been remarkably pleased by the reactions. nections and story threads that we couldn’t have even planned.” Manifesting permanent immersive art experiences that people would pay to visit has been a goal that had firmed up for the group of Santa Fe visionaries by 2011 when they created The Due Return, a fullsized explorable ship inside a Santa Fe gallery. The next year, they made a prototype Omega Mart, with 1,000 schoolchildren helping to create its sardonic consumer goods. Meow Wolf, under the patronage of Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, then transformed an abandoned Santa Fe bowling alley. The House of Eternal Return was an immediate hit when it opened in 2018 and paved the way for successors in Denver and Las Vegas, where knowledge and wisdom culled from previous projects were fully exploited. At Omega Mart, that resulted in a destination with four sprawling thematic “anchor spaces.” Taking in the sights and sounds while randomly exploring every twist and turn of Omega Mart’s four giant themed areas is sensually satisfying on its own, but there’s a storyline involving Omega Mart’s fictional parent company Dramcorp, its missing founder Walter Dram and his daughter Cecelia. Unraveling the enigma behind Dramcorp is a deep dive that conspiracy buffs may find worth the time commitment. “We didn’t want it to feel like an evil corporation,” says Olsen of Dramcorp. “It should either be good or ambiguous, or at least well-intentioned. … Ultimately it’s about a family.”

Duo Transcend keeps crowds transfixed By Brock Radke Mary Wolfe and Tyce Nielsen are Duo Transcend, an acrobatic trapeze act that has wowed audiences on television’s America’s Got Talent since 2013. The married couple from Salt Lake City built a reputation as one of the most daring acts in the program’s history, which is why they returned to the show and were then selected as one of the anchors of America’s Got Talent Las Vegas Live at Luxor when the stage spectacular launched in 2021. Incredibly, they keep the level of excitement as high as possible every night, thanks to a laser-focused dedication to their craft and achieving peak physical ability.

different. You can hear Tyce calling me out for blindfold trucks. I think the live version has a different dynamic, and at the end of the show when we get to meet people and they tell us it’s more impressive live, that’s what we want to achieve.

Tyce: It’s really important to us that we are performing for the audience, giving them the show. For a lot of artists, they are creating art for other artists, and sometimes the audience is left in the dark. When we started doing America’s Got Talent, we saw what was working and what people really liked, and our performances have been adapted to give our audience the best show possible. Mary: Sometimes when artists get a consistent contract like ours with this show, they start to feel safe, like they don’t need to push themselves anymore. We never stop pushing ourselves. We want to keep ourselves looking as good as possible and doing the best routines we can. What we do is so physical, and it’s only a short time that our bodies can do this, so we want to give it everything we’ve got while we’re physically able to.

Tyce: The production value is so great with America’s Got Talent Live, not only are we doing the best we can do and we’re in the best shape of our lives, but the production (surrounding) our act is unreal. There’s this amazing video screen behind us so it’s like we’re taking you on this crazy ride with us up in the air.

Mary: It’s really inspiring to be here, and we’ve been wanting to make Vegas our home for a long time. We actually came here on our honeymoon and saw a bunch of shows, so now it’s surreal driving to work every day, seeing the Strip, and thinking, “This is our life.” Tyce: Vegas is an amazing place and a destination a lot of performers in our industry want to make their home. For people like us, acrobats, to get a headlining position on the Strip is a huge deal. It means everything to live here and be working on the Strip every night.

By Kiko Miyasato There are plenty of ways to enjoy Las Vegas other than the Strip. Get outdoors for a solo trip or bring your partner or family and check out nine great biking experiences. Whether it’s checking out the beautiful scenery on a nice slow-paced ride or putting your cycling skills to the test, there’s great options for everyone.

1

RIVER MOUNTAINS LOOP TRAIL You can actually access this bike path from the Union Pacific Railroad trail. Just cross over the bridge and this path will take you to popular points like Lake Las Vegas and Hoover Dam. This loop is more than 35 miles, so pick your paths wisely if you don’t plan on making this a long trip. The paved trails are surrounded by the River Mountains where big-horned sheep roam, so don’t be surprised if you catch sight of some along the way.

RED ROCK SCENIC LOOP Bike 13 miles of beautiful scenery along the paved Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop. While cars also share the road, it’s safe for riders. While enjoying the views of striking desert mountains and foliage, you’ll find a climb that will test your endurance, but the winding descent is a nice reprieve.

the Green Valley neighborhood—just a short drive from the Strip—is the Pittman Wash Trail, a 4-mile ride. Enjoy the paved path lined with trees and manicured landscaping. There are tables along the way, so it’s a great spot to have a picnic, too.

4

BOOTLEG CANYON About a half-hour drive from the Strip, Bootleg Canyon offers 36 miles of tracks for those looking for a challenge or adrenaline-packed experience.

Winding mountain tracks that overlook Lake Mead and the steep downhill trails give riders a workout, but visitors from around the world rate this biking adventure high on their list.

5

UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD TRAIL Ride nearly 8 miles following the railway tracks through the city of Henderson, a neighborhood just a short drive from the Strip. The tree-lined trails cut through residential and shopping areas and for the most part are a breeze to bike, making them good for families with little ones.

8

MOUNT CHARLESTON You can’t beat the weather up at Mount Charleston—it’s usually around 20 degrees cooler and seems like a world away from the neon lights. It’s also where you’ll find dozens of bike trails from
