Triumphant Return

Vetri Cucina was one of my favorite new restaurants of 2018, and it wasn’t particularly close. Everything about the restaurant—décor, spectacular views from the 56th floor of the Palms, next-level Italian cuisine and an attentive waitstaff—was beyond my expectations. As sad as I was to see it close during the pandemic shutdown of 2020, I’m thrilled to announce that it recently reopened its doors. Trust me: This is one restaurant you want to put on your Las Vegas bucket list. Best of all, owner and chef Marc Vetri has improved upon what was already an impeccable experience. Don’t worry, hardcore fans: Vetri’s classic dishes are still here, but where the previous iteration focused on elegance and high-end, the restaurant is now more casual, with small plates and shareable dishes the norm rather than the exception. And the fun starts with Vetri’s signature cocktails like the blood orange spritz, featuring blood orange Malfy gin, blueberry-hibiscus syrup, Fever-Tree Indian tonic and Cinzano prosecco, or the Brown Butter Manhattan, made with brown butter and sage fatwashed Russell’s Reserve bourbon, Lustau rose vermut and bitters. Now that your palate is ready, definitely start your meal with a Vetri classic, the foie gras pastrami, served with toasted brioche and mostarda. Another surefire hit is the sweet onion crepe with truffle and Parmesan fondue, pictured, or the durum focaccia with whipped ricotta and mortadella. Vegetarians need not worry, as the menu also includes shaved cauliflower salad with salsa verde and ricotta salata.

Pastas here are all uniformly excellent, from the almond tortellini with Parmesan and white truffle to saffron fusilli with lobster and tomato. Main courses range from surf (swordfish with Swiss chard, pine nuts and Castelvetrano olives, and salt-baked branzino with Brussels sprouts and truffle butter) to turf (roasted goat with housemilled soft polenta and grilled wagyu bavette with crispy squash and horseradish bagna cauda).

Don’t forget the wonderful array of desserts, from chocolate polenta souffle with honey gelato (our favorite) to molten pistachio cake with orange curd gelato. –Ken Miller

Experience So Many Worlds of Wonder

AREA15’s head of events and entertainment talks shop

When AREA15 opened in 2020. it figuratively— and literally—changed the Las Vegas landscape when it came to immersive arts and entertainment. The multiple building complex offers unique family-friendly and adults-only experi ences, and it’s Noah Kessler’s job as the head of events and entertainment to keep its wondrous and successful reputation going. Kessler recently spoke with Las Vegas Magazine’s Kiko Miyasato about what makes AREA15 so truly special and what visitors can look forward to as the year closes and a new year begins.

How do you decide what type of entertainment comes to AREA15?

AREA15 offers a robust and ever-changing lineup of entertainment, from concerts to top-tier nightlife to immersive art and original productions. We’re really focused on booking a diverse program; and we’re really just getting started. Booking multiple musical genres, everything from electronic music to hip-hop, rock ’n’ roll, country and LGBTQ programming, (we) really try to diversify and offer something for everybody. We aim to program stuff that’s different than what’s typically offered on the Strip or downtown. We’re always looking to book uplifting programs; things that bring people together.

What are some of your favorite spots inside AREA15?

I love Omega Mart, it’s just totally radical and next level. I like Museum Fiasco a lot, it’s a very sensorial experience; it feels really good in there.

Anything you can share that’s upcoming?

Looking forward to our New Year’s Eve programming—we’re going to do a complete building takeover. You buy a ticket, and you have access

to all the different spaces including Omega Mart. We’re going to have music programming in Oddwood, The Portal, A-Lot. In the building, we’re going to have electronic, base, house and some disco and top 40, and in A-Lot, it’ll be more base-focused. We also have our AREA15 “massives,” formerly known as themed parties. We’re looking to do six of them throughout next year that combine music, art, performance, experience and connection to give our guests an unforgettable night—we encourage people to come dressed up so they can go from spectator to participant. We really create whole immersive worlds. We also have a few standout artists booked for 2023: Ganja White Night, Big Gigantic as well as Little Miss Nasty, a burlesque show inside The Portal in January, February and March. We also have a lot of new food and beverage outlets coming next year.

Are you surprised at how massively successful AREA15 has become?

Yes, I think it was a surprise to everyone. I feel like we’re really changing the game, and I think a lot of the people on the Strip are looking to what AREA15 is doing next. I think we’re a trendsetter, hyper-relevant with the content and the music we’re bringing in. AREA15 really provides a place where people can explore their imagination. It gives a sense of hope. It’s all about connection— people are looking for that in this day and age. It’s a lot of fun; we seek fun during a heavy time in the world. It’s a reprieve and good experience and a place to go and find hope and creativity. I think people leave with their eyes opened a little wider and brighter.

Fun

If you’re looking for a one-stop spot for adult enjoyment, put RedTail at the top of your list. This bar-meets-loungemeets-karaoke bar-meets-restau rant-meets-gaming bar is loaded with ways to unwind and let loose in a cool atmosphere, and best of all, it’s ideal for large groups.

Test your college-days skills by playing a round of giant beer pong, or your gaming skills on video and carnival games. With a group? Reserve one of the private karaoke rooms for a singing battle—drinking highly recommended.

Speaking of alcohol, RedTail has you covered. Beers on tap and specialty cocktails make the menu, but don’t miss the large-format cocktails that produce up to 10 cocktails. And the names! Who wouldn’t want to order the Golden Shower or White Girl Wasted?

Food runs the gamut from shared small plates like Wisconsin cheese curds, poke nachos and pepper poppers to what RedTail calls their “killer wings” with choice of different sauces. You can also get meatier with huge patty burgers like the classic RedTail with

applewood bacon, tomato jam, blue cheese and romaine slaw or the ChiliCheeze with beef chili, cheddar cheese sauce, crispy shallots and tomato. There’s also a wagyu beef patty burger for you fancy folks!

Thursday through Sunday, enjoy RedTail’s happy hour from 4-6 p.m. with $3 off 20-ounce draft beers, $2 off all apps and $1 bone-in wings. The fun never stops here. –Kiko Miyasato

Keeping Things Spicy

They say you shouldn’t mess with perfection. I say they’re wrong! I say, variety is the spice of life. Mess with perfection all you want! And Fantasy has certainly done just that over its 23 years on the Las Vegas Strip, adding new numbers, new cast members, new half-time acts to provide comedy relief … all in the service of creating a show that demands repeat attendance. I don’t care when the last time you saw the show was; it will be completely different upon your return.

The core of what makes Fantasy such a winning production is still front and center, from the trio of statuesque dancers who romp on a bed to Janet Jackson’s “Nasty Girl,” a silk rope routine that’s as seductive as it is thrilling, and the entire cast flooding the stage with red hues for a rousing rendition of The Police’s “Roxanne” by host Lorena Peril (apparently Sting was at a recent performance and gave it a strong endorsement).

But there were definite updates at a recent performance:

• Peril singing Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” complete with a country dance number performed all around her;

• The entire cast strutting around the stage in white dress shirts and hats, doffing them slowly to a cover of Randy Newman’s “You Can Leave Your Hat On” (spoiler alert; nudity is involved!);

• Three of the dancers displaying impressive pipes for a rendition of Christina Aguilera’s “But I Am a Good Girl”;

• A cha-cha number by Fantasy ’s dance captain Yesi Burgess, who shakes things you didn’t know could be shaken.

Midway through the show, you’ll either catch Murray Sawchuck performing comedy magic (watch your shoes!) or Shayma Tash cracking up the audience with impromptu bits like searching an audience member’s bag and listing the items like she was on the Home Shopping Network.

One bit we hope never leaves the show involves a competition among the audience to see who can dance best to “Proud Mary.” The winner gets to come up onstage and … well, we’ll keep that a secret. All we’ll say is that it’s one of the funniest things you’ll see on the Strip. –Ken Miller

People wait all year long for this! No, it’s not the holiday season; it’s stone crab season, which kicked off in November at Piero’s Italian Cuisine, and runs through May.

At the revered, family-owned and -run restaurant, you can take advan tage of the ocean’s bounty with two sizes of the specialty appetizer, large and jumbo. Florida stone crab claws are priced starting at $30 and come chilled and served with a house-made mustard sauce. Pair that with one of Piero’s classic, huge cocktails.

And that’s practically the perfect opener for seafood fans, who may want to follow it up with an entrée of Glory Bay salmon picatta with lemon and capers, or jumbo shrimp scampi. If you’re finished with the seafood for the night, though, eggplant Parmesan is a delicious, almost meaty, main. Veal chops and a 16-ounce New York prime are hot picks as well. Pasta fans will adore agnolotti, filled with spinach and ricotta, and penne in vodka sauce, served with pancetta. And linguine pomodoro is a simple solution to too

many choices. Sides are plentiful, and the problem there is trying to find room on the table for everything you’ll order—whipped potatoes with garlic and butter, crispy Brussels sprouts, baby portobello mushrooms with cherry peppers and grilled asparagus are just a few of your choices.

Cap it all off with an espresso and you’ll be satisfied—probably until next stone crab season begins! –Nina King

The Finer Things

Gallery provides incredible variety for guests

If you love art, then you are in luck during your trip to Vegas, where there are plenty of galleries to peruse works of all kinds. At Park West Gallery, you’ll find two locations at The Forum Shops at Caesars (above each other near the circular escalator) to explore.

One of the coolest things about Park West is the incredible variety, from wellknown names like Salvador Dali to upand-coming artists like Chris Elliman, the winner of Park West’s second annual Made in Vegas artist search competition. Elliman is a contemporary surrealist, creating intense works that use many separate subjects that all make up a larger subject. The artist’s works will be on display at Park West through early next year.

You can also find plenty of other creators like Michael Godard, whose Vegas-themed works make for a fun display; Kat Tatz, winner of last year’s Made in Vegas contest; the aforementioned Dali; Pablo Picasso; Rembrandt; and Pino (Giuseppe Dangelico), which the gallery featured on its Instagram feed recently.

Every month, the gallery brings in a new artist for a visit where guests can meet the artist and take part in a Q&A; in addition, the gallery often has sales and discounts—check online for the most recent visits and offers. –Nina King

Long Live the Legacy

Dustin Drai is a part of a Las Vegas legacy. His father, Victor Drai, stands at the top of the nightlife industry and is responsible for bringing Drai’s After Hours to the city in 1997. The club still operates today in its original spot at The Cromwell, and the Drai’s name expanded with the opening of Drai’s Beachclub and Nightclub in 2014 on the rooftop of the property. Today, Dustin continues the Drai’s legacy as the vice president of entertainment for Drai’s Las Vegas and as partner with Victor in Drai’s After Hours. Las Vegas Magazine’s Kiko Miyasato caught up with Dustin to ask him about the after-hours club as it recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.

How does it feel to be a part of such an iconic nightlife spot in Las Vegas?

Growing up and watching my father’s vision, passion and the amount of hard work that he put into building the Drai’s brand from what it was 25 years ago was such an inspiration to me. It is an amazing feeling to be an integral part of Drai’s, not only the legacy of what my father built, but its natural evolution. It started with the opening of Drai’s Beachclub and Nightclub in 2014, and really flourished in bringing full-length Drai’s LIVE concerts to the stage. I’m proud to have a hand in all of that while also looking to the future of Drai’s.

What is on tap for Drai’s After Hours for 2023?

24 | 12.11.22 Las Vegas Magazine Cheers
Dustin Drai talks about a Vegas nightlife institution

Even though Drai’s After Hours is still in its original location in the basement of The Cromwell, where it all started 25 years ago, it is important to keep things fresh and to constantly innovate our guest experience. In addition to a small redesign, which we are working on now, we have a few new creative things in the works that will keep our guests excited to keep coming back.

What is the Drai’s After Hours experience like?

First, you descend the steps and enter a sleek, sexy lounge that is flooded in ambient red lighting. It is an intimate, elegant space with a beautiful bar, enhanced with gorgeous, classic paintings and mirrors. There is a sense of movement and mystery throughout club. … Drai’s After Hours is all about the vibe of the venue and the idea of “people hanging out with people.” We don’t have big name DJs or a lot of flashy pyrotechnics. We are a small, intimate space and that’s exactly what guests love so much about the club.

What musical format and themed nights happen at Drai’s After Hours?

Our DJs play a variety of chart-topping hip-hop, top 40 and Latin music nightly. We also host monthly creatively themed Imagine Parties such as: Wild, Wild Drai’s, Dark Disney, Alice in Wonderland, Carnival, Pajama Party, etc., which give our guests and team a chance to have fun and show off their imaginations through dressing for each theme.

Why do you think Drai’s After Hours has stayed open so long?

I believe one of the greatest strengths of Drai’s After Hours is our intimacy and size. You can never underestimate the strength of human connection. We don’t rely on big name talent, so for us it’s the venue itself that gives people a close, sexy, glamorous setting to create their own intimate interactions. It has become such a staple on the Las Vegas Strip.

Dakota Laurin

Dakota Laurin has done something quite amazing—he’s brought Princess Diana back to life. As the director of the new Princess Diana: A Tribute Exhibition at The Shops at Crystals, Laurin spent the past three years curating the story of the famed royal’s life.

“We really try and tell the story of her life, get nitty-gritty—the untold details behind every artifact,” says Canadian native Laurin. “We handpicked ... them based on the story and narrative we wanted to tell. (Diana’s) story has been told many times, but not in a way that’s

complemented by real-life items and artifacts.” In fact, the immersive exhibit holds more than 700 artifacts—from Diana’s childhood, her marriage, her divorce, motherhood, her humanitarian efforts, her style icon status, her tragic death and the continuation of her life through her two sons—spread through out 12 rooms.

Laurin joined the company that helped create the exhibit, SBX Group, in 2018, after working the business side of sports and entertainment. He then transitioned to what he does now—

Take a piece of Princess Diana home with you by stopping at the gift shop, where you can find popular items like the black sheep sweater that Diana was famously photographed in. business development and strategy on various projects that create both permanent and touring exhibits throughout the country. He recently moved to Las Vegas to help launch the Diana exhibit, a project that he had his hands on from inception to execution.

“(It’s) three years in the making; it’s cool to be able to dive into something that you have no idea what it’s going to look like,” he says. “And then see it all the way through, years later, and it comes to life and has success—it’s fulfilling in that sense.” –Kiko Miyasato

Nellie’s

Southern Kitchen pays tribute to famous family’s legacy

Kevin Jonas Sr. and his wife, Denise, exuded a great amount of pride earlier this year when they walked invited media members through their labor of love on the Las Vegas Strip: Nellie’s Southern Kitchen. It’s a tribute to his late grandmother and the great-grandmother of mega-famous trio The Jonas Brothers, and every detail in this location has been carefully thought out to pay homage to both Nellie (who’s pictured on a large

mural as you enter through the enormous doors) and Belmont, N.C., where Kevin grew up.

Everywhere you look, you’ll find details that evoke different parts of Belmont: Different rooms reflect different neigh borhoods; design details, like the legs on the tables, are meant to reflect the city’s natural elements; even some of the fonts used have a special connection to the community. And because of their famous

Food images by Sabin Orr, interior image by AVABLU/Ryan Forbes Banana pudding

sons, there’s also a stage area for live music (which, of course, will often include the group when they’re in town). It’s a space where you can’t help but feel you’re connected to the spirit of a community.

Keep that good feeling going with one of Nellie’s signature cocktails. The Whoa Nellie combines vanilla vodka, amaretto and pineapple juice; the Cherry Lemon Sundrop is a great blend of Tito’s vodka, fresh cherry liqueur and Sun Drop citrus soda; and the Front Porch Punch packs

a wallop with gin, Malibu rum, drunken cherry juice and mixed citrus juices.

Nellie’s is a celebration of Southern classics—more specifically, Nellie’s versions of those classics. Look for Nellie’s picture next to a menu item; those are the ones her family ate on a regular basis. They include Southern rolls, barbecue chicken, macaroni and cheese and drunken collards, rolled in a crispy fried egg roll and served

MGM Grand 702.640.0156

with a signature sauce for dipping. The Nellie’s classics continue with Southern-fried chicken and crispy waffles, served with cinnamon honey and maple syrup and garnished with strawberries, and braised short ribs served with mashed potatoes and honey-roasted carrots. But for a serious comfort food with roots in Belmont, you gotta go with Nellie’s Chicken and Dumplings, with large, house-made dumplings swimming in a rich broth. And Nellie’s picture isn’t just on the menu; it can also be found on top of one of the signature desserts: banana pudding.

There’s also a terrific sandwich menu here, all served on a brioche bun. The Southern flavor continues unabated in favorites like a fried green tomato BLT. The Free Bird, featuring a blackened chicken breast (fried or grilled) with lettuce, tomato, onion and house pickles, is even better when you add pimento cheese. How about a burger? The Carolina version features a specially blended beef with chili, slaw, onion and mustard. And what’s a Southern-style restaurant without pulled pork? The Hawg Hill pulled pork sandwich piles it high with barbecue sauce and cole slaw.

RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! brings the fun of the show to the Strip

ciation contests, though. The creative team working with RuPaul includes Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, the partners behind films Party Monster and The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Choreographer/filmmaker Jamal Sims, a prime mover behind RuPaul’s Drag Race, co-directed the live show with RuPaul.

The result is o -the-hook dancing and dazzling couture in a showroom with a stage that looks like an illuminated cathedral of camp. The score was created by longtime RuPaul collaborator Leland and producer Tom Campbell, but the queens are very much their own creations. Although the COVID shutdown of the Strip interrupted RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! shortly after it opened, RuPaul’s people persevered and observed their 300th show in October.

THE HOLIDAY SEASON arrives once a year, but the slay belles of RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! arrive five nights a week at their 9:30 performances inside the Flamingo Showroom. Current cast members Asia O’Hara, Derrick Barry, Eureka O’Hara, Jaida Essence Hall, Kameron Michaels, Kennedy Davenport, Latrice Royale, Naomi Smalls, Plastique Tiara and Vanessa “Vanjie” Mateo are the cream of the queens who have appeared in the RuPaul’s Drag Race franchise, and their participation in the live Vegas iteration demonstrates they have risen to the top.

The cast members of Drag Race Live! have fully embraced RuPaul’s ethos of “If you can’t love yourself, how the hell are you going to love someone else?” That self-caring love is cultivated through image and performance fully on display at the Flamingo Showroom. The Strip hasn’t played host to glam and spectacle on this level since the heyday of headdress-wearing showgirls.

A major di erence is that the performers aren’t uniform in appearances or attitudes. The show itself is a live

re-creation of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which completed its 14th season on VH-1. The show and its spino s feature the best drag queens in the land who compete in lip-syncing contests and participate in sketches such as a satire of classic game show Match Game. The best of the best stay to slay.

The most memorable performers have appeared in all-star sequels to the series. They consistently try to top themselves in terms of costuming, makeup creations and lip-syncing innovations. The most successful have become part of Drag Race Live!’s rotating cast, and each have their own fan base. That’s evident at the Flamingo, where fans scream out the names of their favorite drag racers when they aren’t swooning over the male-model Pit Crew dancers who help keep the show moving.

That may come in the form of a “condragulatory” chair dance for whoever gets the biggest rise on the applause meter. There are more dimensions to the show than audience-appre-

It survived in part due to the cast and crew making lemonade out of pandemic lemons with the reality series RuPaul’s Drag Race Vegas Revue, which kept the cast visible when they couldn’t perform live. They own the stage now and have carved out a niche in Strip entertainment that from all appearances looks like it will be around for years to come.

Gingerbread dreams and romantic themes inspire Bellagio attraction’s holiday installation

While a 42-foot-tall Christmas tree from Mount Shasta is at the epicenter of A Holiday Confection, the deliciously designed winter wonderland installed at The Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, its main theme—in a word—is “gingerbread.” A visual feast highlighted

by a walk-through, 25-foot-high gingerbread cottage in the Conservatory’s East Bed awaits all ye faithful arriving to promenade around the confines.

Gingerbread men abound. Gumdrops and peppermints serve as accoutrements. The scent of gingerbread min-

gles with cinnamon, causing flashbacks to kitchens of Christmas past.

“I wanted to make sure that this was a truly nostalgic holiday exhibit using gingerbread in all four beds,” said designer Ed Libby during an on-site tour. Libby collaborated with the Conservatory team, plus a few culinary all-stars, for more than a year to develop the display. “We decided to ask the pastry chefs to get involved and make a real gingerbread house with us.”

Although nearly every part of A Holiday Confection looks good enough to eat, nothing within reach is digestible. The fact that signs had to be put up reminding guests not to eat the design elements is a testament to the success of the exhibit. A gingerbread house designed by Bellagio’s pastry team is edible, but installed beyond reach of passersby in the North Bed.

The installation of the Victorian-style gingerbread house, constructed of real gingergbread, chocolate and candy inside an exquisitely designed egg against a backdrop of wintry scenes, courtesy of a state-of-the-art LED video wall, became an emotional moment for all involved.

“I’ve never seen a prouder moment than the three pastry chefs with the

crane and the engineers loading the gingerbread house o the pastry cart and into the egg,” said Libby. “It was quite a moment. More than anything else, this was a collaboration of all the Bellagio teams.”

Libby started with gingerbread and the tree, of course. A sponsorship with Coca-Cola led to the inclusion of playful polar bears inspired by a timeless holiday television commercial. They share space with lifesized elves who benefit from a touch of motion magic. Tall toy soldiers stand guard amid countless rich red poinsettias.

“It is a huge collaboration,” said Libby of A Holiday Confection. “I ask for a lot of feedback about past exhibits, and the one thing that I do know when I see people walking through is people want to see a beautiful, lovely, romantic Christmas holiday.”

STATE OF THE

Resorts World Las Vegas delivers a diverse and expansive program

Home to an eclectic collection of artworks, Resorts World Las Vegas takes a refreshing approach to casino art with its self-guided art tour and exceptional attention to detail. Prepare to be delighted, art lovers, because this collection is like no other. Grab your phone, throw on a good pair of walking shoes, and take a stroll through this combination of modern and historical works,

made interactive through QR codes that guests can scan for additional information.

There really is no bad place to start; you’ll find intentionally conceptualized, crafted and curated work anywhere you go. “Being that many of our areas are open to the public, we often have to consider many different cultures when selecting subject matter,” says Darla Real, director of interior

design. “Art should be evocative and create a conversation, but we are careful to not create controversy.”

Perhaps you’d like to start by strolling through Resorts World’s three lobbies:

• In the Conrad lobby, you can find David Spriggs’ Holos, an awe-inspiring installation consisting of 20 individually painted acrylic planes that align to create one whirling, spherical entity. Be sure to move all the way around this piece, as its dimensionality shifts depending on your perspective.

• Continue to the Crockfords lobby, where you’ll find Samurai Cat by Hiro Ando, a contemporary take on the traditional maneki-neko, or lucky cat. Ando, a Japanese neo-pop artist, creates work that combines tradition with contemporary elements and has become well-known for his cat-like sculpture. Symbols of luck have always had a place in Las Vegas. After all, this city is built on luck, so it’s exciting to see a different take on the tradition this city is built on. Is the lucky cat a new concept?

Of course not, but the idea of taking a traditional token of good fortune, reimagining its design, and prominently fea turing it in a town flooded with horseshoes and triple sevens adds an element of identity to the property.

• The Hilton lobby features the colossal Hippo Wild Ride

By Gillie and Marc. The bronze sculpture commemorates endangered species and promotes wildlife conservation. Also in this lobby, you’ll find Michelangelo Bastiani’s Clouds and Jars, a digital installation featuring holograms of

graceful ballerinas and trapeze artists, contained within glass jars.

As you tour the property, a common theme becomes incredibly apparent: Resorts World is full of animals! And

that’s no coincidence. “We as humans relate to animals from a very young age, being given teddy bears or pets as children, or watching cartoon animals on Saturday mornings,” says Real. “The introduction of animals,

in many different forms, is meant to create a surprise, provide some delight and leave our guests with a feeling of amusement.”

On your way to the casino floor, you’ll pass the High Limit

Lounge, which houses its very own beast: Louis-Vuitton Doberman by Herb Williams. Made entirely out of crayons, the form brings whimsy to the space while enhancing its luxurious appearance. Another creature awaits on the casino

floor. Belgian artist William Sweetlove’s Cloned Bulldog with Pet Bottle awaits, to be exact. Fitted with rain boots and carrying a water bottle on its back, this sculpture represents a future in which there’s a lack of fresh drinking

water and an excess of ocean water. Sweetlove’s dadaist combination of irony, surrealism and pop art carries a clear message about climate change throughout much of his work.

The chrome-finished clone on display at Resorts World stands as a reminder of how fragile our ecosystems are, especially in a city that uses immense quantities of water despite having a dwindling water supply. Its presence forces patrons to confront the environmental impacts of wastefulness that the human race so easily commits, and possibly encourages conser vation efforts among everyone who has the pleasure of enjoying this beautiful desert oasis.

While you’re on the casino floor, make sure you get a glimpse of Jae Yong Kim’s Do nuts. These delightful, brightly

colored ceramic donuts add a lot of joy. I mean, seriously, how could you look at those without smiling?

In fact, according to Kim’s Blank Space Art web page, the Korean artist began using donuts as a symbol of greed and gluttony, but found a lot of joy in making the ceramic sweets. Over time the iconography of the donuts evolved from

greed and gluttony to have many meanings for the artist, from providing sweet relief on a hard day to representing the cheap sugary foods many living in poverty find to be most accessible to them. This pastry-themed pottery adds depth to the collection at Resorts World.

Speaking of food, you’ve done a fair amount of walking

and probably need to refuel. Luckily, there’s another piece of art you have to see at Famous Foods Street Eats. Actually, there’s two. While enjoying a nosh in this spot, you’ll find Red Hong Yi’s Tea Bag Art, a three-dimensional portrait created with 20,000 individually dyed tea bags. Contrasting many of the modern themes found

in art around the property, this installation highlights the Chinese-Malaysian artist’s cul tural roots while maintaining the ingenuity that is apparent throughout Resorts World’s collection. Also featured in Famous Foods is Yi’s 10-foottall Lucky Cat sculpture (a continuation of the feline theme). The towering sculpture constructed entirely from

gold-colored coins radiates positivity and prosperity across the entire food court.

From Famous Foods, make a short walk to RedTail, where you’ll be greeted by RedTail the sculpture. Custom made by Kevin Barry Fine Art, the brightly colored kitten emanates humor and exuberance. This anime critter even playfully holds a finger to its lips as if it’s just told you a secret. Maybe it’s reminding you: What happens in Vegas … you know the rest.

Conclude your journey with a trek to Kusa Nori, where Red Beetle by Ichwan Noor awaits. The contorted car brings the same liveliness that many of Resorts World’s sculpture do, but it also uses the car as a symbol of what Noor calls “transportation culture.”

By taking this symbol and physically reshaping it, Noor is seemingly challenging people to rethink transportation; the way we approach it, the way it affects the world around us, and ways we can do better.

Admittedly, this isn’t an exhaustive list of all the art at Resorts World. There’s Andy Warhol paintings to see in the Baccarat Salon and Genting Palace’s private dining room. There’s a propertywide digital art experience called GLOW. There’s even a limited-time-only, propertywide elephant parade to raise funds and awareness for elephant welfare and conservation.

The art at Resorts World is more than enough to satisfy even the most ravenous crav ing for high-quality art, and it’s well worth the walk. After all, why not get your steps in on vacation while looking at some sensational artwork?

The masterplanned community of Summerlin contains many smaller amazing communities, all of which have their own particular charms and amenities. One of the most exclusive is the guard-gated community of Bellacere, consisting of 54 homes built between 2000 and 2007.

In addition to its proximity to everything the Las Vegas Valley has to offer, Bellacere is also built into the par-71, 7,016-yard TPC Las Vegas Golf Course, which has hosted some of the best golfers in the world since its opening in 1996. It’s truly rarefied air, and a home has recently become available there, one that’s

perfect for larger families. Before you even see this home on the drive there, you’ll be struck by the character of the community—tree-lined streets, sidewalks on both sides of the street, walking trails, tennis courts and a community park. You’ll be envisioning many family outings before you arrive.

Then you see the curb appeal of this two-story, 4,975-square-foot estate, listed by Kamran Zand of Luxury Estates International, and you’ll be completely sold.

For starters, the home has all the space you could ever want for every member of the family, with five bedrooms (in addition to a detached casita), four and a half bathrooms and a four-car garage. It’s been completely remodeled since being built in 2003, and feels absolutely brand new. Everyone will be impressed by the level of detail throughout—es-

Explore the interior and you’ll find an executive office, a bonus room (let your imagination run wild!), a newly added upstairs loft (which is perfect for vegging out for some video game fun) and many more amenities.

Keep exploring outside the home to find a motor court, sport court, swimming pool and spa, expansive lawn area, orchard and more. As you explore, you will notice that no detail was spared. Savvy homebuy-

ers will have difficulty finding any fault here.

One of the best parts about living here is your proximity to Las Vegas’ best living, from the shopping at Downtown Summerlin to the outdoors splendor of Red Rock Conservation Area to schools like John W. Bonner (elementary), Sig Rogich (middle) and Palo Verde (high school). –Ken Miller
