Feel like a VIP at Blue Man Group’s Luxor production

instrument, from a stick that’s rapidly wobbled to a piece of PVC pipe. Even certain foods have musical properties (and, in the case of Twinkies, gumballs and marshmallows, visual properties).

The laughs come at a rapid pace here, many caused by the awkward silences as the Blue Men mentally digest the world around them. (Children throughout the audience often o er their unsolicited advice, which provides some of the show’s biggest, unscripted, laughs.) There’s audience involvement for sure, from one lucky volunteer who gets to have an “elegant” meal with the troupe to a moment where everyone stands and practices traditional concert moves from “raise the roof” to “fist pump.”

The show is over for most, but the VIP experience keeps the enjoyment going. Another show employee came to collect me and my plus-one, escorting us backstage for a tour of what no one else gets to see: Where the Blue Men (and band members) rehearse, along with a corridor featuring some of the troupe’s Las Vegas highlights throughout the years. In addition to articles highlighting their success, we got to check out sketches of concepts, along with the actual executions of those sketches throughout the show’s storied Las Vegas history.

But they saved the best for last. As we concluded our tour, we were joined by the Blue Men we had just enjoyed onstage, who posed with us for photos. We were also given a bag full of Blue Men-themed goodies like a Luxor-shaped stress ball, blinking bracelet and a souvenir cup.

I could say more about this part of the experience, but trust me: If you’re a Blue Man fan, this is an o er you’ll want to take advantage of. Now.

The superstar headlining residency shows of the modern era of Las Vegas entertainment are known as wellbuilt spectacles, with artists and venues collaborating to create major productions with all the high-tech bells and whistles imaginable.
