Do a Little Digging

Discovery. It’s a word that drives all of us in one way or another. Whether we’re an artist, an entrepreneur, a desk jockey or an archaeologist, we’re always hoping to discover something new in our respective worlds, something that excites us and keeps us going toward the next big fi nd. And nowhere is that more true than Las Vegas, a city that keeps you coming back with the promise of yet another mind-blowing discovery.

Start your “dig” with a celebration of one of the biggest discoveries in the history of archaeology: Discovering King Tut’s Tomb—The Experience at Luxor (“Pyramid Pageantry,” p. 32). True, it’s not the actual artifacts (those are all safely back in Egypt), but trust us: This is a must-visit for those with even the slightest interest in Tutankhamun.

Want to discover a sound sensation you’ve never heard before? How about the co-headlining duo of Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra at The Cosmopolitan? These two bands, both of which have moved millions with their textured tunes, are sure to be incredible complements to one another (“Finding Emo,” p. 34).

Is there a streaming show full of more discoveries than Netfl ix’s Stranger Things? We doubt it, but here’s something we bet you haven’t discovered yet: Stranger Things: The O cial Store, which o ers plenty of great souvenirs, as well as countless photos ops (“Take a Trip to the Upside Down,” p. 20).

Love a good happy hour? We’ve rounded up some of the best for you to discover this week (“Smile, It’s That Time,” p. 24). And here’s something we bet you didn’t know: If you brought your dogs, you can board them at Pawsh Palace! We’ve interviewed general manager Christal Garcia in this week’s issue ( p. 26 ).

Now go forth and do some discovering!

Tried-andTrue Illusions

Iconic duo keeps it fresh and fantastic

It’s hard to remember a time when Penn Jillette and Teller weren’t inextricably linked to Las Vegas. All told, Penn & Teller have been at it for nearly 50 years total, and a big part of their success is that they’ve never rested on laurels; never phoned it in (more on that later). And a recent show illustrated just how committed they are to that philosophy. As Jillette said at the outset, it doesn’t matter if the last show you attended was last year, last month or last week—you’re going to see something different.

Not that they haven’t kept in some quintessential moments over the years—first and foremost the show’s intro, in which pianist Mike Jones plays smooth, relaxing jazz while Jillette plays bass (he departs shortly before showtime, with Jones joking to the audience that his bass player apparently has another job somewhere).

But otherwise, Penn & Teller constantly keep their audiences guessing at what’s going to come next. At a recent performance, they placed a large jar of jelly beans onstage (this one was new to me!), asking audience members by way of large signs to guess how many it contained before the show started. The “winner” of this contest got the jar—and the privilege of doling out a few jelly beans to every single audience volunteer as they went back to their seat. It set a fun tone that kept everyone laughing throughout the night.

Penn & Teller take on both the notion of “phoning it in” (with Jillette onstage as a suit hanging on a rack and a monitor above it with his face) and “a needle in a haystack” (where you’ll learn more about different types of needles than you ever cared to). Because there’s no notion that Penn & Teller are timid to attack. The stage is like a lab—which would make them mad scientists, and us their willing test subjects. –Ken Miller

Get to Golfing

Putt around at these fantastic courses

Las Vegas has always had a vibrant golf scene, with courses nestled against the mountains, facing the desert and even facing the Strip. Some are reserved for resort guests, while others are open to all. Here’s a sampling of the variety of the many courses you can access in the Vegas area.

Two of Las Vegas’ most enjoyed courses are Cascata (1 Cascata Drive, 702.294.2005 ) and Rio Secco (2851 Grand Hills Drive, 702.777.2400), both VICI Properties that are now being run by CDN Golf Management Inc. Cascata is a gorgeously manicured course in closeby Boulder City, featuring a 418-foot waterfall, lakes and streams, plus a breathtaking backdrop of red hills surrounding the course. Rio Secco is in the prestigious Seven Hills area of the southern Vegas Valley, and is nestled among native scenery with views of the Las Vegas Strip. You’ll find Butch Harmon’s School of Golf here as well. Both are about a 30-minute drive from the Strip.

For a game that’s right on the Strip itself, consider Bali Hai (5160 S. Las Vegas Blvd., 888.427.667 8), just south of Mandalay Bay. This favorite offers easy access, as well as tropical landscaping and a tiki bar-inspired casual restaurant and bar, either before or after you’ve finished your last round.

Far north in the Las Vegas Valley is the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Course (10325 Nu-Wav Kaiv Blvd., 702.658.1400), which encompasses three courses, The Wolf, Sun Mountain and Snow Mountain, all with varying degrees of difficulty. Feeling cocky? Try The Wolf.

And although it isn’t open to everyone, if you are a guest of MGM Resorts International, you’ll want to explore the decadent Shadow Creek (866.260.0069) in the northern valley, with beautiful lake settings that have inspired players and wowed celebrities for many years. Private limos and personal caddies are just a few of the benefits you find here. –Nina

In a Hot Flash

Show is a hilarious exploration of the midlife condition

If you’re of a certain age, Menopause The Musical will surely seem familiar. Although the plot simply has four women meeting after squabbling over a piece of lingerie in a department store, it’s far more than that. During the course of the show, the symptoms of the change are explored, all through musical parodies and witty dialogue between women from all walks of life.

You’ll meet the crunchy earth mother character, the former soap star, the high-powered executive, and the

Midwest housewife, and when you’re not nodding your head in understanding, you’ll be rocking back and forth in laughter. As the women travel up and down the departments in the store, they talk about the symptoms of the change with each other, and each new symptom seems to bring a song.

The ladies belt out such gems as “Change, Change, Change” (“Chain of Fools”), “Hot Flash” (“Heat Wave”), “Looking for Food” (“Looking for Love”), “Pu , My God, I’m Dragging” (“Pu the

Magic Dragon”), “Staying Awake/Night Sweats” (“Stayin’ Alive”), and many others. As funny as the rewritten lyrics are, they’re made that much funnier when paired with the expressions on the actors’ faces.

No matter your age or gender, you’ll get a kick out of the show. And even if you’re not directly a ected by the change, you might develop sympathy for the women in your life. –Nina

Still On Fire

Celebrity chef’s mega-popular restaurant at Caesars Palace celebrates five years of signature classics

It opened five years ago on the Las Vegas Strip (and celebrated that anniversary a few months ago), but Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen is still one of the top culinary tickets in town. If you don’t make reservations, it can indeed be difficult to get a seat here. But oh, is it worth it!

For starters, upon entering, you’ll immediately feel like you’re on an episode of the celebrity chef’s long-running reality series for which the restaurant is named—a large dining room sits opposite both red and blue kitchens, and there’s plenty of activity to enjoy, from the servers and the chefs to the diners themselves. To get the maximum enjoyment from this environment, you’re going to want a signature cocktail like Notes From Gordon, a gin-based drink that blends green tea, lemongrass, peach and lemon, all topped off with a small scroll that has a Ramsay bon mot from the show (“My grandmother can cook better than that, and she’s dead!”)

If you are indeed a fan of the show, you’ve probably been wondering over the years, “What does Ramsay’s lobster risotto taste like?” Now’s your chance to find out, as

that show staple is prominently featured, as are pan-seared scallops and crispy skin salmon. Whatever your expectations are, no doubt these versions will more than live up to them.

Perhaps most coveted by Ramsay’s fans is the beef Wellington, a succulent slice of filet surrounded by puff pastry and served with potato purée, glazed root vegetables and a red wine demi-glace. It pairs wonderfully with either Brussels sprouts, wild mushrooms or baked macaroni and cheese.

Do not overdo it during your main course! You are definitely going to want dessert here, as Hell’s Kitchen features arguably the best finisher on the Strip—sticky toffee pudding, served with speculoos ice cream and the most decadent drizzle you could imagine. If you’ve had it before and want to go a different direction, not a problem. Death by Chocolate does not disappoint with its combo of fondant cake, crispy mousse pearls (both chocolate, natch), a brownie, and cookies and cream ice cream. –Ken Miller

Take a Trip to the Upside Down

I mean, who isn’t a Stranger Things fan these days? The Netflix show has gained a huge following after its first season and continues its streak of popularity as watchers love diving into the twisted world of Hawkins, Indiana.

Now fans can deep dive into all things Stranger Things with the recent opening of Stranger Things: The Official Store (located along the Las Vegas Strip outside of Showcase Mall).

The immersive experience takes guests through iconic scenes from the show: Joyce’s House, the Palace Arcade, Hawkins High School, the

Starcourt Mall; and even Vecna’s Attic—where you can pose for pics with the demon! You can also take pics with the menacing Demogorgon, but be careful he doesn’t bite your head off!

Along with interactive exhibits, guests can snatch up a huge, huge collection of some of the coolest Stranger Things gear—T-shirts, accessories, games, toys, collectibles, souvenirs, hoodies and more.

“We are thrilled to bring this retail experience to Las Vegas and give Stranger Things fans a chance to celebrate their love of this global phenomenon,” Greg

Lombardo, head of experiences at Netflix, said in a news release. “We’re continuing to find new ways to engage with the fans and drive excitement for one of our most popular series. Stranger Things: The Official Store in Las Vegas is the largest store we’ve opened and is packed with ’80s vibes and brand new, unique immersive elements and merchandise that Las Vegas residents and visitors alike will be stoked to be the first to experience.” –

Beyond the Ocean

Great seafood is only the beginning at this Strip delight

Over the decades, chef Shaun Hergatt has compiled quite a few noteworthy honors, from Michelin stars and James Beard nominations to high rankings on everything from the New York Times to Conde Nast Traveler. And he brings that sterling reputation to Caviar Bar, a combination of luxurious décor, tasty cocktails and, of course, a caviar menu, one that rivals any other restaurant on the Strip (or the world).

The cocktail menu has been designed to get the maximum amount of flavor from the selection of seafood and sundry other delights. Whiskey fans will adore the JP Old-Fashioned, made with Suntory Toki, lilikoi and shiso, while vodka connoisseurs will want to check out the Afternoon Tea, made with Ketel One, Timeless Tea, Earl Gray, toasted sesame and lemon.

If you’ve got the budget, you can go pretty crazy here with the Caspy Caviar selection. If you’re not sure what you want, opt for the flight, which includes Kaluga and Golden Kaluga, Osetra and Golden Osetra served with potato espuma, crème fraiche and chives.

But don’t stop there! Hergatt has packed his menu with so much more, from shrimp toast and crab cake to lobster rolls and Hudson Valley seared foie gras. There’s also a great raw bar, and the hamachi, bluefin toro and salmon tartare are highly recommended. You can also enjoy spaghetti pomodoro, spicy fried chicken and an 8-ounce Australian wagyu. –Ken Miller

Christal Garcia

General manager does it all for the love of dogs

For Christal Garcia, general manager of Pawsh Palace, dogs are a passion in both her work life and her home life.

Growing up in Oregon, she dedicated a lot of her time to volunteering at animal foundations, and when she moved to Las Vegas in 2015 she continued that dedication. While she has spent more than a decade in retail management, by 2019 she finally turned her love for dogs into a career when she joined Pawsh Palace.

“Pawsh Palace is a five-star dog hotel,” Garcia says. “We’re not like a lot

of facilities that put the dogs in kennels, we have open play for them. We don’t have breed restrictions. … We send photos of clients’ dogs, which they love. We have a staff overnight, so someone is always there. We take them outside to play and can comfort them all night.”

Since it’s summer, the Pawsh Palace crew even breaks out the pools, splash pads and bubbles for the dogs to play in. The facility offers four different levels of boarding, from standard rooms all the way up to big suites with extra amenities.

Customers can purchase Pawsh Palace-branded accessories, toys and treats in addition to Christal Garcia’s own line of treats, Tail Waggin’ dog cookies. If you don’t necessarily want to board your dog, Pawsh also offers grooming, hair drying, teeth cleaning, nail clipping and more. The luxurious doggy facility is open 365 days a year. –KM

When Garcia is not sharing her time with dogs at work, she’s sharing her time with her two wolf-rottweiler breeds at home. “They are the sweetest things ever,” she says. They also act as service dogs for her son, who has autism—Garcia personally trained them both. She also created her own line of dog treats out of necessity when she discovered that the store-bought treats she was giving her two dogs made them sick. “I just love dogs,” she says. “Everything about them; they’re such a comfort.” –Kiko

If you want to find Creole cooking on the Strip, get yourself a reservation at Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House. Celebrity chef Lagasse’s venue is one of the most revered restaurants in Las Vegas, and features those Creole and Louisiana flavors prominently.

Beautiful amber hues punctuate the dining room, and the bar is an art piece all on its own. For your dinner, drinks are a good idea—try the smoked maple margarita, a fragrant sip with Montezuma blanco tequila, barrel-smoked maple syrup, orange liqueur, and lemon and lime juice. Other great options include Emeril’s strawberry lemonade, which gets a kick from Burnett’s citrus vodka, and the Original Sazerac, a classic New Orleans cocktail, here with Branson Phantom cognac, Peychaud’s Bitters and Pernod absinthe.

Although you’ll find plenty on the menu other than seafood, it’s seafood

that’s the star in all the menu sections. For your appetizers, try Emeril’s New Orleans barbecue shrimp, slathered in sauce and served with a rosemary biscuit, or the Spanish octopus a la plancha

with hummus and olive salad. Follow that up with gumbo, rich with andouille sausage, shrimp and okra.

You can indulge in fresh oysters with cucumber and seaweed mignonette and habanero pepper water; Alaskan king crab legs; Creole boiled gulf shrimp cocktail; and Hawaiian ahi poke. If you want to try it all, get the chef’s chilled seafood selection, featuring Maine lobster tail, Alaskan king crab legs, Creole boiled shrimp and oysters in two sizes.

waned in popularity since being introduced— the Creole seafood boil features andouille sausage, mussels, clams, jumbo shrimp, corn cobettes and potatoes anointed in Creole garlic butter. Ora King salmon, cedar plank grilled trout, Mediterranean sea bass and the Carolina Gold jambalaya with jumbo Gulf shrimp and andouille sausage (Carolina Gold is

a vaunted rice) also make the cut. Plus, you can choose from other fish and seafood, depending on what’s the freshest option available.

There are traditional entrées, too: Creole buttermilk fried chicken; a Creekstone Farms prime ribeye steak; the surf and turf, with a 6-ounce Creekstone farms filet and Maine lobster tail; or the decadent Japanese A5 Wagyu filet mignon. Classic sides include mac and cheese, amped up with white cheddar

and Gouda, Anson Mills creamy grits, and sautéed mushrooms. Crab, lobster, Gulf shrimp and scallops are available as add-ons to your entrées. But possibly the best reason to dine at an Emeril Lagasse restaurant comes in a triangular form—Emeril’s banana cream pie is covered in chocolate shavings and caramel sauce. Really, it’s lucky that you aren’t presented with the dessert menu first. Otherwise, who would ever make it to an entrée?

Take advantage of a stellar prix fixe menu featuring wine partnerships with different winemakers each month. This month, enjoy Evenstad Reserve brut among others, items like Pacific halibut and crispy pork belly. Cost is $155 per person plus tax and gratuity. Call for reservations.

Imagine it’s the year 5387 A.D. Archaeologists make a dramatic discovery in the American Southwest, where the Luxor pyramid in The Entertainment Capital of the World was unearthed and found to have a perfectly preserved mezzanine level. They find an Atrium Showroom, guarded by the beautiful Fantasy showgirls and where a mischievous deity named Carrot Top maintained a collection of sacred amusing artifacts. Even after stumbling upon those riches, they are unprepared for the wealth of relics that lay ahead as they explore the chambers inside Discovering King Tut’s Tomb—The Experience

Of the 64 monarchs of Egypt’s New Kingdom buried in the Valley of the Kings, only Tutankhamun’s tomb was left undisturbed by looters. King Tut died young, reigning for roughly 10 years, but images of his likeness are some of the most iconic visual representations of Ancient Egypt. A large-scale representation of his 3,000-year-old golden death mask above the entrance makes locating the attraction e ortless for contemporary explorers.

The story of Tut’s tomb begins with archaeologist Howard

Carter, whose persistence paid o , some legends have it, when a 12-year-old water boy named Hussein Hassan Abdel Rassuhl stumbled across rock-carved steps to the tomb on Nov. 4, 1922. Carter and his team broke into an antechamber filled with treasure. They went on to find a

lower-level annex, a sarcophagus and nested co ns of King Tut.

It took them three months to meticulously uncover the mummy itself, but becoming familiar with the features at Discovering King Tut’s Tomb is a far less arduous process. It is possible to peer inside a replicated sarcophagus and look closely at demons, gods and protective symbols depicted on golden shrines much as they would have appeared to Carter himself.

Some artifacts are simple home items. Drinking vessels, tableware and bowls are included along with statues, statuettes and carvings that would have been common items of domestic décor. Sandals and walking sticks the crippled king could have used are part of the collection, as well as a crook and flail a royal would have held to the chest as a symbol of authority. The presence of gold is ubiquitous, from the casing to a polished bronze mirror to models of boats and chariots.

Replications of Tut’s three nested golden co ns and his golden shrine provides climactic dazzle to Imagine Exhibitions’ homage to an archaeological wonder that went undiscovered for 3,000 years and can now be part of anyone’s rediscovery of Las Vegas in general, and Luxor in particular. Enter Discovering King Tut’s Tomb—The Experience, and modern life is left behind with little danger of disturbing an actual mummy or becoming the recipient of a resulting curse.

Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra amplify each other on their co-headlining tour

Jimmy Eat World and Manchester Orchestra didn’t just agree to support each other on their co-headlining The Amplified Echoes Tour. Each band chose a song from the others’ catalog to cover and release on singles. Jimmy Eat World, Emo’s breakthrough band, covered “Telepath” from Manchester Orchestra’s soaring, sprawling 2021 album The Million Masks of God, while the latter recorded “Table for Glasses” from Jimmy Eat World’s 1999 album Clarity

Appreciation for that album slowly grew after “The Middle” from 2001’s Bleed American made Jimmy Eat World pop-punk superstars, and the danger of

34 | 7.16.23 Las Vegas Magazine
Jimmy Eat World photo by Jimi Giannatti

being one-hit wonders was alleviated by follow-up hit “Sweetness.” Both songs became alternative rock radio staples, with the house-party video for “The Middle” going into heavy rotation on MTV and “Sweetness” influencing lyrical hooks for years to come with its catchy “Whoa oh-oh-oh-oh” line.

For a act from Mesa, Ariz., that been signed and dropped by a major label before recording Bleed American on their own, “The Middle” was a hopeful pop-punk paean that resonated with teenagers coping with post-traumatic stress experienced in the wake of 9/11. It was likely played at every house party attended by

future Manchester Orchestra members Andy Hull and Robert McDowell as well.

The two guitarists teamed up in Atlanta with the band’s first lineup, which released a debut album in 2006. Manchester Orchestra’s 2013 album Cope, featuring current bassist Andy Prince and drummer Tim Very, moved the band’s sound in a heavy direction before Hull and McDowell became involved with the soundtrack for 2016 film Swiss Army Man. “Cinematic” became an oft-used adjective to describe subsequent albums A Black Mile to the Surface and The Million Masks of God.

The Valley of Vision, a six-song continuation of the avant-garde, explorative, imagistic, progressive Southern gothic path they’ve been trekking along, was released in March. Adjectives can’t properly evoke the Manchester Orchestra aural experience that fits comfortably in playlists alongside My Morning Jacket, The Smiths, mid-period Pink Floyd and King Crimson’s In the Court of the Crimson King. “The Silence” from Black Mile is a particular favorite of Hull’s and is the song that broke

the band into the mainstream thanks to a 10-minute black-and-white video that went viral and currently has more than 152 million views.

Songs really became suites, or “cool monsters” according to Hull, on that album. Meanwhile “The Middle” marched toward becoming a classic, becoming revived on film soundtracks and a 2016 commercial for Apple Music in which Taylor Swift dances around to the song and sings into her lip gloss brush as she’s getting ready to go out.

Jimmy Eat World reinforced fan devotion with 2004 album Futures and 2007’s Chase This Light, which contained setlist stalwarts such as “Pain” and “Big Casino,” respectively. The resurgence of interest in the emo era via themed club nights and the When We Were Young festival has inspired the band, which consists of the same lineup that recorded Clarity. Frontman Jim Adkins is in good voice as the quartet observes its 30th anniversary by continuing to deliver post-emo rock with incandescent enthusiasm.

Adults-only revue ROUGE provides a scintillating night of sexy variety

Expectations will be high for a show that bills itself as “the sexiest show in Vegas” as ROUGE does. The nightly neo-burlesque show does not disappoint, with a wink and a 20-member cast of really, really, good-looking performers whose costume changes sometimes leave them exposed during their steamy, sensual acts.

Sexualized skits alternate with acrobatic feats and choreography as Dr. Libido, a self-proclaimed “surgeon of sex” dressed in steampunk finery and a white top hat, plays the master of ceremonies for the proceedings.

The good doctor, assisted by buxom Nurse Naughty, seems to have an accent with a New Orleans twang. That and an early sketch set in 18th-century France are aspects of the show most directly tied to its title. That is, the French word for “red” lends itself well to presenting Parisian-style entertainment or Crescent City ribaldry, but ROUGE expands beyond being a modern version of Folies Bergère.

That long-running show at the Tropicana tried to revise its formulas

36 | 7.16.23 Las Vegas Magazine

of showgirls mixed with musical numbers unsuccessfully before closing in 2009. It really needed a complete overhaul to reach the level that ROUGE occupies now. One key element that makes ROUGE click with audiences is the breaking of the barrier between the stage and showroom. Performers with a flair for bondage fashion engage in a different kind of immersion before the show, with some pairing up on platforms for erotic entanglements and others mingling with guests. Sometimes they get very close, but like most of their professional peers, ROUGE cast members are

good at reading the crowd for those who might be amenable to a close encounter. The same applies to Dr. Libido, who chooses a few audience members to flirt with and lightly embarrass throughout the show. There are participation segments once the crowd is warmed up from all the heat coming from the stage. The action is augmented by large video screens at the side of the stage that provide close-ups of the gorgeous cast members. Strap acts have been done before, but never in a tantalizing tandem that ends with both performers forming a star with their bodies. “Light My Fire” kicks

off a soundtrack that includes Nina Simone’s version of “I Put a Spell on You,” which captures the sophisticated spirit ROUGE exudes throughout the various acts of acrobatic strength and gravity-defying choreography.

There are beautiful bodies everywhere. There are transfixing acts such as a siren splashing in an oversized martini glass, hand balancers and full-cast dance routines. And there are costumes, some of which leave little to the imagination, others that evoke laughter.

ROUGE creator Hanoch Rosènn combined his experience developing previous productions Extravaganza and WOW—The Vegas Spectacular with “sexpertise” to evolve a concept of risqué variety show as adult playground, the foundation for what could indeed be the sexiest show in Vegas. How successful that realized vision turned out is a matter for the eyes of the beholders.

Soul of Motown is one of the most popular musical tribute shows in Las Vegas, and the undeniable onstage chemistry between Sean Stewart Godfrey and Brandon Godfrey is a big part of the show’s success. The two talented singers were married in 2020 after launching the show with their castmates at the Westgate Cabaret in 2019, a rollicking tour through some of the most beloved music in American history that will have you dancing in the aisles. It’s a can’t-miss production, but it hits an emotional peak when these artists duet.

WAS THERE AN INSTANT SPARK WHEN YOU FIRST MET BACK IN 2018 WHILE PERFORMING IN TENNESSEE?

Brandon: When I first came in for the audition and saw her onstage, I just thought, she is beautiful. The whole night, I could care less about the other guys performing. I was in another show at the time and had to drive back to Virginia, and I told my friend that night that there’s this girl in the show, and that’s gonna be my girl. But I had to bide my time.

Sean: It was six months before I had any idea whatsoever. Everybody else seemed to be in on the secret but me!

Brandon and Sean Stewart Godfrey’s energy helps give ‘Motown’ its soul

38 | 7.16.23 Las Vegas Magazine

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO BE ONSTAGE TOGETHER PERFORMING THOSE CLASSIC DUETS?

Brandon: You don’t realize what type of energy you exude. With us, there’s always been a connection that reads well to the audience.

Sean: Because we’re married, we gel perfectly onstage. It works for us, and it’s funny, because we had chemistry to begin with. Even before we were together, people who knew nothing about us would come up and talk to us, thinking we’re together.

IT’S CLEAR THAT YOU LOVE PERFORMING TOGETHER, AND I’M SURE IT HELPS THAT THIS IS SOME OF THE MOST FAMILIAR FEEL-GOOD MUSIC OF ALL TIME.

Sean: It gets no better. Motown has the ability to bring you out whatever you’re feeling. It can shift your spirit.

Brandon: There’s a timbre, a sound that Motown brings, a beat that Motown brings, and it just makes you feel something. That’s the feeling Motown was going for back in its time. There was a lot going on, those were tough times. Motown makes you forget about everything that’s going on and says, I’m here for a good time. It exudes love.

WHAT SETS SOUL OF MOTOWN APART FROM OTHER CONCERT-STYLE MUSICALS IN LAS VEGAS?

Sean: A lot of other shows are doing impersonations or other things to take you back to that era. The thing we love about this show is we can bring our own twist to it, individualize it to give our own perception of that song. It’s a modern Motown concert, a tribute to the artists from our hearts.

DO YOU HAVE FAVORITE TRACKS YOU STILL LOVE TO SING?

Brandon: “Tracks of My Tears” is probably my favorite. It’s a classic and it tells a story, and I’m a big theater person. It’s a pretty song to stand and sing, but when you get the story and the emotion behind the song, you feel like you’ve never heard it that way before.

Sean: There are some (songs by) artists that were not Motown artists. Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” will always be my favorite song, and it was originally done by Dolly Parton, who is from Tennessee, my home state.

Luxurious Surroundings

Home in The Ridges at Summerlin merges art and nature

Las Vegas is home to many luxurious master-planned communities, ones that offer the highest-quality homes, amenities and spectacular views of the valley and its surroundings. (One thing you quickly learn about buying homes here: Views come at a premium.)

One of the best examples of these is The Ridges in Summerlin, a guard-gated, master-planned community close to Red Rock Conservation Area. And a property has recently become available there, a sprawling estate that has the finest options you could imagine.

Listed by Ivan Sher of IS LUXURY, this 12,991-square-foot, five-bedroom, eight-bedroom, two-story home has plenty of room for even the largest families.

Everything about this home, designed and built by Marmol Radziner, screams attention to

detail. You’ll find a five-car garage, so you can bring your entire fleet with no worries. Fine art, exquisite design and unparalleled architecture are everywhere you look. Start with the commercial-grade steel and concrete construction, which create about as solid a foundation as you could imagine. But then add in floor-to-ceiling windows and it’s almost impossible to find a space throughout this massive home that isn’t naturally lit.

The overall feeling you get from this home is one of space; every

room has plenty of space to stretch out, and that includes the bedrooms, all of which are spaced for maximum privacy.

There’s so much to enjoy, you won’t know where to start. The centerpiece is the Italian Scavolini kitchen, featuring the finest fixtures and top-of-the-line appliances. Keep going and you’ll find an indoor basketball court (no disturbing neighbors with late-night pickup games!), media room for a next-level cinematic experience, wine cellar, and, most eye-grabbing of all, a

James Turrell Skyspace—this sanctuary merges art and nature for an ultra-relaxing experience.

Head outdoors to enjoy almost 1.5 acres of impeccably landscaped grounds, panoramic views of the Strip, golf course and nearby mountains. And by all means, take advantage of all The Ridges has to offer, from golf to an elaborate trail system. –Ken Miller
