Celebration of a Life

I’ve had the privilege of seeing Barry Manilow’s residency show several times at Westgate Las Vegas while living in Las Vegas, and each time is more memorable than the last. I feel like every time I go, something happens to make it beyond memorable. The most recent example? I went to see his Christmas show on a Friday night, only to discover once I was in line that he had canceled the previous night’s performance because of a health scare—then proceeded to play two shows in a row the following day! For a man who was 79 at the time, that’s ... impressive! But it’s all part and parcel of the man’s legacy, one he will add to in a big way this week.

Las Vegas Magazine dedicates this issue to one of our city’s most beloved performers and the history he is about to make: This week, Manilow will perform his 637th show at Westgate Las Vegas, breaking the record established by Elvis Presley at the same showroom (“For the Record,” p. 32). Check out our interview with the legend, who talks about his journey to this milestone. Trust us, it’s as memorable as his shows!

If you need more live entertainment after witnessing this historic feat, consider getting tickets to these other hot tickets: The iHeartRadio Music Festival at T-Mobile Arena, which packs in more than a dozen of music’s top acts into one weekend (“You Can Have It All,” p. 18); Life is Beautiful, a downtown festival that combines music, food, art and more (“Listen. Eat. Dance. Drink.,” p. 24); Erika Jayne, made famous in Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, who has started her very own show at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay (“She’s All In,” p. 12); and Todrick Hall, a man of many talents, who also performs at the House of Blues (“Music and Moves,” p. 17 ).

Now go and be a part of Las Vegas history!

From TV to stage, Erika Jayne is ready to dazzle Las Vegas She’s All In

Since 2015, Erika Jayne (also known as Erika Girardi) has polarized TV viewers of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. But whether you love the blonde bombshell or not, one can’t deny that she shines as a singer/performer. In 2007 Jayne launched her music career and climbed the hot dance club charts with her catchy, edgy singles. Now the reality TV maven brings all her hits to the Las Vegas stage at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay for her show, Bet It All on Blonde, playing various dates through Dec. 16. Las Vegas Magazine’s Kiko Miyasato spoke with Jayne while she was rehearsing in L.A. just ahead of the start of her residency.

Who came up with the name of the show, Bet It All on Blonde?

My very dear friend Jerrod Blandino, who was the creator of Too Faced Cosmetics and Polite Society. The reason I asked him is because he’s so used to naming products and he’s a creative genius, and I was thinking, ‘What do I call this show?’ and I reached out to him and told him I was stuck. He told me, ‘Give me five minutes.’ And he texts me and at the very end it says, “Bet It All on Blonde.” I read it and I was like, ‘That’s it!’ It’s a nod to Vegas. It’s a nod to my return to myself and hey, we’re all out here betting on something.

How long has the residency been in the works?

Since the top of 2023. It came together quickly and that’s why you know it’s meant to be.

Why did you choose to do your show in Las Vegas?

I mean, why wouldn’t I choose Las Vegas? First of all, I have loved Las Vegas since I was a child, and then coming to Las Vegas as an adult having visited many times, and when I did my book tour and I did a signing at Crystals and someone asked, ‘Would you ever have a show in Las Vegas?’ And I said, ‘It would be a dream of mine.’ And here’s a dream of mine coming true. I love the city; I love everything that Las Vegas is about, and I just think there’s no better place to have a residency.

Can you fill our readers in on what they can expect at your show?

It’s 90 minutes of fantasy, love, escape, glitz, glamour and fun. I’m doing my old material, new songs and some clever covers.

What songs are you covering in the show?

I went live on my Instagram and asked my fan base, ‘What songs would you like to see me cover?’ And I took one of

the suggestions, which was very clever, and I put it in the show. I don’t want to tell you what song ’cause I don’t want to ruin it, but it’ll be easy to spot and the artist that I’m covering is a big inspiration of mine.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna. I’m a child of the ’80s. Those three performers for me—musically, live shows, costumes, makeup, aesthetics—that’s the holy trinity.

With all the drama on the Real Housewives, and in your real life, and your life as a performer, how do you compartmentalize it all?

The only time I’m really truly present in life 100% is when I’m onstage, because I’m totally connected to the moment, connected to the people, the audience. The exchange of energy—there’s nothing like a live show; singing and dancing and entertaining and being under those lights and in the moment. It’s a very special place and anyone that also performs I think will tell you that, that’s why we keep doing it over and over again. There’s nothing like it.

Q&A

Watch Closely

Strip magician is constantly improving this successful show

For closeup magician Mat Franco, entertainment is all about reinvention. Heck, it’s even in the title of his hit show on the Strip, Magic Reinvented Nightly, a nod to the fact that he’s able to customize each show to the specific audience there that night.

But as Franco, one of the winners of America’s Got Talent (which led to his Linq show debuting in 2015), celebrates his eighth anniversary this year, he’s just getting started. Just as he reinvents his show every night, Franco has reinvented the show itself, adding many illusions, special effects and comedic elements to the all-ages show.

“Based on the long-running success of the show, we made huge investments in the theater and the show itself,” Franco said in an interview with Las Vegas Magazine earlier this year. “It’s exciting to see things happening and things in motion, and celebrating the small wins of each step in the process.”

But despite any changes Franco may make in any one show, one thing is going to always remain constant: his connection with the audience. Franco is a master in banter, drawing out even the most

introverted customers to get them to give him juicy tidbits he can use later. In one performance I attended, he spent minutes talking to a clearly inebriated woman, coming up with dialogue that turned the potentially awkward moment into a comedy tangent to treasure.

Not to downplay the illusions themselves—far from it! When Franco displays the skills that won him a million dollars (and the distinction of being the first magician to win AGT ), you will be picking your jaw off the floor numerous times. Highlights include a great bit with ramen noodles and an audience member’s money, a sleight-of-hand demonstration in which he pulls cards seemingly out of thin air, and a bit with a cardboard tube and a bottle of wine that may break your mind.

You may find yourself asking over and over again, “How did he do that?” Franco would look you right in your face and ask: “Why do you care?” Because it’s more about the way you feel, and on that basis, Franco has reinvented the Las Vegas magic show. –Ken

Man of many talents hits Las Vegas to strut his stuff

It seems nearly impossible to be a fan of reality TV and musical theater and not be affected in at least some small way by Todrick Hall. Where to begin with this man of many talents? Obviously he can sing; anyone who heard him audition for the ninth season of American Idol will attest to that fact. But that’s just the beginning of this man’s entertainment journey, one that has seen him in a seven degrees-of-Kevin-Bacon connection with stars of every stripe.

A noted choreographer as well, Hall has served as a judge and choreographer on RuPaul’s Drag Race, and assisted in the choreography of Beyoncé’s “Blow” music video, while his singing chops took him to The Masked Singer (he was Bull!), Kinky Boots on Broadway (he was Lola!) and Chicago at the West End (he was Billy Flynn!). He’s released several albums, and garnered millions of views on YouTube with his musical parodies.

As you’ll see during his House of Blues show, Hall is a master showman, one who can combine great pipes with smooth moves. This is a man with visions of joining the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) elite, and given his career path, it’s hard to believe he won’t accomplish that feat. –Ken Miller

You Can Have It All

Two-day festival on the Strip truly brings in something for everyone

Sometimes the challenge of going to see a concert in Las Vegas is that you’re torn between what show to see—many times, major headliners are often competing at various venues on the Strip, making the selection process agonizing. But not this week! The iHeartRadio Music Festival is bringing together some great acts, some of whom just played Vegas, others who haven’t been here for a while. But together, they’ll create an unforgettable weekend for fans of every music stripe.

As tragic as the death of Kurt Cobain was, the band that rose from the ashes of Nirvana, Foo Fighters, has been a mainstay of modern rock since 1994, and founder, lead vocalist and guitarist Dave Grohl has been one of the genre’s best ambassadors, showing not only remarkable songwriting abilities, but humility and a genuinely great sense of humor. The band’s influences range from everything from The Beatles to Queen to punk rock, and their energy resonates to this day with 11 albums. Fans will no doubt be expecting favorites like “Learn to Fly,” “Times Like These” and “Low,” but there should be plenty of surprises as well—Grohl always likes to mix things up.

Kelly Clarkson, who just fi nished up a mini-residency at Planet Hollywood Resort in support of her latest album, Chemistry, is once again ready to prove why she’s arguably the busiest superstar in the industry. Expect singles like “Since U Been Gone,” as well as plenty of new material that explores her growing empowerment following her 2020 divorce.

The slate has so many more powerhouses set to deliver unforgettable sets: Singer/songwriter Lenny Kravitz (“Fly Away”); rock band Fall Out Boy (“Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down”); singer/ songwriter Miguel (“Sure Thing”); singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow (“All I Wanna Do”); hip-hop group Public Enemy (“Fight the Power”); country artist Tim McGraw (“Live Like You Were Dying”); rapper Travis Scott (“SICKO MODE”); R&B group TLC (“No Scrubs”); and many, many more. Here’s to confl ict-free entertainment! –Ken Miller

A Gourmet Gallery

Elevated dishes make for a wonderful meal

At Wally’s Wine & Spirits in Resorts World Las Vegas, the coming weeks mean more than the turning of the seasons; they mean that the summer menu will give way to fall.

And while you still can order those special summer dishes until Sept. 22, you won’t want to miss some of the signature items that Wally’s Wine & Spirits has nearly all the time. Those stellar dishes include chorizo-spiced grilled Spanish octopus, grilled salmon, a buffalina pizza with sweet pickled chili and Italian basil, classic steak

tartare with shaved truffle, and wagyu tomahawk. And the Wally Burger is a longtime favorite on the menu.

For a luxurious meal, opt for either caviar service or a decadent cheese and charcuterie plate. Four separate types of caviar from Kavairi Paris are available, with prices starting at $155. It’s served with seaweed blini crème fraîche and pommes maxim (potato wafers).

The choices for cheese and charcuterie are extensive and come from all over the globe—cheddar from England sits alongside German blue cheese,

Spanish ham and Brooklyn-cured salami. Three or five selections are standard, but you can add more on (and you’ll probably want to).

As befits the name, there are so many wines and spirits to choose from. The walls are lined with bottles of every imaginable variety. In fact, the venue acts both as restaurant and gourmet market, with more than 8,000 items available. Enjoy! –Nina King

Sequins of Success

Liberace exhibit showcases the iconic entertainer

Liberace was once a ubiquitous presence in Las Vegas. At the height of his fame, he had the most in-demand residency at the resort on Paradise Avenue now owned and operated by Westgate Las Vegas. He held court at his own restaurant at the Liberace Plaza on Tropicana Avenue, which also housed the Liberace Museum. Both venues would close, but the Liberace Foundation’s collection of clothes, cookbooks, memorabilia and more lives on at the Nevada State Museum inside Springs Preserve in Liberace: Real and Beyond .

The exhibit, which runs through Dec. 31, opened a little more than three years after centennial observations of Liberace’s birthday. He first performed in Las Vegas in 1944, but by the time he began playing the Riviera in 1955 in Las Vegas, he was a pop-culture phenomenon, having gone from performing at hotel chains and Hollywood supper clubs to films and his own television series. Along the way, the classically trained pianist took showmanship to places it had never been before, including tickling the ivories of ornate pianos being wheeled onstage in elaborate venicles. Candelabras, religious items, art, personal effects and sparkling accoutrements and wardrobe items he was famous for are on display. Liberace’s presence is still palpable in Las Vegas, but through Dec. 31 it’s possible to see his sequins of success in person in the Nevada State Museum. –Matt Kelemen

Back for its 10th year, festival packs in three days of fun

Odds are you already have your tickets and have mapped out your plan for enjoying Life is Beautiful . But in the off chance that you hadn’t put the downtown arts, culinary and musical festival on your Las Vegas to-do-list this weekend (or have decided last minute you want to get in on all the action), we point you in the direction of just a few of

the highlights over the three days of festivities:

For fans of cocktails, LIB comes through with a bevy of options throughout the festival grounds. Famed mixologists from all over the valley show off their talents with stations set up for cocktail tastings and specialty recipes. The expert mixologists whip up interesting

and innovative flavors, and guests can sidle up to various bars placed throughout the festival to whet their whistles. Local fave brewery Big Dog’s Brewing Company is also introducing its Life is Beautiful 10th anniversary original craft beers to celebrate the special occasion. Two new recipes are available: Cool as a Cucumber, an American craft lager

infused with fresh cucumbers and lime; and the A Beautiful Haze, a West Coast-style hazy IPA with notes of passion fruit, peach, grapefruit, pineapple and pine.

For more cocktail fun, head over to the Western Hotel, where artist collective Meow Wolf takes over the 13,000-square-foot vacant space that’s been transformed into a “multi-dimensional, interactive art exhibit” named Party in the SubOrbs that not only features art installations and performers but specially crafted cocktail options. Order one of the unique sips and stroll through the motel as you enter into a dreamlike atmosphere.

Tons of parties are taking place all over the city, too, and luckily you just have to flash your LIB wristband to get in for free at some of them, including: John Summit (Sept. 19) at Omnia nightclub; Alesso (Sept. 21) and Steve Aoki (Sept. 22) at Hakkasan nightclub; Louis the Child (Sept. 21) and Zedd (Sept. 23) at Zouk Nightclub; and Sofi Tukker (Sept. 23) at Marquee nightclub.

And we can’t forget the music— five stages host various musical and artistic acts, including Las Vegas’ own residency shows. At the Down-

town Stage, check out: Jabbawockeez (Sept. 24 at 7:25 p.m.), Magic Mike Live (Sept. 23 at 7:50 p.m.) and Cirque du Soleil (Sept. 22 at 7:25 p.m.). (Sept. 23), The 1975 (Sept. 23), Kim Petras (Sept. 24), and Odesza (Sept. 24).

Working hard is the love language of this GM Kara Oyama

Working hard is just part of who Kara Oyama is. Today, she’s the general manager of bars and lounges at AREA15, but before this job she was climbing the ladder consistently and successfully during her time in Las Vegas.

Oyama spent seven years as a cocktail server in her home state of Hawaii before she moved to Vegas 10 years ago and pursued a career in bartending. She’s helped open The Cosmopolitan as part of the bar team and worked for Tao restaurant and dayclub. She has also worked in management for the

Hakkasan Group, where she helped to oversee the company’s various hot spots, including Omnia. “I was the first female manager for operations in the whole company,” she proudly says.

Two years ago she got recruited by AREA15, joining as the events operations manager, and she recently stepped into her current role.

Keeping up with all her responsbilities in such a massive space definitely keeps Oyama on her toes, she says, but she likes to work hard—she always has.

Brunch and dinner at Bardot Brasserie bring equal delight

Whether it’s brunch or dinner, live out your French culinary dreams at Michael Mina’s Bardot Brasserie.

This Aria hot spot is an absolute gem, and the turn-of-the-century décor is so charming. Bardot Brasserie channels that

old-school vibe so well, with dark woods, glass panels and tile floors throughout. You can feel yourself being transported from the moment you step inside. You can ask for your preference for seating, but we recommend the tables surrounding the elegant yet welcoming bar.

Stop in for brunch and check out such goodies as a packed pastry basket including a chocolate croissant, Nutella brioche and raspberry Danish. Or try French toast, brioche highlighted by custard, vanilla

mascarpone and almond brittle. There are plenty of cocktails to sip alongside these, including several Bloody Marys (normal and spicy), beer, cider and wine.

Share steak tartare with your group or nibble on avocado toast on a toasted croissant with radishes to start. As befits a French restaurant, seafood abounds, from the poached mussels with sausage, shallots and country bread to smoked

salmon or blue crab Benedicts with bearnaise sauce.

You can also indulge in a Bardot classic, a sourdough duck confit waffle with poached eggs or macaroni gratinée (essentially mac and cheese on steroids).

Opt for dinner service instead and you may want to start with escargot, that classic French dish with garlic and cultured butter. Deviled eggs are topped

with Petrossian caviar and chives. Mouthwatering cheese and charcuterie are presented in a number of different ways, but for the fullest experience, order all of it—jambon de Paris, pâté grandmere, Reading raclette and couronne de Fontenay are just some of the delectable possibilities.

For your entrée, it’s hard to not consider steak frites, but roast chicken, roasted swordfish or filet mignon may have even more appeal. The ratatouille gnocchi with Provencal tomatoes and charred eggplant makes for a excellent vegetarian option. If you feel like going all out, the Bardot Wellington is 12 ounces, with Bayonne ham, black truffle duxelles and Perigourdine sauce served with pommes purée. It serves two, so get someone else on board. There are several accompaniments to add on, from Maine lobster and fresh black truffle to seared foie gras.

At dessert, order the Livingston & Monroe, a cocktail with SelvaRey cacao rum, St. George NOLA coffee and espresso, or a tawny port (there are several to choose from). For a more traditional-style dessert, try the espresso crème brulée.

Barry Manilow rewrites the history books this week

Barry Manilow hadn’t planned on having as momentous of an 80th year as he’s been having: In May, The New York Pops celebrated its 40th birthday with a Carnegie Hall gala dedicated to Manilow’s music; later that month, he began a five-night run at Radio City Music Hall, where he was joined by the leads of his musical Harmony, which opens on Broadway in November; and a summer tour preceded his return to Las Vegas, where he is on track to break Elvis Presley’s record for the most performances in the iconic International Theater.

Manilow never met Elvis, but he did stay in the original Elvis Suite when Westgate Las Vegas was The Hilton. “It was an older suite, but it was huge,” Manilow said during an August interview with Las Vegas Magazine. “It was the entire floor, the entire 30th floor, so I did get a sense of where he actually stayed when he was there.”

The 30th floor was remodeled shortly after Manilow’s Hilton 1985 debut. He stays in the current Elvis Suite when he flies into Vegas for his Thursday-Saturday Barry Manilow: The Hits Come Home shows. For Manilow, it was love at first sight when he saw the stage where The King reigned for 636 shows. Arenas enable him to take his music to the masses, but he considers the stage and audience capacity at the International Theater perfect for what he does.

“I like traveling into the audience,” said Manilow. “I have trouble being as intimate as I want to be with an arena. It’s fun and it’s exciting, but it’s a whole different kind of feeling than the Westgate. The Westgate is the perfect room for me. Out of all the rooms that I’ve ever played, this is the one for me. If I was building one for myself, this is the size that I would have built.”

Anyone who’s witnessed Manilow perform “Copacabana” at the venue

would agree, as set design and a flight of stairs allow Manilow to perform above the audience as he sings of music, passion and fashion. It’s a place where Fanilows the world over can make a pilgrimage to their favorite singer, where songs transport them to happier times and longtime fans dance as if the decades since “Daybreak” never happened.

“These people are so happy, and they’re all ages. That’s why I still do it,” said Manilow, who had an epiphany during a mid-’80s concert. The lights hit the audience and it was as if he was seeing them for the first time. Until then, Manilow was somewhat self-centered in his shows. It was about the clothes, the look, singing perfectly.

“And then suddenly I looked at them and decided it’s not about me. It’s about them,” said Manilow. “Everything changed because I realized that’s why

I’m on that stage. That’s why I’m there. It’s to make them feel great. It’s to make them forget their cancer and their divorces, and if they lost their job.”

The revelation marked the maturing of a special relationship between Fanilows and Manilow. “I’ve been very lucky,” said Manilow. “Those great people were

there, not as many, but they were there from the very beginning. I don’t know why, because I was terrible on the stage.” Manilow had never actually planned to be onstage. Before “Mandy,” before the first album, becoming a famous singer was not a goal. “Never even in my mind,” recalled Manilow. “I had no de-

sire to do it. I was going to be a conductor, arranger or songwriter. Keyboard guy, anything in the background. The last thing on my mind was to be standing on that stage entertaining people.”

Prior to teaming up with Bette Midler at her legendary Continental Baths engagements, which ended in 1971,

Manilow was an in-demand piano man and jingle writer who aspired to be an arranger, the next Nelson Riddle.

“I come from cabaret and Broadway,” he explained. “I used to play piano for everybody in New York. I was the go-to guy as the keyboard guy. I played for every singer that needed a piano player. I was the guy that they all called. Bernadette Peters, just everybody. I was the guy because I was a real good accompanist. I sound like a band when I play.”

Manilow was content, backing Midler as conductor, arranger and piano player.

Then he made a demo, and his record company wanted to position him as a singer-songwriter, à la James Taylor and Carole King. He called the Divine Miss M for advice.

“I said ‘Bette, I think I just got a record deal.’ She said, ‘Doing what?’ I said, ‘Singing.’ She said, ‘But you don’t sing.’ I said, ‘Yeah, but they think I do.’”

The accompanist became an entertainer. Harmony, a bio-musical about German vocal group Comedian Harmonists created by Manilow and his longtime collaborator Bruce Sussman

(“Copacabana,”

“I Made It Through

the Rain”), brings him full circle to being the wizard behind the curtain.

“They were a combination of the Manhattan Transfer and the Marx Brothers, all filled with great, complicated music,” said Manilow. “This happened in the 1920s and 1930s. The kind of music from the 1920s and ’30s, I love to listen to. … They were tremendously successful. They made 13 movies. They sold millions of records when records weren’t even big, and we had never heard of them.”

Previews for Harmony at Ethel Barrymore Theatre begin Oct. 18, shortly after he breaks Presley’s record during a three-day weekend of concerts, Sept. 2123, that will benefit charities, including the Manilow Music Project. “It was the only way I could pay tribute to Elvis,” said Manilow. “Just to have something to do with Elvis is thrilling for me. I thought doing charity would be a way of saying ‘Thank you’ to Elvis. It was the only way I could say ‘Thank you.’”

. You see that word a lot, don’t you? It’s hard not to with new sound, lighting and augmented reality technology making it easier than ever to create experiences in which, without even leaving the city, you can drop into exotic locations and alternate realities.

Despite the recent boom in these trendy trips, Las Vegas has long been a city ripe with enveloping environments, making each property entrance a portal to a new world. So, let’s take a journey, not just through ticketed attractions, but also to some of the city’s incredibly detailed re-creations of distant locales and even some fantasy lands that you’ll want to spend a lifetime exploring.

Providing one of the most enchanting stops for tourists and locals alike, Excalibur opened in 1990, bringing a fully realized medieval castle to the Strip, completed with exacting attention to

Walk the streets of Paris, past the Arc de Triomphe, all the way to the Strip’s very own Ei el Tower, where you can enjoy a premium view of the valley.

detail throughout the entire property with touches like intricate stained glass accents and faux brickwork. Frolicking around the castle grounds alone is fun enough, but the real magic comes from Excalibur’s long-standing resident show,

“I think one of the biggest keys to this whole entire show is the audience participation,” director of Royal Productions Philip Shelburne said. “Right now, immersive entertainment is this big-buy word, but that’s what this is, and it’s always been that way. The audience is a character in the show.”

The dinner show invites guests to suspend reality for a brief moment as they become part of a Middle Ages world where toasting your tankards, pounding on tables and eating without utensils is welcome and encouraged as knights in shining armor battle in front of them.

If medieval merriment isn’t quite your style, perhaps you’d prefer a stroll along the Grand Canal or, better yet, a gondola ride. At , be transported to an indoor Italy, featuring re-creations of Venice’s iconic landmarks such as the Rialto Bridge, St. Mark’s Campanile and, of course, the Grand Canal.

The waterway serves as a centerpiece to the Grand Canal Shoppes, which provides a delightful place to shop, dine and imbibe, with sky-painted ceilings and detailed storefronts and walkways. Even more exciting, you can round out your trip to Venice with a gondola ride through the resort. And yes; you’ll get to hear the sweet serenades of your gondolier as you float by.

For animal lovers, the Strip houses a sinking ancient temple filled to the brim with captivating critters that you can peruse. At Mandalay Bay (a resort with its own South Seas theme), you’ll find , which houses sea life and reptiles that are exciting enough on their own—but the attentively decorated environment puts visitors

right into an alternate universe. As you walk through the stone corridors looking at the exhibit’s Komodo dragon, snakes and piranhas, remember to pause and take in your surroundings. Plush greenery fills the animal-less areas while the temple statue emits a peaceful power.

As you make your way toward the sea life portion, you’ll find yourself in an un-

derwater shipwreck. The tan stonework transforms into the dark wood of the ship and the golden lighting turns cold and blue as you become submerged in the attraction. The creators have even gone so far as to include parts of the shipwreck as decor in the largest shark tank in the attraction, which engulfs the ship, even providing room for sharks to swim above and below visitors.

Not far from the Strip, travelers can enter a surreal realm. AREA15, a psychedelic megaplex of its own, features Meow Wolf’s , a nonsensical, otherworldly supermarket where shoppers are known to stumble upon strange passageways and mythical creatures. The attraction also has a mystery to solve, with various hidden clues all over to help explorers uncover what’s really going on at Dram Corp.

“I like the freedom of choice guests have for how they want to experience Omega Mart,” senior creative director Spencer Olsen said. “I like the emotionally vibrant story of an unconventional family who have found themselves in a strange situation. I like the new perspective you get when you leave and the feeling that anything is possible.”

Not only does Omega Mart provide a new perspective, but you’ll honestly feel like you’ve entered a new reality. Nothing

is as it seems here, and you could spend your whole day finding new surprises with every turn. If you find yourself parched mid-trip, you can even enjoy a refreshing Happle Juice, served in a

strangely squishy cup, at this location’s speakeasy Datamosh—that is, if you can find it.

the streets of Times Square and really get a sense of the Big Apple. The resort, which features re-creations of the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, opened in 1996 and accomplishes a very metropolitan feel with art deco-style accents and a mini Greenwich Village.

Naturally, it’s a touch warmer in Las Vegas than it is in the real Empire City, but that just means the weather’s perfect for a stroll along New York-New York’s replica of the Brooklyn Bridge, which sits along Las Vegas Boulevard and provides the perfect backdrop for a meal at one of the property’s bustling eateries.

The list just keeps going, too. While you’re in Sin City, you could visit the pyramids of Egypt or the Roman Empire. You could even immerse yourself in your favorite animated movies or the art of Vincent Van Gogh. The options are aplenty, so what are you doing still reading this? Get exploring!

The High Life

Home in elevated community offers unparalleled luxury

When it comes to Las Vegas real estate, there are breathtaking views, and then there’s … Ascaya, a masterplanned community in the McCullough Mountain Range that rises hundreds of feet above the city, overlooking the Las Vegas Valley, Strip and other mountain ranges. It’s also one of the valley’s most

exclusive communities, and living there is now a reality, thanks to one of its homes hitting the market.

This two-story, 5,718-squarefoot stunner, listed by Ida Doman of IS LUXURY, features all the amenities you would equate with modern, luxurious living, and with five bedrooms, six bathrooms

and a six-car garage (featuring a designer marble-inspired epoxy finish), there’s going to be plenty of room for families of all sizes. And it lies within Ascaya’s prestigious, guard-gated community, so privacy is guaranteed.

Your guests will be impressed from the second they begin their

journey to your front door—a grand courtyard will greet them, complete with a massive fireplace and large, pivoting entry door. Upon entering, it’s hard to not be struck by the exquisite touches throughout the interior—neutral shades, elegant lighting, high ceilings, a porcelain wall with linear fireplace, floating staircase, accent walls and pocket doors, which blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The real centerpiece of this home is the chef’s kitchen; if this space, featuring Thermador appliances,

doesn’t bring you in touch with your inner gourmet, nothing will! Elsewhere, you’ll find a dining area with easy access to a wine and whiskey bar. This is a space within which you will spend endless hours entertaining friends and family.

The home’s two primary suites (one on the first floor, the other on the second) offer spa-like bathrooms and customized walk-in closets. Other highlights include a theater room, view decks (all with spectacular mountain views), dual laundry rooms (one on each floor), and a

casita, which can serve as visitor quarters or a space for an office or gym.

And wait until you see the backyard! In addition to a built-in kitchen and multiple fire features, you can enjoy a pool and spa waterfall. And don’t forget about Ascaya’s clubhouse, offering its own pool, gym and owner’s lounge. Now this is living! –Ken Miller
