By the time you read this, America’s Got Talent will have announced the winner of its 18th season, an act that wins $1 million and is poised to become the Next Big Thing on the Las Vegas Strip. There are plenty of previous winners who enjoyed great success here, from magicians Mat Franco, Shin Lim and Pi the Magic Dragon to comedians like Tape Face and ventriloquists like Terry Fator, all of whom you can buy a ticket for this week. But if you want a re-creation of the excitement AGT provides, you defi nitely want to head to Luxor for America’s Got Talent Presents SUPERSTARS Live, a variety show that features an ever-rotating cast of some of the show’s very best acts. If you have a favorite AGT performer, odds are they will eventually appear in this show—if they haven’t already (“Who’s Next?” p. 32).
The live entertainment fun just keeps on coming this week. Jackson Browne, one of rock’s greatest songwriters, comes to The Venetian for a series of shows that are sure to be thought-provoking and emotional (“For Future & Past,” p. 34). Comedian Charlie Berens, who performs this week at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, sat down to talk to Las Vegas Magazine ’s Em Jurbala (“Wisconsin Wit,” p. 38). R&B legends Kool & The Gang are launching an extended residency at Westgate Las Vegas (“The Beat Goes On,” p. 14). And classic rock group Foghat brings its huge catalog to Golden Nugget (“Still Got the Mojo,” p. 21).
Make sure to pay a visit to Harrah’s, which is celebrating 50 years of entertainment, food and fun (“Golden Moment,” p. 12). Speaking of food and fun, defi nitely check out the next-level brunch at FUHU at Resorts World Las Vegas (“Good Morning to You,” p. 28).
There’s plenty more to enjoy in this issue. We hope this week produces plenty of memories.

The founders of Las Vegas were often colorful and/or larger than life. Monuments to their legacies exist today in the form of long-operating Strip properties, while a few casino-resorts continue to bear the names of gaming pioneers of Las Vegas. One such place stands tall mid-Strip and is familiar to Las Vegas visitors as Harrah’s William Fisk Harrah did not own the property now branded with his name when it first opened, or its casino where dice have been rolled and cards dealt for a half-century as of July of this year. The joint venture with Holiday Inn was named the Holiday Casino when it began operating adjacent to the Holiday Inn Center Strip.
Harrah established himself in Reno in the late 1930s, building a bingo parlor into an empire as his influence grew statewide. A well-liked figure among entertainers and employees, he created the Nevada Gaming Control Board in 1955 and took his company public in 1971, creating Harrah’s, Inc.
He died in 1978 while undergoing cardiac surgery, and two years later Harrah’s, Inc. was acquired by Holiday Inn. By 1992, the property was under new ownership and Bill Harrah received the ultimate Vegas tribute when the
building was rebranded as Harrah’s, and three years later its parent company became Harrah’s Entertainment.
Now operated by Caesars Entertainment, Harrah’s has featured headliners from Clint Holmes to Rita Rudner to the Righteous Brothers. Donny Osmond is the current living legend in residence, while risque revue “X” Country and Whose Line Is It Anyway? alumnus
Colin Mochrie’s Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis round out the more experiential options. Fans of live musical comedies about changes and maturity will find Menopause The Musical a worthy investment of time.
Food experiences now include Ramsay’s Kitchen by Gordon Ramsay, Bobby’s Burgers by Bobby Flay and PizzaCake by Buddy Valastro. It’s a restaurant row that Bill Harrah could admire, complemented by outdoor libations landmark Carnaval Court.

My introduction to Kool & The Gang was in 1977—the year I first listened to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. They had but one song on that monstrously successful album, “Open Sesame,” but it quickly became one I returned to again and again. From its opening gong to its deep funk groove and its One Thousand and One Nights -themed lyrics, this is a song designed to get you on your feet and swaying like no one’s watching.
This song perfectly encapsulated two things: The wackiness, anything-goes vibe of the disco era; and Kool & the Gang’s ability to take any material and turn it into an instant classic. There’s a reason we’re still hearing this group’s vast array of hits across all platforms (TV, movies, commercials and more)—their sense of fun and propulsive beats is timeless. And they will be bringing that everlasting party to a variety of dates at Westgate Las Vegas until late 2024.
Just like me in 1977, generations of listeners will be familiar with Kool & The Gang for reasons of their own: Maybe you first heard them in the ’80s during the movie Jumping Jack Flash (“Misled”); maybe your first exposure was in the ’90s during the opening scenes of Pulp Fiction (“Jungle Boogie”); maybe you comedy fans first got the Kool kraving from Legally Blonde in 2001 (“Get Down On It”); or maybe you younger tykes first danced to their music in 2012 during the opening scenes of Wreck-It Ralph (“Celebration”). And odds are all those different age groups will be in the aisles of the International Theater, exchanging high fives when the group launches into “Ladies Night.”
What’s that? Not a big movie fan? And not really into the “classics”? Well, odds are you’ve been a fan of the band’s sound and not even known it. Kool & Kompany have been sampled in more songs than we have space to list here, from “Summer Madness” (sampled in “You Know How We Do It” by Ice Cube) to “N.T.” (sampled in “N.Y. State of Mind” by Nas). –Ken Miller

Easily offended? Think that comedy should have some restrictions when it comes to the punchlines? Do you consider yourself “woke”? Then three-man comedy show Jew Man Group might get you worked up, as one of the first lines you’ll hear when the show starts is this is the place “where woke comes to die.”
Indeed, the comedy show, inspired by Jewish comics like Mel Brooks, Rodney Dangerfield and Billy Crystal, pushes the envelope in content, but what’s unexpected is that the experience rings
too true at times and gets one agreeing that comedy really should be a noholds-barred take on society.
The 70-minute show gives a onetwo punch on today’s headline-making politics and combines it with hysterical commentary on everyday life including marriage, sex, kids and work. The stand-up is mixed with ventriloquism, skits, impersonations, musical parodies and audience participation.
The three comedians—Rick Michel, Rich Natole and Joel Leder—each possess biting wit and impeccable comedic
timing, and each get their moment to shine solo in the spotlight, but it’s a laugh riot when the three join up for the group bits.
The throwback comedy comes from a time when race, religion, sexual and political preference, and economic and social status, was ripe for the comedic picking—so come with an open mind and remember: The show is all in good (and funny) fun! –Kiko Miyasato
Tuscany Suites & Casino, 18+. jewmangroup.comSure, it’s fun to be an adult. You can go anywhere you want, eat anything you want and buy anything you want. But sometimes, isn’t it fun to feel like a kid again? There’s something about those younger years that sometimes pulls at you and begs you to return, even if just for a few hours. And at Retro by Voltaggio, you can do just that, not to mention get a fantastic meal in the process.
A collaboration by brothers Michael and Bryan Voltaggio, this new enterprise, which takes up the space that used to house Aureole, is a celebration of nostalgia, and the feeling is in absolutely every corner—even the tall tower that used to house Aureole’s massive wine collection is now full of trinkets from the brothers’ past, from bicycles and video game units to superhero toys.
The dishes here are all designed with one thing in mind: fun. Order the escargot and marvel when it arrives in a ceramic container made to look like a Chinese food takeout box. Marvel even more when you dig into the dish and find it tastes almost exactly like General Tso’s chicken.
Order the pepperoni rolls and marvel when they arrive, looking like cinnamon rolls, but stuffed with pizza goodness. And who doesn’t like deviled eggs? Retro’s version is extra-creamy and comes with a nice surprise inside: caviar. It’s like getting in touch with both your younger and older sides simultaneously—in the best way possible.
But the nostalgia really kicks in when you order the wagyu beef pot roast, served in the CorningWare your mother served all her casseroles in when you got home from school. And while it may look like the stew you remember, wagyu bumps this baby up. And wait until you try VoltaggiO’s, a re-creation of your favorite Campbell’s canned pasta goodness, made with house-made “O’s,” arrabbiata butter and a giant meatball. Your tastebuds— and your memory banks—will seriously come alive.–Ken Miller

If you’re staying at the Silverton Casino Lodge this fall, you’re in for a surprise. Not only has the resort remodeled 300 guest rooms in a “luxe-lodge” feel as part of a yearlong refreshing project, but it also has another treat in store.
To celebrate autumn’s bounty, stop in at the Shady Grove Lounge, where a vintage Airstream and colorful fall lights are the backdrop for the all-new Cider Fest. Stop in during October and enjoy cider flights or full pints, plus fall-themed cocktails and snacks like braised-beef topped disco fries, cheese
curds, State Fair mini doughnuts, and apple tarts.
The Silverton rooms are sure to excite the eyes, with three separate themes—Cowboy Kitsch, Rustic Modern and Refined Lodge—that capture a Southwestern aesthetic. All the rooms feature plenty of wood and leather accents. The Cowboy Kitsch rooms take you back to a Route 66 vibe, with bright colors on furniture and rugs, and classic prints on the curtains. A night here is certain to brighten your spirits. The Rustic Modern Collection
brings a sophisticated western vibe to the décor, while The Refined Lodge rooms are inspired by the homes of past cattle barons.
“This is where luxury meets the rustic charm of a modern lodge,” Silverton CEO Craig Cavileer said in a news release. “Each thoughtfully renovated room has been meticulously designed to be upscale, casual, fun and, of course, super comfortable.” –Nina King

You know the rhythm is right when drummer Roger Earl pounds out the beat behind the rough-and-ready riffs of “Slow Ride,” Foghat ’s biggest hit and a cornerstone of classic rock. Earl, a rock ’n’ roll survivor whose energy continues to drive the band 52 years after its formation, is preparing to release Foghat’s latest album, Sonic Mojo, with bicoastal release parties scheduled for November in New York City and San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
A track from the album, “Drivin’ On,” is available for streaming. It
was written by the late Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown, the band that Earl and singer “Lonesome” Dave Peverett played in before Foghat. Sonic Mojo is Foghat’s 17th studio album since the group’s 1972 self-titled debut, which established the quartet’s hard rock sound and Peverett’s distinctive high-energy vocals on covers of Willie Dixon’s “I Just Want to Make Love to You” and Chuck Berry’s “Maybelline.”
“Slow Ride,” marked by Rod Price’s churning, greasy slide guitar playing, appeared on 1975 album
Fool for the City. That song and the title track assured Foghat a place on the tour circuit as long as Earl wants to power its engine. With the other three original members having passed on, Earl renders the classics with longtime guitarist Bryan Bassett, bassist Rodney O’Quinn and vocalist Scott Holt, who joined the band last year replacing Charlie Huhn. –Matt Kelemen

Ricardo Smenner is the man, the man with the cigar plan, at Aria. With an extensive background in the cigar industry—more than 15 years, with some of that time spent at a boutique cigar factory where he learned about the complete production of cigars—he brought his knowledge to the property in 2021 and launched an exclusive cigar program for guests of Sky Villas.
“I designed a whole program— built a cigar cart, got rare and
exclusive limited cigars and I (made) a house blend that I personally curated for Aria’s Sky Villas guests,” Smenner said. “Because of the success that we’ve had with the Villas’ cigar program, we decided to go into the next phase and do an extension of the cigar program in our lounges.”
You can find Smenner’s cigar program inside three Aria lounges: Lift Bar, High Limit Lounge and Baccarat Lounge. Each lounge offers its own list of quality cigars at varying
prices. “At Lift Bar, the selections are more on the classic, traditional, many (that) one could find at a cigar shop,” he said. “Then you go into the higher tier at High Limit and Baccarat, and the quality and standards are much higher for those cigars. Baccarat has the highest tier.” (Prices start at $25 in all lounges, with $50 max at Lift and $75 max at High Limit and Baccarat).
At Lift, find selections that include Arturo Fuente Chateau,
Camacho Connecticut and Padron 1964 Anniversary Presidente Natural. At High Limit, you’ll see cigars like Rocky Patel Decade, Montecristo White Label and Cohiba Red Dot; Baccarat offers choices like Davidoff Aniversario No. 3, Tatuaje Havana VI Nobles and Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story.
Smenner has personally trained each bartender at each lounge so they can assist guests with the cigar experience. “They are more than capable of the task of cutting and lighting the cigars and explaining the cigars,” he said. “However, I am usually on the floor walking around, and when a guest is ordering a cigar and I happen to be there, I will always stop and assist with the explanation of the cigars and the selection that pairs well with a spirit or cocktail. I also help with the cut and the light and the explanation of the cigars. If they want to understand more about it, I’ll dive into the history of the cigars.”
Smenner has paid careful attention when selecting the cigars for each lounge, so that each one pairs well with specialty cocktails and spirits offered at the bar. Some of his favorite cocktail pairings include a classic Sazerac or Zacapa XO
rum, served neat. “You think back hundreds of years and rum was a big trading product of the time as well as tobacco, and so those have always been paired together over hundreds of years,” he said. “The heat from the cigar brings out the flavor of the rum.”
But Smenner is careful to point out, “I want the guest to have the cocktail that they want, and then I pair the cigar with what they prefer with a spirit,” he said.
At High Limit and Baccarat lounges, guests are sure to be especially impressed with the spirits’ list at both venues, with labels that include Buffalo Trace, Pappy Van Winkle and Macallan, just to name a few. “These two lounges offer some of the most high-end spirits, rare spirits, Scotches, bourbons and cognac,” he said.
So, if you’re a fan of cigars and good spirits, it’s high time that you get yourself over to Aria and indulge in Smenner’s program—and if you happen to see him, make sure to flag the man down for an illuminating chat. –Kiko

Beginning at 10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night, Jessica Powell helps set the scene at the Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay. The Texas native is the dance captain for the MVP Dancers, with Melissa Vargo Productions, who perform at the lounge every weekend. Dressed in beautiful costumes, Powell and four other dancers “perform freestyle, go-go dancing—very tasteful and sexy,” she says.
Powell has long had a passion for dance ever since she learned to walk, eventually studying at a studio in her
home state for 16 years. She’s schooled in ballet, lyrical, hip-hop and her favorite, jazz. “That’s my forte, that’s my jam,” she says.
Powell was such a strong dancer that she eventually ended up teaching at the studio where she got her start and went on to competitive dance. She also danced professionally at some of the biggest conventions in town. By 2014, she decided to take a chance and move to Las Vegas.
“I knew Vegas was very me,” she says. “I’m flashy, I’m sparkly, I’ve always

Not knowing a soul, she moved here sight unseen and landed her first gig at Foundation Room in 2015. “I’ve met a lot of people working here, from all over the world,” Powell says. “I love that it’s a small venue. By Nina KingWhether you’re starting off your vacation or are winding down, brunch is one of the best dining experiences around. At FUHU in Resorts World Las Vegas, Saturday brunch offers the perfect way to fuel up and get in some day drinking, too. The restaurant, located at the end of The District (where you head to both Ayu Dayclub and Zouk
Nightclub), is beautifully decorated with a faux Sakura tree in full bloom. Inside, you’ll find a fun bar and dining area.
Speaking of drinking, order a cocktail first thing. The Sakura Smash is a fresh sip with Grey Goose Strawberry and Lemongrass Essences vodka and St-Germain elderflower liqueur, while FUHU’s Ketel One espresso martini gives you a nice kick. Sake, beer and wine are available as well.
Once that’s accomplished, give full rein to your hunger—oysters with traditional sauces, a sashimi platter that changes depending on what’s freshest, and chirashi, with sashimi over seasoned sushi rice, are great openers.
FUHU also offers dim sum choices like foie gras and roast duck buns, shrimp and pork shumai and crispy seafood soup dumplings, among others. Mushroom and scallion dumplings give vegans an option, and a
clever orange accent along the top of each makes them visually appealing.
If you’d like a salad to whet your appetite, the bibb lettuce salad is super light, with radish, tomato, miso ranch and youtiao (a type of fried Chinese dough) croutons.
For main items, try a selection of rolls like the spicy tuna, bluefin tekka maki, or salmon avocado. You can also indulge in shrimp tempura.
Chicken katsu and FUHU chilaquiles are two popular choices at brunch—the katsu comes with a fried egg, pickles and steamed rice, while the chilaquiles are topped with two eggs, yuzu crema, red onion, cilantro and cotija cheese—just a super-savory comfort food. For vegans, in addition to the dumplings, a Chick’n larb is composed of Gardein, lemongrass rice powder, onion and a citrus vinaigrette, while the vegan Impossible beef bowl combines crispy Impossible
meat with beech mushrooms, peppers and basil laid over steamed rice.
For a classic, try the New York steak and eggs with crispy fingerling potatoes. Other traditional brunch dishes are combined with Asian flavors, like the FUHU prime short rib Benedict, with an over-easy egg and red vinegar hollandaise, as well as the ube pancakes with condensed milk and whipped butter, plus kerisik (a buttery coconut paste). The breakfast sandwich piles an egg, bacon, avocado, cheese and sambal ketchup
In the place of dessert, add on the Nutella French toast, a yummy plate with hazelnut crunch, berry sauce and whipped cream that’s perfect to share. And from the dim sum menu, the sesame balls with red bean paste fill in perfectly as a sweet. They’re large and crunchy, and covered in sesame seeds. If you don’t order them for dinner, do order them earlier, as they are worth it.
America’s Got Talent fi nished up its 18th season on Sept. 26 (at press time, the winner had not yet been selected), and many agree that it was one of the best yet, an incredible mix of worldclass talents—comedians, singers, bands, acrobats, dancers and, yes, even a man who re-creates famous songs using just the air coming from between his squeezed palms! Obviously, the goal is to win the whole thing, which brings with it $1 million and a show in Las Vegas; but as many of the runners-up will attest (Pi the Magic Dragon, Tape Face and iLuminate, for example), just appearing on the show can change your life.
And best of all, all those acts you grow to know and love over the seasons will possibly be performing the next time you’re in town. The show has established its very own variety show at Luxor: America’s Got Talent Presents SUPERSTARS Live, featuring a rotating cast that, over the years, has included quick-change artist Lea Kyle; singer Jimmy Herrod; acrobat act Duo Transcend; magician Justin Tavella; spoken-word poet Brandon Leake; and mentalist act The Clairvoyants. And
You never know which act will be featured in America’s Got Talent
the current lineup is just as exciting and spans a wide variety of seasons:
Season 6: Not only did the performers in The Silhouettes get the Golden Buzzer with their impeccable skills at creating ever-changing tableaus by changing the shapes of their bodies on a backlit screen, they took second place for their season.
Season 11: Amazingly, danger act Deadly Games, featuring Alfredo and Anna Silva, didn’t even crack the top 10, getting eliminated in the semifi nals. But it remains a fan favorite and is an undeniable highlight of SUPERSTARS.
Season 12: With its combination of dancing and light-adorned costumes, Light Balance almost won its season, coming in third. It begins and ends the show, which tells you all you need to know about its appeal.
Season 13: The Human Fountains, tuxedo-clad comedians who spit water in all directions, including each other’s mouths, may be the only SUPERSTARS
act to get a red “X” (from Simon Cowell, who got grossed out). But you’ll be splitting a gut from laughing, trust us.
Season 14: Singer/pianist Kodi Lee remains one of the best AGT acts in history, providing beautiful renditions of songs like Leon Russell’s “A Song for You.”
Season 16: Self-trained aerialist Aidan Bryant came close to winning his season (second place), but returned for All-Stars and won the whole thing. His act is, by turns, beautiful and nail-bitingly intense, but there is simply nothing like him on the entire Strip.
Season 17: The Pack Drumline was an instant hit with the AGT judges and America, and while the troupe was eliminated in the semifi nals, its propulsive rhythms, combined with some amazing choreography, landed it a spot in the Luxor production. It just feels tailor-made for Las Vegas.
Who will join SUPERSTARS in the future? Get your tickets now and fi nd out!
Jackson Browne’s recent reimagining of “Doctor My Eyes” was an international affair, featuring an all-star cast of musicians from around the world channeling the song’s urgent passion and driving, uplifting spirit. While the video depicted Browne jamming on the song’s bouncy piano riff backed by old friends Russ Kunkel and Leland Sklar on congas and bass, respectively, it takes viewers around the world to Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Puerto Rico and Jamaica, where contributors performed from their homelands.
The song, part of a project publicizing social purpose organization Playing for Change, symbolizes Browne’s reach both musically and as a social activist. The musicians are caught up in the brightness of the sound, while its lyrical theme of jaded desperation
leading to hope resonates as powerfully as it did when Browne’s debut album was released in 1972.
Fifty years later, Browne seems relevant as ever, using performance as a platform to deliver progressive messages and fearlessly forming his opinions into verse as he does on 2021 album Downhill from Everywhere. The title song is inspired by the journey of disposed plastic to a gigantic gyre in the Pacific Ocean, an ongoing environmental disaster that reads high on Browne’s radar of issues to maintain awareness of.
Awareness has been a foundation of Browne’s creative motivation and process since he wrote his first song at a world-weary 16 years old. “These Days” would later become German singer Nico’s signature song, but Browne had yet to meet his future girlfriend. He was
born in Germany, though, where his Army journalist father was stationed until he brought the family to Southern California.
Browne grew up surrounded by books and music. He emulated his older brother’s piano-playing style and was inspired to write songs by his sister’s friends. They traveled to New York together, where Browne was hired as a songwriter by Elektra Records at age 18. Homesickness eventually prevailed and he relocated to L.A., where neighbors J.D. Souther and Glenn Frey were awed by his work ethic as he developed chord progressions and melodies on piano.
He was Apollo to Jim Morrison’s Dionysius, a dark-haired lyric poet who lived on the fault line between cynicism and optimism. He was more constructive than self-destructive like his close friend Warren Zevon, who passed in 2003, and cultivated songs throughout the ’70s that came to represent the decade including “Boulevard,” “The Pretender,”
Jackson Browne’s everyman songwriting is as personal and poignant as everCourtesy photo By Matt Kelemen
The latter was one of his most memorable compositions and features his longtime collaborator and musical mentor David Lindley contributing falsetto.
The stringed-instrument maestro, responsible for much of the stinging slide guitar work in Browne’s song catalog, passed away in March and will surely receive shout-outs or tributes during Browne’s five-night Vegas stand.
Browne has been paying tribute to Zevon with covers worked into recent sets, opening shows with “Don’t Let Us Get Sick” from Zevon’s album Life’ll Kill Ya.
It may be a defiant response to the severe illness Browne experienced earlier this year, but not out of character for an artist who’s never lived anything less than a healthy creative life.

Trip out your mind and body for about an hour by visiting the newly opened Museum of Illusions. Serving as the flagship location of the brand—with more
than 40 other locations in 25 countries across the globe—this museum spreads reality-bending adventure across 15,000 square feet.
By Kiko Miyasato“Museum of Illusions Las Vegas offers a unique interactive adventure, setting itself apart from any other attraction in Las Vegas,” said Pien Koopman, marketing manager for the attraction. “The space showcases an array of unbelievable exhibitions, never-before-seen installations created only for this location, and unveils the science behind each alternate reality
to create an all-new ‘edu-tainment’ concept, exclusive to Museum of Illusions.”
As you wander through the museum, step into the Vortex Tunnel and then try and walk. You might find that you can’t move an inch without the curious feeling of falling over—the walkway is completely still, but it’s the surroundings that are spinning, which makes your brain begin to trick your body. At the
Cloning Table you can take a seat with five of your clones. What’s happening here? Instead of a regular round table, the table is actually a circular cut that is reflected in a mirror at a 60-degree angle, and when you sit down, your reflection repeats itself five times. For those who don’t like heights but want to test their will, stop by the Infinity Well, where the effect of infinite depth plays
with the brain’s perception of falling down a deep well—when in fact it’s only inches deep.
Since this Museum of Illusions is in Las Vegas, the brand made sure to install Vegas-related experiences, said Koopman. “We’ve created Las Vegas-themed exhibits especially for this location (including) some of our key exhibits such as the Reversed Room, where visitors will have the chance to seemingly levitate upside down from a pink Cadillac, and our Building Illusion, where it seems as if you are hanging from a Las Vegas-themed building. Also, our Following Eyes exhibit is inspired by the iconic Vegas showgirl.”
In addition to the larger, more physically interactive exhibits, MOI excels in teasing and testing the mind with tons of optical illusions. “Our museum goes beyond entertainment; it provides a unique educational platform where visitors can explore the fascinating science behind optical illusions and visual perception,” Koopman said. “We believe in making learning a fun and interactive experience, allowing people to discover the hidden wonders of the mind. We are proud to be global pioneers in the “edu-tainment” sector, making learning more fun for our visitors every day.”
And don’t forget to break out your camera at MOI—this place is filled with exhibits where you and your friends can appear to be floating in the air, dine on each other’s head, play giant and small person, switch body parts, and step inside alternate universes.
By now you should realize that Museum of Illusions is not your typical museum—no security barking orders, roped-off sections and “don’t touch” signs hanging everywhere. “Unlike traditional museums, we encourage active participation from our guests,” Koopman said. “Our exhibits are designed to be touched, experienced, and photographed, creating memorable moments and encouraging social sharing. We provide a unique space where people can become part of the art and have fun capturing mind-bending pictures and videos.”
Comedian, content creator and Emmy award-winning journalist Charlie Berens, known for his Midwestern charm, spoke with Las Vegas Magazine’s Em Jurbala ahead of his upcoming tour stop in Las Vegas this week.
west and mine was “Go Packers, and F the Bears,” and that Packers fandom really latched onto the Manitowoc Minute because of that.

Well, I think the Midwest, for a long time, has been somewhat underrepresented … There have been a few things, certainly; like Roseanne was based in the Midwest and Fargo, obviously. But you can rattle o a bunch of (comedians from the South, East Coast and West Coast), but the Midwest kind of got flown over, so to speak … Also, I’m from Wisconsin, so my initial thing was the Manitowoc Minute, which was a news report, and I wanted to end this news report with (something like Edward R. Murrow’s) iconic sign o where he was like, “Good night and good luck.” I wanted to have something iconic for the Mid-
You’ve gotta stay on top of it and you can be opposed to it. For instance, a lot of comedians now don’t like doing crowd work clips, because it kind of changes the art form if people just start shouting things out at you, and that’s not really what your show’s about. It’s finding a balance in a lot of these things. All these di erent platforms—I view them as a di erent improv game. I’ve got a background in improv and each platform, you can do something creative and authentic on it. It doesn’t have to be like, “I’m just going to go on TikTok and do the trends.” You can do that to build your following; there’s nothing wrong with
that. But if you really are opposed to that as a comedian, you can find a really fun, creative way to make social media content.
I went there just after college. … I drove up in my minivan and I didn’t have enough money for gas to get home, so I had to win a little bit. And I did. I actually won in poker, and I was feeling good about myself, and then I must have forgotten about my whole gas situation because I decided to take all my money and put it on the Packers to win the Super Bowl ... Yeah, I was drinking; that was the main inspiration for this. So, this was in 2010, the season had not started, I think it was like 13- or 14-to-1 odds. Stupid by anybody’s imagination especially before the season started. So, I put it on there and I forgot about it. … Then as the season went on and on, I was like “Oh man, I should really find that ticket.” And long story short, the Packers won the Super Bowl and I never found that ticket.

Lone Mountain home offers tranquility and luxury
The community of Lone Mountain is unlike any other in Southern Nevada, located immediately north of Summerlin and bordered on the west by the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Some call it the Sedona of Summerlin, and it’s not hard to see why: With its
large number of horse ranches and natural terrain and parks, the area is an ideal retreat for those who love the energy of the Las Vegas Strip, but want to keep a sense of privacy and security.
Homes throughout this large community range from Spanish
colonial and midcentury modern to luxury mini-estates by Blue Heron. And a home has just recently become available here, one that’s large enough for big families and offers plenty of upgrades and great views.
This two-story, 8,926-squarefeet estate on nearly an acre, listed
by Ivan Sher of IS LUXURY, boasts eight bedrooms, nine bathrooms and a six-car garage (there’s also an adjacent RV hookup), and its modernistic design is full of eye-popping details that merge style and functionality. As you proceed through a gated entrance, it’s hard to not be impressed by the attention to detail.
As impressive as the exterior is, it’s nothing compared to the interior, punctuated with 20-foot-high ceilings. Large windows offer the maximum amount of natural light
possible, and large sliding pocket doors blur the line between indoor and outdoor space.
Elsewhere, wood flooring brings a feeling of warmth to the space, and a large fireplace in the living room really helps to bring groups together. A large kitchen island beckons you to enjoy breakfast, while a sizable bar area has plenty of seating for large parties. The laundry room is beyond impressive, with multiple washers and dryers and more than ample cabinet space.
But the real centerpiece of this home is the elaborately designed backyard, featuring a saltwater pool and spa, outdoor shower, flourishing fruit orchard, and amazing views. There’s also a detached casita, which can be used for a variety of purposes—sanctuary, studio, workspace, you name it. Welcome to the best of all worlds. –
