This is a unique week in Las Vegas. The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix takes over the Las Vegas Strip from Nov. 21-23 to provide several days of racing action. It’s a safe bet that many of this week’s visitors are here to enjoy the F1 event and its surrounding festivities. If so, we made sure to include some fun F1-related pop-up dinners at various Caesars Entertainment properties across the Strip, including the chance to have lunch with Gordon Ramsay (“Victory Lap,” p. 14).
Many of you visiting this week may have other plans. And this issue has plenty of options focusing on areas outside the hustle and bustle of the F1 racetrack:
• Dining. For meat lovers, one of the best steakhouses in town is Edge Steakhouse at Westgate Las Vegas, an award-winning institution that excels in every aspect (“Prime Perfection,” p. 18). For great Asian cuisine for either brunch or dinner, FUHU at Resorts World has what you want (“Savor the Flavors,” p. 28). And if you want to really go exploring this week, check out our feature on Chinatown, where the dining options are so plentiful your head will be spinning (“Delicious Detour,” p. 34).
• The great outdoors. Head to Arizona and Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel for a fascinating, fun way to explore the Southwest (“Tracks to Trails,” p. 40).

• Entertainment. One of the Strip’s hottest shows, KÀ by Cirque du Soleil at MGM Grand, is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and its cast and crew are always looking for ways to keep the show fresh for repeat visitors (“Uplifting Upgrade,” p. 32).
Whatever your reason for visiting this week, we hope our magazine helps you get the maximum amount of enjoyment. Now go have fun!

Oh, the Views!
Take in the amazing sights of the Southwest and enjoy exhilarating rides in comfort
Some of the most breathtaking attractions in Las Vegas have been around a long time (some a lot longer than others), and you can take in those sights with a view from above. Maverick Helicopters whooshes you up, up and away, off to the Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Newer sights are also waiting for you, like Las Vegas’ iconic, brightly lit Strip.
If you’ve always wanted to see the Grand Canyon, consider one of Maverick Helicopters’ trips to Grand Canyon West. With seven different tour options for you, you’re sure to find an itinerary and timeline that suits you. You can spend as little as four hours (but still experience a landing) with the Wind Dancer Tour, which heads over Lake Mead and the Mojave Desert before landing at Grand Canyon West (right below the rim). Once down, enjoy some beverages and nibbles before heading back; on the way back, you’ll take in the Bowl of Fire and cruise over the Strip before landing. Other tours include landings where you can experience Grand Canyon West’s Skywalk, a cantilevered glass bridge that seems to sit in midair over the natural wonder.
If you want to simply take in the Strip from above, Vegas Views takes you from Maverick Helicopters’ terminal from one end of the Strip and all the way up and back. And on Nov. 21-23, special flights spotlight the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix course for an exhilarating view of the major racing event.
If you want to add a little extra to your tour, you should pop the question or even tie the knot with your significant other. That’s right, Maverick Helicopters offers flights designed to facilitate that “Yes!” Weddings are available with options for cake, a minister, champagne and more! A wedding coordinator will help you nail down the details.
Through the end of November, the company is holding a toy drive to benefit Speedway Children’s Charities in Las Vegas, and toys can be dropped off at Maverick Helicopters’ terminal. –Nina King

For F1 fans, Caesars Entertainment offers plenty of one-of-a-kind lunch and dinner experiences
The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is about to take over the Strip for a second year, and Caesars Entertainment has plenty of special events planned to help fans usher in their favorite sport.
One of F1’s biggest fans, Gordon Ramsay is not only be attending the event, he is making an appearance at his hit Caesars Palace restaurant, Gordon Ramsay Hell’s Kitchen , where he is the “headliner” at a specially curated four-course meal at 11 a.m. Nov. 22. Expect an extremely animated celebrity chef as he discusses his love of the sport. You might want to book a table for this now, as space is expected to be limited. It’s $250 per person, with an optional $99 beverage package.
At Brooklyn-based Peter Luger Steak House, get ready to enjoy the finer things in life, including one of the most expensive brandies of all time, Louis XIII, at a Race Week Dinner at 5 p.m. Nov. 22. In addition to a four-course menu curated by the Peter Luger team, Guillaume Vallet, Louis XIII’s national director of luxury brands, takes guests on an educational journey into the spirit’s history and legacy. Again, reser-
vations are highly recommended, and dinner is $400 per person. Speaking of high-end spirits, House of Suntory is featured as part of a 16-seat, six-course menu at Nobu Caesars Palace at 5 p.m. Nov. 22. This “Japanese Whiskey Cocktail Omakase” will highlight the harmony between Japanese and Peruvian cuisine, along with a visit from a Suntory brand ambassador. Best of all? Each course comes with a House of Suntory whiskey pairing. This dinner is $500 per person, and given the limited space, contacting the restaurant directly might be the best course of action.
And at Flamingo, Bugsy & Meyer’s Steakhouse is hosting a “Sinatra Dinner,” which features a visit from Eric Tecosky, brand ambassador for Jack Daniel’s (Ol’ Blue Eyes’ favorite whiskey), at 5 p.m. Nov. 21. During the four-course dinner and cocktail pairing, Tecosky will discuss Sinatra’s relationship with the now-legendary spirit, and each guest will receive an engraved bottle of Jack and become an honorary member of the Jack Daniel’s Country Club. Seats are $250 per person. –Ken Miller
Let’s Go, Raiders!

Just win, baby, when you head to the ultimate party: MASQUERAID VIP Tailgate at Allegiant Stadium. Raiders fans score a touchdown when purchasing tickets (starting at $199) to the special four-hour experience before each home game, including the Denver Broncos game on Nov. 24.
Fans are immersed in all things silver and black when crossing over the pirate-themed threshold to a world of food and fun that includes a pirate ship filled with dancers, jugglers and a live DJ playing some of the best old-school hip-
hop. And inside the pirate ship? A bar, one of a few spread across the outdoor venue. An open bar with beer and cocktails is included with the price of a ticket.
A buffet-style setup of yummy bites is filled with breakfast burritos, tacos, meatball sliders, fresh fruits and veggies, decadent desserts and more. There’s plenty of high-top table seating and cabana-like areas for larger groups. There are also Raiders-branded photo ops and costumed entertainers to capture that perfect tailgating memory. TVs sit around the venue so fans can catch a glimpse of all the pregame action, too. (The game is not televised however, as the experience ends right before kickoff.) –Kiko Miyasato

Prime Perfection
Indulge in fine foods at this classic steakhouse
Las Vegas is rapidly evolving, and it can be a bit overwhelming to consider just how much this town has changed from its early days. But if you want to get away from the bustle and just unwind, there’s a place just for you: Edge Steakhouse, where the values and service of old Vegas live on.
From the second you enter, you realize just how special this restaurant is. It’s instantly calming, with dark woods and elegant furnishings. A bar to your right beckons you to have a drink and some conversation before heading to your table.
You’ll want to start with one of Edge’s signature cocktails like the Vegas Dream, a combo of Tito’s vodka, passion fruit, prosecco and a huckleberry reduction, all served in a pomegranate sugar-rimmed martini glass. Another solid option is the Eat a Peach, where the bourbon is blended with lemon, peach-and-amaretto jam, agave and egg white. You really can’t go wrong here.
You’ll find a wonderful array of starters on Edge’s menu, from lightly fried spicy shrimp that get their kick from a sweet chili reduction to roasted bone marrow served with onion jam, marrow arancini, parsley and radish. If you decide to go with jumbo lump crab cake, we certainly couldn’t blame you, and this version gets a special kick from avocado aioli, lemon crème fraîche, cucumber and citrus.
Steaks are available in wet- and dry-aged cuts, from a 7-ounce filet mignon to a hearty 20-ounce dry-aged ribeye. Accompany any of these with your choice of seared scallops, charred jalapeño or caramelized onions, and then choose your sides. We recommend the black-and-white truffle mac and cheese made with white cheddar, Gruyère and Parmesan.
And whatever else you do, do not skip dessert here. The warm chocolate lave cake is a can’t-miss for deep satisfaction, but for the indecisive, there’s a trio of crème brulées (vanilla bean, raspberry and chocolate), as well as a Chef’s Selection ice cream trio. –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Fire Away!
Have a blast at this high-powered hot spot
Firearms owners see Las Vegas in a different light than the average visitor. The city provides an opportunity to spend a morning or afternoon brushing up on shooting skills and testing different weapons. The casual owner who doesn’t get much chance to handle their handguns at home can work target practice into a visit. Whatever skill level, it helps to be mindful of a destination with a landmark, like The Range 702’s shared latitude with the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign.
Following a trip to the sign with a visit to The Range 702 combines two happenings in Vegas that go together like tacos and Tuesdays. You don’t have to settle for one item at Range 702, though. West of the Strip and Bali High Golf Club, the venue has 16 shooting ranges and machine gun experiences for all levels.
Aspiring firearms owners can start out with the Suns Out, Guns Out package designed for beginners, while adrenalinecraving life partners have a tailor-made Couples Therapy option. Things get
more intriguing from there with Black Ops, Area 51 and Judgment Day themes providing exciting scenarios.
The Range 702 offers a Femme Fatale designed to make ladies feel comfortable. People who never plan to own a gun can learn how to handle one. You never know when you may have to exercise a Constitutional right. –Matt Kelemen

Fans of The Macallan don’t want to miss this limited-time experience
Singular experiences are what makes Las Vegas such a sought-after destination, and Aria adds to that tradition by introducing The Macallan pop-up inside Lobby Bar. Through December, guests are invited to the lounge to celebrate The Macallan’s 200-year anniversary by indulging in a curated menu filled with specialty cocktails, flights and exclusive pours of one of the world’s most-coveted single malt Scotch whiskies.
“Aria is renowned for collaborating with world-class partners that bring one-of-a-kind events to Las Vegas,” says Jonathan Baker, Aria director of beverage. “The Macallan is highly regarded globally for their outstanding portfolio of high-end whiskies, and we wanted to celebrate their 200-year anniversary by partnering to deliver an exclusive tasting opportunity not available anywhere else in the country.”
Lobby Bar has been completely reimagined and redecorated in deep red hues and upscale, natural furnishings to reflect The Macallan brand. Showcase boxes are filled with special-edi-
tion The Macallan bottles, and up at the bar area, guests can feast their eyes on a huge selection of The Macallan offerings from limited-edition and never-before-seen bottles to rare, extremely hard-to-find bottles and specific bottles from the estate that are no longer made or available for purchase.
Specialty cocktails use a variety of The Macallan bottles, for those that prefer to enjoy the spirit married with other flavors. Start with the Further Sky, a take on the traditional whiskey
highball, that mixes The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old with pear eau de vie fruit liqueur, honey, soda and plum bitters. “It is a classic drink that is smoky, yet not overpowering, as it is diluted by the soda and plum bitters,” Baker says. “The first sip will have a strong Scotch flavor, but then mellows out as a result of the soda and other ingredients.”
A personal favorite of this writer, who prefers a spirit much more in a cocktail, is the Sun Sign. With a sweet

twist, it mixes The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Years Old with crème de mûre blackberry liqueur, lemon, black tea and sweet cinnamon. “Sun Sign was designed for the guest that doesn’t love Scotch but enjoys the spirit in a cocktail format,” Baker says. “The beverage is on the sweeter side and offers a beautifully well-rounded combination of lemon, soft cinnamon spice and black tea notes for a refreshing taste.”

Proprietor makes his shop a cut above the rest
The thing about a good speakeasy is that it’s hard to find, but if you’re in the know, then it’s like you’re privy to an amazing secret. Such is the case with Speakeasy Barbershop at El Cortez. “We’re word of mouth and it’s the experience we give— it’s more than just a haircut and a shave,” says Andres Dominguez, Speakeasy Barbershop proprietor and barber. “When people leave, if they feel amazing, they’re going to tell people. It’s that snowball effect, and it went from there.”
What makes Speakeasy even more amazing is the fact that Dominguez’s grandfather first opened a barbershop
in the spot in 1974. He eventually sold it in 2005, but by 2019, Dominguez had purchased the place back. “I grew up in this barbershop,” Dominguez says. “I would come here when I was little. Grandpa would pay me a $2 bill, give me a glass bottle of Yoo-hoo and I would sweep up the floor.” That was the start of Dominguez’s career; he went on to work and apprentice in his uncle’s Las Vegas barbershop, Eastside Cutters, and carried on the family tradition when he opened Speakeasy Barbershop at El Cortez.

Asian cuisine absolutely shines at the impeccably appointed FUHU
By Ken Miller
There are fewer properties that have the pound-for-pound restaurant variety than Resorts World Las Vegas. It o ers just about every type of cuisine you could want—steak, seafood, vegan, Italian, Spanish, Mexican, Cantonese … the list just goes on and on. And if you’re looking for top-notch Asian cuisine, it really doesn’t get better than FUHU, where décor, service and (especially) menu will continually surprise and impress.
You’ll fi nd FUHU at the end of the bustling District (the same area where you head to both Ayu Dayclub and Zouk Nightclub). The room itself is gorgeous, decorated with a faux sakura tree in full bloom, and there’s also a patio area, perfect for enjoying the restaurant’s varied brunch menu.
Start your meal here with one of FUHU’s signature cocktails. May we suggest oh-so-cleverly named selections like Let That MAN-GO, a delicious blend of Ketel One Oranje, J.F. Haden’s mango liqueur and honey, topped with a citrus mango foam, or The Floor is Guava, a tropical concoction made with Bacardi Cuatro
añejo, Kalani coconut rum, lime and guava purée.
Appetizers, here called “Tiger Bites,” are a little bit of everything from the contemporary Asian cuisine
cornucopia. We recommend starting with smoked oysters, served here with compressed pineapple mignonette, then making your way to the crispy tun, served with rice crisp, spicy mayo,
sweet soy and crispy garlic. Other dishes include miso cod “tacos,” where bibb lettuce contains the fi sh, and chicken karaage, served with Korean sauce and green onions.
Entrées are where FUHU really shines, with choices ranging from seafood like seared scallops, seared big eye tuna and crispy Chilean sea bass, beef like Australian, American or Japanese wagyu, sizzling New York striploin, and meats like the kurobuta pork chop.
Two of the restaurant’s signatures are must-trys: the FUHU sticky lamb chop, a half-rack served with maitake and “sticky sauce,” and the FUHU aromatic crispy duck, a labor-intensive e ort best described by executive chef Justin Kalaluhi: “It’s a three-day process. We basically fabricate the duck, and we salt it for a whole day. And then we rinse it and we put a dry-wet rub on there and it sits on there for 24 hours as well. Then we braise it for two hours and then cool down, and then the next process it’ll be picked up (then fi nished) in the fi re.”
702.676.6907
Putting yourself in the chef’s hands is always an exciting experience, and with the Chef’s Table menu, you can do exactly that. A bit more expensive? Sure, but who cares when you’re enjoying a hand-picked, 28-piece, sea-
sonal selection of “Ultimate Sashimi” or tru e bara chirashi, a combination of market fi sh, avocado, asparagus, oshinko, furikake and tru e soy?
For dessert, Joe’s Candy Wontons are super-fun, crispy, Milky Way-wrapped wontons served with strawberry and chocolate sauces, while the pandan gateau is rich in flavor, a pandan-flavored cake with coconut crema, roasted rum pineapple compote and fresh raspberry sauce.

been nearly two decades since Cirque du Soleil premiered its third Las Vegas production, KÀ . The fantasy epic cemented the company’s legacy as a Strip entertainment institution and paved the way for subsequent shows such as The Beatles LOVE and Michael Jackson ONE with its bar-raising stage production. KÀ has undergone some post-pandemic revision as of late and approaching a watershed moment that will draw focus to the heroes’ journey narrative throughout 2025.
“It’s so exciting that in February we’re going to be celebrating 20 years,” says KÀ senior artistic director Kati Renaud. “When we get to these landmark anniversary years for our shows there’s a part of us that’s like ‘Oh my God. That’s incredible.’ And there’s another part that’s like ‘Yeah, let’s celebrate that, because it’s rare nowadays that shows last that long.’”
If Vegas Cirque shows were elements, Mystère would be earth, as it laid the groundwork for what
was to come. The title for “O” originates with the French word for water (“eau”) and Michael Jackson ONE represents air on several levels. KÀ is spirit energy symbolized by fire, the driving force that compels the twin sibling
which get their turns in the anniversary spotlight. Renaud has a word for the revision process for the shows. “We invest in them in order for them to have a longer life, and that’s exactly what we did with KÀ when we came
protagonists at the heart of the narrative to overcome obstacles and restore harmony to their empire.
The overall impression of traditional Asian theatrics and martial arts, technological innovations, battle-scene choreography and macro-puppetry distinguishes KÀ from its sister productions, all of
back from the pandemic,” she says. “What are we going to do to zhuzh it up? To make an upgrade, to make some enhancements? Which is something we do to our shows.”
For Renaud, that enhancement or upgrade is infused with joie de vivre (or enduring living-inthe-moment) spirit. For
KÀ , that meant new music and the first-ever female performer in the pivotal role of The Counselor, revisions that were first presented to director Robert Lepage for his blessing.
The high-tech nature of KÀ’s stage design requires a different approach than that of other Vegas productions. “With KÀ , first and foremost, always, we start technically,” says Arnaud.
“Technically, can we do this? Artistically and creatively with the battlefield, I’d love to see if we can do x, y, z. But the first box that needs to be checked is technical.”
Once those boxes are checked, possibilities can be explored. The adrenalizing excitement of the battlefield scenes, with its archers and swordsman, remain in place but have taken on contemporaneous contexts. The gravity-defying action sequences that were part of the original concept may now look like they are drones-eye views of a mixed-martial arts clash.
“It kind of plays around with the lens you see it through,” says Renaud.

When it comes to off-Strip dining options, it’s really hard to beat
This week, F1 is taking over a lot of the Las Vegas Strip, making access to some of the properties a bit ... challenging. So if you’re in town this week and want to escape the craziness surrounding the racing event, we highly recommend Chinatown, a bustling district with more than 100 different eateries. Here, we highlight just a few of the amazing options available to you. Something important to remember: There are no wrong choices!
3400 S. Jones Blvd. Ste. 11A. 702.641.1345
This award-winning Spanish tapas restaurant, the brainchild of chef Oscar Amador Edo, excels at every aspect, from front-of-house details and contemporary interior design to dish presentation and service. Dinner highlights include pollo a la plancha, a Jidori chicken thigh with prunes and pinenuts, and arroz con setas y butifarra—rice with seasonal mushrooms, Catalan sausage, Iberico lardo and sofrito. Whatever you order, pair it with Corny Jokes, a cocktail featuring Don Fulano Fuerte, corn, peach, Ancho Reyes, lime and chili-lime salt.
4120 Spring Mountain Road. 702.786.7278
Even though this is a food truck, you’ll almost always find it in the same place. It’s a true Chinatown institution, and for good reason: The food absolutely slays, and it’s very affordable to boot. If it’s your first time, you gotta order the green chili burrito, full of smoked

chicken, pinto beans, bell peppers and cheese. It goes great with prickly pear Cutty juice. One more reason this place rules: When you arrive, the ultra-friendly staff snaps your photo and places it onto a huge collection of customer photos on the awning.
3879 Spring Mountain Road.
702.201.1133
One of the more unique restaurants in Chinatown, this Mexican hot spot not only features a delicious menu of street tacos (your choice of al pastor, carne asada, carnitas, hot honey-glazed chicken or barbacoa), it also contains a flower-and skull-adorned speakeasy, accessed through a long, winding corridor. Enjoy exclusive cocktails here like the Corona Stona, featuring blanco
tequila, lime, agave, Midori, triple sec and cucumber, all served in a flasklike container to which an upended Corona beer is attached.

If you want a list of who’s who in Las Vegas (and beyond), check out this bar’s celebrity shrunken head collection near the back. You’ll find “tributes” to Carrot Top, Siegfried & Roy and Strip headliner Rod Stewart, not to mention Walt Disney and John Waters (both of whom helped inspire the bar’s look). The cocktails here are legendary and often STRONG, especially Navy Grog, a mix of Dominican and Jamaican dark and overproof rums, lime and grapefruit juices and honey syrup. This is a

Fine French dining in Chinatown? Believe it! This establishment, with a menu courtesy of chef Yuri Szarzewski, specializes in five- to nine-course tasting menus, all featuring seasonal ingredients, along with a world-class wine-pairing option (so worth the money). You can also opt to add items like seared foie gras with seasonal garnish and caviar or truffles. There’s also a Chef’s Table option facing the kitchen to see your dishes prepared in real time.

Vegetarians, vegans and omnivores will all find something to enjoy at this establishment, courtesy of owner Tony Nguyen. The menu hits every palate, all in a comfortable setting full of bold burgundy accents and earth tones. It’s the perfect place to enjoy appetizers like deep-fried fontina gougères, sticky rice balls stuffed with royal crispy crab and Peking tacos with roasted duck, and main courses like wok-tossed fivespice octopus, crispy pesto gnocchi and vegan scallops, marinated in nori broth and served with a sweet potato purée.

Sometimes simplicity is the key to success, and nowhere is that more evident than at this outpost of the San Diego-based franchise, where street tacos are the focus, all served on fresh, handmade tortillas. Whether you choose al pastor, pollo asado, carne asada or seafood, you can’t go wrong here. If burritos are more your thing, the California is highly recommended,

filled with flame-grilled Angus steak, French fries, guac, tomato and cheese. And vegetarians shouldn’t avoid this spot—you can get your tacos with nopal (cactus) or sautéed mushrooms.

The original Ichiza is one of Chinatown’s most beloved dining spots, but if you want an extra-special treat, head to this second location, which boasts 11 private dining rooms for you and your party, each decorated with lantern-style light fixtures and bamboo curtains, not to mention a button to summon your server. The options here are too hard to select from, so get a bit of everything, from beef tataki and salmon ikura salad to corn butter and spicy tangy fried chicken. Make sure to finish off your meal with Ichiza’s honey toast, easily one of the most delicious desserts you’re ever likely to have.

This reservation-only spot is highly
recommended for fans of shareable, social meals. Termed “Chinese fondue,” it all starts with a pot of broth, in which you cook your choice of many options— thinly sliced meats (choose from wagyu, lamb, pork and chicken), seafood, vegetables, mushrooms, handmade noodles and more. Best of all, the menu changes seasonally, making repeat visits practically mandatory. The signature cocktails are equally wonderful, from Harby’s Revenge, made with Ezra Brooks bourbon, black ice tea, white peach liqueur and lemon juice, to Nengmeng Drop, featuring lemon vodka, lemoncello, lemon juice and calpico.
3400 S. Jones Blvd. No. 8. 702.413.6868
Just off the main Chinatown drag, this Vietnamese restaurant, featuring a great location and spacious, comfortable setups for large groups, has been a staple since opening 10 year ago. Its focus is pho, a delicious, broth-based soup to which you can add everything from lobster and steak to braised oxtail and bone marrow, but there are also wonderful fried rice options, as well as salads and shared plates like steamed sea snails, oxtail fries and VFC wings (Vietnamese fried chicken).
3410 S. Jones Blvd. 702.227.9300
For one of the best Japanese fine-dining experiences in town, this is a must-visit. Start your evening off with small bites like jalapeño yellowtail, chicken karaage (served with negi sauce) or takoyaki skewers. Then work your way to the menu’s various carpaccios, from thinly sliced halibut and uni, salmon and halibut, and yellowtail to beef tataki and seared garlic tuna sashimi. For a truly unique experience, order something from the yakitori menu, where everything is cooked
using binchotan charcoal from Japan. Choices here range from chicken thigh and wagyu tongue to enoki mushroom bacon and pork belly.
5030 Spring Mountain Road Ste. 6. 702.367.4600
You may think you’ve tasted ramen, but until you go here, where the style served is kurume-style tonkotsu ramen, you really haven’t. This is absolutely the gold standard for this particular dish, and the options plentiful. We’d recommend starting with the classic version, featuring pork broth, thin noodles and nori (dried seaweed), topped with two slices of pork chashu, black mushrooms, bamboo shoots and green onions. We highly recommend adding nitamago, a flavored egg, to whatever you try; it adds a whole new level of flavor to what is already a terrific dish.

There are art installations to observe outside as well before entering, which is not a bad idea as the overall experience inside AREA15 leaves little energy left upon exiting. Contributions by world-class artists include Davis McCarty’s “Dream Portal” at the entrance and Kirsten Berg’s Sanskrit-and-steel sculpture “Drishti, Srishti.” “Mechan 9” by Portland’s Tyler Fuqua Creations is as easy to find as a giant robot partially submerged in sand, with hidden hatches and text that hint at its otherworldly origin.

Let Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel take you
on a historical journey
You’ve got to step away from the glittering lights of the Neon City to see the beauty of the American Southwest while you’re in the area. Few landscapes compare to the picturesque desert that surrounds the valley, with rich red sandstone formations and unique plant life. Keep driving through this terrain and you can find one of the true marvels of the Mojave: The Grand Canyon.
There are many ways to explore this natural wonder; it’s huge, after all. But one of the most scenic areas is the South Rim of the canyon, which contains the iconic Bright Angel Trail, various lookout studios and fantastic shopping. And what better way to get to this distant destination than on the Grand Canyon Railway, an experiential mode of travel that takes you
through the ecologically diverse Arizona wilderness in a relatively sustainable fashion.
The train departs bright and early from Williams, Ariz., a quaint town just west of Flagstaff, where you’ll find the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel. With warm woods, wrought iron light fixtures and gorgeous art depicting the surrounding sights, this cozy abode makes the perfect place to stay before or after your day in the park. Visitors who stay at the hotel are not only eligible for discounted train
miles of track make up the railway to the canyon.
tickets, but also get access to some pretty convenient amenities. Plus, this charming lodge sits within walking distance of the main drag of Williams, where a number of breweries, gift shops and unique attractions await.
Making the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel experience exceptionally neat, the entire property is studded with little informational tidbits about the history of the railway and surrounding infrastructure. Stop in for a sip at Spenser’s Pub, where you’ll learn about the hot spot’s namesake, George O. Spenser, who handcrafted the bar top on the promise that he’d drink free for the rest of his days. Catch lunch
Grand Canyon National Park is the second most-visited national park.
Speaking of supercool things that happen before you board the train, make sure you get to the train depot with about 20 minutes to spare so that you don’t miss the preboarding Wild West-style showdown. Appropriate for the whole family, this super short skit sets the
tone for a day filled with fun and unexpected encounters; and trust, there will be plenty of surprises.
After pictures with the cowboys and their horses, it’ll be time to or dinner buffet service in the Fred Harvey Restaurant, named after the clever entrepreneur who dedicated his efforts to creating high-quality accommodations for railroad passengers in the west in the late 1800s. Roam the hotel and train depot grounds to find all sorts of informational signage that will have your fun fact quota filled to the absolute max even before you board the train.
board the train, which is made easy thanks to the incredibly helpful attendants at every railcar. And yes, every carriage has its own bit of history that guests will learn about. Book a Pullman Class ticket for an economic option and you will ride in a 1923 Harriman-style car with bench-style seating, or splurge on first-class tickets for oversized reclining seats.
While all cars have great big windows, find an unbeatable
view in the Observation Dome, a streamliner-era car with a second-story, glassenclosed seating area that offers an entirely different vantage point for spotting wildlife or soaking in the sun. For travelers 16 and older, consider booking the Luxury Dome for access to a private bar and a spacious ground-level
lounge. Riders who’d prefer plush seating should consider booking the Luxury Parlor, which has its own private bar and couch-style seating. What’s the best part of the upgraded seating options, you ask? They have morning and afternoon snacks! Once you’ve settled into your seat, sit back and listen to
Get into the spirit of the season with a nighttime ride on the Polar Express (inspired by the classic children’s book), which transports visitors straight to the North Pole,
where they’ll find Santa Claus and his reindeer waiting with gifts for everybody on the “nice” list. Enjoy chocolate chip cookies and hot cocoa while performers and the nighttime wilderness provide plenty of entertainment. This 90-minute round-trip adventure is perfect for families with small kids and anyone who loves a bit of Christmas magic.

people visit Grand Canyon National Park annually. (And the number continues to grow!)
Roaming musicians also make their way through the train playing acoustic renditions of classic tunes, like John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel,” and boy, are they talented! Before you know it, it will
The Grand Canyon Railway keeps approximately 60,000 cars out of the park each year, reducing emissions and helping keep the air clean.
On Steam Saturdays, the railway runs its “French Fry Express,” a restored 1920s steam locomotive that runs recycled waste vegetable oil. A single round trip uses 1,200 gallons of oil in place of coal or diesel fuel.
Each trip to the South Rim requires 12,000-15,000 gallons of water, and to counteract that, the company uses a million-gallon water retention pond to collect rainwater and snow, which reduces potable water use.
Purple pipes may seem like an eyesore, but these colorful conduits carry reclaimed water from the Grand Canyon Reclamation Plant.
In 2019, the International Dark-Sky Association recognized the Grand Canyon as the International Dark Sky Place of the Year after intensive lightpollution reduction efforts. Dark skies are vital to ensuring wildlife survival and maintaining the overall rhythm of ecosystems.
be time to disembark and see what you came here for in the first place, the Grand Canyon! If you worked up an appetite on your journey, stop into any of the various gift shops for some grab-and-go eats and have a picnic along the rim walk, or for a finer dining option, stop into El Tovar Hotel for unique dishes like elk Bolognese with fresh mozzarella and basil. With a full belly, you’re ready to shop and hike all around the South Rim. Wherever you decide to dine, don’t feed the squirrels! Seriously, nobody wants to spend their souvenir money on a rabies shot.
Speaking of souvenirs, wander into the Hopi House to shop for authentic goods made by native artisans from the surrounding tribe. Built entirely out of clay, the dwelling resembles pueblo-style structures found in Oriabi, Ariz., and contains plenty of impressive art to peruse.
If you prefer to soak up the scenery, head to the lookout studio, which not only has its own shopping element, but has multiple incredible vantage points for birdwatching, photography and more!
With a keen eye, you may spot jays, falcons or crows in the canyon skies. With incredible luck, birders
might spot one of the rarest flying friends in the world, the California condor. This critically endangered species is North America’s largest bird and lives in and around the
Grand Canyon.
Other wildlife to watch out for include mule deer and bighorn sheep. Elk also make appearances from time to time, which are magical to see in person ... from a safe distance. Remember: you’re in the great outdoors, not a petting zoo.
For a more physical activity, consider the 1.5-mile rim walk, which is relatively flat and perfect for small children and people with limited mobility. More daring explorers may want to try
a mile or two of the steep Bright Angel Trail that descends into the canyon. You won’t be able to hike the entire route before the returning train departs, so make sure you keep an eye on the time. Also, save a few dollars for the ride back. No spoilers here, but you never know when you’ll need something to offer a squad of cowboys committing a train robbery. (Wink, wink.)
The Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel is the largest employer in Williams, Ariz.
ORACLE RED
BULL RACING
MAX VERSTAPPEN
» CONFIRMED
SERGIO PÉREZ
» CONFIRMED
On paper at least, the Red Bull Racing lineup looks secure. In 2022, Max signed a bountiful five-year contract extension that will keep him at the team until the end of 2028. Checo, meanwhile, signed a two-year extension this past May, which should keep him at the team until the end of 2026. Despite internal upheavals and speculation that Max might plot an exit strategy, the Dutchman has reiterated his commitment to the team. Checo, too, has insisted that he’s going nowhere, but the rumor mill grinds on regardless.
MCLAREN
LANDO NORRIS
» CONFIRMED
OSCAR PIASTRI
» CONFIRMED
Recognizing that it has a formidable pairing on its hands, McLaren was one of the earliest to lock down its 2025 lineup. Norris put pen to paper on an “extended multi-year” deal in January of this year, while Piastri, who has already delivered two wins this season, also committed to a longterm deal in September.
FERRARI
CHARLES LECLERC
» CONFIRMED
LEWIS HAMILTON
» CONFIRMED
Ferrari staged perhaps the biggest coup of 2024 with the signing of Lewis Hamilton for 2025. The pairing certainly has romance—with the sport’s biggest winner joining its most famous team—but whether it has a fairy-tale ending remains to be seen. Hamilton has struggled lately in qualifying—a loss of form he has lamented but been unable to remedy—and up against Leclerc, who is one of the grid’s quickest drivers over one lap, it might be a tough year for Hamilton. But in grand prix races he remains a force. Leclerc, meanwhile, signed a multiyear extension at the start of this year.

» CONFIRMED ANDREA KIMI ANTONELLI
» CONFIRMED
Mercedes has known it could rely on Russell since inking a two-year extension in 2023. But while the team thought Lewis Hamilton was locked down, having agreed to a two-year deal with the Briton last year, he announced in February that he’d be switching to Ferrari for 2025. To replace the seven-time champ, Mercedes are gambling on youth with Andrea Kimi Antonelli. A champion at every level he’s raced and twice an F2 winner this season, the Italian is one of motorsports’ brightest talents. In a recent free practice run in Mexico, he showed that he’s fast, confident and capable.
ALPINE PIERRE GASLY
» CONFIRMED
JACK DOOHAN
» CONFIRMED
It’s been a chaotic year for Alpine—both drama behind the scenes as senior personnel came and went, and upheavals with the driver lineup. The spiky relationship between childhood friends Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly flared on several occasions, but when Ocon took it to the level of disobeying team orders in Monaco and crashed into his teammate, Alpine decided enough was enough. Ocon will leave the team at the end of this season and his place will be taken by reserve driver Jack Doohan, who finished third in the 2023 F2 championship. Gasly, meanwhile, stays on, having signed a longterm deal in June.
e 2024 driver market has been one of the most volatile in recent memory, but the great shake-up is now entering its endgame. Here’s a rundown of who’s going where for 2025—and what’s le to ght for?

YUKI TSUNODA
OLIVER BEARMAN
» CONFIRMED
Haas gets an all-new lineup for 2025. Blending experience and precocious youth, the Ferrari-powered team will field Alpine discard Esteban Ocon in one car and 2024 supersub Ollie Bearman in the other. Ferrari junior driver Bearman made a superb debut at this year’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, racing to seventh at the flag in place of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. The 19-year-old did it again in Azerbaijan, finishing in the points in the far less competitive Haas. Definitely a pairing to watch in 2025.
» CONFIRMED TBD
» NOT CONFIRMED
In June, VCARB smartly took up its option on Yuki Tsunoda for 2025. The move was fitting reward for a driver who had scored points in five of the first races. The destination of the second seat at the Italian squad is open to question, however. Daniel Ricciardo is out, and his replacement, Liam Lawson, has a sixrace stint to claim the seat, or possibly even one at Red Bull. Lawson, whose return has been impressive, would seem a shoo-in, but there are rumors that others, such as Franco Colapinto, are also in the frame.
WILLIAMS
ALEX ALBON
» CONFIRMED CARLOS SAINZ
» CONFIRMED
From being a team that once struggled to attract drivers, Williams suddenly have an embarrassment of riches. Albon, who has routinely impressed, was handed a multiyear extension in May. And then, after seemingly interminable talks, Ferrari refugee Carlos Sainz eventually chose Williams over Sauber/ Audi. Trouble is, while all that happened, Logan Sargeant’s replacement, Franco Colapinto, decided that he wants to be F1’s next big thing. Williams boss James Vowles has said he’ll try to help Colaptino find a seat elsewhere, but the smart option might be to retain the Argentine as a reserve, just in case.
SAUBER
NICO HÜLKENBERG
» CONFIRMED TBD
» NOT CONFIRMED
It’s all change (maybe) as Sauber prepares to become Audi in 2026. The team has hired the veteran Nico Hülkenberg for his developmental skills, brains and stillvaunted pace, but the other seat remains F1’s most hotely contested opening. Atop the list: experienced incumbent Valtteri Bottas; rookie sensation Colapinto; McLaren-affiliated Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (who won the 2023 F3 title and is on course to repeat that feat in F2 this year); and former Haas driver and current Mercedes reserve Mick Schumacher. Sauber’s other driver, Zhou Guanyu, remains a longshot bet.

» CONFIRMED
LANCE STROLL
» CONFIRMED
No change at Aston Martin, with 43-year-old Fernando Alonso signing a two-year extension in April that will take the Spanish veteran through into F1’s next regulation phase in 2026. Lance Stroll’s future with the team, a foregone conclusion, was confirmed by the team in June, with Aston Martin saying the deal would also take the boss’s son through to the new regs and beyond.
GET READY FOR THE LAS VEGAS GP with this handy preview of the track layout, with insight on where the key passes and crashes happened last year.
TURNS 6-9
Drivers accelerate into Turn 6 and then must navigate a tricky slow-speed chicane. Esteban Ocon is one of the few who made a successful overtake here last year, passing Logan Sargeant on Lap 14.
TURNS 10-11
These corners, snaking between Wynn Las Vegas and the Venetian, are taken flat-out in eighth gear, with speeds reaching 180 mph.
TURN 12
A good exit from this turn is critical for the high-speed drag down the Strip that follows. Last year, Lando Norris lost control of his McLaren on the approach on Lap 3, and later, Max Verstappen and George Russell collided, causing another Safety Car deployment.
TURN 5
At the end of the Koval straightaway, drivers must brake and decelerate as they approach the Sphere. Last year, this is where Alex Albon hit the wall in FP3 and also where Oscar Piastri made a bold pass on Pierre Gasly midway through the grand prix.
TURNS 2-4
Drivers must accelerate through this sequence. Last year, Lewis Hamilton executed a daring earlyrace pass around Yuki Tsunoda here. The first of two DRS zones follows the exit of Turn 4.
TURN 13
The high-speed kink of Turn 13, located a third of the way down the Strip, precedes the circuit’s second DRS zone. The 1.2-mile fullthrottle stretch that follows is the secondlongest straight on the F1 calendar. Last year, cars reached speeds exceeding 210 mph here.
TURN 1
This hairpin is located just 218 yards from the starting grid. On last year’s opening lap, this is where Max Verstappen grabbed the lead from pole-sitter Charles Leclerc—and several collisions happened behind them.
START/FINISH STRAIGHT
The 3.85-mile circuit starts and finishes at Grand Prix Plaza, a 39acre complex housing a state-ofthe-art, 300,000-square-foot pit and paddock building that spans the length of three football fields.
TURN 17
The final turn of the course is a lefthander taken at full throttle. Last year, Hamilton made a bold overtake of Gasly here with just five laps remaining in the race.
TURN 14
Last year, several exciting passes happened on this turn that impacted the race lead, as Verstappen, Leclerc and Sergio Pérez—the eventual top three in the race— all made passes here.
TURN 15-16
With the entrance to pit row looming, drivers must navigate these two turns before reaching the final corner of the course. Last year, Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri made contact here, and both picked up tire punctures.
Las Vegas has the best entertainment & hospitality experiences in the country and The Fortune Events team looks forward to adding an exciting layer to the destination events, boutique catering & luxury dining portfolio.
