A Golden Age of Entertainment
Showman invites fans to revisit a decadeslong career
Fans of Donny and Marie who have heard Donny Osmond speak lately would tell you his voice hasn’t aged since the variety show’s ratings reign in the late ’70s. Osmond, who celebrated three years and 300 performances of his Las Vegas Strip residency last summer, maintains his singing ability through a combination of good genes, healthy living and vocal exercises. And from boyhood stardom to teen idolatry through television successes and stage comebacks, his faithful fans have been there at every turn.
He raps. He reminisces. He’s complemented by a dynamic live band led by drummer Earl Campbell and dancing dynamos captained by superstar-in-waiting Miki Catherine. He also meets fans for preshow Q&As, where attendees are often repeat VIPs. Osmond covers his entire career from “Puppy Love” to “Soldier of Love.” That includes material from early ’70s Osmonds albums such as Phase III and Crazy Horses
“Phase III, actually I like that album,” said Osmond in an exclusive interview with Las Vegas Magazine hours before an early August show at Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“What’s interesting is the Osmonds’ trajectory as a band was more rock ’n’ roll. I don’t know if I would go so far as heavy metal, although Metallica … James Hetfield said they used to do “Crazy Horses” in their setlist. Metallica said this. Ozzy Osbourne told me it’s one of his favorite rock ’n’ roll songs of all time.”
Hetfield would have been 8 when Phase III cuts such as “Down By the Lazy River” were in heavy rotation on AM radio stations. That album’s proto-metal song “My Drum” may have been the heaviest track he was allowed to play in his home during his strict religious upbringing due to the Osmonds’ wholesome image.
“It’s really interesting when you think about the different styles of music that I’ve done,” said Osmond, whose “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from the Mulan soundtrack has been streamed on Spotify more than 333 million times. “Yeah, I was known primarily as a teenybopper … But it’s kind of a misconception as to who I was through the years that’s slowly eroding away.” –Matt Kelemen

Tomb Time
Explore ancient Egypt at this Strip exhibit
OK, so you didn’t spend your vacation funds booking a trip to Giza, Egypt, to see the royal tombs that line the banks of the Nile River. We get it—it’s kind of far and there are significantly fewer buffets (probably), but that doesn’t mean you have to endure a whole vacation without a heavy dose of ancient Egyptian history. Simply stop by the Great Pyramid of Las Vegas (aka Luxor) with its space-searing light beam and take a stroll through Discovering King Tut’s Tomb—The Experience
Once inside, you’ll find yourself completely immersed in all things ancient Egypt, from the events leading up to the discovery of King Tut’s tomb to the daily life of this ancient civilization, including cultural traditions and burial rituals. A wealth of replicas of artifacts from inside King Tut’s tomb have been carefully crafted by Egyptian artisans employing the same methods used to create the originals. You’ll also find more fun facts than you can imagine delivered via videos, slideshows and placards.
The way this attraction has been designed pretty much ensures every visitor will walk away having learned something new. One of the first experiences here puts explorers right in the shoes of Howard Carter, the archaeologist who struck gold in the Valley of Kings when he uncovered the tomb of Tutankhamen. Peer through slots in a faux stone wall to see a bit of what Howard saw as excavators worked to remove the walls that sealed this time capsule for thousands of years, or simply enjoy the educational material and transportive ambience in the space.
More discoveries await around each corner. One room contains a life-sized re-creation of the multilevel sarcophagus that protected King Tut’s mummified remains, while others display everyday objects and spiritual idols that the king would have been buried with for various purposes. Virtual displays outline the mummification process and the quality of life King Tut experienced. There are even tidbits about other prominent ancient Egyptians like Queen Nefertiti. –Em Jurbala

Head to the Strip to see a genre-defining band
It was bittersweet to see The B-52s, a band that practically invented new wave music in the late-’70s and early 80’s, stop touring in 2022-’23. But it’s beyond thrilling to see the “everything’s a party” band come to Vegas annually ever since for a series of shows guaranteed to get everyone dancing in the aisles.
Frontman Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson have a healthy catalog ready for diehard fans. Expect to hear “Love Shack,” “Roam,” “Planet Claire” and “Rock Lobster” (a song that was fa-
mously cited by John Lennon in 1980 as inspiring him to not only return to writing music but also create his Double Fantasy album), as well as lesser-known but still propulsive and fun tracks.
“We want to do songs we didn’t do on the last tour and the last time we were in Vegas,” Schneider said in an interview with Las Vegas Magazine. He added that the band loves performing in Las Vegas. “The lighting’s there. We don’t have to schlep and rent stuff. Sound’s good. They’ve treated us really well.”
Schneider, who considers himself more of a comedian than vocalist, said of the group’s decision to stay put rather than tour: “I just was tired of touring. Flying is not … very rarely do we fly a private jet, so it’s like getting to the airport, going to the airport. What a chore. I’m not a people person. I just want to tell people to shut up.” –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

It’s Island Time
Have an upscale tiki bar experience at Resorts World
It’s a tiki bar all grown up! Golden Monkey Tiki Lounge “is a one-ofa-kind escape in the heart of Resorts World Las Vegas providing guests with a vibrant island-inspired oasis to savor the flavors of tropical life,” said Vildan Buric, director of beverage at its host property.
It’s paradise mixed with luxury, and it has the drinks and atmosphere to put the experience right in the sweet spot. Mood lighting, comfortable chairs, island-inspired décor and a musical playlist that punches up the island tiki vibe also make Golden Monkey a must-visit. And a cool extra: You can tell your friends back home all about it when you pick up a free postcard at the bar. Fill it out and the staff will mail it for you to anywhere in the world.
Seven classic tiki cocktails make the menu, longtime familiars like the Mai Tai, Rum Runner and Scorpion. But Golden Monkey excels at original, specialty cocktails with unique ingredients like the One Way Ticket, a blend of Appleton Estate 8 Year Reserve rum, Hamilton 86 Demerara rum, Chinola passion fruit liqueur, Heirloom pineapple amaro liqueur, lime, pineapple and orgeat. The cocktail is then dusted with cinnamon over an open flame, sending sparks into the air. The Birds
of Paradise uses pandan to create a tasty treat when mixed with Bacardi Superior rum, Chinola pineapple liqueur, orange, lime and pineapple; pandan is a banana-like leaf steeped in a simple syrup, which adds a nutty, vanilla and herbaceous flavor to any cocktail recipe. For those that like something a little stronger, in the vein of an Old-Fashioned or Negroni, try the Funky Monkey. The deep, strong cocktail with a silky mouthfeel is a mix of Teeling Irish whiskey, Giffard banana du Brésil liqueur, Kalani coconut liqueur, bitters and nutmeg.
If you’re with a group, no place does shareable cocktails better than a tiki bar, and Golden Monkey sticks to this tradition with its own punch bowls like The Hurricane, pictured, or the Red Monkey Fishbowl. Rum lovers should lean toward The Hurricane with its blend of Bacardi Superior rum, Myers’s dark rum, grenadine and pineapple, orange and lime juices, while vodka lovers will delight in the Red Monkey Fishbowl mix of Tito’s Handmade vodka, lychee liqueur, Fever-Tree sparkling pink grapefruit and watermelon and lime juices. –Kiko Miyasato

Just Can’t Beat It
The songs of Michael Jackson occupy a rarefied air that few other artistic creations achieve. His entire catalog is celebrated by fans more than a decade after his untimely passing in 2009, and since then his estate has generated more than $2 billion. Not only do songs like “Billie Jean” and “Thriller” gets us on our feet and dancing, they never seem to age. It’s a big reason why fans return again and again to Michael Jackson ONE , Cirque du Soleil’s tribute to the King of Pop.
For the uninitiated, ONE takes Jackson’s most iconic songs and brings them to vibrant life through a series of vignettes that Cirque excels at: Acrobatics, dancing, aerial maneuvers and so much more. And while many Cirque productions are more cryptic in the story that’s actually being told, ONE follows a relatively linear storyline: A group of “Misfits,” each representing an aspect of Jackson’s essence, are pursued by bad guys throughout the show, in the process
embarking on journeys of self-discovery. There are four iconic elements of Jackson’s image—a hat, sunglasses, pair of shoes and a spangled glove—that come into play during the course of the show.
The real highlight of ONE comes near the end, using state-of-the-art technology to … well, let’s just say you’ll love the way it will make you feel. –Ken Miller

Enticing lounge at The Venetian hits the sweet spot
Five words you’ll utter as you walk through the doors of Juliet Cocktail Room at The Venetian: “Wow, this place is gorgeous!” Your eyes immediately go to the back wall, where a mirrored, gold-hued bar showcases spirits that line shelves and retro bar stools beckon drinkers to take a seat. The interior design is Victorianinspired opulence mixed with a balanced combination of modern and vintage pieces throughout the space, which includes a sizable main room and an intimate back room that gives off private library vibes.
Equally as visually enticing are Juliet Cocktail Room’s libations. “We put so much emphasis and thought into the design and décor of the space that we knew we needed to continue that theme into our cocktail program,” said Ryan Labbe, owner of Juliet Cocktail Room. “All of our glassware was handpicked and vetted by our team to ensure that it ‘gives a show!’ The cocktails bring energy to the room, and we love that our guests take photos
and share. We want it to be part of the overall experience.”
Eyes do surely dart around the room any time one of Juliet’s specialty cocktails are brought to a table. The glassware is impressive, and the garnishes add the extra flair. But is it only about the looks? Absolutely not. Two noteworthy stars are: 1.) The Oak and Orange. “The Oak and Orange is a spin

Fate guides this native Las Vegan
It’s a little bit of fate that brought Steven Keith’s life full circle. Today, the native Las Vegan works as a museum guide at The Neon Museum; when he was little, he played outside of his grandpa’s house across the street from an empty dirt lot where the museum now stands. “It’s like cosmic destiny for me,” he says. “You can still see the roof of his house from here (as he points it out while we stand inside the museum’s Neon Boneyard).”
Keith, a third-generation Las Vegan,
grew up hearing stories about the town from his mom. “She was driving us around town, and it was like being in a museum—she had a story for every 100 yards of this city,” he says. It’s safe to say Keith is stocked up on the city knowledge, and the rest of his knowledge comes from the training he received when he joined the museum two years ago.
Keith takes guests on a 45-minute tour through the boneyard sharing stories and facts about the restored neon signs.
• Souvenirs • The Neon Museum has an awesome gift shop with tons of souvenirs that celebrate the city. Everything from keepsakes and clothes to accessories and home goods are based on signage, logos and designs of some of the city’s most famous hotels and landmarks. –KM
When not guiding a tour you can find him around the boneyard ready to answer questions or share some fun anecdotes.
“We have more signs lit up than ever before,” Keith says. “We’re up to 28 fully illuminated signs, fully restored. It’s cool to be a part of that. In 2012, when we first opened, we only had three that lit up, so we’re going in the right direction. New dishes hit the menu at Balla Italian Soul
Something about Italian food just hits di erent. Melty cheeses, robust tomato sauces, bright and fragrant herbs … it all provides so much flavor while leaving diners feeling replete. While there are many incredible restaurants that o er this delicious experience on the Strip, Balla Italian Soul at SAHARA Las Vegas has mastered it, courtesy of executive chef Shawn McClain, whose ingredient-focused dishes feature fresh flavors and seasonal foods. At this comfy Stripside locale, if you’re not ordering something for the table, you’re doing it wrong. Fans of baba ganoush will be obsessed with the roasted eggplant dip. slightly salty, crumbly Italian cheese. Roasted garlic, pickled peppers and mint complete this delicious dip and add their own pops of piquancy.
Want a bit of bite? Consider the blue fi n tuna crudo, made with red onion, capers, lemon and olive oil. Crunch on a crisp Caesar salad for something familiar or slurp down some West Coast oysters with tomato mignonette, horseradish and agrumato for a bit of adventure.
After enjoying a few starters, a pasta course might as well be required. Order the chicken cannelloni and savor the luscious Alfredo sauce that coats each stu ed noodle. Toasted rosemary adds a bit of texture and fragrance to the plate, and a sprinkle of Parmesan ties it all together. If red sauce is more your thing, try tomato casarecce with garlic, Calabrian
chili and basil.
Hopefully you still have room for some mains, because there are some stunners in this portion of the menu. Steak lovers will fi nd an array of options, including a delectable 14-day dryaged Flannery 14-ounce New York. Of course, this restaurant serves an exquisite chicken Parm, but for something a bit di erent, consider the Mediterranean sea bream. With lemon butter, capers and wild greens, this fi sh dish conjures chicken piccata vibes, but with the mild, meaty protein.
The sea bream pairs so nicely with a glass of vermentino, but no matter what bites you order, your server can recommend a sip to complement. We love the spritz citron, a citrusy, bubbly bev with basil.
Order a cappuccino and a few sweet treats to close out the bill.

The Linq Hotel with bottomless mimosas and a side of men
It’s never easy moving a production from one location to another, but for Chippendales, it was the smart move. The capacity at their new home inside The Linq Hotel is four times that of their showroom at the Rio Las Vegas, where they got up close and personal with patrons for more than two decades. Adjacency to The Linq Promenade means constant exposure to potential new audience members uninitiated in the ways of bowtie collars and cu s.
The start of a new chapter for Chippendales also provides opportunities for new numbers and auditions for new male revue prospects. It’s an exciting time for cast members such as Jayson Michael, an eight-year Las Vegas Chippendale who dances, sings and hosts the show.
“The move has been great,” says Michael. “We did an amazing 22, almost 23 years at the Rio. We were known for that location. It was our own personal theater. We got to hold it down ourselves, but the transition to the Strip brings so much life to the
show, because not only are we able to re-create and revamp a lot of the show, but it gives us the opportunity to grab audiences that we might not have had because of the location.”
Mid-Strip foot tra c helps fill Mat Franco Theater, which is similarly sized to the venues Chippendales schedules for tours. Birthdays and bachelorette parties predominate, but there are more pairs, couples and singles in attendance. The demographic skews younger as well, due to the popularity of the Promenade with Vegas visitors of all ages.
Chippendales was the only show of its kind when it first opened. Now there’s competition, with films and streaming television providing publicity for male revues on a scale that didn’t exist 20 years ago.
“You have to figure out what your niche is, what your brand is,” says Michael. “We were the first ones to do it. We do it in a way that we know works for us, which is very tasteful but also very risqué and seductive. Regardless
By Matt Kelemen
of the competition, if we stick to what our brand is and what we do, and what we do well, there’s room for everyone to be successful.”
A tasteful tip: Chippendales collaborates with Chayo Mexican Kitchen + Bar at The Linq Promenade for a weekly “Chipps and Salsa” brunch and show package at 1 p.m. Sundays. Diners drink bottomless mimosas with shirtless Chipps on the side before 2:30 p.m. shows.
A daytime presentation does not detract from the dynamic atmosphere that depends as much on performance as audience response. Light bondage, live musicians, cowboy cool, cascading showers and onstage immersion for at least one lucky guest are highlights.
“The show works in a progression,” says Michael. “We start slow. We don’t give everything away in the beginning, and then as we start to ramp up the audience and the audience starts to get more involved, the numbers do get a little more risqué. … We want the energy and excitement to build.”

Carrie Underwood’s ‘Reflection’ residency ends its successful run on a high note
By Matt Kelemen
It’s very fitting that Carrie Underwood’s Reflection residency is coming to an end after she joined American Idol as a judge for Season 23 of the talent competition series. After all, that’s the show that started it all.
“The timing did work out beautifully as Idol came together,” said Underwood in an email interview. “It’s a bit of a full-circle moment for me in a number of ways, given that the Reflection show is really a celebration of my career so far, which I owe so much of to American Idol. And similar to the residency, the Idol schedule is spread out over time, so neither meant being away from home for too long at one time.”
board ’s pop singles chart. Her experience provides her with an insight into and empathy for a contestant’s perspective.
“I know exactly what they are going through and how vulnerable it is to stand in front of the judges and leave your heart on the stage,” said Underwood. “I always want to be honest and to give them some real feedback . ... I love that this is my chance to be a small part of someone else’s journey.”
Underwood is in her prime as a performer as well, as anyone who has attended Reflection can attest. It’s been a good time in her life to take on the physical demands of a Vegas headlining engagement, picking up an elec-
Underwood participated alongside veteran judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan during production for the latest season of Idol, replacing ex-Resorts World headliner Katy Perry. The move coincides with the 20th anniversary of her season four win and release of her fi rst single, “Inside Your Heaven,” which debuted at No. 1 on Bill-
tric guitar to power-chord along to “Church Bells” and hitting the high notes to “Blown Away” from an elevated platform as acrobats rise above the stage on spinning rings.
“I love what we got to do with our big ‘Something in the Water’ fi nale,” said Underwood. “The water wall is something we could have never done with
a touring production, so getting to put that onstage was a dream come true for me.”
The shows have also been a platform for the talents of a live band that includes musical director/bassist Mark Childers, guitarists Ed Eason and Matt Riviere, drummer Seth Rausch, steel guitarist Chad Je ers, fiddlers Jordan Lawson and Sydni Perry, and keyboardist Scott Sheri .
With Underwood’s immediate schedule being occupied with Idol, now is a good time to look back with her at Resorts World before the singer plans the next steps in her future.
“Twenty years is quite a milestone and the residency has defi nitely been a highlight,” said Underwood. “I’m always doing shows, whether it’s these, festivals, or other live events, so that will continue. Performing live and touring is probably the
favorite part of what I’m lucky enough to get to do, whether we’re coming to you in your town or you’re coming from all over the world to see us in Vegas. I love it all.”

When the sun goes down, go where the industry folks go
Who better to tell you how and where to enjoy the city once the sun goes down than the people that help run it? We’ve gathered some great recommendations—dining, drinking, entertainment and more— from people in the know to help put Las Vegas visitors in the know.
“I love going to because it’s perfect for a romantic night out. The venue itself is upscale, vibrant, and intimate dining with a party vibe. They serve modern Asian cuisine and have some of my favorite specialty cocktails, including the Heart of Fire. … When it comes to the menu, be sure to try the crispy tuna and wagyu beef pot stickers.”
–Brittany Ashton, bartender at Ayu Dayclub at Resorts World Las Vegas
“ inside the Encore stands out for several reasons that contribute to its exceptional reputation: the unbelievable Mexican food, the fresh margaritas, the lively ambience, and the exceptional service. It is a must-visit when family and friends are in town.”
–Alexis Warren, VIP services manager at Legacy Club and Stadium Swim at Circa Resort & Casino
“ at Park MGM is one of my go-to spots for a late-night experience in Vegas. When you first walk in, it gives o this cool speakeasy vibe because the restaurant is tucked behind a throwback classic Korean convenience store, adding a sense of mystery and fun before you even sit down. Once inside, the vibrant, party-like space blends Korean flavors with L.A. street culture, creating an atmosphere that feels both casual and upscale. “I love to stop by at Park MGM after a show. The craft cocktails are unique and delicious, and the music is incredible, which, as a professional dancer, is a must for me. It is a beautiful place to grab a drink while listening to a fabulous DJ. My favorite is the lavender lemonade—it is as delicious as it is beautiful, and it even has edible glitter in it!”
–Ashton Bray, performance director and dancer in Fantasy: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease at Luxor
“I love to visit at Park MGM. It is a stunning, library-themed restaurant that is perfect for date night or a cozy gathering with friends. You must get there in the wee hours of the night, it really doesn’t start to ramp up until after 1 a.m. or later.
There is often a wild, live band playing an array of genres from surf classics to emo. My go-to cocktail is the Navy Grog, a masterful blend of three di erent kinds of rums with grapefruit and lime juice.”

Brian Regan touches up his colorful comedy with family-friendly flair
Brian Regan went into hibernation during the pandemic and emerged as a senior citizen. At least that’s what he told fans at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre show recorded for his 2021 Netfl ix special Brian Regan: On the Rocks. He may have been making a joke, but he is an elder statesman of comedy at this point, still drawing capacity crowds and still delivering relatable PG-rated comedy after more than four decades in the business.

Regan’s hair was a shock of white at Red Rocks, hence the joke. It’s easy to visualize Regan on a beauty products aisle coolly approaching the small shelf of hair coloring for men as he describes the anecdote in vivid detail accompanied by body movement and facial expression interpretation. He may have grown out of Grecian Formula, but his comedic formula continues to tint his comedy with family friendly hues.
A 1991 appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson raised Regan’s profi le at a time when observational humor was in its salad days. Showtime special Something’s Wrong With The

What hasn’t changed is his ability to tell a joke about something that the listener feels like they experienced—or could have. He has a preternatural grasp of observational humor and a fertile imagination from which he plucks comedic produce from. The influence of George

Seinfeld has picked Regan up in a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A and a Cadillac XLR convertible (Regan’s favorite) on java runs, touting him as one of his favorite comedians, “a good friend and just a straightup goo all. That’s the kind of guy I like to hang out with.”
Regan’s the kind of straightup goo all a lot of comedy fans would like to hang out with. He’s built up the kind of fan base that needs someone to articulate the absurdity of fi lling out medical forms on clipboards in the age of microchips, or the weirdness of massages. They need someone

“The plain white masks worn by the Jabbawockeez hold significant importance as they symbolize anonymity, unity, and artistic expression within the realm of hip-hop dance. These masks have become iconic in our performances, serving as a visual representation of our collective identity and unique style. Through our skilled choreography and captivating routines, we have elevated the plain white mask to a symbol of artistry and creativity in the world of dance entertainment.” – Joe Larot, Jabbawockeez co-founder and co-chief executive officer
Dance crew and Strip headliners Jabbawockeez spread their talent across Las Vegas and the world
By Kiko Miyasato
They became the first dance crew to have a headlining show on the Strip. (Check out the most recent version of their production, Timeless, at MGM Grand.) They helped set the standard for the art form with their inimitable creativity. (Check out their otherworldly moves and distinct costuming.) They were
essential in bringing street dance and breaking to such a high level of prominence that it’s now an Olympic sport. (Did you check out the breaking competition during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where a new generation of dancers represented the U.S.?) The Jabbawockeez have broken through barriers in more ways than one and
have stepped into a realm of their own while staying true to their roots. And check this out: In this issue, Las Vegas Magazine celebrates the icons by “transporting” them to locales far and wide. We also checked in with two founding members of the groundbreaking crew and asked them some burning questions.

“From 2000 to about 2002, we were a group of friends that found each other through a love for hip-hop and dance. Having been from different crews, we all brought something different to the collective. We are a product of dance culture; we mixed the styles we grew up learning and formed some type of hybrid that became unique to us. Our motivations at the time were about showmanship; we were able to hone this skill by creating shows for local dance competitions or state fair events. We sensed that there was a lane for us to innovate the dance scene, it just required that we ‘think outside of the box,’ and hence myself and Joe developed the idea that would become Jabbawockeez.” – Kevin “KB” Brewer, Jabbawockeez co-founder and co-chief executive officer
“Ah, the special sauce that launched the Jabbawockeez into stardom is a tantalizing blend of innovation, precision, and a dash of magical charisma. Our choreography is like a gourmet dish of dance moves, carefully crafted with intricate footwork, synchronized movements and a sprinkle of theatrical flair that leaves audiences craving more. … In essence, our special sauce lies in our recipe for constant evolution and never-ending creativity that keeps our performances spicy and unforgettable.” – Joe Larot
Shot on location at The Neon Museum, Las Vegas
“… The Jabbawockeez’s trending popularity landed us an opportunity to perform in a ballroom for a private group of MGM executives. Recognizing the potential of the Jabbawockeez, MGM offered a trial run of a full production show for a limited time in the David Copperfield Theater. The Jabbawockeez show was such a hit that our now-longtime partners at MGM requested that we add more shows and dates. After the extended trial run, it was very clear that we had what it took to captivate an audience in Las Vegas.” – Kevin “KB” Brewer
Shot on location at Fremont Street Experience
“… When choreographing the show, we aimed to elicit a range of emotions from the audience. We wanted them to experience a journey of nostalgia, love, passion, resilience and, ultimately, hope. Through carefully crafted movements and music selection, we created a seamless flow of storytelling that captured the essence of human emotions and connected with the audience on a profound level. Our vision was to create an immersive experience where the audience could feel the emotions portrayed through dance, allowing them to be transported into a world where music and movement speak louder than words.” – Joe Larot
