DARTS: GMIT TO PLAY NUIG

REPEAT ‘EXAM ONLY’ FEE

GMIT Darts Club are playing NUIG in their college bar on the 21st November. SUPPORT NEEDED!!!

As some of you may be aware a decision was taken by the GMIT Governing Body to increase the fee for an ‘exam only’ repeat of a module from 30 euro per module to a 300 euro flat charge, regardless of the number of modules.

PARKING NOTICE Please note that Galway Corporation have informed us that they will be ticketing cars parked illegally (at the Corrib Great Southern entrance, or other locations off campus). PLEASE USE ALTERNATIVE PARKING AVAILABLE AT GALWEGIANS RUGBY GROUND (next to Flannerys)

PLEASE KEEP LECTURE ROOMS CLEAN! It is not permitted to eat or drink in lecture theatres, class rooms and labs. We have erected signage to this effect on all doors but local verbal reinforcement will help achieve this.

PROMOTIONAL STAFF WANTED! Campus.ie are looking for promo staff in Galway, if you are outgoing and a good talker, drop us a line to reps@campus.ie, and enclose your CV if possible.

Find the event ON FACEBOOK http://www.facebook.com/ event.php?eid=193476217393 811&ref=ts Email gmitdartsclub@gmail. com for more info

CANTEEN THEFT GMIT Catering Co. have made us aware of a number of robberies which have taken place in the canteen over the past couple of weeks, which have escalated significantly. They have been able to identify the students involved through CCTV footage, and although we are trying to ensure that these incidents be viewed leniently at this point of the year, it has got to the stage where any further incidents will be brought to the Disciplinary Committee here in the college. We would ask you to bear this in mind over the course of the year.

The justification for this increase was that: 1) The huge discrepancy between the exam only fee and repeat attend was disincentivising students from repeat attending, increasing failure rates 2) Built in to the increase, ‘exam only’ repeat students could now have full access to college services such as Library, IT and Moodle facilities which they did not in the past After vehement opposition from the Students’ Union, it was today agreed at Governing Body that the ‘exam only’ repeat fee for 5 credits would be reduced by twothirds to 100 euro, for 10 credits to 200 euro, and capped at 300 euro for 15 credits and above, overturning the previous decision. The full access to facilities will still be provided. Despite a still significant financial increase from last year’s fees schedule, this represents a much more equitable solution than what we were originally looking at, and I would see it as somewhat of a ‘win’ for the Students’ Union on that basis.
