SU VICE-PRESIDENT

Hi all, My name is Sam O’Neill and I am the Vice President & Welfare Officer of YOUR Students’ Union for the coming year. To all returning students I’d like to welcome you all back for another great year here in GMIT. To all the incoming 1st years, I’d like to firstly say congratulations on being accepted to your course. You have made a great choice coming to not just Galway but also GMIT. I would like to extend to all of you a very warm welcome to the college. I have spent 3 years in GMIT. These years have been some of the best in my life and I hope this will be the case for you too. I will hopefully get the chance to meet all of you over your time here. Feel free to call to the office for a chat and introduce yourself if you like! I am here to serve you all to the best of my ability so if there is anything at all I can help you with, don’t hesitate to give me a shout. I will be running campaigns throughout the year to raise awareness and provide information on many areas of your welfare such as mental health, alcohol & drug abuse, road safety and sexual health. I would encourage everyone to get involved with the Students Union in any way you can. It is a great way to meet new people and develop your skills. One way in which you could do this is to put yourself forward for election as Class Rep. This is where I started and it helped me settle into college life easily. If this doesn’t interest you then watch out for Clubs & Societies that you may be interested in. If we don’t have what you are looking for, then you can by all means set it up. Taking part in these activities are again great ways to meet new people who share the same interests as you. There will of course be plenty of entertainment provided by us down in the SU. We hope to cater for all students in this area just like we would in all other areas of college life. Lastly I would just like to say best of luck in the coming year, I look forward to seeing you all!
