Recipe

Ingredients:

4 x 150- 180g / 5 – 6 oz fish fillets , about 1.5cm / 1/2

thick, skinless and boneless

50g / 4 tbsp unsalted butter

1/4 cup cream, heavy / thickened

1 – 2 garlic cloves, (minced)

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice

Salt & pepper

1 1/2 tbsp eschallots (French onion), (finely chopped)

Fresh parsley and lemon slices, (to serve).

Instructions:

1-) Preheat oven to 200°C / 390°F (all oven types).

2-)Place fish in a baking dish – ensure the fish isn’t crammed in too snugly. See video or photos in post. Sprinkle both sides of fish with salt and pepper.

3-) Place butter, cream, garlic, mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper in a microwave proof jug or bowl. Microwave in 2 x 30 sec bursts, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

4-) Sprinkle fish with shallots, then pour over sauce. Bake for 10 – 12 minutes, or until fish is just cooked.

5-) Remove from oven and transfer fish to serving plates. Spoon over sauce, and garnish with parsley and lemon wedges if using.

SMALLMOUTH KING BASS TOURNAMENT

Seventy-four anglers competed last year’s Smallmouth King Bass Tournament, catching 306 tournament-qualifying fish during the two-day event.

Because the tournament is a catch-photograph-release event, points are determined by the total length of smallmouth bass (over 12 inches) caught during the tournament. Chase Effler took first place this year, winning the event for the second year in a row. This year his catch measured 284.5 inches in total length earning him a trophy and a check for $1,000. Matt Maples claimed second place with catches measuring 277.25 inches in total length. Ryan Buckler took third place with smallmouth catches measuring a total of 277 inches in length. Kyle Grosvenor caught the biggest fish on Saturday at 21 inches, while Matt Maples reeled in the biggest catch for Sunday landing a smallmouth that was 20.25 inches long.

The fourth through tenth place winners and the total length of their catch were as follows: fourth place – Derek Campbell (276.25”), fifth place – Raymond Fortenberry (252.5”), sixth place – Josh Roberts (213.50”), seventh place – Jason Shannon (201.25”), eighth place – Joshua Harris (182.75”), ninth place – Andrew Wilson (153.75”), and tenth place – Paul Mitchell McCown (147.25”).

Sevierville’s portions of the Little Pigeon River and its tributaries were the site of this two-day event, which allowed competitors from states including Tennessee, North Carolina, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia, Missouri, and Michigan, to fish from shore, by wading, or from a kayak.

“We had over 70 participants this year which is the largest the field yet,” says Sevierville Chamber of Commerce Director of Sales and Advertising Tony Funderburg. “We’re excited about the continued growth of the tournament and the opportunity to share how great the smallmouth bass fishing is in Sevierville.”

Tournament organizer Greg Ward cited this year’s Smallmouth King Bass Tournament as the best yet for numbers of anglers and total length of fish caught. He adds, “While judging fish, I was amazed at how healthy these post-spawn smallies, which are typically chunky, footballshaped fish, were. Our wet spring has kept a great volume of water in our rivers and provided abundant food sources for our fishery. Once again, this weekend’s fishing has proven what I’ve said for years: the Little Pigeon River and its tributaries in Sevierville, Tennessee are some of the best river smallmouth fishing in the entire country.”

“This tournament has grown every year,” says Sevierville Chamber of Commerce CEO Brenda McCroskey. “This year, anglers from eight different states experienced the worldclass smallmouth bass fishing available in Sevierville. We believe there’s no better way to promote our blueways than

by welcoming anglers to discover Sevierville through great events like Smallmouth King Bass Tournament.”

June 7-8, 2025. In these waters, smallmouth are king. Come join the fun and test your fishing skills in one of the South’s premier smallmouth bass tournaments! A limited number of anglers will compete to be crowned Sevierville’s Smallmouth King of the Smokies! Learn more at: www.visitsevierville.com/SmallmouthBassKing.aspx

CurtisBunch

July 21, 1956 — October 15, 2024

Curtis Eugene Bunch, born July 21, 1956, in Roane County, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 15, 2024.

Curtis was a true leader, a guiding mentor, and a loyal friend whose presence left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. As a devoted father, he balanced the demands of his hard work with a deep commitment to savoring life’s precious moments alongside his loved ones. His unwavering dedication to others went far beyond the ordinary—Curtis was a constant source of support, always willing to lend a hand, offer wisdom, and go the extra mile to uplift those around him. His generosity, kindness, and compassion touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of love and service that will never be forgotten.

Curtis was a true Christian and never lost faith in God, even in the most troubling times. He worked hard to overcome obstacles and find activities he could still enjoy in his life; his favorite pastime was spending time doing anything at all with his best friend and wife of many years, Shelia. For these two it wasn’t love at first sight, but when sparks flew it was like the 4th of July. That’s probably why July 4th was Curtis’ favorite holiday! To Shelia, Curtis was the love of her life.

They built a home full of love with family always coming first. They built several businesses that were built on customer fairness. Curtis believed “fair is fair”. You treat your employees, customers, and manufacturers fairly, but you also treat yourself fairly. He built Bunch Marine from a small showroom and repair shop to the largest Marine Dealership in Tennessee by being a man of his word and believing in Customer Service. As Curtis knew the end was nearing, he made it clear that he wanted all of his Customers, Employees, and Reps to know how much he loved and appreciated them all.

All people pass but not all people live. Curtis lived!
