Erik Estrada has captured the hearts of millions of fans world-wide as a result of his starring role as highway patrol officer Frank Poncherello in the highly successful television series, “CHiP’s”. Also appearing in numerous other television and motion picture roles, the role he most prefers and enjoys is that of a role model to millions of children throughout the world.

Erik Estrada’s career has spanned so far over four decades, yet although, he had worked as an actor for years before his first television series, it was for his dynamic portrayal of Officer Francis ‘Frank’ Poncherello affectionately known as “Ponch” in the hit, ‘CHiPs’, that he became a household name.

His first real acting break came when actor/ director Don Murray selected him to star as a streetwise character opposite Pat Boone in The Cross and the Switchblade, a film that is still shown every week at about 500 youth centers across the country because of it’s powerful anti-drug message. Following that film, he

was convinced that the role of Sergio, a rookie policeman in The New Centurions with George C. Scott was perfect for him, but the producers did not agree. Undaunted Erik finally landed the part.

Erik has been discovered by a whole new generation and culture, who know him as “Johnny” from the #1 international series for Televisa entitled,“Dos Mujeres, Un Camino”. The series premiered at #1 and remained at the top of the ratings in the U.S., Mexico, and throughout Latin America. Dos Mujeres can also still be seen throughout the world. As a Latino actor, learning to speak fluent Spanish as an adult, and ‘discovering’ his cultural heritage has been the biggest gift that Erik received by traveling to Mexico and filming the acclaimed telenovela that spanned over 18 months and became the longest running most successful telenovela in the history of Televisa.

Estrada has emerged as a pop culture icon. Erik received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which he proudly dedicated to all the women and men in law enforcement.

The WB cast Erik as the father of the house for the second season of their hit series, Surreal Life. Erik has had an opportunity to share his great sense of humor with his fans shooting many cameos’ on TV and in film. Berkeley University Popular Culture Society honored him for his lifetime achievements in television and for his contribution to our pop culture.

Erik has had the opportunity to star in many films internationally and guest star in so many one hour dramas that they are too numerous to list over his forty years. Recently he has enjoyed sitcom work on many series including Disney’s hit Liv and Maddie, Big Time Rush and Drake & Josh. He has been a regular character on two animated series, Sealab 2021 for the Cartoon Network and The Misadventures of Maya and Miguel for PBS.

He has numerous national advertising campaigns and endorsements in both traditional Anglo markets as well as the Latino media marketplace.

While beginning his work in Virginia, Erik was introduced to the Safe Surfin’ Foundation whose mission is to educate all school age children on the dangers of the internet and the predators sometimes affiliated with it. His concern for the safety of these children as well as his own daughter, made him immediately commit to this crusade and in the future he hopes to have internet safety & education implemented in all schools for children K – 12.

He has joined SSF where not only is he a national spokesperson but is currently an Federal Investigative Officer for the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC), and just recently helped establish an I.C.A.C. task force unit for the St. Anthony Idaho P.D. Erik has been recognized by the Department of Justice and the U.S. Marshall Service for his dedication and service to protecting children from sexual predators on the internet.

Through his continual dedication, Erik has been instrumental in educating people across the country on the importance of car seats for all children, the dangers of drugs and most recently the very real dilemma facing our children, internet predators.

Erik continues to be a great supporter of police officers organizations throughout the world and because of this continual interest and commitment he is now also fulfilling one of his childhood dreams and has actually joined the ranks of law enforcement over ten years ago by becoming a sworn reserve police officer for the Muncie P.D. in the state of Indiana for two and a half years and then moved over to Virginia with the Bedford County Sheriff Dept. and became an I.C.A.C. investigator for eight years.

Erik has joined forces with the Safe Surfin’ Foundation & Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces around the country to protect our nation’s children from the

Erik lends his support to other such commendable charitable causes as CHiPs for Kids, Cops for Tots, the Thalians, March of Dimes, United Way, Susan G. Komen, Aids L.A., Walk to Erase MS and Standup for Skate Parks to name a few.

Off-screen, Erik prides himself as a home handyman who is constantly enhancing things around the Hollywood Hills house that he and his wife, Nanette resides in with their daughter, Francesca. He is also the father of two grown sons, Anthony and Brandon. While he works hard at everything he does, Erik is known by his friends and colleagues as a committed husband, father and family man and a true professional in his craft.

sexual predators who prowl the Internet looking for their next victim. Former “CHiPs” heartthrob, telenovela actor, “Armed & Famous” and “The Surreal Life” reality TV star Erik Estrada is no stranger to law enforcement. And at 70 years old, he is still patrolling the highways.

IS THAT O LD CAR T O NOISY?

SharkSkin Hood Insulation is a far superior material to what is currently being used. Specialty Automotive Materials has developed a solution with a new design. The Chevelle’s & Nova’s use the lip of the structural bracing to hold the hood insulation in place. Our design works on the same principle, since the Camaro’s hood is designed the same way. The black scrim face works great in any engine compartment. Hides the studs & nuts from the hood louvers on SS hoods. SharkSkin is 2.5 times denser by weight than the ‘ repop‘ type insulation. This is GREAT heat insulation and will help to absorb engine compartment noise. It will not slag or fray. Our hood insulation is shipped flat, not folded or crushed. CNC cut to insure a quality fit ever time.

Visit www.Specialty-Auto_Materials.net for more information and options or call 704-651-0270

New cars are quiet, aren’t they? The reason is due to extraordinary efforts on the part of their designers to limit resonance of body structure and sound transfer through openings into the engine compartment. A lot of time is spent on sealing out wind noise and other sources of sound that make the inside of a car something akin to the inside of an oil drum.

Our old cars didn’t have the benefit of modern engineering, of course, so they tend to be very noisy inside at highway speeds. If you are in the midst of restoring or otherwise disassembling the car to the point that undersides of panels are accessible, take some time to noise-proof your pride and joy.

Various specialty items are on the market that can help reduce noise in a car, but we prefer to use one of three common products available at home centers and auto parts stores: 1) spray undercoating; 2) Great-Stuff insulating foam; 3) Reflective insulating wrap.

Undercoating helps minimize vibration through sheet metal, so spray the stuff on liberally after painting, inside and outside panel surfaces. It is particularly useful in deadening sound coming through metal air ducts and fender voids.

Great-Stuff (spray, expanding foam) is just that — great stuff! It is extremely effective in filling cavities in car bodies (that’s what today’s manufacturers do) and holes in firewalls. The only thing to be careful when using it is to allow for expansion. Otherwise, your fender may swell out.

Reflective insulating wrap is usually available in twofoot and four-foot wide rolls. It is particularly useful as a liner in doors, hard tops and over floors. It adheres easily with spray adhesive and is so thin that carpet and other trim don’t need to be specially modified. The wrap also has an added advantage that it reflects heat, thus making the inside of some cars less uncomfortable.

1994 TOYOTA SUPRA TUBRO FETCHED AN AMAZING $173,600 AT AMELIA AUCTION!

March 11, 2019

It appears the introduction of the fifth-generation Toyota Supra has inflated values of classic examples. We say that because this 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo sold for an outrageous $173,600 at auction this past weekend at RM Sotheby’s.

Let’s break down that figure. A 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo with the targa top cost around $43,000 new. Adjusting for inflation, a new example would cost roughly $74,000 today. Not only has the car held its value, but it’s increased 42 percent over the adjusted figure. Frankly, that’s insane for a car just barely old enough to be considered “classic” by the legal definition.

This particular car ticks all the right boxes to be considered a prime example of a fourth-generation Supra, which is certainly most sought-after generation. It has the twin-turbo inline-6 under the hood, a manual transmission, and the optional targa top. According to the consignment information, the car crossed the auction block at RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island auction with

just 11,200 miles on the odometer. Most importantly, it remains all original and had just one owner in Illinois. The fourth-generation Supra was developed at a time when Japanese automakers churned out world beaters as the country’s economy boomed. However, the party came to a crashing halt when Japan’s economy sank into recession throughout the 1990s. Cars like the Supra were eventually yanked from production to cut costs and the final Supra reached U.S. shores in 1999. Production ceased entirely in 2002. Films such as “The Fast and the Furious” turned the car into a poster car for a new generation of enthusiasts, and video games like “Need For Speed” only reinforced the car’s cachet.

As those onlookers come of age, they’re eager to drive the car they hung up on their bedroom walls. Apparently, they’re willing to pay a pretty penny for prime examples, too.

TIPS| TRICKS

Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is home to a few spectacular events which keep visitors coming to the area every year to indulge in all different types of car shows each Fall and Spring! These semi- annual shows are known for showcasing rods, classics, and customs of all makes and models! These weekend long shows are great for all enthusiasts to meet and greet while greeting the opportunities for amazing awards and cash prizes!

Getting Around Town

A common question most travelers to the area have is, how to avoid traffic on the parkway during these weekend events? Although golf carts are the best way to maneuver around the high traffic volume areas, there are a few requirements in places to operate these vehicles.

All golf carts being driven on sidewalks, parking lots, and on the parkways are required to have safety equipment such as:

Head, tail, stop, and front and rear turn signal lamps

Reflectors- red on each side near the rear and also one red on the back of the cart.

•Parking brake

•Driver’s side exterior mirror, and either an interior mirror or exterior mirror on passenger side

•Non- plexiglass windshield

•Seat belts

•VIN number

Rentals are always available in Pigeon Forge for your convenience. All rentals are certified to be used on the parkway, sidewalks, parking lots, etc. If you’re looking for golf carts or scooter rentals be sure to check out these options!

Cart Rentals

Convenience and style make getting around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with ease during the busiest weekends in town. They offer low speed vehicles with 4 seat and 6 seat options from the best manufacturer in the business E-Z-Go.

Scooter Sales and Rentals

Reserve scooters, wheelchairs, and strollers for your smoky mountain travels. Be sure to note special event pricing for the upcoming car show.

Avoid The Parkway!

The main parkway that runs straight through Pigeon Forge is always pretty busy and car show weekends amplify this times 100! A few tips would be to take an alternate route/ road to get to either Dollywood’s Splash Country or The LeConte Center for these events. Rather than taking the parkway, try hopping on Teaster Lane and Veterans Boulevard. Both of these roads connect and run parallel to the parkway to save you from the many traffic lights and other drivers!

If you’re staying in a hotel close to the event location, try walking the parkway! The walk is flat and allows you to either walk along the parkway or take a detour to the greenway for more scenic views! Enjoy walking by all shops, attractions, and restaurants without getting stuck in all the heavy traffic!

Get accommodations off the strip.

When you’re in Pigeon Forge is to stay in one of our cabins with mountain views. At the end of the day of looking at a bevy of beautiful cars, kick back, relax, and enjoy the gorgeous view of the Smoky Mountains, away from the hustle and bustle. Sip a cup of coffee on your cabin’s rocking chair porch, or take advantage of your private outdoor hot tub—these are just a couple ways you can enjoy your stay this year during the Rod Run in Pigeon Forge!
