To our valued partners The GMP+ Feed Certification scheme cannot exist without our joint commitment to Feed Safety Worldwide. That is why, with this newsletter, we would like to inform you about the latest developments surrounding Feed Safety Worldwide. 2020 is shaping up to be a special year for GMP+ International and the GMP+ Feed Certification scheme. Among other things, we are planning to launch our completely redesigned GMP+ FSA module later this year. And we have additional facts and developments to share with you. In this newsletter we’d like to give you a short update on where we stand and where we’re headed. What are the most important steps we have taken? How are we planning to guide our community through this new decade? At the moment, we are all affected by the coronavirus, not only personally but also in doing business. Animal feed is part of the food supply and as long as there is a demand for food, there will be continuity in feed supply, although with challenges. At GMP+ International we are always looking for ways in which we can support the companies in producing safe animal feed, especially now under these circumstances.

‘ We are looking forward to working with you in 2020, and beyond.’ Johan den Hartog Managing Director, GMP+ International

We have listened to our community. What we heard was that our scheme should be workable and pragmatic, without surrendering feed safety. That is why we, together with our stakeholders, have redesigned and rewritten the GMP+ Feed Certification scheme. Our standards will be simplified, while maintaining the same high level of feed safety assurance. The restructured GMP+ FSA module will contain one general standard for all companies, and, compared to the current scheme, will focus on the mandated outcome, much less on the process. The new scheme is scheduled to be released later this year. Read everything about #ProjectGMP+2020 on our website.

Chain partners Driven by the growth of market demand for GMP+ certification and better coordination within the feed and food chain, the number of partners with whom we collaborate is growing. They are the first external support group for GMP+ International. The main goal of extending the number of partners is to realize one of our core values, which is acting together with stakeholder groups. These collaborations range from participation of external experts in our expert committees to promoting feed safety awareness. As of February 2020, GMP+ International has 41 feed and food partners, 9 food scheme partners, and 8 other feed scheme partners. In 2019, we acquired five new partnership & collaboration agreements.

Save the date:

Global Feed Safety Summit In 2022, GMP+ International will host the inaugural Global Feed Safety Summit. We decided to organize this summit after the successful international conference in Amsterdam, November 2017. This time, experts from all over the world will gather in Berlin to share the latest insights and discuss the most prominent challenges the feed industry is facing. It will be an event you don’t want to miss, so save the date. Together we aim to set the feed safety agenda for the next 10 years. More details will be released soon, so stay tuned.

Minimum requirements for purchasing Another important improvement of the GMP+ feed safety assurance certification is the harmonisation of minimum requirements for purchasing together with other feed safety schemes. It is a response to many signals we received from companies interested in GMP+ FSA certification located in regions with a limited number of certified feed material suppliers. The new requirements will enble to implement step by step certification in the whole supply chain. The reason behind harmonisation of the purchase requirements is to give more freedom to companies in sourcing their feed ingredients and materials while keeping in mind the importance of “gatekeeping. The companies will be more mindful in ensuring the products they buy are safe. The harmonization also contributes to creating a level playing field and an assured (certified) chain. Registered Consultants A second external support group for GMP+ International are the so-called Registered Consultants. Registered Consultants are professionals accepted by GMP+ International, who advise companies about the implementation of the requirements of the GMP+ Feed Certification scheme. Last year, we renewed the regulation for registration and intensified the recruitment of consultants. Now, we have 14 registered consultants in the Argentina, Brazil, France, Hungary, India, Italy, Morocco, Netherlands and Ukraine. Our goal is to ensure the level of knowledge and the skills of our Registered Consultants. Therefore, we organized the first consultants’ harmonization meeting in September of 2019. The 3-day training became a platform to connect consultants from all over the world sharing experiences, knowledge and exchange of insights about GMP+ schemes including practical cases. For GMP+ International, we are confident that our Registered Consultants are doing good consultancy services in their respective territories. We received very good feedback from participants. Therefore, we intend to organize this kind of meetings on an annual base.

Support Program for Certification Bodies In striving for Feed Safety Worldwide, we believe in the power of collaboration. This is why we have started a support program for accepted Certification Bodies (CB’s). Among other things, this program aims to strengthen the relationship between GMP+ International and CB’s, intensify the promotion of feed safety culture amongst companies in different regions, and realize uniformity in communication about the GMP+ Feed Certification scheme worldwide. The first result was the publication of the local offices of accepted Certification Bodies on our website. This will enable interested companies to contact a CB local office in their own country and their own language. In March of 2020, we should have our first regional harmonisation meeting with auditors in Kuala Lumpur, for the Asia region. Based on the results of this, we would look to extend these meetings in other regions as well. Due to the Corona virus epidemy we postponed it to second half of 2020.

‘We believe in the power of collaboration.’ 11

Examination CB auditors Starting this March, aspiring auditors for the GMP+ feed certification scheme will be able to complete their examinations online (with online proctoring). Although auditors will still have the opportunity to be examined at a physical location (if so desired), we believe an online course will save participants a lot of time and hassle. In addition, exams taken online can be reviewed more quickly. In collaboration with the Dutch knowledge institute Explain, our exams will be evaluated and revised, and updated more frequently in accordance with the needs of the rapidly changing industry.

Spring 2020

With over 18,000 certified companies worldwide, GMP+ International is a renowned source of knowledge and data when it comes to feed safety. Since the level of knowledge varies widely throughout the sector, we have decided to step up our game even more when it comes to knowledge sharing. Through our GMP+ Academy (which will be relaunched partly throughout this year, and fully in Spring 2021), we will provide our community with relevant but pragmatic source of information about a wide range of subjects concerning feed safety. Currently, we are researching the possibility of having some form of ‘GMP+ registered’ knowledge institutions to provide training courses about feed safety management. We will also launch a first e-learning module about HACCP this Spring. We will keep you posted on all of these promising new developments.
